    Agents of SHIELD spin-off - News/Discussion/Speculation

So, looks like Marvel and ABC are planning a third TV series for the network -- a spin-off of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

No details as yet, the story is only a few hours old

Marvel developing Agents of SHIELD spinoff for ABC -- exclusive

Huge news for Agents of SHIELD fans. Not only is a third season of the action-adventure series pretty much guaranteed, but Marvel is quietly developing a spinoff for ABC.

We’re told a spinoff is being developed by SHIELD executive producer Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and SHIELD writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost, Hawaii Five-0).

We don’t know is which characters from the current series will be moving over to the proposed spinoff – so let the speculation being on that. There won’t be an implanted pilot episode this season directly setting up the spinoff, either (like how CW launched The Flash out of Arrow). However, story elements that are still to come on SHIELD this year will be used to lay the groundwork for the potential new series. So by the end of the season – assuming the details for this project haven’t already leaked, which is rather unlikely – the spinoff concept should be clear.

Under the best-case scenario, the spinoff would hit ABC as soon as this fall. But there are other timing possibilities too, including midseason. Of course, the spinoff also might not even happen. Not only is SHIELD not yet officially renewed, but ABC has yet to select which of its crop of pilots will receive series orders – decisions that could impact the SHIELD spinoff plan.

SHIELD currently averages 7.4 million viewers and a 2.8 rating among adults 18-49, when including seven days of DVR playback. If greenlit, the spinoff would expand Marvel’s TV empire yet again. On ABC there’s SHIELD and Agent Carter (that latter, we’re told, has about a roughly 60 percent chance of returning for a second season). Plus the studio has its multi-title Netflix slate in the pipeline which launches tomorrow with Daredevil. ABC does not comment on current development, and Marvel had no comment.

So which character(s) do you think Marvel is eyeing for the SHIELD spinoff?

I'd have to think it would be Skye.

      Or maybe Mike Peterson/Deathlok?

Perhaps you've missed Thor, Avengers, Thor 2, Guardians, and are unaware of the upcoming Guardians 2, Thor 3, Avengers 3 & 4, and Inhumans films?

Sword would be a cool idea for a spin off tho, but isn't Victoria hand dead in the mcu? thanks to Grant Ward? isn't she like the captain of sword or something?

Also I hope they don't kill Agent Carter show in favour of this, that show was great once it got going

They will probably kill Agent Carter because of the low ratings

Actually, Abagail Brand (created by Joss Whedon) is in charge of SWORD, but I don't think that's where they're going with this.

                    I'm guessing 1 of 2 options:

                    1) Keep the 2 SHIELDs split and have 1 show following Coulson SHIELD with him, May, Fitz, and Skye with the other following Adama SHIELD with Olmos, Mockingbird, Mack and Simmons (could be on either show, but I'm leaning this way now)

                    2) Skye, Deathlok, Mockingbird and maybe 1-2 new characters in a more superhero focused show while the rest of the team stays on the current show.

Why would mockingbird be with skye and deathlok> We have not seen her having any powers.. Or does she?

Neither do Hawkeye or Black Widow and they're in the Avengers. I think 1 is the more likely of the two options, but it's even more likely that something happens in the rest of the season or one of the movies that leads to the spinoff in ways we can't anticipate yet.

Adrianne Palicki, Nick Blood to Topline ABC's 'Agents of SHIELD' Spinoff

The duo play fan favorites Bobbi Morse (aka Mockingbird) and Lance Hunter.

ABC and Marvel's Agents of SHIELD spinoff is starting to take shape.

Fan favorites Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood have been tapped to topline the potential spinoff series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. ABC and Marvel declined comment.

Palicki portrays Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, and joined the series as a guest star earlier this season before quickly being promoted to regular. British actor Nick Blood portrays mercenary Lance Hunter. Hunter and Morse are a former husband and wife duo who have a touchy relationship on the Marvel drama.

Details are being kept under wraps but it is rumored to be set up by the events that transpire in the closing episodes of season two.

The potential spinoff hails from SHIELD EP Jeffrey Bell (Angel, The X-Files) and series writer Paul Zbyszewski (Lost).

The SHIELD spinoff is one of two new ABC/Marvel projects the network is eyeing for next season. The second is a mystery project described as a reinvention of an existing superhero character from EP John Ridley.

While SHIELD is expected to return to ABC for a third season, the fate of freshman bridge show Agent Carter starring Hayley Atwell, remains unclear.

Both SHIELD and Agent Carter were picked up straight to series ahead of ABC's upfront presentation, with a move on either the spinoff or Ridley project expected to follow suit.

The buzz with last night's announcement of SHIELD's renewal came with the news that this spin-off series, apparently, is dead in the water.

ABC likes Marvel’s agents — well, most of them — and the network will give each of the two ABC Marvel shows a new season. So: Agent Carter renewed? Check. Agents of SHIELD renewed? Check. The proposed spin-off from Agents of SHIELD greenlit? Well, no. That one has been slapped down like a weak Hydra agent. More details follow.

We don’t know much about the next seasons of Carter and SHIELD because, well, they were just ordered.

That said, we can surmise one thing about season three of SHIELD: it won’t lose actors Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, who played Bobbi Morse, aka Mockingbird, and Lance Hunter on SHIELD season two.

That pair was proposed as the leads of the spin-off show. Deadline says “ABC and Marvel have put the brakes on the proposed Agents of SHIELD spinoff,” and while we don’t have a precise explanation for the decision not to go forward with the show, there’s talk of wisdom prevailing over keeping a couple of the parent series’ more popular characters on that series.

Good. Though i would have at least liked to have heard more about what the spin off was to have been about before saying yay or nay to it.
