    Ignoring the Drones

During the encounter at the beginning of the episode they ran into a group of drones orbiting a good star. I don't see why they didn't just ignore them and continue on their dive. All the defenses had to do was put off the threat until they entered the star and recharged. If you would want to shorten the engagement then the destiny could have just dropped out of FTL a little closer to the star to give the machines a bit less warning.

Here's another thought. The drones didn't seem to be interested in complete life eradication. If they would have been then they would have nuked every planet they came across. Which that would be just another type of berserker.

because the drones would damage the ship before it would be even close to the star

mathematical mumbo jumbo on why destiny can't disengage from ftl right next to the star, probably. which means they have to do it farther out. which means drones can get to them.

they probably judged it inefficient. why barbeque a planet when you're only told to root out technology (and by extension beings capable of making them)

Destiny can't drop out of FTL really close to the star because of the gravity well produced by it (Faith). And the drones would destroy the ship before it reached the star if Destiny attempted to pass them. Brody said he 'lost count at 100', meaning there were hundreds of drones, way too many for Destiny to take on.

we've been told the drones were made for warfare.

wars tend to involve blasting a target, then moving in ground troops to mop up and occupy any fortifications left over (if useful, or strategically important.)

it would be logical, therefore, to assume the drones initially just had to wipe out the other guy's technology so their creators could come in, salvage any parts worth salvaging, et cetera.

But the creators of the drones are long gone...probably eradicated by the drones they created. Oh the irony!!!

aye. but a gun doesn't stop working because its maker or operator dies

and i can't remember for sure, but i think there remains a possibility of discovering unexploded munitions from WWII even today. slim, now, but it's there.

drones are essentially just a weapon. a highly sophisticated one, but they're designed to fulfil their purpose - without an operator. without the operator, there's no one to tell them to shut down

It does happen yes, in fact I seem to remember one being found not too long ago.

ignoring the drones and flying through them into the star is suicide.

That's the most likely explanation, but in "Earth", Destiny dropped out of FTL in what looked like close proximity: http://www.gateworld.net/gallery/alb...u_107_0929.jpg.

Along with the command ship itself. We saw from several eps of the Drones showing up, their fire CAN and will weaken our shields till we can't jump. Since we only go hit a star when energy reserves are low, that would make us unshielded.. NOT good for sundiving!
