Castiel doesn't kill Sam, Dean or Bobby, but warns them not to interfere in his business. Assuming his new role as God, Castiel sets out to right some of the wrongs in the world. Dean decides they should bind Death and make him stop Castiel, but the former angel is one step ahead of them, leaving Dean to face a very angry Death. Meanwhile, Sam struggles to deal with the broken wall in his head.

Once again I am not done watching the episode, but I went :O when Castiel went to that Church.

Not because he was posing as God, but by hearing the speech of the priest. At least there is only one Church I know of that goes to Weddings and Funerals in order to hate on People. Eventhough Castiel went bonkers, in reality I would kind of thank him for it. In general it seems like he is doing good besides everything.

What a season premiere!

Surprised me on so many levels and I really loved it.

I didn't love what they did to Cas, because I love Cas - but concerning the ongoing story and season I think this was a great start because we might lose our all time favourite angel - but not so much Misha Collins who I think had real fun playing the Leviathan.

Oh, and I was really, really surprised to see Mark Pellegrino! Maybe it wasn't the worst idea to stay a little bit away from the spoilers this time around, because I really hadn't any clue that he would be in this episode.

There was so much to love, on a visual base alone. I just say: rebuilding the Impala was sheer love, seeing dean in all those nice shirts and the overall. There were some greeeat visual effects in Sams hallucinations - and some nice Sam whumpage as well.

And we had some fabulous team moments, even when the "Team Free Will" ones were too sparse, but they were there (Bobby padding Cass' shoulder...) and maybe a glimpse or two into forgiving.

So, I loved it. Can't wait to have another one :D

I'm with you, iolanda, the show came back from the summer hiatus with a bang. And what a twist to make Cas lose his God-status in the first episode! I don't know if that was leaked in any way because I stayed away from spoilers as well, but it completely caught me unawares. I was expecting them to have God as their adversary this season, and now it's a completely new ballgame.

Having Dean rebuild the Impala was a nice comeback to the beginning of S2. So glad to see Dean's Baby alive and well again.

Crowley was a nice surprise, and I just LOVED the scene with Death. Whoever casted that actor deserves a medal. His cool, aloof, slightly annoyed manner is just epic. And it's so much fun to see him reduce Dean to the mannerisms of a six year old who has been summoned to the principal's office. At least he has Death's taste figured out. Pickle chips? Really? I had no idea such a thing even existed.

As for Cas, I think Dean's comment in the end about him being a 'child' was very true. He reminded me of a kid who vows never to become like their parents, but once they have kids of their own they realize that being a good parent isn't as easy as it looks. To a child, the world is black and white, but in reality that's hardly ever the case, and the decisions and judgments you make will be misunderstood by your own children. I really felt for Cas when he asked the guy in the Senator's office why he couldn't see that Cas was putting his needs first by rooting out liars and hypocrites.

And what the heck was up with Luci? What perfidy to claim everything that's happened since Sam got out of the cage was a hallucination! They're not going to jump the shark like that, are they? Pretend all of S6 didn't actually take place?

Something else I enjoyed was the proof that Dean can still overpower a civilian with a shotgun without even breaking a sweat. And the scene with the whiskey and the 'Asian cartoon porn' was too funny.

This was a terrific opening to a new season. I was afraid that the series was going to lose itself after six seasons. But the humour and the excitement were both there.

I still miss the good old days when the boys just hunted exotic monsters and fairy tales each week, but the epic arcs have been always interesting.

It made sense that Castiel-as-God would strike down people who lie in his name; but I did not like the social/political statements (sodomy is cool, conservative politicians are bad). My fantasy television is my escape from those controversies.

Nah, no way they'll make S6 a dream. It's just a perv game Lucifer is playing with him. I'm not so sure if Lucifer himself is a hallucination or if it's really him and he can reach for Sam from his cage.

I still wonder hod Dean did disarm the guy and his wife :D. I thought it was a clever idea to let the ritual happen right there and have the two civillians in the background. Their "WTF!?" faces were too funny!

This was a great way to start off Season 7. Both my wife and I really enjoyed this one, and can't wait to see where things go from here. I can't get over how everything went down with Castiel. That was definitely pretty sad to see.:( These Leviathans could be pretty awesome as bad guys.:)

I enjoyed the opener. Interesting to see what they did with it. I avoided spoilers so nice surprises all around...well except when I see the obvious names in the credits and thus wait for those characters to show up.

Wasn't expecting them to resolve the Cas as god thing so quickly, but I like that they did and got that out of the way as he was way too powerful in that state. Poor Cas. I really think he might be dead for good this time. :(:(

Great start! I was wondering too if ideas would be running out, but having Cas as God and then losing it all by the end was a nice touch. He got caught out much like Dean did being Death for a day, you have an idea what is right but the consequences of your actions are never what you'd expect!

Poor Sam, he's not going to have a good time of it by the looks of those hallucinations and memories of hell coming back. Be interesting to see how this plays out, can he be relied on, and what sort of problems will it cause for them?

I totally agree Starg8fans about the great performance of Julian Richings as Death throughout the series. Wonderfully understated and really comes across as someone you just can't mess with...ever!!!

Now Cas has to do battle with Leviathans, I'm sure he's still in there and will have some sort of trick up his sleeve. I'm actually hoping that all this is God teaching his children a lesson and Cas will be made to face the error of his ways at some point and get back on the path God set out for his angels. It's also great how the Winchesters end up helping or destroying things that are incredibly powerful in quite surprising ways, it's a wonder they still exist and how they survive is the fun of this show! Guess the all powerful have a soft spot for the boys, or find them amusing!!! :D

Like the idea of the Leviathans as another new powerful big bad to face, just love how Supernatural can still come up with great new ideas after all this time.

I enjoyed this episode. Cas as the vengeful God was pretty entertaining. Thought they ended that storyline too quickly though. Would have liked to have seen that go on for a few episodes at least.

Death was awesome, they need more of him. I thought he pretty much stole the scene that he was in.

I suspect that the boys will need to release Michael from the cage to deal with the leviathans, at least from what Cas said when he said the Michael couldn't be released. But then he might have been saying that Michael was the only one that could defeat Cas in god mode.

The actor who plays Death is amazing. There is no doubt about that. I certainly hope we see more of Death throughout this season.

What a great way to kick off season 7. The writing was terrific and I think all of the actors were outstanding. I was really afraid of where they were going with Cas, but I was so enthralled by the end, that I'm ok with seeing where it takes him.

I wasn't expecting the Cas is God thing to go away so quickly either. But now we have the Cas is Leviathan thing going on. So, well have to see how that turns out.Which I think is an interesting turn. There was no way the brothers could go up against Cas as god so this gives them a fighting chance and makes "Cas" more of an adversary. This doesn't put Cas back to normal just like that. So it is following through with repercussions rather than a complete resolution in one ep.

I also don't think Cass is dead either.

If he is a lot of fans will be pissed off.I know it would piss off a lot of people if they did kill him, which is why I think they just might do it. Not to deliberately piss people off but because most will think there is no way they'd do it. And with MC no longer a regular and only in one other ep so far, I think this might be it for Cas...especially if they don't get a pick up for an 8th season. And while I'd hate to have Cas die, I think it could work great in the story.

What a great start to Season 7.

Loved that it carried on straight off from last season, dealing with the cliff hanger ending and then didn't hang around dealing with Cas going off the rails.

Seeing Cas in Heaven surrounded by all the smitten angels was an incredibly powerful scene. You knew from seeing it that he wasn't going to mess around....and he didn't.

He decided to punish the hypocritical preachers and cynical politicians (well who wouldn't?) Although the massacre was a bit extreme....but kind of necessary to prick Cas' conscience.

Had to smile at seeing Cas imprinting his trench coated image in the stained glass and then going out and performing miracles.

As soon as I saw the slippers pacing the floor I knew it was Crowley. I recognised the walk. :p A lot of fun seeing him hiding in the trailer ... almost resigned to his fate and genuinely surprised that Cas let him live...but didn't waste an opportunity to wriggle out of his precarious situation.

“I gather this is not a negotiation.”
“No.”
“Then I graciously accept.”

Nice to see Dean working on the Impala. The one thing that remains a constant in his life.

I cheered seeing Mark Pellegrino again. But poor Sam...he's obviously been put through some serious mind frelling to make him think he's still in the Cage.

And don't worry Stars...I don't think there's any chance of S6 not having happened....because none of the other things happening with Cas, Dean and Bobby would make any sense. It's just a torturing device to demoralise Sam. But it'll be interesting to see if they're going to go with Lucifer influencing Sam from the Cage or if it's all in Sam's broken mind.

The whole scene with Death was great. The look of it and the interaction between Dean and Death. They're all so terrified of him...like they should be...but they still have the guts to mess with him. It could so easily be ridiculous...but it isn't. Far from it. The acting and the writing really are perfect.

Never thought I'd feel so emotional at the end thinking Cas lay there dead. But as soon as he drew breath I knew something else would happen. We weren't going to get away that easily!
Whether Cas is really gone for good we don't know...but I'm glad that there was some redemption for him and a bit of forgiveness on Dean's part. It does feel as if he's not coming back though.

Cue the next big bad - with Misha having fun!

Oh yes... I reckon I'm the only fan who doesn't know what a grey poupon is.

But then again, I'd never heard of anime p*rn either. So I checked it out on Super Wiki (yes..I know: some things are best left unknown) and now I need some brain bleach. This show is so educational. ;) :p

Some great quotes as usual.

Bobby calling Death “Your honour.”

“We all saw him. No beard, no robe. He was young and…and sexy. He had a raincoat—”

“Hi Sam - long time no spooning.”

“You never left Sam. You're still in the cage...with me.”

lol. I laughed when he said that. :D It's "fancy" mustard. In the US many many years ago, they used to run commercials for it where rich people would ask other rich people for it. Here's one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_pGT8Q_tjk) and lol...someone commented about Dean saying this in SPN. :D

No comment on the anime porn, though I had no doubt that it existed considering some of the weird stuff that comes out of Japan in the way of anime and video games, etc.

Not sure we'll ever really know but I was thinking that that was the moment when Cas realised what he'd done and wanted to fix it.

Me too. After all the discussions on what was up with Sam early in the last season...it'll be interesting to find out if in fact Luci did somehow attachment himself to Sam but was restricted because of the wall. But now is free to play his games.

Man, I gotta get back in the swing of things. I'm a little late to the party, and it's been a few days since I've seen the ep, but here goes.

I've decided Misha can be really creepy when he wants to be. I'm not sure how I feel about all the new stuff. It is obviously really early, and I'm getting used to shows not telling us everything. I guess my first reaction is that I don't want Misha to go, and I'm thinking maybe they don't really need a season-long Big Bad. Maybe just some Great Wall of Sam collapsing and monster-of-the-week stuff for a little while.

Oh well, I'll see where it goes, and at least enjoy the view while I wait :)
