TV Ratings Friday: 'Fringe' Premieres Up, 'Kitchen Nightmares' Starts Well

Fringe’s Friday premiere 1.9 adults 18-49 rating was a fraction above its Fall 18-49 average rating (1.88) and 12% above its latest new episode (1.7 adults 18-49, 12/9/10). That’s much better than most of our polled readers expected. If it can maintain that level, I’d expect it to be renewed. That wasn’t the only good ratings news for Fox as the season premiere of Kitchen Nightmares also scored a 1.9 adults 18-49 rating and Fox topped all broadcast networks among adults 18-49.

Keep in mind that Fringe only had good ratings because of no Supernatural so its audience was not split between the two. I say wait until next week to see how this does when Supernatural returns

It's true that it will be interesting to see what it does when both CSI NY and Supernatural are new, but still. This was a great start, and better than a lot of people expected I think. I'm hoping the show can hold on to these ratings or close to them.

For the most part, in the Renew/Cancel Index Bill is not prognosticating about what will happen in May, but rather what would happen by May if the season ended now. You can count on Fringe being listed as “likely to be renewed” in the Fox Renew/Cancel index, so long as Fringe is maintaining 70% of Fox’s average in adults 18-49 for scripted originals.
