    About the 2 earth gates...

I was watching the SG movie today and it occured to me to question how the gate in Egypt got there in the first place.

Has the Goa'uld made a habit of setting up gates on other worlds?

They did not know that the ancients already had a gate in Antartica and at some point the Goa'uld found humans and set up a gate so they could ferry human slaves about the galaxy. That's the only theory that comes to mind.

    Anyone else have an idea?

Presumably, the Antarctic stargate (Earth's original stargate) was engulfed by a glacier by the time the Goa'uld had discovered Earth. Going from SG-1's point of view rather than the movie, we can assume the Unas-Goa'uld were dieing out. Perhaps the Unas hosts were rejected the Goa'uld parasites for one reason or another? Ra was dieing, he found Earth and discovered that he could live forever in a human body. Ra took a host, established himself as Ra the sungod, and deposited a stargate.

The Antarctic gate was buried by glacier flows by the time that the Goa'uld found Earth, so Ra set up the gate in Egypt (most likely the largest and most advanced civilization on the planet).

When the gate in Egypt was buried, the gate in Antarctica would have been the one the wormhole connects to.

            Not a bad explanation.
