    AV: Yes or No

So there is going to be a referendum on our voting system on May 5th this Thursday.

Should we keep FPTP or move to AV?

For those who don't know here's what's it about:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2...ernative-vote?

I will be voting yes because I believe for anyone to represent an area they must secure at least 50% of the popular vote, the only way I would even consider FPTP is if we adopted the American system of having only two parties.

I don't think it will lead to more coalitions as Australia have AV and have had one less coalition than we have.

I would be interested to know what Australians think about AV.

    What do you think?

It's essentially a vote for one crap system or another.

The Australian voting system is useless. You end up with small extreme minority parties controlling the majority parties, and bits of legislation being passed to please them that the large majority don't want.

Unfortunately, I'm not a British citizen, so I do not get to vote in this elections. However, I do have some strong opinions about this, and they are that unless a countries electoral system is PR (proportional representation), then to call it a democracy is pure hypocrisy. In the 2001 UK election, Labour got a third of all the votes, give or take, but got two thirds of the seats. So they got a majority in parliament even though a minority of voters had voted for them. How is that democratic?!?

Indeed I am. Graduating this year, but I've applied to do a masters there as well.
