Punisher Spinoff Starring Jon Bernthal in Development at Netflix
By Michael Ausiello / January 16 2016, 9:44 AM PST

Netflix is this close to pulling the trigger on The Punisher, a new Marvel spinoff series centered on Jon Bernthal’s gun-toting Daredevil vigilante (aka Frank Castle), TVLine has learned exclusively.

Viewers will get their first look at Bernthal’s Punisher when Daredevil's second season drops on Friday, March 18, but the early buzz on the Walking Dead alum’s performance is overwhelmingly positive.

"Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people to second-guess themselves," previewed exec producer Doug Petrie in a recent interview with EW.com. "Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t."

For those keeping track at home, this would mark Netflix’s sixth Marvel series, following Daredevil, Jessica Jones, the upcoming Luke Cage, and the in-the-works Iron Fist and The Defenders.

Reps for Netflix and Marvel declined comment.

I'm going to have to see what I think of him in Daredevil, I haven't read any of the comic books.

The only surprising part is why it took so long...But it was probably to work out the logistics of it.

I would wager they were waiting to see if the Punished character was well received on Daredevil

Can...not...wait for this series!! Jon Bernthal (shout out to Shane-TWD) did a good job portraying Frank Castle. The Punisher greatly enhanced season 2 of Daredevil!

Looks like this show may be coming a bit sooner than we expected, as production recently got underway in NYC

I'm five episodes in so far, and liking what I see! It could have been just stupid gratuitous OTT violence, but it's acted well, its characters are richly realized and well-written, and it's telling its story well. I really hope it keeps this up and doesn't pull a Luke Cage.

I just finished this the other night and I loved it. I might even like it more than Daredevil, which was my definite favorite out of the Netflix Marvel shows until now. And for some reason Karen is so much tolerable ( actually, more than tolerable, she's actually pretty great) when she's around Frank and involved in a storyline with Frank.

Finished it as well. It was worth the slow burn. My only complaint is not enough violence and we don't really get to see him go "Punisher" much in this show.

Hopefully that will be rectified with the obvious second season.

I take a slightly different tack here... I like how they did it in this season, because I thought the downtime in between really emphasized the hyperviolence when it did happen. Like having two songs at low volume, then cranking it up to 11 for the heavy third song, etc.

Hopefully that will be rectified with the obvious second season.
Really really really hoping this happens. I just don't know what's doing on with the future of the Netflix shows now that Disney is severing distribution arrangements so they can launch their own streaming service.

Even my non comic book, non whumper self loved the show. Great job with the characters/character development off setting the intense action

I think I heard that because the Netflix Marvel shows are owned by them, they're not affected by Disney's streaming plans, it's only things like the films and S.H.I.E.L.D / Gifted / other non Netflix owned shows that are.

Wow...they did kind of a s**t job of Billy's scars. If we're supposed to buy that that's the only scars he got after that face smashing he got at the end of Season 1....shame on the makeup department, god damn.

Otherwise, looks pretty amazing. Can't wait!

Episode 201
Loved how low-key this was for the most part. Solid subversion of expectations; it was really nice to see Frank trying to move on but still deeply scarred and haunted.

Shame that Beth the bartender (apparently) is only a single episode appearance (unless she turns up later on, I have no idea). I really liked her a lot. And poor Ringo the bouncer

That was one hell of an action/fight sequence in the bar though, wasn't it?

I just saw the first two episodes of season 2. I'm liking it so far.

I liked that Frank and the bar tender too. I was glad that she lived. She appears in the next episode, which maybe her last appearance. But I will say that guy (I've seen him in other shows) had the most creepy scene with her in the hospital.

Not surprised.

I have seen that Hulu is willing to produce new content with the shows though. I just might get Hulu if they do
