The Ori and their "promise" of ascension

How could the Ori make their followers think they were ascending, since those in the Milky Way galaxy know what ascension looks like and that their bodies turn into energy, but the other followers see a follower die, but they don't see them ascend... how can they still believe the Ori?

What do you mean by "those in the Milky Way"? Sure SG1, Hammond, Bratac and a few SG personnel have seen ascended beings in action but the overwhelming majority of the Milky Way residents are either Jaffa or former Goa'uld slaves. Most of them have probably never heard of ascension until the prior (who can heal the sick and move tings with his mind ) shows up and tells them about it.

For the same reason people believe in any faith.

Many of them had heard of the Ancients and ascension. They should have somewhat known at least that ascension = turning your body into energy and living in a higher plane of existence.

A lot of the people who knew about the Ancients also worshiped them as some form of deities, though.

Hearing stories about how the Ancients "ascended to the plains of Kheb" does not equate to having knowledge of what ascension is.

The very fact that people believed that the Ori would ascend them when the die shows that they viewed ascension as some sort of afterlife which is completely wrong.

the ancients never "ascended to the plains of kheb" nor said anything along those lines. and as far as we know there was very little mention of ascension in the milky way until recently.

The Jaffa had legends about ascension and they refered to it as the "plains of Kheb". That misinterpretation of what ascension is, was my point, that unlike the OP suggests, Milky Way cultures did not know much about ascension.

Ktano:But for each of you who dies in the name of freedom, your souls shall be sent to Kheb, the place of freedom everlasting.
Bra'tac:When they could no longer carry a primta, they would make their journey to Kheb. There their calak would learn the path through the darkness into the next life.
Ascension was NEVER mentioned, Kheb was merely an afterlife place and the "plains of Kheb" were never mentioned.

The reference Bra'tac makes to Jaffa finding there way through the darkness into the next life is in the episode on Ascension iirc...the point D Toccs is trying to make is that in this case he is referring to ascension, without calling it by name, hence their misunderstanding of what ascension is. Its clear from this episode the Jaffa who went to Kheb learned how to ascend from Oma but Jaffa such as Bra'tac did not know what the process was exactly, just viewing it as a form of afterlife.

Exactly! These people weren't really concerned with the science behind what was really going on.
