after the pilot, it was explained why the people don't get slightly frozen(and spew) on the first trip on the gate? i don't remember.

The frosting happened because the gates weren't calibrated. They later updated their systems with newly calculated adresses and so the frosting stopped.

Yeah it seems a lot of people missed this in the episodes, I know it was originally just a cool effect for the movie and they just wrote it out in the show, but it would be a pretty ineffective travel device if that happened every time.
