Woo hoo, another hit episode here! :D Btw, the opening was normal here in Canada, don't know if it was shortened elsewhere.

It was fun, exciting and full of twists from start to finish. I loved how it started with Will and Biggie talking about food, then discover the... WW2 device. :) OMG, I loved Helen's reaction to it, and the history lesson behind it. :) Helen's talk with Will about Tesla was so funny, her facial expression and her "queen" joke was great, I remember thinking: "No, no, you're already our queen of Syfy." :p I thought it was cool seeing the team in their hiking outfits, I liked how how mins after finding Tesla, he commented on how Helen looked. :p I thought it was sweet to see Tesla thank Helen, and the smile she gave him, and I loved him and Henry going at it. :D It was a really good story revolving Tesla, and the creatures, that they were made up of the source blood. The secret lab was cool, and I liked the Ashley references, and how Tesla was considered of Helen's feelings before saying her name. I'm glad we got to see him use his new powers, and hearing how hard it is for him being normal, I think the audience can relate to that, for those who have lost something important in their lives. I did feel sorry for him when the team turned on him, and found out what he was up to, but Helen was right to stop the creatures. Since I knew he wasn't going to die, it kinda took the excitement away at the end, but I'm glad he was willing to sacrifice himself to save the others. :) Overall, great story with the team and Tesla. :) Btw, those stunners they used, those are from PN, aren't they?

As for Biggie. :D I liked his story, and I feel this is the first big story for him, and I'm glad Kate was able to be with him for this. OMG, I loved the Ghost Hunters/Fort Delaware reference, I wouldn't be surprised if that was Amanda's idea. :D I It was good to see some backstory on him, and how loyal he is to those outside of the Sanctuary. I was kinda hoping to see Helen and the Sanctuary in the 50's, but... meh. :p As soon as I saw that priest I knew something was off, and I hope we see more of him sometime in the future. :)

Overall, it was a great episode, and I'm excited for the remaining 16, and the remaining 7 Tesla episodes. :D I'll talk more in the replies. :)

Another great episode, this time we had two stories going on with this episode. Both stories were really good. It was good to hear mention of Ashley, really want to know more about that.

Oh and who is this Father Clark guy? Should be interesting.

I adored the episode. There is just too much to comment on! Loved the 'Maybe he want's me to be his queen' comment. The subtle looks and smiles were great. Kate was really there for Biggie, movie night, cuddling :) It was awesome!

Loved how Will asked Helen if Nikola had kept a larvae. The answer is obvious isn't it ;)

I'm loving the one-liner comments in all the eps. And none feel forced!

Hmmm. Makes you wonder what the fake priest is up to. I have a few ideas but won't say here .;)

Another solid show. :P Not so sure the Nikola story was the B story, but...

I can't think. Will review later.

I'm very interested to see what Father Clark is up but wasn't the hood a bit too Emperor Palpatine?

Tesla was fun but I agree with Will about him. He comes close to being more trouble than he is worth, IMHO.

I liked the Kate and Biggie bonding and I really want to see more of his back story.

Another really good episode. I adored the Bigfoot and Kate storyline, great interaction between the two and it was great to get some more backstory on the Big Guy. The Father Clark situation is also really interesting and a nice teaser to end the episode on. My theory is that he has something to do with the new Jekyll and Hyde character played by Ian Tracey, esp with the 'judged your soul not your appearance' line. Great mystery, I can't wait to see how it plays out.

The Tesla storyline was also fun, again great interactions and banter between the characters, esp Henry and Tesla. I especially enjoyed the callback to Ashley and the Cabal and the confrontation between Helen and Tesla about him going after the Source blood. I think it shows a change in Helen since last year, where before the scientist in Helen would have agreed with Tesla in trying to salvage some of the blood, after what happened to Ashley I think Helen is more than happy to destroy every last remnant of it.

Only real complaint is the shortened opening credits. Is this happening in other countries as well or is it just an annoying Syfy thing?

The season just keeps getting better and better. I loved both stories. It was great to see Tesla back doing what he always does, being a pain in the a$$ following his own agenda. The callback to what happened to Ashley was a nice touch, went with the story and wasn't a forced add on (brilliant performance by AT and JY there). The one-liners were as entertaining as ever.
The only person annoying me was Will and his stick in the mud performance. I mean come on, he's telling Helen what kind of person Tesla is? She's known the guy for a century and half, Will has met him what... two times and now he's an expert?

The second story was long overdue. Kate was a new character in S2 but still got two eps focused (or half focused) on her and her past, but we had to wait till S3 to find out something about Biggie that was more then a random line thrown in. It wasn't much, but it's a start. The last scene with Helen was amazing. Especially the contrast between the visual grandness of the cathedral and the intimacy of the scene.

Shallow note / Helen in jeans + thigh straps =HOT!

when kate walked in with that hat....lord that was cute. it was funny to see miss badass in a ski bib and silly hat.

I think will was such a stick in the mud simply because that's his job. He's there to question helen and make her think rather than just going along. (and someone had to be the antagonist to kick off all the reluctance.)

he also needed to address the elephant in the room, the fact that every time they've 'helped' tesla, he has had an ulterior motive. he's used them...and if they continued to just help him unquestioning we'd be saying how 'stupid' they are to keep falling for it.

as to father clark

my thought is that he's ex cabal and his goal is to take down/takecontrol of the sanctuary. he killed the other priest to gain access and trust with the sanctuary, he'll infiltrate and try to take them down...and then there will be biggie/others tension if biggie believes in Clark and the others are 'umm, really?'

Good episode. Tesla was a treat as usual. But I loved that they didn't just use him for "fun," they addressed the seriousness of the source blood & how it was used against Ashley.

Great moment from AT when addressing that. And then Tesla turns away and can't look at her. Part of him does feel bad for hurting Helen. And then Helen's reaction when they think Nicola is dead, was great too.

Henry getting sucked in by Tesla and sort of hero-worshipping despite himself was fun. And Will got to be the voice of reason.

It was kind of cute how he and Henry wore the headlamps but Magnus didn't. I had to think Magnus wouldn't think it looked dignified or something. ;)

I liked that we got more backstory on Big Guy. And yeah, I pegged the new "priest" as totally evil from minute one. ;) Great final moment with him and Helen--when she squeezed his arm... sniff.

Oh, and Big Guy and Kate discovering they both love watching that paranormal show was fun. I love how they made Big Guy finding out about his friend the priest come out of a great character moment. It felt natural as you watched.
They understand that character moments can "advance the story." I used to have issues with another show when they'd say character moments don't advance the story. :(

Incidentally, did I see that there was a new writer on this ep?

I'm peeved about cutting the opening music again.

and I'm skeptical about next week. Are they copying themselves already? :( But then Hero had some good moments despite the cheesiness, so they may pull it off again. They have a way of doing that...

It seems there are more than one plot/story developing and that is good. With 20 eps it gives room for multiple story arcs like SG-1 and SGA had. So should be interesting how they play out this season.

I enjoyed the overall performances from everyone, and and I thought the mention of Ashley was nice touch, and how Helen reacted to that. You could tell there was still some pain there. I liked how Will talked about Tesla to Helen at the start, and he is right, since his first appearance on the show, he's caused trouble for Helen at some degree, and had his own plans, so Will was right about this time. Yeah Helen knows who he is, but he's also her friend/colleague, so she knew she needed to answer the SOS call. But yeah, Tesla is awesome. :D

I'm happy we got a big Biggie story, and that Kate got to share this with him. It was also cool that he can tell one when is lying based on how scared they are, and the last scene with Helen and Biggie was very good, I think it showed just how close they are. The last scene when the bad priest walks off, and the credits come up, was a cool effect. :p

Shallow note / Helen in jeans + thigh straps =HOT!

I'm also a fan of blue jeans. :D

I like that when they bring him on, he doesn't *just* come on, he actually has a story, and it works really well for the episode. I thought it was a good moment when he was talking about "events" and didn't want to say Ashley's name, he didn't want to hurt Helen and I thought that was a noble moment. Yeah, her reaction when she thought Tesla was dead, and alive were great.

Henry getting sucked in by Tesla and sort of hero-worshipping despite himself was fun. And Will got to be the voice of reason.

It was kind of cute how he and Henry wore the headlamps but Magnus didn't. I had to think Magnus wouldn't think it looked dignified or something. ;)

We should have more scenes with Henry and Tesla because they are the "techno geniuses" on the show, so I would like to see them work together more often, and I would like it to be a "Sam and Mckay" kinda thing. :p

Helen doesn't need headlamps, she's got her boys to light up the caves. :p

I'm peeved about cutting the opening music again.

A soon as I saw that the credits were normal I wondered if they were normal or shortened elsewhere like last week.

I thought Hero was quite good, it broght some good humor to the episode, and I saw the promo for next week, and it looks to have some good action. ;)

Loved the ep. Both Biggie's story and Tesla were great. I love Telsa so much.
He has the best lines. Tesla and Henry ep would be awesome. They actors have great chemistry (sp). Despite the whole shady part of his personality Henry sees the genious he is.

A little off topic regarding the eps airing dates:
But I get the feeling that next week's ep was suppose to be today (they've said several times it was ep 4) and I think that will break the link between this ep and Animus.

I really enjoyed this episode, though I did feel it was a set-up/transitional ep, it had lots of great stuff.

+The Henry/Tesla geek banter had me cracking up
+Loved Loved LOVED them showing that Ashley is still a very raw wound for Magnus
+Biggie/Kate bonding continues. Soon, I bet, she'll be getting head smacks of her own. ;) (Though I hate it when tv makeup artists do silly things like put shimmery eye-shadow on someone who walks into a tv room with a towel on her head fresh from a shower :P)
+Nikola taking a bug-- total set up to more source blood antics
+Father Clark = IMO set up to new big bad. But we'll see.

I'll have to rewatch to remember some of the other things that tickled me. But definitely a keeper.

I loved this episode, Tesla is back and he had some great moments with Helen:D. I simply can't stop smiling about his flirting. I love Tesla.
Henry and Nikola together are really funny. I think Henry anmires/worships the guy, because he is a tech genius but on the other hand he hates his attitude. So their interaction is always great:D

The Ashley Moment was great. I am so glad they didn't simply forget her and Helens reaction showed that there are still deep feelings.

More big guy please!!! I enjoyed the story and I would like to know more about this time.

Of course, I'm not complaining about the false eyelash/eyelash extension epidemic that has made it on to what seems like every show on tv, including Sanctuary. Today. (But it does have me staring at the bazillion mascara choices in the drug store and Sephora and wondering which one will give me the closest thing, lol.)

It gets better every season, every episode. ;)

100 correct!

I'm very interested to see what Father Clark is up but wasn't the hood a bit too Emperor Palpatine?

haha, thanks, now i know finally why he looked hinda familiar XD

as to father clark

my thought is that he's ex cabal and his goal is to take down/takecontrol of the sanctuary. he killed the other priest to gain access and trust with the sanctuary, he'll infiltrate and try to take them down...and then there will be biggie/others tension if biggie believes in Clark and the others are 'umm, really?'

spooky.. I just was about to write almost exactly the same!!

As for the biggie storyline: It was really, really interesting and I love that Biggie and Kate work together. we see Biggie outside and we see them watching dvds together.. (with popcorn an towel XDD

As for the Tesla storyline: *sqeeee* absolutely great :D :D there were hilarious quotes, very awsome and sqeesome scenes ("Thank you" ;)) and a very interesing insight to Helen and Nikola's characters.
Nikola gets in trouble on his own and manages to drag the others in as always, but if I'm not wroong he hasn't mentioned world domination once.. he just wants to become his old and for him "real" self again.. he has yet to learn that there's more about him than only being a vampire..
and on Helens outburst (which was really infomative, too), that's what i wrote in msn:
I think she's overreacting.. but not only because she still hasn't got over Ashley (to be honest.. who gets ever really over the death of their kid?), but also, because she fears something similar would happen to Nikola..
I don't know just how close she was with James and Griffin, but i always see them as her (really good) friends. Apart from the fact that they're also dead, all three people that
correction:
two of the three people she really LOVED, her almost husband and her child where used by dark stuff connected with the blood and became her villains.. i think that's even harder to watch than to know they died kinda peacefully..
so i can see why she doesn't want to lose the last of her most beloved ones.. and certainly not because of the same thing like the others

All in all: I LOVED it.. and.. does that mean they take Nikola now with them to the Sanctuary?^^ :D

Another great ep!
The Tesla story was great, another one of those where it starts off in one place and ends up somewhere completely else. What looked like something that could have turned out as a regular bug hunt was in fact something much deeper, with the source blood as a trigger.

Tesla always being Tesla, checking Helen out despite he’s in mortal danger. :D

And as have been mentioned before the Ashley call back was very nice and gave depth to the story, the confrontation scene between AT and JY was fantastic. And I got the feeling Tesla was trying to keep the findings on the hard drive a secret not as much to not let anyone know what he actually was up to but more to protect Helen form the truth, knowing what kind of scar the source blood have left. It was obvious he was weary of even mentioning Ashley’s name in the first place. And when he turned away, not even being able to look at Helen I even got the feeling he was ashamed of what he done.

As always everything laced with humor that I love, got a different vibe from this episode though. More like they’re were throwing snarky sarcastic comments at each other. Will to Helen, Helen to Will, Tesla to Henry and vice versa. Which fits perfectly with the mood of the show with everybody being a bit irritated through out; Will and Henry for being dragged out on a ‘save Tesla’ mission, Helen for Tesla never being honest, Tesla because you know, he’s Tesla.

The Biggie story was nice, still unbelievably how CH can convey so much emotion through all that prosthetics. And Kate and Biggie play so well together so I was very happy to see another story line with just the two of them. Will be very interesting to see where this will go though, pretty sure we haven’t seen the last of that guy.

Have to admit though when I saw the hooded guy the first time I was sure it was Druitt (or Johnny as Tesla apparently calls him ;)) I had high hopeds for a Druitt/Big guy fight scene :D

And just a few small bits, and then I’m done…
I do miss the full length opening though, love the new music so it’s sad they have to cut it. (Though this way AT gets her name on display twice ;))

Loved the hint to Ghost Hunters and Fort Delaware where AT did her ghost hunting.
Couldn’t help but notice AT was wearing her F*Cancer bracelet throughout the entire episode. A very nice touch.

And yes Helen in blue jeans! Remember seeing on of the first s3 trailers with a lot of fast cuts, the thing that stuck in my mind was: Helen in blue jeans?! Seriously?! It just seemed so unHelen like. LOL! But yeah, they definitely suits her, with the high boots and thigh straps, it works just fine. :D

Absolutely loved this episode. have to say they had me for a second with Tesla sacrificing himself. I seriously thought he was dead and only thing that gave me pause was that there was still plenty off time left in the episode.

Like others i thought the hooded figure was going to be Druitt. It was an odd introduction if the priest is going to be a major villain as i thought it was very much the B story to Tesla time.

Loved Helen's quip about Nikola wanting her to come to be his queen.
Loved tesla's completely inappropriate timed flirtings.
Loved tesla baiting henry.

Really hope that we see plenty more of tesla this season. I'm half wondering if they are slowly going to arc him away from his world domination plans so he can be brought more within the fold as a regular guest star.

my review - (i had one going, but hit a wrong key... did everyone feel the eruption of my tickedness? :p)

i really enjoyed the ep! :D

first off, the guy that was accused to killing the priest... right away i knew i knew that guy, and then realized it was the mongol kid from 'emancipation' that kidnapped sam! i wouldn't have been able to recognize him if i hadn't seen that ep recently. :p

i'll say this right off the bat, and it won't be a surprise to anyone... i really wish this was the helen magnus show. :o :p

k, the rest of the review-

loved the ashley reference! and helen's reaction to this.

loved tesla feeling bad about the situation. he loves helen, and no matter how much he wants to return to vamp, he genuinely doesn't want to hurt or disappoint her.

fun bantering with everyone. :p (and wil was right about tesla :p)

how did tesla survive? did he pull the door or other metal around him to survive the explosion?

nice side story about biggie. he's not a fave character of mine, but i like what they're doing with him this season. loved the scene where the nice priest told biggie that there was a place, where all god's children were welcome... i just wish they could have showed biggie meeting helen for the first time. :p

i was not sure about that second priest, but as soon as he made the comment of thanking biggie for sharing his sadness (or burden?) with him, i started suspicioning him.

cute moment/reference to the ghost hunters type show and ep that biggie and kate were watching. total reference to amanda's time on the show. :p

were the bugs attracted to helen and tesla b/c they sensed the same type of blood in them that was in themselves? but why? like a child to parent thing? and when they cocooned tesla, where they going to feed off him?

~thinks~

i'll go read other posts now, before saying more. :p

I guess I'll have to be different. I'm not in love with it like everyone else. It was not overly bad but it was good either. It was just meh. I found the Tesla slow going and uneventful for a while. It seemed like to have little point. Even when they were locked in a Cabal bunker and got more interesting as they explored the reasons Tesla was down here something was still off. I can't put my finger on it. Don't get me wrong, the discovery of what happened to the source blood was interesting but something just didn't click which is sad because Tesla episodes are usually good.

Speaking of the Cabal since they were referenced, am I the only one who finds their demise a tad unrealastic. A shadow organization older then the Sanctuary network should be more resourceful then to crumble at the end failure of one mission.

The B plot makes up for a lot of things because I found it really interesting. I liked seeing the backstory of who the Big Guy was and where he came from. And how and why those two murders occured will be an interesting development for future episodes.

Nice episode...didn't give me the "wow" feeling I had last week but I did love the Biggie/Kate storyline and I did enjoy seeing Tesla again...I think Jonathon Young is just adorable....but I didn't like the convenience of how he survived the explosion...I mean I'm happy that he did but it was kinda too unreal how he did...did that make sense?
So just a little teeny snippet of Biggie's back story...cool. :) I wonder if we will ever find out who did shoot him back in 51.
Felt a little bored with the Father Clark story...he hasn't struck me as an interesting character to watch...yet. :P
I wonder what the bugs would have done to Helen had they caught her? They ran past Tesla after having already had him once....so do you think they wanted to encase her in their cocoon veins thingys like they had done with Tesla?? And then what? I know it was her blood they wanted but I just wonder what they would have done had they captured her.

Can't wait for next weeks ep. :)

I hope not. I love his overweening sense of importance. :P As much as I love seeing him, I'd rather him not be there too often. He'd take over the show.

as to the cabal, it wasn't just one failed mission that sank them, druitt, and it was just revealed, tesla, went a little 'jaffa revenge' on the cabal. Any organization like them and if you kill off the right leaders, the rest just crumble. and that's probably what they did, assassinated the leaders and the rest scurried away.

first off, the guy that was accused to killing the priest... right away i knew i knew that guy, and then realized it was the mongol kid from 'emancipation' that kidnapped sam! i wouldn't have been able to recognize him if i hadn't seen that ep recently. :p

loved the ashley reference! and helen's reaction to this.

loved tesla feeling bad about the situation. he loves helen, and no matter how much he wants to return to vamp, he genuinely doesn't want to hurt or disappoint her.

how did tesla survive? did he pull the door or other metal around him to survive the explosion?

nice side story about biggie. he's not a fave character of mine, but i like what they're doing with him this season. loved the scene where the nice priest told biggie that there was a place, where all god's children were welcome... i just wish they could have showed biggie meeting helen for the first time. :p

cute moment/reference to the ghost hunters type show and ep that biggie and kate were watching. total reference to amanda's time on the show. :p

-LOL same here with the kid who was off of "Emancipation". I knew I recognized him too :P
-Yea I loved the Ashley reference too. It was great that they mentioned her.
-Hee Yea I liked how Nikola wanted to be a vamp again & that he shows how he cares for Helen. **hint** By thanking her when he held her hand :D
-Yea I'm pretty sure he used his abilities to surround himself in metal.
-Omg yessss!! I wish we could've saw when he met Helen! That would've been so great ^_^
-I've been wanting to see her in that show but I don't know where to see it at. :(

Shortedned opening credits happen so times, but more or less they return to normal.

I hope so, it just annoys me that it seems like it's only SyFy that's shortened the opening, Space in Canada seems to be showing the full one.

Incidentally, did I see that there was a new writer on this ep?

Yep, this was new writer Gillian Horvath's first episode. :)

but in what way? using a metal wall to protect himself?

Yeah, it looked like he used that metal wall to shield himself from the brunt of the fire of the explosion.

Yeah, I figured Tesla and Druitt took out the Cabal leadership, so while the separate cells may still exist they're not the global threat they used to be. Kate did mention in Firewall that they're a lot of ex-Cabal people still running around. Personally I like that the Cabal isn't still the big bad on the show, these occasional callbacks are enough for me.

kill the leaders and you remove the paycheck. remove the paycheck and the loyalty goes with it

they'll still keep up what they were doing, or alter what they were doing - such as becoming bounty hunters or trading in the trafficking of abnormals, or a few might go underground with their research.

but instead of one giant agency with a limitless pocketbook, there are a bunch of little cells that are a pain, but not insurmountable.

it's actually what SG1 would have faced with the goa'uld. Kill off the main baddies and little ones step up. soem better, some worse. but it can almost be more work to topple the little cells than it was to kill the main 'big bad'

this is also the first time we've known that both tesla and druitt hunted the cabal. prior to this, we just knew it was druitt.

i rewatched the ep today. (ff through some biggie stuff)

i'm very curious on what this notpriest guy wants. he's prob an abnormal, seeing as he murdered the cop (how, i don't know).

i picked up on some stuff i first missed in the ep, like nikola saying it was same blood type that made the little critters attracted to him (and helen). i still don't know what they were doing with nikola in that cocoon, and whether that was what they would have done with helen. i *really* hope it wasn't for 'food'. :S :p

if i understood it right, the source blood permeated the rocks, making the super centipedes. obviously made them smart and sentient.

they sensed the same blood in tesla, and seemed to want to keep him for some reason. it obviously wasn't food or he'd have been eaten by now. once they got close enough to helen, they sensed it in her too.

same premise as naqahdah i think. the bugs sensed it just like one goa'uld senses another

I kinda had a feeling about that kid, but I didn't really think much of it, but I'm glad you picked that up. :) You should say that to Amanda next time you meet her about the new name for the show. :p

fun bantering with everyone. :p (and wil was right about tesla :p)

I liked that moment when he was about to say Ashley's name, but didn't, only to keep Helen from getting hurt. He may flirt with her a lot, and act all cocky, but I believe he cares and respects her a great deal. :)

i was not sure about that second priest, but as soon as he made the comment of thanking biggie for sharing his sadness (or burden?) with him, i started suspicioning him.

He did say he used his powers to shield himself with all sorts of metal, so maybe that took most of the blast.

I'm glad they gave Biggie a story of his own, and we got to see bit of how he came to be, and how he found the Sanctuary. I still wish we could have seen him meet Helen in the 1950's. :)

I didn't suspect the priest until the very end.

cute moment/reference to the ghost hunters type show and ep that biggie and kate were watching. total reference to amanda's time on the show. :p

were the bugs attracted to helen and tesla b/c they sensed the same type of blood in them that was in themselves? but why? like a child to parent thing? and when they cocooned tesla, where they going to feed off him?

How awesome would it have been to hear Biggie or Kate make a reference about Amanda on the show? :p

Kate: Oh, who's that chick?
Biggie: She's from an old Syfy show, and she's there promoting some new show of hers. I hear it's good.
Kate: Oh yeah, her and some wrestler dude.

i've noticed it too. not that the series wasn't up to par, but i do notice they've raised the bar this season. (dollars to donuts, the series has some more money to spend ;) )

I still think that we haven't seen the last of the Cabal yet. I would however, like to know what happened to Dana Whitcombe - what did John do to her?? Add her to his list of ripper killings or do something more heinous...give back to her what she did to Ashley perhaps??

Agreed, Sky. I don't think they thought abnormals would know enough about them to go after them. Perhaps they thought John was too unstable. Dude, they killed his *daughter*. And they were in Nicola's way for his plan of world domination (as well as Nicola having known Ashley). They had to be destroyed. So John teleports in, they each kill in their own way, teleport out. Or they split up and each take out a section. I'd imagine a combination of that. Those two "adolescents" can't be around each other for long.

I LOVED this ep. My personal favourite so far. :)

I liked that there was two stories for us to follow, coming together at the end only with that beautiful scene in the cathedral. (It was the same place as Ashley's funeral, right?)

And overall, since the beginning of this season, I'm really happy to see more of Biggie. He's well thought in the episode, doesn't feel thrown in. Since 301, I'm just totally in love with him! :D I'm really glad of how he turned out.
I agree with what some others have said, his background episode was overdue. I'm glad we got it!

That's what I thought too. ;)
When he talked to Biggie by the end of the episode, I told myself, 'How convenient, another priest to help him.' I should have known he was a baddy. At the end though, I laughed, 'Of course! Why didn't I see it coming?' I think whatever he really is will make an interesting story. So far, I'm not that much into it, but I still loof forward to the next ep he'll appear in.

Ahhh, the Ashley reference. I was sooo happy to hear it. IMO, we should have had more of it in season 2, but I'm glad it was brought in in this episode. Felt completly right, and you can finally see how much it affected Helen. Not that I thought it didn't, but you know, they moved on so fast after Ashley's death in season 2 - they had to, it's a TV Show - that I was a little disapointed. It was a really nice call back and a great opportunity to see how Helen feels, the shock of her death now passed.
I liked how Nikola didn't want to tell her, but knew he had to. It was a nice moment.

Henry and Nikola together are really funny. I think Henry anmires/worships the guy, because he is a tech genius but on the other hand he hates his attitude. So their interaction is always great:D
I agree! Henry was really funny. He totally hates him because, let's face it, Nikola is/can be a jerk, but he is a genius. ;P

and on Helens outburst (which was really infomative, too), that's what i wrote in msn:
Not spoilered 'cause it's related to this ep:
It's interesting. I thought something along those lines, but more centered on The Five.
Griffin's dead, Watson's dead. God knows what happen to Druitt at the end of Haunted. Three of the four men she's closest to already 'died' - I put John in the dead category because we don't know anything right now. I think that's where her reaction comes from when she understands Tesla intends on sacrificing himself. If he dies, then she really is the last of The Five.

anyone notice, the scene of 'operation paranormal' investigation? from Instinct in season one. the warehouse and reporter episode.

so multiple call backs.
Yep - I noticed it! Made me laugh. :D

I hope not. I love his overweening sense of importance. :P As much as I love seeing him, I'd rather him not be there too often. He'd take over the show.
I agree. I think we love Nikola because we don't get to see him often. If he's there every episode, it would ruined the fun, IMO.

I thought it was because there blood is more 'pure' than the one in the cave, so the insects felt more attracted to it.
Something like that anyway.

FINALLY around to posting my thought about this episode.... In defense to myself however Sanctuary has been what's keeping me busy :cameron:

Anyways on with the critique or rather my humble opinion which you know what they say about opinions ;)

Overall I ADORED the episode, I mean come on how could you not? A nice little action adventure and while Will and Helen were 'playfully annoying' each other over Tesla in the background Henry was the voice of logic and then he's being annoying with Tesla so it was just PERFECT!!!

Let me just go on record as saying I don't ship Helen with anyone so I look at this from a friendship perspective and it was very clear that despite what others may read as concern and love between this person or that I saw Helen and Nikola simply have that 'deep friendship/ respect' thing going on and it was really nice. Everything from the way he started to tell the story and not tell it at the same time and to her wink when he was rescued and he thanked her to her patting him on the back before the scene cut away. I have to also say that Nikola's 'several thank you's' always directed at Helen spoke volumes as well; Will & Henry are helping to save his life and he only thanks the lady...NICE. LOL :)

The call out to Ashley, the Cabal and the Source Blood was really nice and the story was woven together in just the right way so it didn't feel rushed or forced. It also gave us a chance to see despite the losses how much Tesla hasn't changed and how much Helen has!!!! I totally agree with her desire to destroy the nest and her statements and anger about never seeing another Cabal or another 'Ashley' created in the pursuit of Source Blood. :sam:

Though it wasn't my favorite storyline because well I just don't usually get into the b-story like I do the a-story; I tend to follow the lead characters not supporting so much, but this was WONDERFUL!!!! Despite all the fan fiction I've read, the discussion, even what was shown in the webisodes no one imagined that the Big Guy met Helen that way or that a priest who understood abnormals was involved. It was greatly done and showed a depth and understanding of his character that we haven't seen before. He's really growing by leaps and bounds this season in my humble opinion of course.

I caught all the little nuiances specifically the paranormal operations aka Ghost Hunters and Fort Deleware reference right away but only because I watched ALL those hours live just case Amanda was there...it was 'interesting' for sure.

The end with Helen and the Big Guy was just great, as he was there for her in Eulogy she was there for him in this episode and it just showed in a simple touch how much strength and love could be conveyed. It was GREAT.

And despite what folks say I have to say that the funniest scene in the ENTIRE episode, and may Magnus and all the other characters forgive me, was Kate coming in with that hat and outfit on. LOL I mean come on, SERIOUSLY and talking about this frequent flier thing...How could anyone NOT laugh about it? LOL ;)

Overall again GREAT job Team Sanctuary!!! Keep em comin' for a long, long time. Unlike SG1 or SGA I've gotten involved with this show from the first moment not in repeats and I'm likin' it, I'm lovin' it, I'm wantin' more of it. LOL (Lord almighty that was corny even for me :mckay: )

Those vampires they created in S2 were no match for John and Druitt without creating a weapon. I don't buy it. If they are smart as they were portrayed then they would have protection against Tesla and Druitt from just easily killing them. For example they would have also used an EM shield against Druitt.

Only real complaint is the shortened opening credits. Is this happening in other countries as well or is it just an annoying Syfy thing?

I agree with your comments, well said.

In Canada, we get the full opening credits. I am beginning to like the new opening theme music.

LOL. I never even noticed the jeans and thigh straps.

I agree (no surprise there).

It was a new writer, Gillian Horvath. Met her on the tour but didn't get much time to talk to her. Thought she did a great job on this ep.

anyone notice, the scene of 'operation paranormal' investigation? from Instinct in season one. the warehouse and reporter episode.

so multiple call backs.

One other, Damian used to write for a show called PSI Factor, about paranormal activity. :)

Re: bolded part. No you are not alone. While I get not want Season 2 to become all about the hunting down of the Cabal, their demise was way too easy and quick IMO. If it was so easy for Tesla and John to wipe out the Cabal then why weren't they doing that earlier?

I loved the return of Tesla, In addition to his banter with Helen, which I have always loved, I really enjoyed the Tesla/Henry banter. I will say this again, I am loving the return (to me) in Season 3 to the LOL Henry lines.

Loved the reference to Ashley and seeing how painful it still is for Helen.

On a side note, we saw the cave set on our tour, very cool. The floor which looks like dirt is actually little rubber pellets. Less messy and very cushy underfoot!

Couldn’t help but notice AT was wearing her F*Cancer bracelet throughout the entire episode. A very nice touch.

I thought I saw that! I did a double take but said "nah!" V. cool that AT has one. I bought one a while back when work started getting to me to be a visual reminder of why I got into my line of work in the first place. Visual cues can be amazing attitude adjusters! ;)

Still have to do a rewatch at some point. Most likely Friday before the new ep airs.

Just rewatched and came up with my list of favorite quotes:

Breakfast isn’t the time for salted cod- Will to Biggie

What if he’s posing as the king of a lost mountain tribe and wants me to be his queen? - Helen to Will

Hope you brought your headlamps—which I know you did because I packed them for you. – Henry

Maybe he’s building the mother of all wine cellars – Henry

Look away, I’m hideous. – Nikola

Hold still, Genius. – Henry to Tesla

Boys! – Magnus before caving in the cave

... it has a few drawbacks, like if you’re not careful, your razor sticks to your face – Tesla

Care to assist? – Tesla
HELL YEAH… I mean… whatever –Henry

Dude, did you not see The Fly? You could become half vampire, half centipede! – Henry

:D:D:D

I thought it was because there blood is more 'pure' than the one in the cave, so the insects felt more attracted to it.
Something like that anyway.

maybe they thought they were mummy and daddy?

maybe like the SGA episode, where sheppard could walk into the lair of the iratus bugs because he was changing into one

except, in this case, the centipedes probably saw magnus and tesla as 'source blood' for the next generation of buggies.

Your welcome. I can't help it, I watch Star Wars too much, LOL!! But on a serious note, I agree with a few posts above, it was most likely the guy who played Major Marks on Stargate.

What a great episode, I kind of felt like the Tesla plot was the main plot of the episode but then at the end the Big Guy/Kate plot took over in interest for me and arc significance. I'm wondering if fake priest had to first make an emotional connection with the Big Guy before he could get inside his head.

Tesla = the new Magneto :D

i love the helen/tesla relationship! :p

while i mildly ship them, it's their individual personalities being made to spend time together that fuels the fun in watching them. :p

and besides, i think helen has a thing for bad boys :p (like i think sam did too)

not so sure about Sam, Amandas on record saying that Helen is a much more sensual character than Sam was. Helen was defiantly into the idea of being the Queen of the tribe :-)

I have to say I was a little disappointed in the episode. Maybe I was spoiled by the other Tesla shows being so over the top great, that this one was good, but didn't seem as good as the Tesla ones usually are.

I guess I missed some of the one liners. I kept falling asleep. Not a good sign. The magnet thing isn't as cool as the electricity or vampire I guess. I have to agree with Tesla on that one.

Oh. The bugs reminded of me of replicators. I wonder if they used the same sound track or noise effects for their feet.

Personally, this was one of the best episodes....if you remember the news reporter telling the public about the priest being murdered. Well she signed off using my mother's maiden name...Shirley Wilkins. I won the auction bid at AT4 to name a character. My mother passed away a few days before Mother's Day 5 years ago and it made my day to hear her name mentioned.

Not so sure the Nikola story was the B story, but...To me it was definitely the A story, the Biggie stuff was just 'what was happening meanwhile back at the Sanctuary' though still interesting.

Anyhow, great Niko episode all the way! I especially loved how Will and Helen had Niko all figured out, nothing they did surprised him :D

i think my fave part of the ep was where helen found out what nikola was really up to. loved his reaction to feeling afraid for her to know, and ashamed when she did. and throwing in helen's total  and :( that ashley's fate was brought up...

i wonder if helen *hates* the source blood now? it's what brought her and her friends to the states they are (and with some, where), but it ended up being what, in a round about way, killed her daughter.

That was one of my favourite parts too! It was a really great moment between Helen and Nikola. Not what we were use to see between the two of them - it that wasn't about snarky comments, but about raw emotions - for Helen at least. I loved it. :)

And I don't think Helen hates the Source blood per se. I think she hates what people could become with it. (She thought for a long time it was the reason for John's madness - we now know it's not, but still.) It killed many abbies, her daughter. The Source blood offered her many wonders, but it's also responsible for so much destruction....
I see her having a sort of love-hate relationship with the blood. ;PP
But I bet if she were to find another vial or something with the Source blood, she would do everything in her power to preserve it. 'Cause it still is something worth exploring.

Of course helen won't take direct revenge... she has John for that. He's her instrument of anger and vengeance on the Cabal and he's happy to go on a killing spree.

Nikola didn't understand the depth of her pain, well, her didn't care. If he cared about Helen's reaction he wouldn't have gone at all to South America to look for the Source blood. But that would be totally against his selfish nature to think of anyone else. He is only concerned with getting back to being a Vampire. That's all he cares about and all he will ever care about. Nikola only showed fake remorse because he got caught. If hadn't been taken prisoner by the bugs he would have taken the larvae egg and been on his merry way.

I totally loved Magnus blowing up at Tesla. it was what he deserved.

Not really fair. If he hadnt been caught and needed rescue he would have done it without her knowing. That way she wouldnt be hurt.

I do hope they move forward with the character. He has evolved quite a bit, devamping him was a risk the writers took.
But he needs more then rebuild the race/restore himself.
I do hope the arc they are building will change his motives a bit. Give him a new goal.

Yes but even with new goals, Tesla will always be Tesla! He may feel remorse for (emotionally) hurting Helen, but he still wants to be a vamp again and will do anything to get back the "master" race! Always charming but also a little maniacal about it!

I agree. The part of him that cares is verymuch outweighed by his selfishness.
I love that Helen can't help herself--she keeps getting involved. As she said, he's "interesting." You know having lived as long as she has, the routine probably holds little appeal--she needs stuff that's going to stimulate her. Besides, they've known each other for over 100 years. There's a bond there.

I think she does hate the Source blood now because of what it did to Ashley. I thought at first as a scientist she'd want to try to salvage some of it, but she didn't even consider Tesla's plan to capture one of the bugs, she wanted to destroy it all and even Tesla too if he got in her way.

Yeah, besides Druitt he's the only person left who can even begin to understand what her life's been like the past hundred-odd years. And he is unpredictable, which is I think Helen likes so I can see what she'd want to keep him around even though he may drive her crazy.

2. Like others, did like Henry and Tesla here.

4. Solid B plot, think it's the start of a bigger arc.

Like LG and Helen23 said, I don't see Helen hating the source blood, but maybe she hates what it's done to her life. Like Sally said, she's seen many family, friends and many other people she knew and cared for age and pass away, she was lead to believe it made John into a killer, Tesla into a mad vampire and so on. And then there's what happened with Ashley, and now with the events of this episode. Helen probably dislikes it now, because of all it's done to her life, but I hope she still sees all that's been given to her because of it. :)
