A good one, but this could've been a good episode to launch a meta plot that would take an entire season to fight against the Vampires. I'd love to see a vampire/human war.

But I knew what Helen was planning. It's a shame to see the database go.

Yeah, it's a shame. I guess great science fiction always has consequences to actions. Reminds me of Farscape. Great Drama results. :D

I for one am glad we're not going into another long arc of subsequent episodes. I was getting tired of the Hollow Earth one by episode 9 and 10. I didn't want that to happen again.

And re-the bolded: I don't think a vampire/human war is out of the equation. I mean, we didn't SEE Affina (sp?) die. I think she could be back. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she is. ;) EDIT: I know there was a big BOOM, but still. There are always solutions I believe.

Now this was the Sanctaury I love :D Helen and Tesla were just wonderful together, love the snark and the caring :) Those two could do a comedy show :p These two are wonderfully written characters and thier interactions are not forced, they just go so well together (and I don't mean in a shippy way ;) ) The queen was also a good character, you knew she was not to be trusted and I loved Tesla disappointment in her when she threw him in that trap. The guy just falls for the wrong women :p Helen was also great going up against her, she knew she couldn't win, but she had to try. I like how Helen tricked the Queen, yep brains over brawn always works ;) Sad to see the map go though :(

All in all a great episode, Sanctuary is BACK BABY :D

That lady is a vampire queen. Do we really expect her to be dead?

After the last few very boring episodes, I can't believe how fast this one went by. I SO loved all of the Magnus/Tesla moments. Those two have such a great sibling-type of relationship. I've really missed that with the whole Hollow Earth mega-storyline. It's something we saw in small increments before, but that was when Nikola was a vampire and still quite untrustworthy.

Since everyone else has gotten a "date night" lately, I guess this was Helen & Nikola's version of it - vampire style. That's what makes them so enjoyable. They're so unpredictable.

I also loved the Kate part of the story. It's great to see they still have her past keep coming back to haunt her at times.

Right! Let's put Helen and Nikola aside for a moment! I loved the B Plot too. :) I think that guy, Caster (sp?), could be back sometimes! I love Kate's background story and how they use it in the show. :)

Okay, back to the Sanctuary I adore. Yay! Loved the Helen/Tesla snark.

And the vampire queen was so much better than the last several guests.

Was nice to see Helen use the the queen's notions about humanity against her. Helen:1 V.P.:0.

The Kate character was lots better tonight. The casual feel when she is with Biggie has become a nice part of the show. Sometimes I feel the actor forces Kate a bit but she seemed to catch the role nicely in this episode. Maybe a bit forced on the bridge toward the end but wasn't the computer generated city in the background amazing? So I was a bit distracted in a lovely way. :D

Yes, a nice B story. :D

I guess not.

But I must admit I was waiting for it since the first time they mentionned the vampire race was extinct. It was obvious we'd see some one day. It was only a question of when. ;P Now we have. ;D

I've always liked Henry, Unfortunately I don't like the Henry-focused eppys. I like him much better being tech guy in really good team eps - he can develop that way too. I might like him more paired with Magnus, but he keeps getting paired with Will. I adore him and Biggie though.

Hehe, we had a bit of fun with the cleavage in the live watch. I agree it was distracting. As it is seen so much in Vampire Folklore, Vamps can be so sexy! An use it for their advantage. Telsa did seem to be smitten. Till she dumped him. Literally.

Awesome doesn't even cover it in my book. After 3 episodes where they just went on forever, I didn't want this one to end!!! The hour went by too fast! So can't wait to watch it again....

The B plot was actually enjoyable, I love it when they bring up Kate's past (as it has been said here already.)

Very good episode. :) Though I felt like something was missing, I really don't what it was. I enjoyed this episode, I thought it was really good. :) It's a shame the ratings for it will be bad for the episode, and most likely for Normandy (a big episode) but it's not the shows fault.

I loved the bantering between Helen and Tesla, it was so them. :p I loved how Helen was trying to keep Tesla alive, it really showed how much she cared for him, even if she tried to hide it. Tesla was so cocky in this episode, but we still love him, and it was good to see him revamped back to who he really is. I laughed when I he tried to get out of that pit, but just couldn't get up there, but he was smart to use his magnetic powers to get out. The vamp queen was evil, she actually turned on the guy who wanted to help her, but I'm glad she got what she had coming to her, and how Helen gave her a hard shot with that pipe. Overall, they're story was great.

As for Kate's story, it was was also good. I like this side of her, when things from her past comes back that she doesn't like, but she works on a way to fix that. :) Kate's a strong person, and we need to see more of her like this. :) And I missed Henry. :p

I'm going to take a guess and say that what you feel was missing might well be the team unity? That's the feeling I had the second time I watched the episode. The first time around, I was just so happy to have some good Magnus/Tesla interaction, and some good Kate backstory as well, that I didn't focus on how they're still missing the "team" feeling to this show that we're so used to. I guess that's heightened even more since the past few episodes have been individually focused (and boring).

However, overall I'd consider this a MAJOR improvement over the last few weeks. Instead of constantly waiting for the episode to be done as in the past few episodes, here I couldn't believe that the episode was almost over when I first looked at the clock.

My thoughts are after just one viewing and without taking any notes while watching.

AWESOME EPISODE!!!

The B story was fine, but it was all about Helen, Nikola and the vampire queen for me. I thought their part of the story was pretty much perfect. I love Helen and Tesla's banter throughout. Tesla almost resigned to dying while Helen frantically tries to keep him alive. Without knowing what happened to John and with Helen's father living in Praxis, Nikola is the only one left from the old days. As annoying as he can be at times, I'm sure it would have devastated Helen to lose him.
--really loved the vampire queen. I liked how she wanted Magnus to join her court. Just about everyone falls for Magnus, don't they? ;)
--Tesla's reverence and then hatred for the queen was terrific. Love early on when she was awakened and Tesla says something like (sorry for the paraphrase), "Look at her. Strong, intelligent, holds up very well for age - all the qualities I look for in a woman." I'm sure I mangled the line, but it made me laugh out loud.
--I'm kind of glad the map to Hollow Earth was destroyed. It could have turned into a crutch ("check the database") when a problem needed solving. We know they got some info from it. That works for me.
--I'm a little surprised the queen didn't feed on Helen at all. As soon as she woke up, I was waiting for when she would go for Helen. I thought maybe that would be the moment where Tesla stopped following the queen around like a puppy dog - having to choose between the queen and saving Helen. But having the queen betray him and throw him into a pit was better. (Anyone have flashbacks to Sleepers where the young vamps tossed Nikola off the building? Wasn't that when he said, "Oh I hate them.")

I'll write more after another viewing. Overall - loved this episode!!!

:D Now this was the Sanctuary I know and love!

The banter between Helen and Nikola is great, and I was laughing out loud at them.
The vamp queen was also great.....as was her cleavage. :P

I even enjoyed the B story with Kate. It's nice to see the change in her from when she first came to the Sanctuary.

This episode perfectly shows the difference between scenes with two people in them; the adult banter between Helen and Nikola, and the childishness of Will and Abby.
I know which I prefer.

Great episode, and I'm so looking forward to next week.

I liked a bit of insight into Kate's past and her struggle to live up to what she perceives the Sanctuary's standards to be. Magnus has become something of a hero to her. I think it will be interesting to see what happens when she comes face-to-face with Magnus' dark side. Also, way to act like a grownup, finally, Will.

I know! I'm actually disappointed they were all blown up, I would've loved it if the Queen escaped and did either manage to reach Hollow Earth or start creating a new army of vampires ;)

I really enjoyed the episode but there were several things that bugged me.

-B story. Was this really necessary? Unlike previous episodes I think the Queen plot was strong enough to focus entirely on it, and the b-story added nothing new and was really obviously just a time filler.

-How they have to explain things sometimes is a bit annoying... like how Helen goes "we had our shiels on and it didn't recognise our vampire blood" or something like that, it's like, no ****. I love later how the Queen points out her condescending (or perhaps, simplistic) nature. I think I'd go for the latter, she does explain things very simply more often than not for someone so intelligent.

-I think the CGI for the "tomb" of the court was pretty.. poor

-Was it really believeable that the Queen's crystal structure was weakened enough by a shot a few millimitres into it that would've enabled Helen to smash it with a rock?

There were a few other things I forgot...

The last point... and maybe the main one for me, is that, did anyone notice that the Ashley's room is now the gym? Sure she always had some gym equipment there, but I can't believe they just chucked her room out and made it a gym :/

Well I have to say KUDOS that there has finally been a real episode of Sanctuary that reminded me of why I fell in love with this show in the first place...the mystery, the mystic, the history, the fun all there.

Unlike other episodes despite the fact that Nikola Tesla is not my favorite character I cannot say one episode he was in that I just did not adore and Awakening was the same. He and Magnus have such chemistry it's just absolutely amazing but I'm glad it's not there every single episode and he just comes by now and then...he would loose some of the mystery and suspense surrounding him if he was there every episode I think. :D

Let me also just say that it is FANTASTIC that they re-vamped him and in a VERY real way. I thought that rocked, truly. I didn't see it coming before learning about the episode and I can't wait to see what trouble he gets into now. LOL

Like others have said I'm glad they didn't make this into a long story-line, just enough hint that it may creep up again but dealt with the day to day operations and that was good...fantastic really as I much preferred it since the history of the vampires is already embroiled in the Sanctuary story as a whole.

Also one of the best things I loved about the B-story, the first one I really like as they usually don't deal with Helen and she is my favorite to watch on screen, it was nice seeing Will doing a little bit more of the reason he was recruited for the Sanctuary in the first place aka trying to help staff and patients deal with things or making them understand that their history isn't all they are today. That's the Will I fell in love with, I don't mind him kicking tail now and then but not every episode...he needs to be a little bit more like Daniel Jackson from SG1 in the first five seasons...knows which way to hold a gun but doesn't really like it much.

Kate and Biggie always have such great chemistry, ever since Haunted in season 2 they've just had some of the best scenes together. No Henry this episode but some nice mentions.

I agree with others...SANCTUARY IS BACK BABY!!!!!!!!!!

I think part of what I enjoyed with the vampire story in this one is that Magnus wasn't totally dismissed by the vamp queen as a mere mortal. After all, Helen does have a bit of vampire blood in her. Considering that Afina tossed Tesla aside as just a minion & not quite worthy, I'm glad she was able to spar a bit with Helen - even if she was going to use her for feeding at some point. (Ewww!)

helen and tesla flirting is fun! and great dialog and bantering! :p

helen really did come off a bit jealous. hehe.

the helen-vampire queen interactions were great, and i wish they'd have more one-on-one scenes. LOVED when helen said, 'i hope you choke on it'! :p

TOTALLY not just you - I thought the vampire queen was very...interested...in Helen. And seriously, who wouldn't be?!?!

I did think the line about not recognizing their vampire blood due to the shield bracelet was unnecessary, but didn't really bother me all that much. As far as Helen explaining things simply more often than not, I kind of like that. It is certainly something that sets Helen Magnus apart from Sam Carter - who frequently needed to be told to explain things in plain English as opposed to technobabble. :)

She wanted Helen as a fresh blood supply. Helen can't replentish that fast, so not sure what she was thinking.

Tesla sure came by is arrogance naturally. the queen was swimming in it. Helen was right to be cautious. Helen sure seemed...human. Which is fine. Good acting choice by Amanda.

Yeah, I'm very pleased with this ep. Gotta remember that though she may have written the eppy, I'd bet Damian polished it to make it fit his vision. (Though he needed glasses these last few eps  :S)

Will wasn't in it much. And wasn't paired with his girlfriend, so he wasn't trying to be glib. MUCH better.

You may not have been the only one to see the queen look at Helen a certain way, but like any ship, it's all in the viewpoint. I sure didn't notice anything.

I loved how Sanctuary returned to what I first loved it for!!! And I got my wish- more Helen and Tesla interactions. When they woke the queen, I was a bit skeptical and worried the show would have turned into a war between humans and vampires, which would have been a little cliched. Oh! I was sooo overjoyed that Tesla returned being a vampire; that was the icing on the cake! I must say, for a come-back episode, this really did bring the show back to its original high standards.

Strong, intelligent, holds up very well for age - all the qualities I look for in a woman." I'm sure I mangled the line, but it made me laugh out loud...........................

I really loved that too -- how he went from practically worshipping her to saying "I hate her" after she threw him in the pit. LOL :D That line reminded me of Sleepers too. And yes he did say "I hate them" after they tossed him off the building and he landed on the car. So now two times when he has encountered other vampires he's been thrown. 1) thrown off a building and 2) thrown into a pit, and both times were a long hard fall.

The banter between Nikola and Helen was great. AT and JY play their roles wonderfully and I always enjoy their scenes together. So many good lines between the two of them.

I wondered too whether we've seen the last of Afina. That was a pretty big explosion, but you never know, maybe she was able to save herself in those last few seconds. We'll see.

I wasn't as enthused about the other storyline, and it seemed like a time filler just to avoid having the entire show about the vampire queen, Magnus, and Tesla. But it was okay.

This is the kind of episode that keeps me watching the show and I will be re-watching this one. Great to see Nikola revamped.

As far as Helen explaining things simply more often than note, I kind of like that. It is certainly something that sets Helen Magnus apart from Sam Carter - who frequently needed to be told to explain things in plain English as opposed to technobabble. :)

This comment reminds me of something else I forgot to say.

The whole episode was very Stargate-y, or at least reminiscent of SG-1's Goa'uld arc. The hieroglyps and the tomb and everything...

After several episodes which i felt the quality had been noticeably lower, an episode that really blew my socks off. Tesla returns and is revamped. First 15 minutes of it were highlight for me with Tesla and Helen banter of the highest order. I like the slightly reckless Helen who doesn't give a seconds thought to revamping Tesla if it means saving him.

The B arc was ok but i admit half thought is it really necessary.

Queen might be dead but what about her court. They were all protected by a wall and that rock hard amber substance.

-Was it really believeable that the Queen's crystal structure was weakened enough by a shot a few millimitres into it that would've enabled Helen to smash it with a rock?

It might possibly be explained simply by it's age. She was only supposed to be in there for a 1000 years or so but was in it for a lot longer. Once it's structural integrity was breached it may simply have weakend to the ravages of time.

Was Biggie getting therapy from Will? It certainly looked like it when Kate stormed in to his office and I loved his hand gesture "Hey I' here" kind of thing.

I'm glad that they appear to have killed that batch of Vamps at least. I think that if they had escaped it would have really changed the tone of the programme. Lets face it, it would have taken a heck of a lot to stop them, probably all out war, or at the leaset it would end up like V.

There's just something so cool and special about watching Helen and Tesla on screen together...not in a ship way though...well maybe...but I prefer John & Helen. :P
Was nice to have 2 distinct stories in the one ep...loved it. This is what Sanctuary is made of. Brilliant ep...makes me want more. :) There ya go...simple & to the point. Cheers. xo

First thought: Has there ever been a bad Tesla episode? Not in my book, so that set the bar high for me. And I had not been disapointed.
The Helen/Nikola interaction had been great, not only dialoge but also the facial expressions ("are you absolutely positive this will work?"- great look he shoots Helen). Amanda and Jonathon together are just amazing all the time.
The queen had been interesting and not as clichè as I expected.

I liked the B story about Kate. Her charakter grows so much this season. I really start to like her very much. But I have a small problem with her hair this season. Is that a new trend that I am just missing or is it simply bad styling?

Oh thanks for the explanation, I guess that does make more sense, seeing as she was what... 5,000 years overdue being woken up?

To answer your second point, I can see how you interpreted it as such but I kind of doubt it. Will is (supposedly) a Forensic Psychiatrist so really counselling isn't necessarily his forte (his area of expertise should be medications, prisoners, assessment, etc). Also, because the way Biggie was lying down on the couch with Will almost behind him implies Psychoanalytic therapy (y'all should have heard of Freud?), which while not that popular these days (it's mainly used as last resort for people who have tried everything or people in severe "psychological pain"), I also doubt that a Forensic Psychiatrist would be trained in it...

I could be wrong, but I think it's more likely the writer/director has gotten mixed up with what Will should know or be doing (or what is realistic for him to know and practice).

like the episode where tesla was traped in cave will say's he always have hiden agenda and helen says thats what makes him so interesting

the bomb was designed to kill vamp so that we can be sure vamp are dead
but well in sanctuary we never know cause helen team was killed in haloearth to and revived so writers can bring them back in some way to make interesting story

Nope... I will not be surprised in the least if she shows up again... She a full vampire, and after seeing what Tesla has gotten himself out of, I would not be surprised if she survived that explosion.

(Ewww!)

there was a bit of cheesiness about the vampire queen :p, but also a lot of fun, and i'd LOVE to see this storyline continued!

i wonder if the queen bit helen? i mean, what happened after helen said about choking on it/her blood? we never saw how that scene really ended...

Tesla isnt a bad guy he just goes about it the wrong way. What he wants his knowledge. I think ultimatly he wants peace. Like what he says about learning from the blood.
But he's so caught up on the inteligence that vamps have that he forgets that for them humans are nothing but food. And they wouldnt just bring the knowledge but also the wars.
So when the vamp Queen turns into "I'm going to rule" he sees what a bad idea it is.
I think that even if she hadnt discarted him he wouldnt accept it.

Re - the bolded: I completly agree with you. Though, I think, at some, they will have do it. I was only glad it wasn't right now, I'm not in the mood for an all out war just now. But I look forward to it (because I think not all the vamps are dead, of course!). ;D

I tend to agree with Kes. :) That and you know, Tesla maybe was used to being at the top of the vampires (he was the only one ;P), and the Queen just tossed him aside. He probably wanted a little revenge and didn't that much about her being blow up since he had his powers back.

I understood it as Nikola wanting to recreate the vampires - if he was in charge of them and could control them at some point. That's why he got upset back in "Sleepers", after his newly vamped kids took over things. It's also why he had created the 'devamper' as a fail safe. The "nobody hijacks Nikola Tesla" line was testament to that.

In this one, I think that if Afina would have let Nikola be by his side as an equal in ruling their newly risen race and having authority over them all, instead of pushing him aside like a mere minion, Helen would have had a very hard time in convincing him that all of it was wrong and they needed to kill them all. Would Helen have been able to outwit two unwilling vampires in that situation?

So I liked that one. Finally a good one after 3 terrible ones. Both the main and the side stories were interesting. I like stuff about Kate's past and I like Tesla stories even more.
Finally Tesla is a vamp again.
I had 2 problems with this episode.
1- I expected what would happen since the beginning.
2- Where on earth is Henry?????

I'm 100% sure that the queen is not dead. Same goes to the other vampires in stasis and I think she found a way to Praxis. She will be the new enemy and the Praxians will not be able to fight them, but Helen will save the Praxians. Tesla might change sides. Of course that's just what I think. No one really knows.

Finally got around to watching this episode and I agree with most of you here, it was very enjoyable. Helen and Tesla are always fun together and AT and JY do a great job of portraying these two people who are long-time friends but also have such different personalities and goals. The revamped Tesla is also fun, though it's interesting that it seems he didn't get back his ability to manipulate electricity, he still just has the magnetism.

The vampire queen felt a bit over the top to me at times so I'm glad that she appears to have died at the end of this ep. The rest of court could have survived (Tesla said something about the rock wall being as strong as diamond), so they can revisit the vampire storyline later if they want but it won't dominate the show.

I also liked the Kate B story, though maybe it would have been better served to shore up some of the weaker episodes like Wingman or One Night since it seemed rather unnecessary in this ep. Though I did enjoy the serious Will and his conversation with Kate, which wouldn't have been possible in the other eps. This could also set up a potential bonding moment between Helen and Kate, since Helen definitely knows what it's like to have her past come back to haunt her.

Anxiously awaiting this ep.

Who wrote/directed this one?

Written by Gillian Horvath and directed by Lee Wilson.

^what she said. :) I actually was nervous for Helen. favorite line: "...while using me as your personal canteen." Very Magnus.

I'm so glad the vampire queen got dealt with in one episode and not a long continuing story.

That was a great line, along with 'I hope you choke on it.' I did find it a bit odd that Afina didn't feed on Helen at least once after threatening her so often.

I agree, I think Tesla's main goal as been to resurrect his race in his image or under his control and bring back the golden age of the vampires. I'm sure to him he's doing the 'right' thing because it would foster all the technological advancements and the 'peace' his race was responsible for. Though it would also mean the enslavement of mankind, something Tesla doesn't seem to have a problem with but Helen objects to, and rightly so IMO.

Tesla seemed quite besotted with Afina until she turned against him, I think as long as she seem to promise him equality he would have gone along with her plan to resurrect her court and bring back the golden age of the vampires. He'd probably try to make sure Helen was treated well because of his history with her, but I doubt he'd extend the same consideration to other humans.

While I enjoyed this ep I simply cannot wait for Normandy next week, even just the preview looks amazing. :)

We could have asked the same thing about Tesla since Hollow Men ;) (though someone asked the question for Tapping Tuesday I think and got an explanation but it was never said on the show). Maybe Henry needed some time off after things didn't go his way with Erica?? I'm sure he'll be back very soon. :)

Regarding your spoiler, I don't think Tesla would do that. Remember what he says to Helen at the end? Besides the queen considered him unworthy, a mongrel, so I bet any others in Afina's court would too. They wouldn't want him.

Woohoo! Finally got to watch this ep! :D

Here are my first thoughts... I just watched it, so I haven't had a chance to read this thread yet. I'll be doing that tomorrow. For now, my first impressions:

What a fun episode! AT and JY have such a brilliant dynamic together; they just spark off each other marvelously. You can always count on a Tesla-episode to have over-the-top bad guys, dire peril, and charged banter all blended into a perfectly entertaining combination.

The vampire queen, Afina - I wasn't really that taken by her. I'm not sure what it was, but the air of grandiosity and the haughty disposition just felt forced in a way that they never are from JY. To be fair, JY is brilliant - he brings such an easy elegance to his role. That's got to be difficult to match! Still, Afina felt a little too 'hammed up' for me.

The plot and backstory were interesting, though. I hope we get to learn more about the Praxis-Vampire age and their conflict. I'm also curious to know how they might have influenced the ancient human civilizations.

The B-story - this really felt thrown in. I can appreciate the need for a B-story, but I prefer it when, at least thematically, it relates/connects with the A-story. I was, however, glad to see some character development in Kate. The initial scene (in this plot-line, at least) was lovely - it's always nice to see commonplace moments in such a fantastical world. And I enjoy how intuitive the Big Guy is; he really is a soft touch, isn't he. But the story itself felt rushed. It's times like this that I wish the writers wouldn't worry so much about connecting the dots. To me, what was important and interesting about the B-plot was Kate's inner conflict. We didn't really need to see the raid; I would have rather seen more of Kate dealing with her demons. But I realize that there's always the fear that an episode will just turn into "a bunch of talking heads". It's definitely a tough balance to strike.

I do have some minor quibbles - about out-running that massive explosion for instance - but really, that's not so much what the ep was about, and as a result, they don't really bother me so much. The best part about this episode was the fact that we got to see Helen and Tesla working together/squaring off (because they never do one without the other). You really sense the long history these two have when you watch them interact, and I have no doubt that comes from the wonderful dynamic and easy chemistry between these two very talented actors.

(Good grief! Sorry, that got a bit ramble-y)

P.S. One last thought that I forgot to include - it was fun seeing Tesla almost groveling when he first meets Afina. Mr. Hoity-Toity was verging on obsequious! Well played by JY!

It has been hard for me (with the two date night episodes) to have been critical of Sanctuary over the last few weeks. I love this show and I love the people who make this show. I have no idea if TPTB read this or any other forum but no one likes to see their work criticized and it is not generally my nature to be negative. Yet, this is the reality of the entertainment industry. Also, I would hope knowing whether fans like/dislike a particular character or theme will be taken into consideration in future planning.

So it was with great joy that I say how much I loved this latest episode. This is the Sanctuary we all know and love. The clever, funny script, the fabulous characters, the quirky family that is Sanctuary.

I'll start with the B story. I understand the need for B stories in this business. We have certainly seen it with Stargate and Sanctuary in the past. I liked the B story. Firstly, it had to do with the Sanctuary regulars (although I did miss Henry). I like that Kate's past still comes up. In some ways I felt her transformation to Sanctuary good-guy was a little too quick in season 2. In addition, we got back the Will of old. Enjoyed his discussion with Kate.

As for the A story, what can I say that hasn't already been said? It was fabulous! I, like most of you, love Tesla. But it is not just Tesla. While his interactions with the other characters are also good it is the Helen-Tesla interaction that I enjoy the most. AT and JY are so wonderful together, I would love to see them do a comedy together someday. Such great banter. Kudos to the writing and the performances.

My favourite lines were the simple "Hi" "Hi" after Tesla returned to help Helen. Perfectly said. Something as simple as that I just loved.

Loved Helen's concern for Tesla and that he kept up his annoying comments to the (near) end.

I thought the chatter between them was so great once the Vampire Queen appeared.

Great moments between the Queen and Helen as well.

Lots of LOL moments for me in this ep, in particular the scene of Tesla sliding down the wall of the pit after his second attempt to jump out.

For the first time in a couple of weeks, I re-watched the episode right away.

Well done Sanctuary team!

One of the things I liked about this episode and the show generally, is they have been very successful at handling Tesla. He's used sparingly enough that he's always a treat to see.
And they've kept him consistently himself, if that makes sense.
Also he's a great way for us to see certain aspects of Magnus.

Also he's a great way for us to see certain aspects of Magnus.
That's what I love most about stories involving members of the Five vs stories with the "young 'uns".

In the stories that involve Tesla, John, Watson, Adam Worth, or even Biggie or anyone that's from Magnus' past, we get to see Helen's "normal" self, where she gets to interact with her peers.

In the stories with the main Sanctuary gang (Henry, Will, Kate, Ashley, Declan, etc) we see Mother/Boss Magnus, where she's around subordinates who just don't have the worldly experience and seem very naive in comparison to their more aristocratic elders.

Most of what I'd planned to say about this ep has already been said - and more eloquently than I'd have written it :D So just to add my two cents really, LOVED this episode.

* when Tesla's dying and he starts rambling - thinking back to (when he met?) Helen when they were younger, about how she wasn't wearing black and just the impression he has always been so in awe of her - something that has continued through their relationship over the years - just really loved that little insight into the past and how despite his arrogance I think he really does hold Helen in high esteem and with a lot of respect - and also, you know, it was just cute that his dying rambling should be about a moment he shared with her ;)

* I like that Tesla's kept his magnetic abilities - although I do hope that he's learnt something from his time being devamped (as well as from Afina) - and that he doesn't charge back into 'world domination desires' - I do like his recklessness but he'll perhaps think things through a little more clearly now he's revamped?

Thoroughly enjoy Helen/Nikola centred episodes :D

Loved this episode! Sanctuary is back, thank the gods.

And srsly? Gillian Horvath is now my favorite Sanctuary writer. She's awesome.

Loved the chemistry between Magnus & Tesla. So fabulous and super-fun. It really brought a huge smile to my face. I even loved the vampire queen. (Was it just me, or did she appear to be looking at Magnus as more than just a meal?) <snip>

Oh, she was definitely looking at Helen as more than a meal. She was sizing her up for entertainment, too. I love that at one point she's almost offended that Helen wouldn't see joining her court as an honor. Tesla was too easy (and a mongrel), but Helen was hard to get - and the more she told Afina exactly how she felt, the more the vampire seemed determined to have her for herself.

I'm with Steff, will someone (midwifey? :D) please write us a ficlet. That moment should not pass without a little illumination.

I might consider it in the future, but given the number of Awakenings tags that have cluttered up my LJ f-list in the past week, I wouldn't even think of attempting it until after the season is over. ;)

Now *that's* what I'm talking about! This ep simply rocked! Nice backstory stuff for Kate, great rapport with Helen and Nicolas, twists and turns, danger and intrigue. This is what Sanctuary is all about. :)

1. Hey Nicolai, long time no see mate!

2. Vampire Queen, wasn't expecting her to ditch Nicolai, a loyal mongrel is better than zippo surely.

3. Afina, outsmarted, outclassed, bye bye.

4. Solid enough B plot though surely you'd have thought the abnormal underworld would know by now that Kate's with the Sancturary.

In my opinion this is the best episode third season. Of course I can not be objective, but... Jonathon totally rocked! )))))

Is it my ears playing tricks on me, or in the scene when Helen rams the metal pole into Afina's shoulder, when Afina smacks Helen away is there a sound effect that sort of sounds like the word "ka-pow" is part of it?

After the latest S4 episode I decided I needed a rerun of Helen-Tesla goodness that is this episode. Love their exchange--"I'm not engaging in this childish conversation." "The more you protest the truer it is." "Great scientific method." etc. Gotta love these two.

And beyond the fun banter we saw that they both really care about each other as dear friends.

This was an excellent episode!

Yeah I'm a bit late, but I only just watched the last five eps of the season cos I was saving the DVDs until I visited some friends interstate so we could watch them for the first time together, and we only got up to ep 15 last year.

I don't think there's anything Tesla has done that I haven't loved :D
