Stones and gate travel.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, I did a search but couldn't find anything.

When the LA come through the gate, Telford says 'Gate travel must've severed the link'. In SGA episode 'Identity', when the team goto rescue Keller they use the gate and the connection between Keller and Neeva isn't effected.

Has this been explained or is it a result of shoddy writing?

It hasn't been explained, but in SGU there was a special occasion of extra-long distance and 9 chevron address.

Agreed. IMO the proximity of Needa/keller is what kept them linked.

Also, in Identity the two women are linked with the stones minus Earth's interface box. That box could be the weak link in the system that led to momentary disconnects while exiting FTL and during gate travel.

Or the Destiny interface box. From what I understand it's Earth tech, bound to be less advanced than the urn-like things used in SG-1.
