Those little "critters" in The Prodigy that attacked and killed one scientist and nearly killed O'Neill when he tried to dial the gate looks very much like the same critter in The Defiant One. The things attracted to Shepherd's energy bar, and that the Wraith "ate" or whatever he did, coincidence?

NOPE, just a good way to save money, just got a chance to re use a visual effect.

It's a glowing speck. It's rather easy and cheap to animate and no complicated details to conceive in its development.
