It's doubtful the SGC did anything. Too many people to force into signing non-disclosure agreements, plus trying to get them to is more likely to raise too many questions that the SGC can't control. And as far as those people know, Joe's stories were all fiction. He can't go back and tell anyone they're real. Nor can his wife, since Jack apparently told her that Joe wasn't nuts after all, and who knows what else she was told.

There are scientists who believe that wormholes just might be able to used for travel, and scientists who belive that it is impossible. In any case, if Stargate was a fictional show designed to distract us from the real thing, they would certainly fudge the science. I imagine Wormhole Extreme didn't use the actual science, the point was just that there was a gate and you travelled through it. If they used the real science, someone would try it out.
