Daniel's upward curve of hotness

Just watching SG-1 episode where Vala is introduced ("Prometheus Unbound") and noticing just how hot Daniel is in that episode compared to episodes only shortly before that (not to mention miles away from nerdy, bespectacled Daniel from Season 1). What's the deal? Was Michael Shanks just working out more (noticeably nicer pecs) or did the writers decide he needed to be sexier?

I do think that Michael was probably working out more during the seasons of 7 and 8 (probably with Chris Judge) but imho Daniel was no "weedy nerd" even in the earlier seasons....he may have looked it with the longer hair and glasses and the over-sized clothes but if you look at the shots of him rising out of the water in S1 Fire and Water, you can see from the size of his neck and the wet t-shirt clinging to him that he was no small man..

As for Daniel, well he's always looked hot to me...right from CotG through to Continuum and as for Michael and beyond, well in Saving Hope he's slimmed down a hell of a lot and seeing him zoom around the ice in Mr Hockey I guess he's kept up with the fitness work in the gym, but maybe not quite so much weight training nowadays, more aerobic instead..

I totally agree with you Deeds, Michael has always looked amazing, I have a few photos of his early acting days even before Stargate SG-1 and you can tell that he obvious is fit and active. I think playing hockey has helped contribute that look. Even after he finished SG1, he went on to appear on Smallville and he looked fit in that. He made the mention that he had to carry a harness and it was about 25-30 pounds plus had a costume plus had on a set of wings that was about 25 pounds as well so he is able to handle a lot!

I am proud of the fact that he can still look fit and great regardless of how old he gets, I only hope that whoever I marry can do likewise because no one likes a couch potato in a man and let's face it, us females don't like that look in them because they tend to get lazy and complacent.

So true. He has always looked hot. Though I thought he looked even more hotter. When he shed the long hair that made him look to much like James Spader and so made Daniel more his own charactor.

He looks great! At 42 he's hardly "old" for a male actor, just a few years younger than RDA was when he was cast as Col. O'Neill. You have to remember that Shanks is actually 6 years younger than Daniel Jackson (see SG-1: 1969). Actually, I think he looks better now than he did a few years ago for his appearances in SGU... Not that he looked bad then either, of course.

Go back a year+ to S7 and watch Evolution eps. He had great arms back then.

The dirty sweaty vest comment made me think of S4 Beneath the Surface. Good looking arms in that episode. Not quite to the level of Evolution but still nice form.

He looked good in the episode "Watergate" and even before then in "The Gameskeeper" even though it's not one of my favorite episodes you got to see a really emotional and raw Michael/Daniel plus in "Crystal Skull" which is one of my personal favorites you could see him turning into a really mature and strong person, you see how he deals with his friends not being able to see him and the only one who knows he's there is his estranged grandfather Nicholas.
