Season Six, obviously, when Jonas was added to the mix, I actually think was really interesting. I liked Season Six quite a lot. I think they did a lot of really cool and interesting things in Season Six.

That seals it. I love this guy. :D

Great interview, David. Nice to see someone who isn't afraid to talk back at you about your lines of questioning. :P And again, he seems like a really fun guy. I also love that he makes it clear that Stargate is NOT Farscape. Now if only some of the fans would figure that out... :P

Hmm... maybe I'll just add that quote about season six to my sig. Have I mentioned how much I love this guy? ;)

Yeah, what a great interview. Thanks. It definately sounds like Browder's going to be a nice addition to SG-1... Claudia Black as well. :)

Great interview. And, if Shadow approves of the guy (as do I), you know that he's gonna do a great job.

Ben has my blessing. Those aren't easy to get. :D

I'm a save-the-best-for-last kind of guy. First thing I asked him was "How much time can we have with you?"

He replied, "I don't think it's how much time you can have with me, it's more like how much time I can have with you!" which really sealed the deal that it was one of the best decisions TPTB could've made by adding him to the blender.

Great job David! I already love Ben Browder but apparently I can love him more. And I am very glad that he was clear in pointing out that this is Stargate and NOT Farscape. He seems very conscious of having to make a seperation between the two shows but while still showing his love and repect for what a wonderful show Farscape is.

Apparently I can cross over from loving him to worshipping the ground he walks on. :p

Seriously, I've always been impressed with Ben in every interview I've read and this was certainly no exception. Nice long meaty interview with a guy who has his head on straight. Farscape = scifi crack. I love it.

I was so excited the day I heard Ben was joining Stargate. Then I started having reservations about how they were going to write his character. How the dynamics were going to work. Well now I'm back to pure excitement again and am unashamedly looking forward to S9!

Thanks David - very nice job. :D

I'm looking forward to flashbacks to the (lost city )battle over Antarctica, perhaps seeing him in the cockpit, guiding the others, and eventually crashing)

Being the cynical sort, I can picture the producers running madly around Vancouver, trying to prevent Ben from seeing Season 8. "If he sees this, he'll back out of the deal!" ;) I know that's not why he's having trouble finding eps, but it amuses the heck out of me to picture that. Although technically, they should have tried to prevent him from watching Season 7, too. :P

Sorry. But I can only resist the snark for so long and that interview has put me in SUCH a good mood... well, good mixed with a large amount of pity for what Ben's about to step in....

I suppose he's been too busy to catch the Sci-Fi schedule. Besides, he probably wants to watch them in a way that will be most beneficial to him (i.e. w/o commercials, etc).

Great interview David :) . I read the interview before I had to go to work last night. It seem like Ben is real anxious to get to work with the people of Stargate.

David
January 16th, 2005, 04:44 AM
I think he's going through Vigo Syndrome right now. Vigo played Aragorn largely because of his son, except in this case Ben's also a fan of Stargate. So I imagine his son is giving his own personal thumb up on the sidelines for his Dad, too.

Viggo also walked through the streets of New Zealand wielding his sword... think Ben will be moseying down the sidewalk in Vancouver branishing his P90? :P

I can't wait to see the flashbacks, since my number 1 favourite shot ever in Stargate is the squadron of 302s coming at the camera :D

Great interview! I wish we had more background though-this drip feeding of info is killing me! :D Also LOL at him being able to visit another one of his leading ladies- Tricia Helfer because the BSG set is opposite Stargate's. Also mmmmmmmmm on the M&M's.... :D The man who melts in your mouth not your hand.. Oh my! Ben you are going to so regret saying that! LOL

Hee! I'd already pegged him as a peanut M&M. I was right for once. :p

Interesting that his whole family is moving to Vancouver - I thought they might stay in California for the seven months and he'd just do the RDA thing and commute back to CA on the weekends. But guess his family is up to the challenge - they've gone from the US to Australia, back to the US and now to Canada. Sounds like a great bunch.

I blamed (credited) MC as the mod who asked about the leather pants. IMO never wrong to ask about wearing leather, btw. ;)

He also supposedly slept with his horse, Uraeus (Brego in the films). But I doubt he'll be sharing sheets with Heimdall.

Back on track ...

Oh, David.... you should know better than to say things like that. I can see the legions of MM/Heimdall shippers sparking to life right now. ;)

I think it makes sense to move his family to Vancouver. Bit of a long commute from Australia and even if SG-1 only lasts one more season there are so many other great shows (particularly genre ones) that are filmed there.

Must be kind of frustrating for him to try and do interviews about playing a character he knows nothing about. He's done a great job with his answers, though. And yay for him quashing the "Stargate killed Farscape" nastiness too.

I'm not sure that bit in David's introduction is quite right. As far as I know Ben and his family are living in California- they wouldn't be commuting from Australia.

They all had to move back to the US after Ben finished shooting the 4th season of Farscape. I remember because Ben did a chat on scifi from his new house in California. He had to leave for a few minutes because a new appliance was being delivered. :)

He went back to Australia to film the miniseries for a couple of months but the family didn't move back to Australia for that.

Well, the commuting thing was a bit of sarcasm, but if the family's still in California, at least getting back and forth will be relatively easy.

But I'm guessing conversation should stick to Ben, not his family and living arrangements. :) Or at least, veer away from the intimate details and rude demands on Ben that certain people can't seem to resist regarding another actor... :P

David
January 16th, 2005, 06:20 AM
And yay for him quashing the "Stargate killed Farscape" nastiness too.
Yeah since I knew I had him for a half hour I just had to address that issue. It's something I only got knee-deep into when fans were tossing the question around but I felt it was important to bring that nasty little boggart into the light. I just felt that it's important to make that connection so that Farscape fans who still feel anal toward Stargate got the star's opinion. We've seen the same thing before. Jack's first opinion of Jonas largely shaped how many fans perceived the character from then forward (and many of us are still seeing healing wounds, but we won't go there). If fans know that Ben Browder believes Stargate was not directly responsible for Farscape's cancellation then they'll be more at ease. I certainly am.

To clarify, he phoned me from California. But a lot of folks phone out of California who are there on business. Who knows.

If fans know that Ben Browder believes Stargate was not directly responsible for Farscape's cancellation then they'll be more at ease. I certainly am.
Well, I don't see how anyone could rationally have thought that, anyway (not that fandom is ever rational), but I'm glad to have Ben say it so that those who DO think such things can at least be given pause... while they think up theories of brainwashing and "Well, of COURSE he's gonna say that, he's on the cursed show now!" ;) Heh. Sorry. Guess I've been in fandom too long when I can come up with stuff like that.

Anyway. It's been quashed. Good on Ben for not balking at addressing some of the stickier issues.

Actually, I think it was a 1300-hour marathon of Stargate!

Great interview. Ben is as always charming and smart. I've read so many good things about him from when he was on Farscape and other productions that I know he'll work really hard to make great stories. I like how he's so focused on stories and making good Stargate episodes.

One thing that puzzled me. I wonder why he hasn't been asked to do any cons yet. I know he was a huge draw for the FS cons. You'd think Creation would be anxious to get him for the Stargate cons, too. (Unless they've already spent their budget for all the stars or something, I guess.)

You see, this guy is a professional. He goes out and watches 130 hours straight of Stargate just so he knows the story, and can better approach his character with a sense of history. He's bringing his A-Game. We're damned lucky to have Ben on this program.

As you can see I like Heimdall but I don't think he/she would want to have a relationship with MM. Now Thor might be a different matter.

We would have to get to know Heimdall better. I have only seen him/her in the one episode. If I had missed any other times, let me know so I can watch.

I'm a rabid Farscape fan but new to SG1 and this board, coming on deck after Claudia and Ben's involvement in SG1 was announced.

This was another great Ben Browder interview. The man is a true professional and seems like a really nice, down to earth guy and he always seems to put other people first, be it his co-stars, interviewers or his fans.

Hopefully anyone on the fence about him as an actor and an addition to SG1 will feel a little better. He doesn't want Farscape redux and, frankly, I doubt most FS fans do either.

Thank you for the wonderful interview. It made me laugh, as most BB interviews do. I hope SG1 fans

Lovely interview, David... hopefully it'll put to rest some misgivings that some may have had as to why TPTB REALLY hired BB to be in Season Nine. I'm really glad that you did this interview... some posters were vehemently anti-Farscape and doubtful about BB's casting.

I am especially impressed his whole attitude about coming into the show... wanting to fit in with mythos and "servicing the show". I found that reassuring... not that I really needed reassuring...

I can see why he's such a popular guy... ;)

Just read the interview some good job David you asked some great questions and good answers from BB.

David
January 17th, 2005, 06:46 AM
Many of the questions belong to the other moderators, and Darren as well. I only came up with a handful, like the question about whether or not Stargate was responsible for the fall of FS. The mods had about a week to dish out good questions, but poor Darren, I called him on my way home from college, (where I received Ben's initial call) and made him dish out about ten questions in ten minutes. Here I am walking through hallways that will, Tuesday, become my classrooms, and everyone within a block hears me excitedly yell "Ben!!"

The only one laughing was him on the other end.

Not the best way to start off with the professors. I figure I'll be forever branded as Ben-Boy.

Great interview.

I was sold on this guy from the start and I haven't watched an episode of Farscape in my life. His look is just perfect for SG1 and by this interview it turns out he's a nice guy.

His head shaving comments were funny.

I actually didn't think of it that way. I suppose you could look at it like that but that was not my intention. Stargate and Farscape were paired for so long in so many different mediums (heck, even on postcards) that Darren and I thought, out of a pool of really poopy titles, that "Crossing Over" fit the bill.

Darren
January 25th, 2005, 10:54 AM
I figured it would elicit thoughts of John Edwards in some minds, but that was not a deliberate goal. The title refers to crossing over from one genre show to another.

David
