Rachael walked into the Science lab and saw what they were talking about <snip for space>
"The thing they wanted me to look at was nothing really. I am on my way back to your position." [/COLOR]
Back together, they all started down the next flight of stairs.
<< to Briefing Room - level 3 >>
His hands at his sides, his mouth a grim slash Devin made his way into to the commissary, he entered, grabbed a tray and moved through the line, picking out some soup. Making his way to an empty table, he immediatly began trying to figure out just what was wrong with the DHD.
Having found himself stirring his soup around, he looked at the DHD in his mind, trying to deduce just what was wrong with it. Taking a sip of the soup, Devin let his mind wander.
~If there's nothing wrong with the programming, the terminal or the DHD, then what could it be?~ He asked Jaa'nik.
~I can't tell you Devin, I'm not an expert in such matters. If I could though, I would, if that makes you feel any better.~ She replied.
~Well it doesn't really.~ Devin thought grimly.
Bringing some more of the soup up into his mouth he looked down at the oil and fat bubbles that comprised part of the soup. It was reflective, like oil in a puddle, and when he dipped his spoon back down in, it splashed, like a Puddle Jumper going through the 'Gate. Almost dropping his spoon back into the soup, Devin could not keep his mouth from falling open.
~Puddle Jumper! That's it!~ He though elatedly. ~It's not a problem with the DHD, it's a problem with the way I built it!~
~DEVIN!~ Jaa'nik's shout rattled his nervous system and froze him for a moment. ~Apologies, you were getting too erratic, I had to make sure you didn't do something stupid.~
~Yeah thanks,~ he replied, ~like I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted, it's not a problem with the DHD's programming. Or rather it is.~
~Yes, now I'm confused.~ Jaa'nik sent back, genuinly confused. ~You just contradicted yourself. So therefore that makes no sense.~
~You see, in a way it does make sense. You remember I used Jumper and standard DHD parts. I think what's wrong is that the Jumper crystals are still in the DHD and are trying to connect through Gaia's DHD. But with the DHD down and the 'Gate inoperative, we can't connect.~ Devin finished off in a hurry.
With that Devin quickly put his bowl, tray and spoon where they belonged and hurried off to his quarters, he'd just figured out how to get the DHD working.
Kylie followed Devin into the commissary and helped herself to a very full cup of coffee. She made her way over to a table and collapsed into one of the chairs. She sipped her coffee, silently wishing that it was a little stronger. Then something in the back of her mind clicked. She quickly grabbed a paper napkin and the ink pen that she almost always kept tucked behind her ear. She scribbled on the napkin for several seconds before showing it to Devin and asking, "Can you read this by any chance?"
Braun stopped in the doorway to the Mess. It was one of the best lit places in the base outside of the Infirmary. He took a deep breath, savoring the scent of real food being cooked. Getting a cup of coffee, he stood sipping it while he scanned the faces of people. "I wonder if I beat him here?"
Finally spotting his quarry, Braun gulped down the dregs of his coffee and headed across the room.
"Excuse me, Ma'am, Doctor." He twitched at hearing a symbiote speaking. He didn't trust the snakey little snots. "Dr. Almodeus, Dr. Aaronson needs to see you in the Infirmary. On the double."
((Sorry about the font, I guess I won't try that again...))
Kylie was only slightly disappointed that Devin hadn't been able to read the writing. It would have made the translation go quicker, but the fun of doing it herself would be lost. "Oh, well, it was just an idea. Part of me was kinda hoping that maybe you'd seen it before somewhere. But that's ok, it's lots more fun if I do it myself anyway."
Kylie looked up suprised as the SF approached their table. "Besides it looks like you gotta go anyway. I'll head back to see if I can help with the cleanup further. See you later."
No, I will not get all jealous that he actually has something interesting to do and I'm still having to clear rocks out of the way. It's probably something really important about wormhole physics. I just wish I could have something fun to do.
Kylie finished her coffee and decided to head on back to the cleanup.
Looking at the SF, Jaa'nik asked, "And might I know as to what Dr. Aaronson requires?" Grabbing the sandwich Devin had been eating, she took a bite. After finishing it, she continued, "What I mean to ask is what could Doctor Aaronson- a medical doctor- could need with my or Devin's help."
"I'm not a liberty to say," Braun answered stiffly, "I was told to find you and bring you to Dr. Aaronson immediately." He made a motion toward the door, "Please, sir." Now."
Jaa'nik stared, and lowered her eyes, "Very well." She said, her tone of voice low, "Let us go to him." She didn't like the Tau'ri military ordering her around, but, it was unavoidable, they were all like that.
((Woah, not that kind of jealous! Just jealous that he's getting to do something seemingly more important. Updated the post, hope it makes more sense now))

Making his way into the Mess, Devin grabbed a cuppa' coffee, a turkey sandwich and some pudding, chocolate pudding- not vanilla or jello, goodness not jello. Moving over to an empty seat, Devin began working on the sandwich while he tried to figure out just what exactly had woken him.
~Jaa, you know what I was dreaming about?~ He thought.
~Something about the 302 series. That is all.~
Already he could tell this was going to be a very long snack.
Kylie continued to follow Pierce as they made their way through the line. She felt like a shadow or a puppy dog following him around, but soon realized that it was her own natural tendency to allow others to take the lead. She helped herself to a turkey sandwich and an apple. She figured those would be easy enough to eat on the go. She also remembered to fill an extra-large styrafoam (sp?) cup with freash coffee, knowing she would need it once she and Pierce returned to work. Just as they were about to leave, Kylie spotted Devin at one of the tables. "Hang on a second, Pierce, I think that's Devin over there. You can go ahead if you if you need to, but I want to say hi real quick. I'll catch up to you in about ten minutes. If that's ok?" Kylie said as she turned to Pierce as a way of excusing herself.
Kylie made her way over to where Devin was sitting. She took note of the perplexed look he had on his face, the look that she now recognized as him having an internal conversation with his symbiote. She really hoped that she wouldn't be interrupting. "Hi Devin, how was the rest of your morning? Are you going to come back to work on level 9, or are you in the middle of something else now? I'm sure Pierce could use the extra hands and I've enjoyed getting to know you while we work." Kylie hoped that had been the right thing to say and wouldn't offend him in anyway by interrupting his obviously serious thoughts.

Jumping, as if startled Devin's head jerked over in Kylie's direction. He yelled, "Ah!" and almost threw his sandwich up into the air. Looking as if he'd just seen a ghost, his head shakily moved through the air, looking for the source of his suprisal. Calming down once he'd seen it was her, he opened his mouth to talk. "Jeeze, scared the hell outta me." Then pausing for a moment, he continued "Sorry, so bloody wrapped up in talking to Jaa'nik I didn't notice you. As for my morning... Hasn't been bad, though I am trying to figure something out."
Looking into the air, Devin searched for how he'd best phrase this. "You see, I had some sort of dream during what little time I had to sleep. Now, in that dream, I figured something out, something important, something with real-life implications. I don't know if this is something I need to figure out now, but..."
