View Full Version : Thinking about trying this series out...

So I'm a long time fan of sci-fi but didn't REALLY get into what I would call the "culture" of it until this summer, when I tried out Stargate SG-1. Since then I have finished up SG-1, Atlantis, started BSG, and thinking about trying out more shows. This happens to be one of the ones I'm thinking of.

Most of the negative reviews on Amazon seem to be on the packaging of the discs rather than the show itself. I have read a fair amount of the positive reviews and it seems pretty interesting.

What reasons could I expect to enjoy this show if I were to get into it?

EUReKA is quirky popcorn fun. Light, silly. Wonderful. Engaging characters. I love it to pieces.

So essentially a show to just sit back and relax and enjoy the show kind of show...

Are there any recurring themes/problems that happen?

Personally I did not engage with it in the slightest, however you may enjoy it, so if you want to give it a go then you should do it. Other peoples opinions can only get you so far, everyone is different with their tastes.

There is a sort of theme in S1&2 and again (different one) in S4 but nothing truly over arcing.

Eureka is a much more light hearted show. And some eps can be downright silly, but I've found it addicting.

I started watching in partly into S2 and this summer I decided to watch S1 and found it dragged alot, have yet to finish it. But I lovingly recommend S3 & S4.

Quirky is a good one word description. :) And Fun.

Okay...So it looks like Eureka is being re-released in new cases.

Do you think that Season 3 and 4 will be released in complete sets or do you think they will be released in the stupid 3.0, 3.5 crap...?

Everlovin
November 11th, 2011, 04:43 PM
I really hope for the S3 and S4. Not the whole 3.0, 3.5; 4.0, 4.5 business.

Yeah...It's quite annoying...Not just from a cost perspective but from a space-on-shelf perspective.

This is certainly one of the more fun series around. Season 1 is a little hit and miss, it seems to take them a while to settle into a rhythm - though this can be said for a lot of first seasons I think! Seasons 2 and 3 are better and I must say Season 4 has probably been, far and away, my favourite. There is some fantastically delivered humour from th start and so long as you don't go in expecting a serious scientific scifi program you should enjoy it :D...... Really looking forward to Season 5, will be sad to see the end........

Gen. Chris
November 15th, 2011, 10:29 AM
Hm...Well I suppose it should be worth watching. I wish I had the chance to watch it when it started but I was so busy :P

I'm probably going to wait until they release all the seasons in the new case.

Well idk about that...But all five seasons in the movie-sized case would be great.

I actually ended up buying the two seasons. I couldn't pass up such an opportunity.

Okay so what the hell is SyFy's deal?

Splitting up the seasons not only in DVD's but airing the two halves a year between each other. And season 5 of the show won't premier until...July? I could have sworn I read that production was almost done on the season, and it will take another 7 months?

And then will it be split in half again for a year?

Everlovin
November 22nd, 2011, 03:41 PM
They started splitting the seasons back during the writers strike a couple of years ago. They continued it because that way they don't have to renegotiate with the actors, et al, every year but every other year.

Yeah, they're pretty much done producing S5 and I haven't heard if they're splitting it up or just giving us the 20 episodes.

Personally, I think they should give us the 20 eps considering they've already axed the show. Why delay the angst?

I thought it was fourteen episodes?

If it must wait until July, I hope that I get a chance to see seasons 3 and 4 before season 5 comes out. I refuse to buy the split up seasons, though...So I hope that, since they are re-releasing them all, they re-release 3 and 4 as complete sets.

Maybe...But I doubt it...

Anyway, both seasons shipped. I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival. :)

I'm watching Warehouse 13 right now...I watched one episode just to try it out, and now I think I might not be able to make it til Xmas break to watch.

Hey! This is Chad Colvin, GateWorld's assistant editor. I wanted to clear some of this info up. Production on Season 5 of Eureka finished up way back in September. The sets have been dismantled, and the soundstages they used are up for grabs for other productions.

Season 5, unlike Season 4, is back to just a 13-episode run. Technically, the Christmas episode (which will air on Syfy the first full week in December) is one of those 13. Which would knock it down to 12 eps for the cliffhanger wrap-up from this summer and etc. They fully expected a Season 6, so 5.13 was/is another cliffhanger. Syfy initially said they were getting a six episode Season Six, then opted not to. In the end, Syfy ordered one final additional episode to tie up the cliffhanger and all of the series' other arcs. So back to 13 episodes. (Technically 14 including the Christmas one, as it was produced with the rest of Season 5). Bottom line, 5.14 is the finale for the series!

I was on the sets of Eureka for two days back in April and got to meet, interview and hang with all the cast and on all the sets. It was during filming of 5.03. We published the interviews with the cast on GateWorld's sister site, SciFiStream (http://www.scifistream.com), in the days leading up to this summer's premiere.

Once 5.03 airs, I have a ton of pics from my visit I can publish, but not prior due to legal/contractual/spoiler issues. But I'm still in contact with both cast members and crew and have a massive article about the series' end that will come next summer also. Hope this clears things up! And for the thread starter....hope you enjoy and stick with it! It's a fantastic series!

Since the final season is only those remaining 13 episodes, the run should be straight through with no breaks at all, save for any holidays the run may bump up against like Labor Day at the end of summer. The pairing of Eureka with WH13 and Alphas proved to be successful ratings-wise so I fully expect them to do it again in 2012 (considering all 3 are "summer series" and all have 13-episode season orders).

If that changes between now and July, I'll be the first to let you know. But with only 13 episodes, it's very doubtful.

This year's Christmas episode will air Dec 6th at 8/7 Central. A good chunk of it is animated in various styles and features the voices of Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory's "Sheldon"), Chris Parnell from SNL, Edward James Olmos and Matt Frewer (who is a recurring guest star on the show anyway). Happy thanksgiving! Between now and Christmas Day, you can catch it at these times, all eastern time zone:

Dec 8 05:00 PM
Dec 9 02:00 AM
Dec 10 01:00 AM
Dec 12 04:00 AM
Dec 13 02:00 AM
Dec 17 05:00 AM
Dec 18 09:00 AM
Dec 20 09:30 AM
Dec 21 03:00 AM
Dec 23 02:00 AM
Dec 23 08:30 AM
Dec 23 11:00 PM

I just completed season 1.

Thoughts: It was a little slow until it got closer to he end. I was kind of shocked at when the house turned on everyone they still lived there (especially after it killed the pizza boy)...Lol

Now onto season 2

Everlovin
December 18th, 2011, 04:52 PM
I adore SARAH! Yeah, a little slow, but there are so many LOL bits. My favorite of that season was probably "Before I Forget" with Kim and her sleazy husband.

Gen. Chris
December 18th, 2011, 10:17 PM

I'm almost done with Season 2 now. Sorry I'm not really expressing my thoughts but I'm watching away from the computer.

Gen. Chris
December 20th, 2011, 11:34 PM
Well, I'm completely done with the seasons of Eureka that I own. My thoughts:

The show is good. Addicting? Not quite. But does it appeal to me? Definitely.

I'm sad that there are only 3 seasons left for me to watch, though grateful that seasons 3 and 4 are longer than the first two.

As for now, I will not be purchasing seasons 3 and 4. Since the first two seasons have be re-released in new packaging, I'm hoping that in a few months the same will happen to at least season 3. I'd hate to buy season 3.0 and 3.5 and then a month later have the complete 3rd season come out.

I'll be on the lookout for ways to watch seasons 3 and 4 before season 5 premiers next year. If I can't get it done by then, or if the third season hasn't been released by then, I'll bite the bullet.

Everlovin

Let's see. Off the top of my head, my favorite of S2 was Noche de Suenos. That and E=MC?.

I guess a part of what I love so much about it is that it's a popcorn show. Not too heavy (although there is some of that in there) But I can put it in anytime and watch. It always puts a smile on my face.

Everlovin

No, same one. They just split S3 between "From Fear to Eternity" and "Welcome Back Carter" and then split S4 in two as well. It just seems closer because it's 'two' seasons since then.

Everlovin
January 4th, 2012, 05:07 PM

Lol...Fargo appeared on Warehouse 13 season 3 "Don't Hate the Player"...How does he get to keep his job, especially now that he is head of GD with all his screw ups? Lol

That episode would have been better with a full on Eureka/W13 crossover, with Sheriff Carter in it as well. But I guess that would have been a little out of his "jurisdiction"...Lol

Yeah, I hoped for more EUReKA-ness in that episode. It could have been any gamer/scientist and didn't need to be Fargo.

Fortunately for GD, Fargo doesn't screw up as much as he used to.

I still love the Fargo/Claudia ship of EUReKA's S4.0. I don't know the seasons for WH13.

My gf and I continued our watch of the show last night (we started back in December but she gave up after 5 episodes, leading me to watch the rest on my own) and she appeared to like it. We only watched three episodes though. She said she would be willing to watch more tonight. Perhaps I can get her hooked on it in time for the premier of season 5.
