How did the producers of SG1 create or recreate the computer programs at the SGC and assorted other offworld locations such as at the Tollana planet etc. that seem so realistic (at least to the ordinary viewer) that Sam was always working with? That was one of the most realistic aspects of the series.

Obviously they used a form of photoshop and some special trickery to do it. I remember reading something about UI's that was interesting; I don't remember it that clearly but I do know that the actions are predefined so whatever they're typing is part of the script. I'm guessing that whatever is on the screen has to be the result of a video being played or in the lesser used case, special effects.
If people could create an entire OS to use on a movie, they would but since they can't; they have to settle for the pre-defined UI's. I agree with you that the interface is one of the most realistic aspect of the show though.Back from the grave.
