Equality is not a concept. It's not something we should be striving for. It's a necessity. Equality is like gravity. We need it to stand on this earth as men and women. And the misogyny that is in every culture is not a true part of the human condition. It is life out of balance, and that imbalance is sucking something out of the soul of every man and woman who is confronted with it.
- Joss Whedon - Equality Now
The Signal, are you allowing campaigning yet, or do I have to wait till the first round?
(Because I really want Jerry and Frank in there!!!)
In case The Signal allows campaigning I'm going to go ahead and do it now:
Spoiler:
The death of Frank Poole in 2001 is one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. It gave me nightmares! (OK, so I was just a kid when I saw it, but it still disturbs me to this day.) The fact that there is no blood or gore, no big explosions, and no sound just intensifies it. HAL commits a cold, heartless, cruel murder against someone with whom he plays chess, and converses regularly. He was just complimenting Frank on his sketches a couple of days before. The terror we observe without being able to hear the victim or see his face is remarkable. To me this is the epitome of the phrase: "In space, no one can hear you scream."
Jerry's death in "Enemy Mine" is completely different. While I've never quite decided whether or not I like that movie as a whole....it seems to go on way too long and wander all over the place....I loved the relationship between Jerry and Davidge. (Funny how if you didn't know better, you'd think Jerry was the human and Davidge was the alien just from the names.) After all they go through to become friends, Jerry dies rather quietly in childbirth, leaving Davidge all alone exept for this new life that he has no idea how to take care of. While Jerry seems to accept his own death, Davidge is faced with incredible loneliness, incredible fear for the future of the baby, the frustration of losing the being with whom he worked so hard to communicate and live, and the grief of losing his best friend. I thought it was a beautiful and touching scene.

3. The Fifth Doctor- Doctor Who - The Caves of Androzani NEW --Okay, so it took the whole story, but it was a good one.
Can somebody tell me about George's "My Hero" death? I somehow missed that one.

The story of my life. I finally find a city like this, intact, deserted for ten thousand years, probably contains hundreds of patents that I can exploit--and I'm going to die. I can appreciate dramatic irony as much as the next person, but this is pushing it a bit. --Max Eilerson, Crusade "War Zone"
