    Who's on SG-1 now?

When the show ended; the team consisted of Mitchell, Carter, Jackson, Teal'c, and Vala. All five of them were still on the team in The Ark of Truth. After that, Carter left the team to run the Atlantis Expedition. Towards the end of Atlantis's fourth season, Teal'c visited Atlantis with longer hair and in Jaffa garb. This seemed to implied that he'd also left the team to rejoin his people. Who replaced Carter? Who replaced Teal'c? In the Atlantis fifth season premiere, Carter was replaced by Woolsey. In the series finale, we see Carter running the SGC while Landry was in Washington. This implied she had returned to SG-1 or was at least working at the SGC once more. In Universe, she's given command of her own ship, the Hammond. Every Jackson appearance since Continuum (2 Atlantis Episodes, a few Universe episodes) has featured him in civilian clothes. Is he still on the team? Then there's Vala. Continuum ended with her staying behind on the Tok'ra home world to help Ba'al's cloned host recover from being possessed by the cloned Ba'al. Brad Wright said that she wouldn't appear in Revolution, the proposed third SG-1 film (that sadly won't be made).

Mitchell: Presumably still leading the team.
Carter: Left to run Atlantis, returned for a year (presumably), left again to command the Hammond. Who filled her shoes?
Jackson: Is he still on the team? Nine years is a long time. I'd like to think he left the team, but is still working with the SGC. He'd also probably still go on missions, but without being assigned to a specific team.
Teal'c: If you go by Atlantis "Midway," set a year after The Ark of Truth, we can presume Teal'c has rejoined his people. I can't imagine there'd be anyone to fill his shoes. If anything, a... what... a big, scary, silent Marine?
Vala: Is she still on the team? She only joined to help them fight the Ori. With that threat gone and Ba'al defeated, what reason is there for Vala to be on the team?

So... if we assume Carter, Jackson, Teal'c, and Vala left the team... who'd you imagine replaced them?

Hopefully Mitchell went back to what he can do, which is commanding a fleet of 302s. Or maybe he's commanding the moon base, which could house the new fleet of 302s/other Tau'ri space ships.

Out of respect for the work SG-1 has done, no new team gets the SG-1 designation. After all, it's the flagship team of the SGC and it would require some expertise (although you wouldn't be able to tell with how Mitchell got his position and free rein to pick his team). Most of the people we have been introduced to throughout the show that are qualified enough to be the flagship team (and that are still alive) have a good position on a different team. Personally, I'd like to think SG-3 (maybe SG-2, but we didn't hear that much from them - and whatever happened to Ferretti?) would be taking over.
    Unmade Plans (WIP: 11/20):
Sam's life takes a turn in an unexpected direction when she's faced with an unplanned pregnancy. The decision to keep the baby and raise it on her own will alter her life forever. Relationships are put to the test, especially the one between her and Jack. She doesn't know what to expect from him and he surprises her at every turn.

Why take Mitchell off the team? After his deadly F-302 crash landing, General O'Neill promised him any position he wanted if he'd make a full recovery. Mitchell chose SG-1, that's where he wants to be. As for a moon base, I never understood this. It's impractical, the moon has no atmosphere. I could buy a Martian base, though.

As for simply having no SG-1 team at all, wouldn't that make SG-2 the flagship team by default? Why not just select the best of the best and assemble a new team? You've already got a team leader. All you need is experts on the stargate, Ancients, various alien cultures, and a specialist for Lucian Alliance encounters.

Or Rya'c jumping into in his Dad's shoes?
Or Cassie decides to go 'quirky' and help out?

Since Atlantis ended up on Earth, some of them are now part of SGC.

Teal'c has been replaced by Ronon.
          Mitchell is still there.
Daniel and Vala have run off together.
John Sheppard leads his own team, called SG 1A (since he wants to be better than Mitchell)

Because I don't like him. He's a rookie when it comes to offworld travel and should have never been placed on SG-1, let alone given command.

Which was very OOC for Jack and I assume he would have expected better judgment from Landry. Quite possibly Jack 'promised' him that because he thought Mitchell wouldn't be fit for duty afterwards, wouldn't have the balls to ask something as outrageous as to be on SG-1 with no field experience whatsoever or because Jack knew SG-1 had disbanded and assumed there wouldn't be a new team.

That could very well be the reason, none of their enemies would expect to find a secret stash of spaceships there. Besides, they have the Asgard legacy, I'm sure they could make it work. After all, they managed to make spaceships that fly through space where there is no breathable atmosphere. Mars is too far away (there's no gate and they'd need a spaceship to get there) and NASA is sending stuff there for pictures etc. It would be odd for them to suddenly stop without telling the public why.

But the other SG teams already are a cohesive unit, why break up something that's obviously working just so you can shuffle people around and force them into new teams (especially if you're not going to add new experts)? And I suggested SG-3 because we seem to hear more about them than SG-2 and SG-3 has also backed up SG-1 on several occasions.

I would like to see the SG1 designation retired, too. But given it's the military involved here, that's not likely. They would most likely assign new people to become "SG1" and keep it going. And hopefully, anyone assigned to SG1 would realize the honor that would go with it and treat it respectfully, since it was the very first SG team created.

I don't dislike him. But I agree with the rest. He was like a kid with a bad case of hero worship and when he finally got to work with the "real" SG1, he didn't give them much respect, nor did he listen to those who had years of experience before him, he behaved irresponsibly, and got himself, as well as the others injured, kidnapped, beaten, almost killed on any number of occasions. He also somewhat disrespected the Jaffa in their own "house", so to speak, but interrupting a counsel meeting and trying to tell them what to do and not to do. But lucky for him, Teal'c shut him up. He was not a leader worthy of being assigned to SG1 (IMO).

SG1 was certainly the 'A' team but I doubt they would ever retire the designation. Military units change constantly, there's an appreciation for the history and the men and women who have come before but the team would continue on, changing as needed.

Nine years on, she'd definitely be a captain by now.

I could see some of that happening. However, Ronon would never abandon the Pegasus galaxy. In the Atlantis finale, he and Teyla were committed with staying in Atlantis to help protect the Earth. With the hive destroyed and Earth safe, they'd probably return to Pegasus.

Fair enough. I liked him and thought he added to the team. However, I agree, he shouldn't have been given team leadership when he'd never been through the stargate.

Which was very OOC for Jack and I assume he would have expected better judgment from Landry. It wasn't so much OOC for Jack as it was poor writing. Mitchell, a fighter pilot who'd never been through the stargate is going to be given leadership of the #1 team? Really? I like Mitchell, but they needed to rethink this. Just have him being transferred from another team or something.

That could very well be the reason, none of their enemies would expect to find a secret stash of spaceships there. The point is, Mars has an atmosphere, our moon does not. Yes, there's ships and all, but they're mobile. I just think that if you're going to have a planetary base, it should be on a planet or moon with an atmosphere. You should never rely 100% on technology. The nice thing about a space ship is that if it's critically damaged, it can land somewhere. What if the moon base suffers a disaster, shutting down all of the computers? What if they start venting atmosphere? It would only be practical if there was a ship who's sole purpose was to ferry people back and forth between Earth and the moon.

But the other SG teams already are a cohesive unit, why break up something that's obviously working just so you can shuffle people around and force them into new teams (especially if you're not going to add new experts)? It's called the real world, people are transferred all the time, cohesive teams are broken up all the time out of necessity for people to be reassigned. Welcome to reality.

That's what I meant. They wrote Jack out of character. I blame the writers, not the actor.

But it's not a necessity in this case if all of the original (or even "new") SG-1 are gone. They have plenty of teams there's no need to shuffle everyone just to fill an empty designation. As for the real world, they travel to other planets/galaxies through a wormhole created by alien technology...

Hailey was the young cadet in "Prodigy" that Sam decided had potential to be in the program and brought her on a trip to a research site in that episode. She appeared again later in "Proving Ground", with three other potential candidates for the SGC. Jack referred to her as the "4' 9" fighting machine". She was a genius in her own right and would likely make a good replacement for Sam.

As far as Cassie goes, I think that bomb in her chest disintegrated or dissolved, leaving the same sort of naquadah residue in her that Jolinar left in Sam. Sam said something like that when the team was at the park at the end of the episode.
