First one in I loved this ep I thought it was very funny the witty funny I like and just enough action waiting to get to know the characters more hope it does well in the ratings so we will get more I liked it enough to put it in my sig already LOL

I am very happy with Joss Whedon his show Dollhouse disappointed me I only watched 2 ep The Avengers movie I did like so that's why I checked this show out yay very happy to have something to watch on Tuesdays nights now

I really enjoyed it, liked how they set up the premise for the next episode aswell 0-8-4 which they mentioned at the end

my only gripe was the two science/techies on the team got abit annoying at times with there over enthusiasm its like they had too much caffine or something That Sky chick might get annoying aswell

What is the bet that Ming-Na is going to turn bad? maybe not this season (if we get another season) i bet she will eventually become bad, thats the type of character she usually plays

I liked it. It wasn't great, but it was good.

I too wasn't impressed with the tech people. Although, with the joke about their names, I won't forget them very quickly.

Am i the onlyone to who that reminded Team Knight Rider tv series as basically same inviroment as plane for a base and tech guy is super nerd ?

Btw i liked the transformers style car change to a back to the future style hovercar this the same special effects as the movies typicaly end. Fly away and turn around to come back at you.

There nothing that wowed me in the pilot or surprise me. An little that made me think or want to desperately watch the next episode.

Hopefully it will improve as the show goes on but I was expecting more from Whedon.

An I think they needed something cooler than that aircraft to make up for the helicarrier not being their base of operations.

Hopefully we will see the Michael Peterson become a superhero in the future.

I think if anyone going to turn out to be bad it will be Sky, everyone else would be too predictable. An she did put that device on her.

Re: Pilot (101)
Am i the only one to whom that reminded Team Knight Rider tv series as basically same environment as plane for a base and tech guy is super nerd ? Nope you aren't the only one, It the same set up and not very original. I am hoping they will add something in the future to change it up a bit. But it does very much look like knight rider with a scattering of superpowers and superheroes around it.

Solid start to the series. My expectations were so high that it was almost certain not to live up to them but it at least managed to not disappoint me :)

The techies really didn't work, the characters dialogue was to hurried and at times difficult to hear what they were saying.

Like this pilot, a great tie-in with the movie.
Does anyone think the Shield mobile command unit plane remind you of Splinter Cell: Blacklist Fourth Echelon Mobile command center(also a plane) ?? What are they using?? C-17 or other model??
How the hell Coulson back from the death????And so funny when Coulson put truth drug on Ward.
And Ward.. are you always awkward around ladies(Skye)??
Great use of gadget and tech.

P.S.: they using the plane which is make much more sense than using the helicarrier, they more like investigative unit then combat unit. they will be the first team to assert the situation.

You're not alone with thinking the two techies were over the top, bordering on annoying. A couple of stereotyped 'eccentric' Brits. Oh well, at least they are actually Brits, and Brits generally in US shows these days not Americans and Canadians trying to do British accents, oh I've done much cringing over the years, James Marsters as Spike was the exception! As a Brit now living in Canada it's a relief! :D

I guess I should watch the Avengers movie, would help! The pilot episode stood up pretty well on its own though, and despite what I thought was a slow start as well as wondering if I was watching 'Heroes' again it picked up in the second half. It had enough of a 'character' of its own for me to tune in next week and learn more about the characters and why they are chasing these 'super heroes'. It has a sense of humour I like and that helped me decide to continue watching this.

They sound nothing like your average Brit, even the Scottish guy doesn't sound Scottish, he sounds like a mix of Somerset & Glaswegian on speed which is very bad.

Coulson is obviously

either a clone, a LMD or a Deathlok, but I bet the twist is, he knows exactly what he is and has done from the beginning, rather than what the doctor believes.

The explanation was believable, especially since the hero card bit in Avengers was staged, until those two talked as he walked off, now it throws a completely different spin on it and you can play "spot who knows".

I liked the humour, especially the bit about the room needing a new bulb.

the action was okay... but that's a trend with Whedon... his season openers always seem to be more about character introduction than any actual action imo.... i kinda like the Tahiti conspiracy, as i've begun to call.... i knew Coulson's "survival" couldn't be as droll as internet rumours were making it out to be....

i thought Fitz and Simmons were cute, but yes, they do need to tone it down a bit as the season progresses... i felt like they were grand-standing a bit since no one really knew what they could do... and i got the distinct impression that they managed to impress Ward just a bit, so i suspect there will be even more grand-standing as the season progresses, but only around him.... Coulson's just gonna ask them to do one "impossible" thing after another, knowing they'll be able to pull it off, and May's not the time to be easily impressed, which is probably what makes her a legend in SHIELD hierarchy....

Sky is either gonna be infuriatingly annoying or absolutely awesome... i'm kinda looking forward to see which....

I watched the pilot yesterday and I felt it was just fine.

I mean the plot moved along at a brisk pace and the jokes were good but I was expecting something a little more serious, like how difficult it can be dealing with superheroes and weird stuff. But all the while it seemed that SHIELD could do anything and really just breezed through all problems. But I guess this was just the pilot, so hope's up.

The Tahiti Conspiracy has me intrigued and I am lapping up all the crackpot theories on the net :)

And the ending...:cameronanime08b:. Hope they get better as the season progresses.

Did he die in the film, yes or no.

Is he a clone.
Is he from another dimension?

Is he a clone.
Is he from another dimension?

Coulson did die, according to the film.

But then in the show he is shows alive and himself explains that he was 'dead for 8 seconds' and was revived later and Fury used this trick to unite the avengers.

But then when he says that he was in Tahiti, recuperating after this, we are given a hint that he does not know the truth and there is something fishy about his revival which he 'can never know about'. I guess the truth would be revealed over the season.

I liked it, there is a trend that the pilot of a show from Whedon is not that awesome as the whole show is gonna be, it's like "judge the book by its cover", so we have to see how things will progress from here, of course it is not THE best pilot ever and it had live up to some unbelievable expectation so no one could be pleased, obviously. It is great though to see that Joss Whedon still asks old actors from his show to be in his new projects, so it was good to see Ron Glass (Dr. Streiten) and J. August Richard (Michael), I hope there will be other actors from his previous shows guest starring on this show, maybe even Summer Glau, Alexis Denisof or Adam Baldwin? We will see...The score was clearly Bear McCreary, you could knew it even before reading that he was scoring the music :)

I'm hopeful. Could become a great series but too early to know. A question for you: how extensive is Whedon's involvement? I assume he's too busy with multiple projects to be the "showrunner."

I really liked the episode and thought it was a solid start. I think they did a great job at catering to the loyal fans of the Marvel movies, and loved all of the nerdy references with the 'cosplay girls outside Stark Tower' and the 'T-1000 over here.'

See pilot ep is being rerun on Saturday night...takeaway curry, check. Beer, check...

1. Money in my pocket says that Coulson was taken to another world, possibly with the help of Thor.

2. Dodgy Brit accents ahoy!

3. Extremis! Should have guessed! Then again, so should have the SHIELD guys!

4. OK, who's Centipede?

Hmmmm....not awesome so far but I have a new show to watch with curry and beer at least!

Wow! I am so surprised there is so much positive reaction. I thought it was very weak. I expected it to be much smarter. I enjoyed how they tied it into the movies, but that is about it. Very disappointed in the setup of the team, a bunch of beautiful young expert specialist with two adults in charge. I am going to keep watching . . . for now. It is going to have to get a lot better than this Disney marketing executive idea I saw in the pilot.

And I agree about Thor. I have been thinking that was what would happen since I saw Avengers in the theater.

It was ok I guess, few things did stand out for me.

Ming-Na, wonder if that was her actually kicking ass or a stunt double, having only ever seen her in SGU was wondering what sort of character she might play in this

Coulson, hes one of the robot clone things isnt he, cant remember the proper name for them, it'll no doubt be on a wiki somewhere.

The plane, erm, dont think that the 2 engines at the back would work, they would be in the jet stream of the inner set of forward engines.

Does it have legs though, I dont think so tbh, I think its an attempt to tap into the current money maker bag that is the super hero movie...
"Hey this is popular lets make as much as we can as quickly as we can an ruin everything to make a quick buck"

LMDs: Life Model Decoys

i think the two engines in the back are just for show... camouflage.... i mean, if they can have a helicarrier.....

the original concept for the show was to revolve around Black Widow and Hawkeye, but the actors weren't available to do a tv show.... idk about SJ, but JR has like five movies lined up for the next three years including Avenger 2, MI5 (rumoured), and another Bourne movie (also rumoured).... Clark Gregg, on the other hand, was available and a good chunk of the MCU fandom has always been in denial of Coulson actually dieing [( i being one of them )]

right now the show has potential... now whether that potential will flourish under the banner of Whedon and become frakkin awesome, or if Disney will spoil the fandom is yet to be seen.... the pilot was not the strongest opening in the world, but that's par for course for a Whedon production.... if you look back objectively to the pilots for all of Whedon's other shows, yea there were elements that rocked, but as an overall, his pilots are usually weak with the show picking up steam later in the season....

mr_kennedy
September 30th, 2013, 04:49 AM
I'm going to bet against it being a LMD and i reckon its going to be something from Asgard or something else entirely (time travel related maybe? idk, skrull?, Vision or Ultron prototype?) don't get me wrong i would also be ok with it being a LMD

Lilith

my money's on Extremis... or rather a mix of Extremis and the Super Soldier serum.... i mean Tony had to fix it to save Pepper, and i bet JARVIS's hack on SHIELD servers actually goes both ways, and Nicky is a sneaky, sneaky bas****.... plus, altho they don't have Erksine's original formulae, ppl have been trying to recreate the serum for decades... i wouldn't put it above Nick to have medical draw a vial of blood from Steve with some bull**** excuse when really, they're gonna try to retro-engineer it....

Whedon used to work exclusively with Fox, but they screwed him over one too many times [( cancelling buffy before he was ready to end it, which is why she died at the end of Glory arc, only for the show to be picked up by another network after a one year hiatus.... cancelling firefly half-way thru the first season.... cancelling Dollhouse, tho i was never a fan, it still ended prematurely )] plus, since Marvel is now owned by Disney, which also owns ABC network, ABC gets first dibs on anything Disney related.... which is good b/c ABC's known for holding onto a series too long

Thats a myth. ABC will cancel a show just as likely as FOX if the ratings are poor. I will a admit that SHIELD being an ABC productions allows for slighly lower ratings but that is always the case if the TV channel is also the producer

Lilith

I'm not sure it is extremis that has revived coleson.

let me clarify my theory.... the medics get in are able to revive coulson, but they're having troubling keeping him alive... fury's got an unfinished version of the super soldier serum derived from steve's own blood, and injects that into coulson, which makes him more durable, but there's still the problem of the whole in his chest, and altho the serum has accelerated his healing, that's still a lot of damage to recover from.... phil's in a coma with no hope of real recovery, even if he does manage to wake up.... six months go by and now we've got extremis.... fury sends out a few sniffers, but lets stark deal with it... stark solves the problem, in more ways than one... and now fury's got an idea... a low dose of extremis with stark's modification, and boom! coulson's fully recovered and able to go back in the field.... the problem fury's got now tho is he may have ignored phil's living will to save his life... phil's having some memory problems and fury grabs the opportunity to plant his cover story... and since SHIELD is so secretive, it works... for now, at least....

Trig

No offense intended, this is just the buffy fan in me, but where the hell did you get that idea?

Season 5 of Buffy ended in spring of 2001, Season 6 of Buffy started in fall of 2001. No 1 year delay. If that happened, you can bet the actor's would have caused scheduling problems.

Loved Dollhouse btw, though it did take awhile for Echo to truly have a personality.

Thoughs on the pilot:

The cast is just so white. I'm not asking for the them to have a checkbox of all the different races like in Star Trek. But I just want to know why these characters were chosen and whether anyone had an idea for a non-white regular cast member?
I really don't give a s**t about artifical love story arcs. Between Ward and Sky you know they are teasing something, but I just recall Scott and Chloe's relationship in SGU and I wonder, where did it come from? Answer: The writers wanted it. That's how I feel about Ward and Sky. I hope they throw in some wrinkles to that.

Otherwise loved Coulson's humor and I'm interested ini seeing where the series leads to.

I did not overlook her. But I acknowledge she is there. But as my girlfriend pointed out, maybe her chracter is there because Maurissa (co-showrunner and of Asian heritage) wanted a badass reflection of herself? I am not inclined to believe that, but that was my gf's thought.

I also agree the two british scienetists are annoying and a bit redundant. Half the time they are just talking techno-babble, I prefer babble that at least sounds credible, not babble that is blurted out as fast as possible to move the plot.
