Well, that depends on a lot of factors. If you had a body exposed to the elements and wild animals...it would be down to a skeleton at no time at all. I mean, we find mummies with dried leathery skin on them...but again that's because of the conditions in which they were buried.

It was a hot, humid, climate and that would speed things up.

Well, I was watching NCIS...and they were digging up bodies in the Virginia area. These bodies were just skeletons. The medical examiner said that the bodies could be in the state they were found as quickly as six months.

Weather and altitude are one factor. Animals are another, as is bacterial considerations. In a jungle like environment, the soil is a treasure trove of microorganisms. That would speed decomposition by a factor of five.
