How could the Ori make their followers think they were ascending, since those in the Milky Way galaxy know what ascension looks like and that their bodies turn into energy, but the other followers see a follower die, but they don't see them ascend... how can they still believe the Ori?

Sure SG1, Hammond, Bratac and a few SG personnel have seen ascended beings in action but the overwhelming majority of the Milky Way residents are either Jaffa or former Goa'uld slaves. Most of them have probably never heard of ascension until the prior (who can heal the sick and move tings with his mind ) shows up and tells them about it.

The very fact that people believed that the Ori would ascend them when the die shows that they viewed ascension as some sort of afterlife which is completely wrong.
