    Wraith Outpost?

Just thought about this earlier.... If the Wraith were smart, they would have brought a few canisters of "Grow a Hive" and one or two "Grow an Outpost" and stopped short of earth to make an outpost.

A wraith beachhead in the Milky-way. The SGC was worried about Earth. Would they know if the wraith had made a small beachhead on the way? Remember, the hive was "faster" than they thought.

    Any ideas?

They want to get to Earth and start culling. Wasting time on the development of Hives or bases would have just slowed them down and made them more vulnerable to a co-ordinated attack. Then you'd have to start crewing new Hive ships and any bases they create which means sharing the location of Earth and that would be giving up a lot of power within the Wraith as people will be more willing to follow the person who knows where Earth is, rather than just spreading it

Establishing a beachhead would have been a smart move. Another smart move would have been to finish off the Daedalus before jumping to hyperspace. Another one would have been to not revive Ronon. Another one would have been to begin culling the minute that Area 51 was destroyed.

Unfortunately for the Wraith, it seems that the only Wraith who can formulate a competent strategy are Todd and Michael.

Then how in the hell did they beat the ancients? Just launching sheer numbers at them?

        I mean, really?

It's simple... the Wraith did not anticipate Atlantis wormholing from the galactic void between Pegasus and Milky Way. The Wraith also didn't anticipate Sheppard flying a nuke into the ship, but... you'd think they'd have at least learned that trick by now.

The Wraiths biggest weakness is that they have never been smart enought to shut the back door to stop pests from just wandering in.

any static wraith settlement in the milky way would be pounded to smithereens by a 304 or jaffa/lucian/tok'ra ha'taks once it's detected.
growing a base or an outpost would take time, the hive was only able to grow so quickly from keller because it tapped into atlantis' zpm. without such a power source a single hive would probably take over a year to grow.
