I thought he just wanted to understand what was going on and get his head around the situation, not over alalysing. Makes sense to me - his consciousness has been uploaded into the ship and that's a pretty big deal. He did seem to be enjoying every aspect of it too (when he thought he could leave...) and that was cool.
