Any spec on the big bad this time around? I love Crowley, but I'm afraid the whole "Hell" thing has been done before with Lucifer. I'm thinking, since they've both already been to Heaven AND Hell, a little tour of Purgatory might be in order. I really think they squandered the whole Leviathan story line, they could have done so much more with the Angels and Demons in bed together, so to speak, but may be making up for lost time with Cas and Meg.

On the flip side, I read an interview with Robert Singer who talked about 'getting back to basics' and next year they're probably going back to the Monster of the week theme, which wouldn't suck, either. Esp. with Jeremy Carver at the helm.

So, I guess, I don't care what the 'theme' is next year, I'm just thrilled the Winchesters are even around to carry on the family business another year.

Alright, just found out that Supernatural will be airing on Wednesday night now. WHAT??? Still in it's 9pm time slot, airing after the new show Arrow. WHAT???

Well, isn't this just ducky?

And then there's this...

Network boss Marl Pedowitz said of Supernatural's future that they were not looking at Season 8 "as the final year in any way, shape or form."
Source. (http://tvline.com/2012/05/17/supernatural-season-8-finale/)

Sounds good to me!!!

If they keep telling interesting stories, this show could go on for many more years to come. Realistically though, networks don't always make the smartest decisions. I enjoy each new season like it could be the last.

The premiere even...how awesome is that! I hope he doesn't get bit by the directing bug too hard...that man needs to stay IN FRONT of the camera, not behind it. Although, it leads to an interesting observation: the last two eps he directed were, for obvious reasons, low on screen time for Dean. So that leads one to speculate what they'll be focusing on in the premiere if not Dean in his particular predicament. Sam, trying to fix the situation on our side of the fence? Castiel? Perhaps Bobby and Annie and their experience since they did, technically, die as monsters and are most likely available to the boys as Calvalry now? It's all very interesting to ponder.

Arrow looks marginally interesting but that could be just because I got introduced to the "Oliver Queen" story in Smallville.. :)

"were not looking at"? Meaning they are now?? I'm glad that they have been renewed for an 8th season and I hope they keep it going as long as possible; I think I might cry if the show got cancelled, sadly enough.

The first vaguely substantive spoilers for the Season 8 mytharc, from Bob Singer in the Comic Con issue of TV Guide.

* Will season 8 hinge on Sam trying to save Dean from Purgartory? “No,” Singer answers. An amount of time passes before Dean finds his way back from Purgatory (not specified how long). They’re planning on doing various flashbacks through the season showing what happened and what Sam did in that time while Dean was away.

* Why use flashbacks? Because fans usually hate it when the brothers are separated, so that’s why they’re being reunited quickly.

* What about Castiel? They’re still framing that out, but Cas will be back a number of times.

* Will Kevin the Prophet be back? “Kevin is an integral part of the year.”

* What does Crowley want with Kevin? The King of Hell needs someone to read the word of God. “Every year we start with a theme — this is our “Raiders of The Lost Ark” year. This season-long story will be a quest. It’s about Kevin and the tablets and the Word of God.”

* They would like guest characters like Sheriff Mills, Charlie and Garth back, but nothing is concrete yet. “And there’s one new character that we’re talking about. It’s a monster that Dean meets in Purgatory.”

* Who will be the big bad this season? It’s another angels and demons year. “It’s not apocalyptic but about who can gain control and keep demons in Hell or angels in Heaven.”

* Former producer Jeremy Carver, who exec produced the U.S verison of Being Human, is returning to Supernatural as your new co-showrunner. Will fans notice anything different?

“No. Jeremy gave us a couple of years on the show, so I do think this season will be a little less earnest and a little more the kind of stuff we did in Seasons 2 and 3, before the weight of all the mythology got us.”

To me, that guy behind Dean looks either like the guy that played the bartender/vamp/Lenore's friend (also been around the scifi block, notably in BSG) or they guy that played the ring leader in the episode of SGA where the team was sentenced to that planet without a DHD and Weir had to negotiate. Do you know the guys I'm talking about? Seems like whoever that is will be a fairly important figure in the new season.

Seriously, don't read this unless you want a spoiler about who the other character is...
He's a vamp who helps Dean out of Purgatory played by Ty Olsson (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0648153/) I think I did read that he was one Lenore's vamps too.

I really hope they take full advantage of Dean being in purgatory. It would be a perfect opportunity to bring back character's that have been killed and didn't go to heaven or hell. The Trickster(Gabriel) for example, what better place for dead Angel's to end on up other than purgatory.

And than there's Bobby. Where do ghost that choose to stay behind end up? I haven't watched the episode in month's, but i believe the Reaper mentioned to Bobby that if he choose to stay, he wouldn't be back to help him move on. Purgatory would be my guess, and they're sitting on a great way to bring him back.

Think of all the monsters they could bring back. Things the boys regrettably had to kill (Jewel Staite's character), things that were particularly bothersome (Gordon). And since they are going to be showing it in flashbacks, they could make this last a while.

Ok, random question b/c it's starting to bug me. That stupid thing is really hard to keep track of- what happened to The Colt?!!?

Ruby's knife apparently has survived a few trips to Heaven, The Pit, and now Purgatory. But for the life of me, I can't remember where that gun ended up. Is is supposed to be making any appearances this season?

The last I recall seeing it was when Dean shot Lucifer. I think Dean dropped it there, but I don't recall if anyone picked it back up. It may be lying on the ground out near that big mass grave...in which case I would assume whatever cops investigated would have found it and maybe put it in evidence somewhere. Or maybe Crowley went and got it after everyone left but before investigators showed up? Maybe Death picked it up when Lucifer summoned him there? He might want to keep it as a paperweight or something. :P

It was in the one where they went back to the old west, too, but I think Dean dropped it before coming back to modern day so it was still in the past (which would have had to happen or else it would be one of those pesky time-travel paradox things).

boyd22
October 11th, 2012, 08:56 PM
Simple answer is, it made things to easy. A gun that could kill all but 5 things in all of creation, yeah it had to go.

But i wondered the same thing a few month's back, so i took to searching google. Found an interesting post on some forum i cant remember the name of. It showed a few clips from the episode "Abandon all hope", in it Dean was clearly still holding the colt when he was thrown against the tree. After Cas took Sam and Dean away, it showed a shot of the ground where they were, the colt wasn't laying on the ground. Point is the gun wasn't just left there, they had to of taken it with them.

There's also some debate as to whether or not the gun used by Bobby to shoot Lucifer in "Swan song" is the colt, though i haven't watched the episode in awhile so i couldn't say. I do believe its whereabouts does deserve an explanation though, seeing as it such a big part of the shows mythology.

From SuperWiki's page on The Colt (http://www.supernaturalwiki.com/index.php?title=The_Colt)...

5.10 Abandon All Hope

Dean attempts to kill Lucifer using the Colt.
Crowley gives the Colt to the Winchesters to kill Lucifer. Dean uses it against the hellhounds, and either wounds, or kills one, but is unable to stop them all. Dean shoots Lucifer in the head at point-blank range. Lucifer falls and appears to be dead at first, but he gets up in pain, the bullet wound in his forehead heals, and he punches Dean into a tree, this causes Dean to drop the colt and when Castiel rescues him he is unable to retrieve it. Lucifer explains to Sam that he is one of five things in all of creation that the gun can't kill.

However, The SuperWiki has been wrong...

This screencap clearly shows Dean is holding The Colt after hitting the tree:
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m596/DeanWinchesterIsMine/Dean%20Pics/dean-colt-1.jpg

So, that means they must still have the Colt. Maybe they (Dean) stashed it in the trunk of the Impala... But, then, if they did in fact have the Colt they would have taken it with them when Cass zapped them back to 1861 to kill the Pheonix.

Ugh, I guess we'll never know. Unless it shows up again. We can only hope!

Yep, thats the scene i was talking about. There was also a scene that showed the same ground after cas took them away, the gun wasn't on the ground.

The gun hasn't been seen or mentioned likely for the same reason why they keep trying to get rid of Cas, it gives them to much power. No need to struggle to find a way to kill a monster when you've got a gun that can kill almost anything. But they could easily go back to the way the gun was when they first got it, it having a limited amount of bullet's. As far as we know, Bobby was the only one who knew how to make more.

I can already tell I'm going to love this. Maybe I'm getting nostalgic, but it's so weird having the boys with absolutely no one. It's been awhile since they've lived like that. Having a familiar face around can give them all kinds of script gold to work with. And she's just an awesome actress anyway :D

I liked the latest episode, Man's Best Friend With Benefits though I did think the villain was très obvious. The 'familiar' aspect was a nice twist, something we haven't seen before but which is common in witch-lore... would have liked an answer to whether the chicken or the egg came first, though!

I do hope they get back to the main story soon, though. I don't know who the real villain is, in this season. I know we're being corralled into Crowley (my favourite demon ever), but I'm also leaning towards Naomi being evil (in a cold, soulless sort of way), too. At least, in relation to Our Heroes. I'm itching to find out what she's up to, and how she knows so much, and why she needs to control Castiel and have him report in about Sam & Dean. I'm not sure how I feel about the route the story is taking -- there's always been a clear command chain in heaven, going down from arch-angel, to seraphim, to standard angel and then the lesser angels like cherubim. I just hope the revelation that angels can be controlled and maybe even reprogrammed doesn't screw the whole thing up for me.

Also, I'm thinking something HORRIBLE happens to Sam at the end of this season. 'Cos at the end of S1, Dean nearly died. Then at the end of S2, Sam did die. At the end of S3, Dean died and went to hell. At the end of S4 they both almost got nuked by Lucifer rising. At the end of S5 Sam got banished to the Cage, at the end of S6 Sam nearly went insane because of it, and at the end of S7 Dean spent a year in Purgatory. I'm thinking it might be Sam's turn again now for some punishment.

No one knows much about Naomi. Lots of speculation though...
She could be an angel, maybe not. She might be a demon, or at least working with Crowley. Maybe not. Some think she is one of the sisters of fate that stepped in to take over after God left the building. Whatever she is, she seems to be in charge....of something, maybe. She is for sure screwing with Cas' mind, and she wants the tablet. And that is about all we know.

From what I've heard: Female characters do not fare well on SPN. So she's got a high likelihood of biting the dust.

Personally, I'd like to see her make it, at least for this season. I've got a lot of questions about her, but I'd still want to see more of her.

Also, does Crowley still have the tablet?

May 9th, 2013, 03:57 PM
Crowley still has the angel tablet but not the demon one.

I could imagine that Naomi survives the finale episode of this season but she also might die, of course. Don't know how much time Amanda has. If she has not much time because of other project and they knew it from the beginning, they probably kill Naomi off next ep. If she has more time they probably kill her off during the next season. But sooner or later she surely will die. I still would like to see her turn good and live, though.

Well, he told Castiel to 'find me here in Heaven when you die and your soul comes here' which I take to mean he plans to be the only angel left there. After all, he punished the angels for driving him into exile on Earth, so why would he willingly exile himself to a life of mortality? Souls of angels don't go to Heaven when they die, so if Metatron had fallen with the rest, he wouldn't be able to meet Castiel again, as Castiel is now mortal and therefore his soul will go to heaven.

Essentially, it makes him the new God.

@Spaceman: True, I thought about the thing he told to Cas, later, too. So he really seems to have a way to bypass the system.
Whereas he would also go to heaven if he was expelled from heaven. Looks like they fall and all become humans. Surely there will be some funny eps with too naive angels who don't know how to live life and stuff :D . But also probably many very mean angels.

They've never told us that. They didn't appear to be in Purgatory, unless there are different levels of Purgatory. I'd guess maybe their "energy" gets sent back to the cosmos or something so there'd be no afterlife for them. (That is, until Supernatural eventually brings one back....)

I don't remember who it was atm but at one time one angel or someone in the series said that humans can be lucky because their souls live forth after their bodies die while the angels don't know what happens to them after death.
But when you think about what Metatron said to Cas it is pretty obvious that fallen angels become humans and thus their souls return to heaven after death.

Not necessarily. Metatron only said that Castiel's soul would return to heaven—Metatron forced Castiel to become mortal by taking his grace, not by exiling him from heaven. If 'falling' was enough to cause an angel to become human, then Lucifer, and Anna (after she regained her grace but remained fallen) and Cas (when he was 'fallen' after Leviathans incident and provided his blood to Dean to send the Leviathans back to purgatory) would have been essentially powerless. I suspect when an angel 'falls' he/she retains some of their powers (depending on their level—lower level angels are severely weakened, whilst seraphim and arch-angels remain powerful) but they still have what makes them an angel—their grace. Only once grace is removed does the angel become mortal.

Yeah, I know how different sites see it. But in the end I think they just made it a bit too easy in Supernatural. They needed the blood of a fallen angel for fighting the Leviathans and then simply said that Cas was one. But he did not fall because he still had his grace and thus his angelic powers. Lucifer did not fall, either. Anna was the only one who truly fell but after she got her grace back she was not a fallen angel anymore, either.
Cas just fell right now because Metatron took his grace. And all the other angels seemed to have fallen, too. And just like Anna I guess they all become human in the process. At least until they get their graces back.
Another thing they did in SN that made no sense was that Cas lost his powers in season 5 because he was locked out from heaven. Makes no sense because he did not have that problem, after that. That Gabriel and Lucifer did not have this problem could be explained with them being archangels. But Metatron on the other hand is also just a regular angel and he did not lose his powers, either.
You now can explain that in several ways (and those wiki entires are not necessarily the truth but also just written by fans) but in the end it's just something where the producers of Supernatural didn't do a great job. In season 5 they probably feared that Cas might be a too powerful ally and so they made up the crap with the losing powers. Would have been better if they stayed at Cas being too busy in heaven to help out the brothers so much. Like in Stargate with the Asgard (although they could have shown the Asgard more often and did not have to make such a ****ty ending).
Btw angels normally become human when falling in other movies and stuff. Watch the movie "Gabriel" for example ;) . Although there the angels also lose their power when cut off from heaven but they only become human when they truly fall.

Except that Naomi categorically stated to Dean and Castiel that the result of Metatron's spell would cause "All angels to be banished, just as Lucifer was banished [to Earth]"

In season 5, Castiel was just a 'normal' angel. After he was resurrected by God, "new and improved" in his own words, he is reinstated as a seraph (as he confirms to Dean and Benny [twice] in Purgatory).

That Gabriel and Lucifer did not have this problem could be explained with them being archangels.

And as with the seraphs, arch-angels do not lose their powers upon falling.

Not all of them, no. Like Castiel in season 5, he still seems able to teleport and do other low-level angel things. But the dude knew everything on the angel tablet. I don't think he would have left heaven if it would have meant him being power-less. More than likely, he found a way around it, or merely knew enough to (like Gabriel) keep him hidden.

And if you watch "Dogma" you'll find out that Metatron is actually Alan Rickman, Loki the Trickster was actually the angel of Death, and Jesus was black. And if you watch Constantine, you learn that Gabriel is actually a halfbreed (half-angel, half-human), Balthazar is a demon-human halfbreed and that only halfbreeds are technically 'allowed' to interact with humanity. In SPN, the halfbreed role would fall to the Nephilim, which according to the actual book of Enoch are abominations.

In other words, stay within the SPN frame of reference. Because once you start pulling non-SPN films/programmes into it, and try to use them to justify your own SPN-theories, it opens the door for other people to do the same, and yet nothing is achieved as no other source, be it film, programme or Bible, is one-hundred percent in-keeping with SPN lore (otherwise, Uriel would have been an arch-angel, as would Metatron, and the angel of death would have been Azrael or Loki or hell, Discworld's skeletal anthropomorphic personification of death via a skeleton—take your pick).
