Sci-Fi Channel Offers 'Battlestar Galactica' Premiere Online

    Author: Michael Hinman

Missed the first episode of "Battlestar Galactica's" first season? Sci-Fi Channel is giving you an opportunity to watch it at your convenience ... absolutely free.

All you need is an Internet connection. And if you're reading this, you've already got that base covered.

Sci-Fi Channel is offering the episode "33" -- which started the first season of "Battlestar Galactica" -- uncut and commercial free in streaming video from the channel's Web site.

Since launching the series in January, Sci-Fi has taken some interesting steps in providing resources for fans of the show. Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore and former "Battlestar Galactica" star Richard Hatch both are writing blogs about the series. Also, scenes that were deleted from each episode also are made available on the Web site, something that usually is saved for DVD releases.

"33" aired in mid-January, and originally was aired back-to-back with the episode "Water." It's the first episode following the four-hour "Battlestar Galactica" miniseries, which aired in December 2003 to record ratings.

To watch the episode, a site visitor needs to have RealPlayer installed on their computer. It is unclear how long the episode will be made available from the Sci-Fi Channel Web site, or if future episodes also will be included on the site.

"Battlestar Galactica" airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET on Sci-Fi Channel.

NOTE: I'm on dial up, and this episode began playing almost immediately. I'm experiencing a small problem with buffer lag, but this is the fastest and best quality video I've ever experienced as a dial up user on the net.

I wonder if they just waited for it to show in Australia first.

But uncut, how cool. Now if only I had a better internet connection.

Will it work with dialup or just broadband? Can you download it too?

well, I watched it. But the video seemed to be choppy while the sound was good. Did they just capture a fraction of the video for any connection or was it just for dialup connections they did that? Good show.

postscript: quicktime rules but why can't macs use realplayer?

Once in a while SciFi puts out some deleted scenes. Often SG1 doesn't have any.
