Hey :D I'm after a new program to watch and thought I'd stop by here and ask a question :D

Could any of you nice, kind people here on this thread explain to me what Eureka is all about? I've only seen short clips and to be honest found them a little confusing :S

I'm just wondering what it's like.... Funny? Serious? Arc based or single episodes.. etc (you get the idea :) )

EUReKA is one of my favorite shows!! Light hearted popcorn kind of scifi. Imagine if you had a city of the world's smartest people and let them loose on science. Plop in one completely ordinary sherriff who has to solve all of their problems when the science goes too far. Hilarity happens. More episodic than arc stories. There are some arcs, but nothing you have to know about.

Give it a go. Good starting places are (obviously) S1, S3, and S4. Season 2 kinda builds on stuff from S1.

(A Town Called) Eureka is pretty enjoyable, though I don't think many fans would be offended if I said it wasn't the most original or creative science fiction series. Despite, or probably because of this, it is fun. It's pretty light in general, the science is generally atrocious, the series is quite funny, and fairly forgettable (in a nice way). No arcs as such (for most of the run, anyway), pretty predictable, but sometimes that just makes it even more enjoyable.

The basic premise is that since 1945, there's been a semi-secret town in the Pacific Northwest populated almost exclusively by scientific geniuses who have a massive underground laboratory complex and advanced experimental technology decades ahead of the rest of the world at their disposal. The focus is on the newly arrived, constantly confused everyman (and absolute non-scientist) Sheriff Carter who has to clean up or be subjected to the various disasters, messes, catastrophes that the townsfolk create. It's got a nice sense of humour, it's sort of a science fiction comedy-drama.

Lately it's got a little darker and more serious than usual I think, but not so much that its changed drastically. Worth checking out if you're looking for new TV sci-fi, but don't expect the next Galactica or SGU.

Definitely worth watching. Makes me smile every week, has pretty inventive ways for things to go wrong every week! Wonderful lovable characters, what more could a person want if you just need some time out! :)

I just bought season one myself and am giving it a look too. I've seen the first three episodes, and like a brother said above me, it's no Galactica or SG1, but it ain't bad. (I needed a replacement to fill my LOST void.)

I would say the first three seasons most definitely :D But not so sure about season 4, I don't really know what to make of it. I want my old Eureka back :(

Really?? I quite enjoyed the first half. Certainly a different style to the other seasons, but enjoyable anyway. Maybe you'll enjoy the rest of the season (when it chooses to appear :D )

Bought Season 1 and I am currently on the Season Finale.. Season 2 is currently on the way.

Can't give enough thanks to the Christmas Special, as that's what made me interested in this series.

Loving Fargo, Jack, and Henry. :D

So glad you are enjoying it - was definately worth watching for me :D Jack, Fargo and Henry are brilliant - I even managed to really like Stark as well by the end of season 3!!!

I've even ordered the first 2 seasons on DVD even though I've already seen them - purely so I can see how many people I can get to watch it :D

Did you watch three seasons in one to two months? You started at the end of October, and now you are finished!!!!

I didn't actually start watching until 26th November (I doing a Farscape Rewatch before I started this) so it only took me about 2 weeks to get as far as 4-10 - I really have nothing better to do :D and it's easy when you watch 5/6 episodes a night ;)

There are only about 45 episodes. Doesn't take long to watch.

53 if you go up to and including O Little Town., but you're right, they don't take too long to watch.

I watched season 1 + most of 2 then kind of lost track of the show as I moved house and didn't have access to a channel that showed it. Luckily I've moved again and can watch re-runs, although I've missed a chunk of S2 and most of S3.

It's a fun show, mostly episodic, although there are a few story arcs knocking around in the background.

It has been a little dark in places, but nowhere near as dark as SGU or BSG, it wouldn't have worked as well as it does if it had been.

My wife and I started watching the very first episode. It was kind of hit and miss the first season. Good, but the outstanding episodes were distributed throughout the season. We have since come to really enjoy the show and we look forward to the new season. I have to say that the season where they brought in all the product placement of their sponsor (degree antiperspirant) was a bit annoying. I found the fact that they kept mentioning the product to be a bit distracting. So glad they dropped that!
