{Lt Colonel John Sheppard}

Kawoosh, the gate opened in front of the Jumper and it's sound was inaudible to those inside, but most of them had heard it so often, it was if it was replayed in their heads anyway.

"Hang on folks, here we go." John gave his thought to the Ancient controls and the Jumper began to move, as it did so he answered Mckay. "I think Rodney, because you're on my team....unless of course you'd rather..." He gave him a pathetic grin. "By the way, just how much did you modify number four?"

{Captain/Doctor Anne MacGregor}

Anne was mildly surprised by the sensation of traveling through a worm hole, of course there was nothing to remember except having her molecules broken down and reassembled in that way gave her the heevy geevies. She was speechless and simply smiled at Jennifer. The faces on the others, Radek, Ronon, Todd and Teyla that she could see were impassive as if this was an everyday thing. When the jumper re-intergrated with the world of Baku, she drew in her breath deeply. Mountains, a verdant green world much like the semi-tropical parts of Earth. She patted both Jennifer and Teyla each on the lap and said softly. "Thank you"

{Todd}

Todd stood slowly and looked directly into the Satedan's eyes. All too aware that he was at a disadvantage here, he had tried to ignore the human's needling but it seemed he was left with no choice but to response in kind. "Perhaps you should listen more closely Satedan, I told you it was no concern of yours," his face twisted into an unpleasant snarl, "or do you lack the intelligence to understand?"

{Ronon} -- {Teyla}

The scenery was lost to Ronon (although the gate travel was of course unmissable), when he looked back in the Wraith's slitted, snake like eyes.

"I understood what you said. But that's not really an answer. Everything you think IS of concern to us." The words 'of concern' were said exactly the way Todd had uttered them, full of disdain/sarcasm.

Teyla quickly intervened. "Todd, Ronon. We do not need this argument. We need to focus on our mission. Todd, once we land, please try and work out if this world has been culled. That is why you are here for. Nothing else."

She still felt bad about the Wraith even being there, but she did not let that show. Her face was as always calm, unemotional. Teyla hoped it would be enough to break the two up.

Ronon just shrugged Teyla off and kept staring at the Wraith's face, Todd had really messed with his head now and he wanted an answer.

Zelenka

Zelenka watched as these two giants matched up to each other and in his nervousness dropped a piece of equipment he was holding onto the floor, the sound clanged thro the deathly silence.

{Todd}

While Teyla's dislike washed over Todd's senses, it's effect was lost as he focused his eyes on the middle of the Satedan's broad chest, imagining the pleasure to be had from draining this one of life. "It is the only answer you are going to get," he looked back at the human's face and smiled unpleasantly, "and there is nothing you can do to change this fact."

{Dr. Jennifer Keller}

So thick the proverbial knife wouldn't have stood a snowflake's chance in hell of cutting it, the atmosphere seethed, teetering towards violence in the small internal space of the jumper. The antagonists were practically nose to nose, and even though Todd's body language telegraphed careful control, it would take very little to tip him over the edge. Jennifer cleared her throat, and tried an appeal to both of them.

"Ronon, Todd... look... c'mon, please, save this till later. None of us are happy about being here..." She trailed off when Ronon directed a hot, angry gaze her way, and Todd's reptile eyes looked at her from the corner of his. Perhaps humour would be a better method, she mused. "Besides, there's not enough room for a fight in here."

There wasn't a glimmer of a smile, and for the first time in her life, Jennifer wished she had a zat, or Wraith stunner, because she would have used it on both of them. The aggressive posturing and overwhelming stench of testosterone was getting to her - if they wanted a pissing party, it could definitely wait.

"We have got to work together," she said, a hint of steel in her tones, "like it or not. And you can work together."

{Ronon} -- {Teyla}

Teyla looked gratefully at Keller, it seemed the doctor might have a better chance at resolving this. Ignoring Todd for now, she turned back to Ronon, and tried to help calm him.

Just the feel of Teyla's hand on his shoulder, and her soft murmur of his name, brought Ronon out of his red haze. Keller's words hadn't really hit home until now.

He merely grunted, then turned and stood against the wall. He should have known better. Wraith had that *way* of getting in your head. He shouldn't have allowed it to happen. Ronon was still angry, but now more at himself than anyone else.

Teyla watched, kind of knowing what was going on inside. They exchanged a glance of reassurance. Teyla took her place again, knowing that for now, it would work out.

{Dr. Jennifer Keller}

Grateful Teyla seemed to have managed to get through to Ronon, Keller tentatively reached up and placed her hand on Todd's forearm. His fierce head turned in her direction, his expression telling her he was at war with his emotions. Maybe this was something she needed to address, maybe it was too soon for him to be gallivanting across the galaxy after so long in an Ancient machine? Maybe, and this did worry her, the injection was beginning to wear off? Concern for her friends, and oddly, for the Wraith, for he was a patient, pricked at her.

"Sit down," she demanded, and was surprised by her own temerity. "Now! I want to check you over."

"Well Zelenka and I did some extensive work on it we had to sacrifice a little head room in the cargo section, but if you really want to know we stored the schematics in a safe location. You can look at them once we get back to Atlantis," Rodney said.

{Todd}

As he looked down at the Doctor's small hand resting on his arm, Todd took a deep breath and allowed his muscles to relax. He had not asked for this confrontation and was annoyed he had allowed himself to be goaded so effectively.

Returning to his seat, he held out his feeding hand for Keller to inspect. "As you see there is no sign of inflammation." He looked up and a thin smile touched the corners of his mouth in response to the concern evident on her face. "And I feel quite well thank you Doctor."

{Ronon}

Ronon made a chuckling sound, watching Keller and the Wraith. He had by now calmed down enough to see the humour in that situation. Feeding hand not inflammated. Really. Did they really think their concoctions worked? He just had to hope they did (even if there was no visible evidence of either). And after all, Todd hadn't fed on anyone. Yet. And he wouldn't, for just as long as Ronon had air to breathe.

Annoyed, Jennifer snapped, "I'll be the judge of that, if you don't mind, and don't think for a minute this is just for you." When Todd chuckled at her response, she took the proffered hand and palpated around the orifice, then up his arm. There was some swelling, but nothing another shot of antihistamine couldn't handle. She reached for her kit bag, located the drug and a sharp, then quickly drew up a dose. "A little prick," she said - rather than a big one, ran through her head - and massaged the fluid into his muscle.

Neither of them realised the jumper had been landed, until an exclamation came from McKay.

{Lt Colonel John Sheppard}

Listening to the chatter and hostility in the rear John afforded himself a smile. "Old times" The thought brushed his mind. Somewhere around twelve kilomtres from the gate, the first rather large Baku settlement appeared within a large cleared area of the forest. At least from above the tree tops that's how it appeared. Coming in closer and touching down on the edge of the town gave it more perspective. It was closer to a little city than a town, twenty five thousand people lived here. Miners mostly and naturally a robust timber industry. Their level of technology being something near to Earth at around the early twentieth century. They had fossil fuel, electricity and radio. Motor vehicles were rare but they had them, a little more advanced, probably closer to nineteen thirties vintage if that could be said.

There were a number of other larger cities on Baku's main continent and the whole planet had around five million people at one time, but culling kept their growth in check. John reflected on when they first discovered Baku, the address had somehow been obscured in the ancient data base for some reason, no one could figure out why.

He brought the Jumper in slowly and landed in the towns main square, the rear door opened and he stood and spoke to the Jumper's occupants. "Right, teams of two. Choose your partners and we'll see how well you can dance. Mckay and Docor Beckett you're with me, file out everyone."

{Captain/Doctor Anne MacGregor}

Trying to hide a giggle Anne covered her mouth, she bent and picked up her pack and rifle and stood, being probably the eldest, well there was Todd, but he mostly seemed like a post pubesant teen so far. A little edgy, cranky. She could deal with that and made up her mind, she made sure she was first out, excusing herself as she went. Once she was outside, she breathed the fresh airs, wooded hints somewhat like home filled her. She took a lungfull and detected pines, eucalypt and beech fragrances, along with others she could not name.

Looking around at the town, it was if time had just stopped. Everything seemed normal, except there was not a living soul to be seen or heard. Anne turned back around and waited for the others, but not before she claimed her partner. "Commander Todd, you can be my escort please." She smiled her sweetest smile.

{Todd}

Though he doubted the need for an additional shot of antihistamine, Todd acquiesced anyway then waited until Keller had finished before flexing his hand and arm muscles. “Thank you.” He said quietly, still not entirely at ease with the fact that he was being treated by a human. “I have never imagined that my long-term health would be one of your concerns Doctor but I do appreciate the effort you are making anyway.”

But any response Keller might have made was lost as Sheppard’s request that everyone find a partner rang though the jumper. Todd smiled. He doubted anyone would willingly choose him as a partner so he merely followed the first of the humans down the ramp, curious to see what this world would hold. The cool, clean air immediately filled his sensory pits, a welcome change after the artificial air he had been forced to breath on Atlantis and he threw his head back to take full advantage of it's cleansing freshness.

He had just begun to survey the landscape when a voice entered his consciousness causing him to turn and look down at the human female standing directly in front of him, smiling in his direction. “I’m sorry Doctor MacGregor, did you just ask me to be your partner?”

{Captain/Doctor Anne MacGregor}

Lifting the rifle on it's sling to her shoulder Anne looked at Todd as if a new light had sparkled on the universe, the crisp cool air and golden morning light played tricks with her eyes, there seemed to be some sort of halo around the Alien man, an aura. No she was imagining things, she shook her head, she did miss her family and perhaps she was reaching out to someone, anyone. "Yes Todd I did thank you. I won't get in your way." She pulled out her pistol, checked the safety and and magazine and replaced it, satisfied it would keep her safe it need.

Even though Anne ranked senior to John, she was a doctor first and always, military matters she left up to those who knew what they were doing. "Colonel Sheppard, is there anywhere in particular we should be searching?" She called to him.

Grunting softly to himself, Todd decided MacGregor would be as good a companion as any while they search this world. The potential was there to glean more information from her that would, at the very least, increase his knowledge and understanding of these humans who had come from another galaxy.

But while he nodded towards her in agreement, his voice was tinged with sarcasm. "Indeed and despite the concerns of some of your colleagues, I give you my assurance that I am quite safe to be around."

{Lt. Colonel John Sheppard}

Finally out in the open, John cinched up his leg holster, picked up his pack and adjusted it on his back, he thought for a moment, he didn't know why, but he was going to requisition the SGC for some Zat's to be sent to Atlantis. Every little bit helps he thought. Somewhat surprised to see Captain MacGregor had chosen Todd, he looked the small woman over. He own pack looked like it would topple her over and she was no youngtser either. But from what he read of her file, she would probably carry her pack and someone else's as well. What was it O'Neill wrote "As tough as old boots, but pretty ones" Well he was right about pretty. John knew he had that "Kirk" reputation, and if the doctor wasn't married to the the SGC's new Fleet Admiral, well.....

He wanted to make sure that everyone, each team was not far from the next so he made sure the disperals were not too wide. "Doctor, if you and Todd take the north end of the village that would be fine. Telya, Ronon, east toward the forest. Jennifer, you can take Radek and help him set up his intruments in the town square, check for any energy anomilies...or whatever it is you do." He looked back into the Jumper to see where McKay was. "Mckay?"

Teyla nodded at John's order and looked at Ronon. His eyes seemed to be more focused on the Wraith than anything else. She sighed, which caused his attention directed at her.

"What?"

"Nothing. We need to go."

"Yeah, I heard. It's just..." He gestured toward MacGregor's team.

"Ronon. She will be fine." Her voice sounded somewhat impatient, if that could be said of Teyla.

Ronon wasn't so sure, and followed her rather reluctantly. They set off toward the forest in the east, as per orders. Even if neither thought they would find anything there but nice scenery. This truly was a pretty world, Teyla thought, as they walked.

Settling her pack on her back, Jennifer gave a nod of agreement, pleased to be working with Radek. The Czech was always pleasant company, and a very smart man, despite what Rodney was fond of saying. All in all, she liked him, and considered him a friend - to them both.

The final hints of morning mist burning off promised a fine day, and she orientated herself, checking for signs of life. For anything which would indicate this was something other than dead. First impressions were not good.

Aware Zelenka followed in her footsteps, Jennifer waited by the exterior of one of the houses while he caught up with her. The windows stared out at the square, thrown wide open, and the curtains fluttered against the wood, captured, moth-like, stirred by the breeze. It was so quiet, all she could hear was the buzz of insects as they flitted from one bloom to another, already eager to continue work, and the murmur of the rest of the team as they fanned out. It wasn't right, not right at all... Where were the children, the animals? And the door? It was ajar...

Jennifer felt her heart speed up, and a fine slick of sweat blossomed over her skin. Nerves beginning to get the better of her, she decided on a bold move and pushed the door wide open. It flew inwards with a bang, but there was still nothing.

Moving over the threshold, Keller glanced around. Whoever lived here had left in a hurry. On the table, a half-eaten meal, overturned drinks.

"Radek, have you found anything outside?" she asked, turning to face the scientist as he came to stand at her side.

"Looks like they were taken suddenly, no warning, the Pasgard could do that, but i dont understand why there are no animals, not even bones, just no trace, unless the Pasgard took them to help feed the people while they experimented on them, there is no use letting your subjects die" .He stepped into the room, a few rays of light came thro the windows, lighting a little of the table and its contents, he picked up a cup, it was half empty, he replaced it on the table and gave a heavy sigh
"I wonder if the others are having any more luck?" he headed back towards the door and as he passed Jennifer he said
"Id better go set up in the square, and see what i can find, maybe some residual energy from the beaming tech, if it is them"

Picking out a direction and ushering Rodney along, John fely uneasy about this place. Pasgard yes he could go with that, but there were issues that pressed against his mind. Two shadowy figures ducked in and out of the tree line, small and fast, they headed back to the caves, inside small voices could be heard. The first slightly larger one hushed them. "Shhh, they Lantean's are coming this way."

"Well that's good isn't it Rolf?" A smirl girl said.

He shrugged. "I dunno. Maybe, maybe not. But I sawed a Wraith with em' that can't be good." Rolf said. Sadness creased his eyes. There were fifteen of them, children of Baku. Herded quickly into the caves by a quick thinking woodcutter when the first ships appeared above the town. Fifteen children saved by the fact they had been playing in the woods, the oldest Rolf was no more than twelve.

She reached inside her jacket and withdrew a slim lady's wallet. Opening it she showed him a picture of her parents in their youth, circa 1940 with the City of Sydney as a backdrop. "That and some cities and towns in what we call the old Soviet empire. There is still a lot of older looking places like this on Earth." She looked ahead, something gleaming in the distance caught her attention, like a mirror glinting in the sun, but out in the open not two hundred meters toward what might have been a Town hall. The search in the cottage revealed zip, and Jennifer decided to go out of the building through the back entrance. It lead to a small garden, one that had been tended well before the occupants of the village disappeared, and she went out into the rows of neat vegetables, looking at the crop. If nothing else, some of this would be a welcome addition to the diet of Atlantis, as it was a pity to let them go to waste.

Excitement seized her, and she clicked her com. "Colonel, I think there are survivors..." Crouching, Keller reached her hand out and picked up the husk of a fruit, a freshly eaten husk, with undeniably human teeth marks in what remained of its flesh. "I think we've seen what we could, here," Ronon said. The forest was quiet around them, only sounds they heard were bird songs.

Teyla turned from her careful navigating through a tree-logged and leafed path, and looked at him. "What do you mean?"

"There's no one living here now. All the tracks I see are weeks old. Nothing fresh except animals." A crack on a branch made him look in that direction. Ronon only saw a running deer-like creature's behind, its bushy tail dancing in the sunlight. Soon it was gone, disappeared into the dense forest.

"So where would they go, if there are still survivors?"

"Don't know. The hills, maybe. There's caves."

"Let's head over there then."

"Tell Sheppard first."

"Teyla, Ronon. There are more caves to your north by east, Swing by Doctor MacGregor and see how she's doin first, then move onto the other caves." John had memorised the area from previous visits and didn't want to leave anything to chance. He crept further up the slope and as he moved toward a rather large Beech looking tree a crack rang out and the zing of a bullet whizzing over in Rodney's direction. "Mckay down, someone has a bead on us one hundred metres straight up."

"Got it Sheppard, the bugger almost got me." Rodney said as he began checking his body for holes.

"Crack." Another shot rang out.

"Sounds like a bolt action, one of the rifles the local militia use."

"I don't care what kind it is." Rodney moaned. "We need to tell them we're friendly."

"Agreed."

Drawing much closer to the object, Anne stopped in her tracks and held up her hand, she could see from this distance it was like the sun shining off glass, a pair of binoculars perhaps. She looked at Todd and nodded towards her right, indicating a sheltered shop awning, from where they might themselves observe a possible observer. She checked herself for remembering to have her own small binoculars in her packed, well she hoped she did. She whispered softly. "Todd, over there, but walk normally, we're not in a hurry."

In the distance a shot rang out, echoing throughout the wooded valley, Anne put it out of her mind for the moment, as the potential for them to be boxed in was highly likely. "Colonel Sheppard, this is Anne MacGregor. We may have someone watching us." She relayed quietly on her coms

A soft brogue interrupted her, as Carson joined her. "What the bloody hell was that?"

"Gunshot..."

"Aye," the Scot agreed, and set off back to the village square, his shoulders set with determination.

Jennifer ran after him, her pack banging her back. "Carson... did you contact Atlantis?"

"That I did, love," Beckett said, "and they're standing by." His pace didn't slow as he spoke, and he added, "But first things first, Jennifer, lass. We could have injured up there."

Keeping well behind the over large tree, John got on his knees and went prone, he reached for his monocular and scanned the hillside above. There at the entrance he saw what could only be a young boy of no more than twelve taking a bead on Mckay's position with a rifle not unlike the carbines used in the early part of the 20th century. He kept his voice low, checking to see Mckay had taken cover, which he had, crouching down behind a fallen log. John heard the reports coming in. "Doctor MacGregor, confirm. I have a damned kid here trying to have target practice with us." He was on an open channel, so the rest of the teams could hear him. "Jennifer, if you and Carson kept to my left, straight up north and west from your position, you'll be covered. We need someone to talk with this kid, and you know what me and Rodney are like with kids...over."

Bang! Another shot rang loud, and echoed around the still forest. Bird life fled and the sounds of scampering small animals could be heard.

Mckay glanced over the log and another shot was fired. It took a large piece of bark from his log. "He almost got me."

"Keep your head down then Rodney."

All throughout that conversation, Ronon and Teyla had done their best to catch up with MacGregor and Todd. They didn't really need to discuss it, Teyla just went ahead and followed Ronon, knowing already where his path went. And besides, it was in Sheppard's orders. Listening to the radio chatter and then the gunshots that were all over the place, Teyla's eyes widened and she told Ronon to stop.

"Ronon. You should go back to Sheppard. He will need an extra pair of eyes and hands."

"He said to look after the doc."

"I know. He is in trouble though."

"Nothing he can't handle."

"A group of scared children with weapons?! Him and Rodney?! Really, Ronon..."

"Like I said. Nothing he can't handle. Besides. If those kids saw Todd. They'll just think we're with him. If they see we treat him as a prisoner, then they just might change their minds."

"You are reaching." 'And going to enjoy that far too much...'

"Maybe. But it's as good a plan as any, right?"

Teyla grudgingly agreed, then started to move again, and Ronon led the way. It didn't take them long to reach the Wraith's area.

"Doctor MacGregor?" Teyla asked, quietly appearing behind them where they stood watching something.

"From descriptions I've read back at the SGC, they appear to be Geni uniforms, what do you think Ronon?" Her head turned to Todd, she knew he was watching intently as well. {Todd}

The sound of gunfire flashed through Todd’s mind like a whip but his immediate response was very different to anything he would gnerally feel in such a situation. Unarmed and so ill-prepared to fight any adversary who had the advantage of being able to pick him off from a distance, he was also filled with uncertainty about how this treatment the Atlanteans had administered would effect his ability to regenerate if he was to be shot more than a couple of times.

He grunted softly. Annoyed though he was to find himself in a position that would render him dependent on these humans if the situation deteriorated too far, at least Doctor Macgregor seemed capable so it made sense to continue following her lead.

But any comfort he might feel in her company was jolted by the arrival of the Athosian female and the Satedan. He grunted again, far more aggresively this time. Just as he would have no qualms sacrificing the Satedan if the need arose, there was no doubt in his mind that the feeling was mutual. Watching the self-satisfied smile spread across the human’s face he made the decision not to respond, this was not the time for personal vendettas so he merely smiled briefly in return before turning away to scan the immediate vicinity.

Quickly his highly-tuned senses detected the presence of other humans close by. One, perhaps two creatures, probably young humans were around but their presence was of little interest to him, they posed little threat so he passed them by quickly.

He caught the scent of the Genii at the same moment as Macgregor;s question about their identity entered his subconscious. Although the question was directed at the Satedan, he took some pleasure in answering first. “Indeed Doctor, they are Genii. You may not have come across them before but I can assure you once you have had dealings with them, they are a race you will never forget.”

Sorry about the length of this post but Todd has been out of action for a couple of days as RL issues took priority and had a little catching up to do…

{Ronon} - {Teyla}

Ronon took the offered binoculars while Todd answered the question. It didn't really annoy him. He peered through the far-reaching device, and indeed saw the three soldiers there. Genii weren't really a big problem, you simply had to outwit them. Weapons wise, they were a match for the Lanteans, yes, but hardly 'unforgettable'. He rolled his eyes a little at that remark of Todd.

Teyla spoke, quietly whispering. "I do not suppose these Genii are our mystery enemy here. They simply happen to be here now, yes?"

Ronon nodded and turned toward MacGregor, speaking quietly as well. They were quite hidden from view, he had made sure of that the second he'd gotten there.

"Ignore the Genii for now. The less they know about our number, the better. We need to get out of here." His voice was quiet, almost inaudible.

"Do you know if there are any of the others here?" Teyla asked MacGregor. "We need to warn them and take them with us."

It was Ronon that answered, after a quick think. "Zelenka. He should still be around."

He took the binoculars up again and peered through them, scanning the city for signs of their scientists. Zelenka was seen entering a shop across the market, it went so fast Ronon almost missed it.

"I just saw him, he's in that shop." He pointed out its location. "Safe for now, but..." He left his words hanging, knowing the others would know he meant he wasn't sure of any more Genii hanging around. Maybe that was why the little scientist had gone into that shop? Had he seen the soldiers?

"I'm going to take a leap of faith here." Anne began. "I'm no military tactician, but I've been around my husband and son long enough to know we may be as they say 'boxed' in." She unslung her rifle and looked at the three of them. "Ronon,Teyla I know how you feel but right now our very survival may depend on who can help defend us, I would suspect that these Genii are not merely a random patrol. It is more likely if they are part of the rebel group, they have been searching worlds to set up a base." She glanced upwards slightly a fear crept over her, she then handed the G36 to Todd. “You'll be better with this than I Todd, you have my trust...for now.”

*****************************

Far away to the west, a small armoured vehicle trundled along with it's Genii crew. They had come to Baku hoping to secure arms for their cause, this world being almost the next closest to theirs in technology and occasionally the old regime had traded with them. When they arrived a few days ago to find the world uninhabited, it was like a gold mine to them. The commander suspected the Wraith at first, but that idea was quickly put paid to when no sign of resistance could be seen. The Bakun, had a well organised military, they had, though primitive, missiles and had been known to give the Wraith pause on previous occasions. Yet this was something else and Commander Sips, had her main force go west to the docks and see if they could get passage across the seas and visit the other main continent, ten days steaming away.

Returning along the same road they had come, the little convoy of six vehicles stopped for a meal break. Genii soldiers disembarked, stretched and talked while they ate. Second Commander Kolin Flyn, looked at his map again, they had been to the docks and found it as deserted as all the towns and villages. Ships were either tied up alongside or at anchor, one or two were seen drifting helplessly out in the wide bay. Kolin suspected there may have been survivors somewhere, fresh tracks, possibly small children were seen in Baku, but searches proved fruitless. Coming back with the news bouyed his hopes that at last a civilised world for the New Genii had been found, if it was on the bones of the Bakun, he couldn't care less. After an hour he ordered his troops, all forty of them, good solid men and women, to remount and continue back to the city.

It took him a great deal of effort. But he knew, he understood what Teyla meant by stopping him. They had to learn to trust each other. It still made him feel sick, to actually have to do this. But he would do it. His survival instinct was still greater than his need to hate Wraith, even though it was close.

A slight smile crossed Todd's face as he wrapped his long fingers around the rifle Doctor Macgregor held out towards him. "Thank you Doctor, I can assure you trust is not the issue here, my instinct for survival is just as strong as yours."

The Satedan's disapproval radiated towards him but it was pleasing to see some sense prevail even though he knew it did nothing to diminish the animosity that existed between them. He grunted thoughtfully to himself as he looked down at the rifle, turning it over a couple of times to familiarise himself with a weapon that felt very different from the compact Wraith stunner he usually carried. This human weapon was primitive to say the least but it could help save his life which was all that mattered here.

Todd watched the Sateden move away alone but decided to turn his attention towards their common enemy. Closing his eyes, he looked over to where they had spotted the Genii and tried to estimate how many of these wretched humans he could sense around them. "There seems to be quite a number of them but they appear to be in groups which may make it easier to overcome them if we are able to separate them further." He stated. "I suggest we advise Colonel Sheppard of this fact."

"Engage, forget my last, no prisoners, they are not to be left alive."

Sips left her sniper in place and rushed down the stairs and gathered the rest of her team. "Follow me, arms at the ready we have a easy fight today my faithful." Another five Genii gathered their gear and followed the woman down and out into the street. They would move south and trap the hated Lantean's and their Wraith pet between the two teams. "Grimwald open fire, we'll be there shortly." She screamed the lust of battle in her black soul.

Genii were suddenly swarming the place, and worse, they were headed for the team. Ronon followed them in stealth, trying to get a good shot, which was hard since they ran fast and dodged every other second. Then finally he had a shot and he nailed one. Then two more.

Then he had to run, since some of them had noticed and his position was compromised. A messy firefight ensued, just then his comm came to live and he angrily growled into it.

"Kinda busy here," *pang pang, iiiiiiiieeeeeewwwww BOOM* A grenade(or a rocket:eek:)-like thing exploded, missing Ronon by a few meters, though it did damage to the building he was using as cover, causing bricks to fall down. They narrowly missed him as he ducked away, though one grazed his head, and damaged his comm beyond repair.

He growled again, then hurried to the others, they needed help and he had done all he could from here, diminishing overwhelming Genii numbers. It hadn't been easy. Ronon next appeared beside the Wraith, and kept on firing, not aware that there was a trickle of blood running down his neck.

Meanwhile Teyla was doing her best to help MacGregor whom she had dragged to a safer spot that didn't seem to get as much hits. As the Colonel's voice came through her comm, she quickly replied, "We are surrounded John, Doctor MacGregor's been shot, there are about a dozen of them out there and they have some heavy weapons!"

"Not a dozen anymore, maybe nine left now," Ronon added with a grunt (he didn't know his comm was broke), he'd finally become aware of the pain, and angrily wiped the blood off. It was just a minor wound, and he was only alive because of the Genii's bad aim.

<Genii team 2>

"Grimwald can you still see him?"

"We've moved around the back Commander, wait.." One of Grimwald Zelek's underlings tapped him on the shoulder, he had spotted the little man come out the back and head south. The six Genii commando's gained the back wall and followed low, keeping their heads below the stonework. "Commander, he's met up with others...damnation they have the Wraith with them, orders?"

"You heard her, use the wall for cover and engage." The UnderCommander spat the words with venom.

A barrage of Genii automatic fire began to rain down around the Atlantis team. There was nowhere to go.

Some of his team had gone down to the accursed Satedan, Grimwald checked his arcs, he had two men left. His commander was closing from the Eastern end and had set up a covering wall in that direction. They needed to close fast. He looked at the shoulder launcher on the ground, the girl who fired it, now dead, her hand gripped tight around it. No time to reload it. He edged his men closer to the next wall, chancing a shot every now and then.

"Commander can you close, I've lost...." the radio crackled. " Commander?"

"Yes I can, they won't get out of this. Pull back to that shop near to you and come around from their northern side, we'll keep them pinned down."
"Yes commander, pulling back now."

Sips and her team had set up behind a natural barricade of a small hillock. They might night have been able to hit their target accurately, but they weren't going anywhere either.

<Atlantis Team 1> - <Baku>

{Captain/Doctor Anne MacGregor}

As the hail of bullets began peppering the walls and ground Anne instinctively went low, she could see the muzzle flashes from the wall to their north, the nearest escape for them was the door to the shop Radek had just come from, five metres to their right, it was that or retreat back south and try and get around the corner again. She unholstered her Baretta pistol and engaged the chamber, felt in her vest pouches and found two more magazines for the G36. She handed them to Todd. "You'll need these." She said over the noise. "Ronon, Teyla we'll need to..."

The fire was intense and becoming increasingly accurate. Anne lifted herself just a few centimetres and returned fire, then it happened. Without a sound she slumped against the wall, she looked down, blood poured from her right shoulder and the firey pain set in. "I think I've been shot."

{Lt Colonel John Sheppard}

"We are surrounded John, Doctor MacGregor's been shot, there are about a dozen of them out there and they have some heavy weapons!"

"Oh damn." John couldn't leave it like this "Jennifer we have to go, you can keep talking to the kids or.." heavy gunfire was ringing through the valley. "Teyla we're coming your way. Mckay, come on, lock and load on your feet."

{Todd}

Almost as soon as Todd finished speaking, a hail of bullets confirmed the fact that they were outnumbered by this Genii force so he too ducked down to avoid being hit. He took the two spare magazines out of Doctor Macgregor’s hand with a nod of thanks and stowed them in the pockets of his overalls as he moved away to a position from which he could get a better view of the enemy. This ridiculous human outfit might lack the style of his leather garb but at least it had some basic uses.

Raising the G36 to his shoulder, he looked down the telescopic sight and regretted not having more time to become familiar with the weapon before needing to use it in a combat situation. But the sight of a familiar Genii uniform caught his attention so he took aim and fired off a barrage of shots that narrowly missed their target. He silently berated himself for the failure before taking aim again, this time being rewarded with the sight of his adversary immediately falling to the ground.

As bullets struck the wall to the side of his head he ducked down again, becoming aware for the first time that Doctor Macgregor had been hit. He watched dispassionately as she was dragged to relative safety by the Athosian woman and decided things were under some semblance of control as he heard her report their situation back to Sheppard.

Also aware that the Satedan had moved beside him, he growled softly. Despite his vast military experience, he knew that any suggestion he might make about what they should do here would be dismissed out of hand so he just turned his attention back to their enemy, firing off more rounds at the shadowy figures that flitted across his sights.

She inched forward a little, taking up position behind the trunk of a tree. Sheppard's instructions to stay and talk to the kids was fine, but in the meantime her friends needed her too, and a torrent of conflict deluged her. "How many of you are there...?"

The sound of gunfire made her muscles tense, and she swallowed, anxious to go and help. She could only hope she was doing some good here.

Jennifer remembered she had her ration of chocolate with her, and if there was one thing kids liked, it was that. She made another attempt to soothe the young lad's concerns. "Let me come up there, and we'll see if there's anything I can help you with. Are you hungry?"

Ronon did hear the growl as the gunshots rang across them. It came from the Wraith, and he was a little surprised to hear it. Enough so to ask him. And if this meant he had to take the first step in actually *trusting* Todd, so be it... Besides, Todd did have a lot of military experience and Ronon was never one to let that go by without making use of it.

"Got anything to say that might help, now's the time, Todd..." Now he did look at his erstwhile enemy for a second. "Like how to get out of here in one piece. With wounded."

All the while through he kept the return fire going, attention never once wavering. By now he had worked out that his own comm wasn't working and had tossed the broken device out of his way.

The thought of food tantalised the 12 year olds brain, he was pretty sure bad people didn't offer food, the Genii had showed that by merclessly shooting one of his friends trying to retrieve supplies from the village. None of the children had eaten much since the genii had arrived and with no adults to guide them they were truly abandoned. "Maygran, you fixed her arm when she broke it, she's got yellow hair....I'm Rolf Cartel, my...my parents ran the auto shop in town before..." He began to sob and dropped the rifle. Reinforcements, eh? Who was left? Just Sheppard, McKay, Beckett and Keller. Everyone else was here, already. And none of the other team mates were even in range. He grunted, keeping the firing going.

"Doubt there will be any," Ronon replied. He reached for the comms to contact Sheppard, then remembered it was broken, and his fingers only came back blooded. Ronon cursed colourfully, and vented the frustrations on a Genii, killing them.

Teyla picked up the bandage from MacGregor but shook her head, smiling a little at the steely gaze, or at least a good attempt of it through the woman's obvious pain and discomfort. She proceeded to put the bandage on more securely, pressing hard to stop the blood. "No. I will stay here. You need a shield, Doctor. You are safe with me." Did she really expect Teyla to go back out there in the fire fight, while she was laying here, bleeding to death?! Teyla didn't think so, and her resolve was just as firm.

After a nod in the Satedan's direction Todd began to carefully edge back the short distance to Doctor Macgregor. Given her key role administering this treatment he was receiving, he felt the need to ensure she stayed alive and made it to safety. Besides he had heard his name mentioned above the gunfire and was curious to know why.

Macgregor was holding her communications unit in her outstretched hand and once he realised she meant him to take it he tucked it into another pocket but shook his head. "Thank you but I believe others have more use for this, the Satedan seems to have broken his own unit."

Looking down from the Doctor's blanched face he was surprised to see the amount of blood that now covered her clothing. "You see the irony of this situation I hope Doctor? I would offer to share the benefits of my regenerative powers with you but I suspect they have been sadly depleted by your treatment."

A quick look around convinced him that if he must defend their position with a human who was filled with hatred and distrust towards him, at the very least it should be a human who knew how to fight. Putting his head down, he edged back towards the position he had recently vacated.

<Genii>
Even though Sips had the Lantean's pinned down, they were taking losses and they were losses she could ill afford. She knew the enemy had an Ancient craft nearby, and that would certainly tip the balance. "Flyn, how far away are you?" She demanded

crackle, crackle. "Less than ten minutes Commander." Kolin replied as his lead vehicle bumped along an unpaved section of road.

"Make it less, and the city belongs to you."

"Five minutes." He urged his drivers to make speed, every Genii soldier aboard the six vehicles heard the message and readied themselves for what might be a glorious assault.

High in the Town Hall clock tower, the Genii sniper waited his moment, far to the west he saw movement close in on the parked Lantean craft, the runner wasn't in range yet, but he would be soon. He scanned the scnene down below, for the moment he couldn't see his quarry there either, but they would show. He waited and stood ready to support his commander, next to him on the wall, was the heavy calibre Bakun machine gun, ready for action as soon as needed.

Within moments the heavy cannon began it's coughing bark and naquada enhanced shells began at first with a marker trace, then the orange hued rounds began hitting the hull of the Atlantis jumper. She didn't stop until continuous rounds started making their mark and small eruptions plumed over the grey hull. {Baku Children}

"Thank you." She said meekly, then a booming sounded made all the children scream, Rolf ran to the cave mouth and returned quickly. "Doctor, doctor. The Genii are back with our war carraiges, they are shooting at your people." His eyes wide with fear.

"You've been hangin' with me too long Rodney...." John said as he ran as fast as his legs would carry. "Don't hold back though, if I make the Jumper first I'll pick you up."

"Ronon, see if you can somehow fall back inside the building, if there is more of them they'll try and close in on you, set up a defensive wall if you can....how bad is the Captain?"

****************************

High in the Town Hall clock tower, the Genii sniper waited his moment, far to the west he saw movement close in on the parked Lantean craft, the runner wasn't in range yet, but he would be soon. He scanned the scnene down below, for the moment he couldn't see his quarry there either, but they would show. He waited and stood ready to support his commander, next to him on the wall, was the heavy calibre Bakun machine gun, ready for action as soon as needed.

"I'll try," Ronon replied, then added, "You get that Jumper here, Sheppard, if we lose it it's a long run back to the gate and MacGregor's not in any kind of running shape." Of course she was fairly lightweight, so carrying her would have to be the option there.

But his words soon proved true as they heard the really big HUGE explosion that could only mean one thing. The Jumper. Somehow the Genii had managed to get it destroyed. He highly doubted the kids had done it, they weren't that skilled nor that vicious.

"Didn't you leave it cloaked?!" Ronon barked in the comm, angry as heck.

Just then though, something blinked in the sun that was shining high up at the clock tower, and he looked again, more closely this time. The barrel of a rifle peered through the railing, and he saw what could only be the Genii's version of binoculars. Still angry with the loss of the Jumper, Ronon took a careful aim, and fired, a satisfied grunt followed as he saw the man fall down over the rifle, quite obviously dead.

"We need that position," he told the Wraith next to him. "You get up there. I'll set things up down here. We'll be in that building." He pointed at said building, it used to be a grocery store. Those kind of shops usually had two exits and a storage area where they could hide.

Despite himself, Todd couldn't help but be slightly impressed by the way the Satedan picked-off the Genii in the clock-tower although he would never admit as much out loud. But while there was no denying the human's abilities as a warrior, his strategic planning left much to be desired in Todd's eyes. They certainly needed to secure this vantage point but Todd wasted no time advocating a different approach to achieving this aim.

"I agree we must take this tower but I should not do it alone," he smiled grimly, "after all it would not help our efforts to escape this mess if I got there only to be taken down by a Genii with the same lucky aim as yourself."

He made a decision, the only one he could make right now. "All right. Teyla, go with him." If there was still a part of Todd that saw Teyla as his Queen - then she would be safe. Or so Ronon hoped.

"Okay." Teyla nodded gravely, and reluctantly joined Todd. She still felt bad about the jumper, and was greatly worried about John and Rodney. There hadn't been a contact yet, so she decided to call.

{Lt Colonel John Sheppard}

With a face full of dirt, John picked himself up, the first thing he did was check in. "We're alright, is everyone else okay. Carson how is the Doc doing?" He looked across at Rodney, and if the situation wasn't so serious, he would have laughed. Covered head to foot in dust, Mckay looked rather ghostly. "Mckay, you alright?"

Where the Jumper should have been, about a kilomtre west, all he could see was a black cloud rising into the sky. It was more than twenty five kilomters to the gate, and there was no way anyone could get there in time with the Genii about. He knew there'd be others, but a full blown garrison, with armoured cars. "We are screwed." He said, not caring if anyone heard him.

He glanced toward the continuing fire coming form the down, they needed his help if he could do any good. He made up his mind. "Jennifer, you stay put. Rodney, try and keep up if you can, I'm going to help the others. Ronon, Teyla, I'm coming your way."

His legs ached, but he cared for his firends more, he pushed hard towards the town centre. "Life really sucks." He told himself.

Todd listened to Sheppard's voice crackling over the radio and carefully moved forward to get a better view of the path they must follow to reach the clock tower. It was not far but it quickly became obvious that they would have to cross a significant amount of open ground, a situation that would leave them vulnerable to Genii fire.

Sidling back to his original position, he saw but decided to ignore the look of uncertainty that fleetingly crossed the Athosian's face, confirming her discomfort over being told to accompany him. Instead he turned his attention to the Satedan. "We will be forced to cover open ground to get to the tower. Rather than Sheppard trying to make his way here, I suggest he moves round to secure a spot from which he can cover us while we try to negotiate that crossing."

Ronon & Teyla

Teyla was glad the others were fine, the force that blast had gone off with, it hadn't seemed well. But their usual banter came through and she smiled a little despite everything. MacGregor seemed to have succumbed to unconsciousness, and Beckett kept hovering around her, tending her wound as much as he could.

"Doctor Beckett? Do you think we can move her?" She asked, looking at the Scott worriedly.

Meanwhile, Ronon again had Wraith words to consider. It wasn't easy. Team mates they weren't, yet Todd acted like one. Heck, go with the flow, he told himself, a Tau'ri expression he'd picked up somewhere. Cooperation. As long as Todd did his part, Ronon would do his own. Which was to keep the team safe. It was ironic, indeed.

"Yeah. I know. How about this: We split up. I'll take Beckett, and MacGregor. You go with Teyla and Radek. You go first, covering our way till Sheppard gets here."

He grabbed the comm again and spoke into it.

"Sheppard? We have to cross open ground if we'll make it to the town hall and that clock tower. We need some cover fire. Can you get here in time? How far away are you?"

Todd frowned. He was sure Sheppard would see the need to provide additional cover but he was not prepared to accept the Satedan's plan for splitting up this small group. Taking the clock tower was not going to be easy and this Radek, a human whose military skills were limited to say the least, would be more of a hindrance than a help in achieving this result. "No, Radek should stay here until we have the tower secured. We already have one wounded human to carry, we do not need more."

He looked directly westward. If it wasn't the earlier cannon fire that unnerved him, the sound of oncoming engines didn't help either. "I count.....six."

John looked up, they had just begun to enter the farthest end of West street, travelling slowly, gun turrets turning in an arc, obviously looking for targets. The Jumper must have been practice for them. "Yeah, six." John sighed. "C'mon, we're almost there." He herded Rodney south along Main, another few metres they could turn left up the Town Hall lane and come behind the smaller Genii group. "Ronon, hold. I say hold your position. Rodney and John had made their way through the small back streets and passed the Town Hall, all the while looking above, the sniper rifle and heavy machine gun barrels poking over the edge of the small balcony below the clock, some six floors above street level, a bloodied arm also hung there. "I wonder who did that?" Rodney said as he cocked his thumb that way.

"Ronon I bet." John said keeping his head low. The gunfire had lulled for a moment, but not for long. Keeping hard against the wall, they crept along until the three Genii opposing his team were in sight. The length of this small lane was about fifty metres give or take. John nodded to Rodney, who took aim with his P90, as John hoisted the G36 he carried.

The stucatto of the shots rang through the town, no doubt the other Genii heard it as well. Sprinting to the corner where the now deceased Genii lay, the two of them set up a barrage of fire towards the hillock the main force lay hidden. "Ronon, Teyla, clear, one at a time..now"

He changed his clip and continued firing, now the Genii replied in kind.

She exchanged a glance with Ronon as the order to stay put came through, and they waited for a bit. Then nodded at Todd when he said Radek was her responsibility.

Ronon just shook his head, obviously Todd wanted to run things alone, well he was going to have to learn to cooperate, they all were. It would keep them alive. When he heard the gunfire, it became clear Sheppard had made it to their site, finally.

"Copy that, Sheppard, Ronon out," he said, clicking the comms off.

"Okay, you heard him. I'll take MacGregor, Todd, you go first, then Teyla, Radek, Beckett and me, let's go!"

He heard the cry as Sheppard was shot, saw the Satedan hurry over, presumably to help, and immediately decided his intervention would not be welcome.

Instead he kept his attention focused firmly on their target destination, the Town Hall that now stood only a short distance away. The large wooden front door was closed but a smaller side door stood ajar so, provided there were no Genii bodies cluttering up the other side, it should open easily once he got there. But he seemed to have lost the support of Teyla and this Radek so as far as he could see the only problem lay in the fact that there was very little cover between his position and the door and in the absence of covering fire getting there would be a challenge.

But waiting for these two humans was not an option, they needed to get inside and take that tower before the Geni managed to regain the position. So putting on an additional burst of speed. he put his head down and ran.

Teyla watched as Ronon went over to check on Sheppard. Their position was secure for now, Ronon had picked a good spot, but of course this would not last long. She looked around, trying to see if there were any more Genii heading into their direction. The building behind them ((T, B & McG)) was most likely an extension of the town hall or maybe simply adjacent to it. Around the corner was where they needed to go. She spotted Todd heading into that direction, and sighed, Ronon would *not* take this well. She saw her friend come back over and signalled into the Wraith's direction. Teyla saw Ronon's frown and then he ran off, after him, weapon still drawn.
There was some fire and she looked up, were the Genii directly above them?!
No, she was mistaken, it came from... next door. There was a small green patch she'd previously not seen, and she stared, for on that patch there was a rather big weapon stored. A launching device of some kind. Teyla moved so she could look better. It seemed deserted although she could see movement in the lane directly ahead of the patch. Genii most probably, although they did not seem to head toward the device.

Teyla knew she couldn't leave Beckett or the wounded MacGregor behind. They would be left defenceless. So she called for help, instead, and clicked the radio on.

"John? Look to your west. There's a green patch. And I think on that patch, there might be something we can use. I cannot get there alone, I have doctor Beckett and MacGregor here. Please advise."

Meanwhile, Ronon appeared behind Todd as if by magic.

"You did not think of going it alone, now did you, Todd?" It was asked fairly grimly, though there was a hint of humour in, as well. And during it, he never once looked at the Wraith's face, instead he kept his eye on their surroundings, chancing a shot if he saw something move.

Keller gave a faint smile. "Yeah, let's get this over and done with. They all need food and a decent shower, then some sleep." A frown creased her brow, concern filling her. There was every possibility these kids wouldn't be able to sleep, would need all the help they could get to recover from the trauma they'd been through. The two squads of marines appeared in the white flash of the Asgard beam, almost as if it were a signal, the Genii in the southern sector began firing more intensely. One marine went down instantly to the barrage of rounds. Ted roared his orders, he was quite close to John and McKay and could see the Colonel had been wounded. "Cadman, secure Sheppard and hold a defensive position here. 'A' squad take the junction of Main street, Javelin teams go with. The rest of you with me." He looked over at John as he moved toward the southern wall of a building. "Take it easy John, we'll have you out of here.....Davo, we need an immediate evac on Sheppard."

"Received, understood. ETA thirty minutes."

"You had best make that best speed Parren."

As he spoke a young woman who had been watching the floor below from the inner balcony rushed in. "Arm yourselves, a Wraith is here." She whispered and grabbed a unique three barrelled Genii squad rifle.

{Lt Colonel John Sheppard}

"Just get yourselves under cover Teyla, and make sure you take Carson and the Doc with you, Hasluck and his boys are here....won't be long." He breathed heavily, his ears buzzing with multiple coms.

Ted slowed in his tracks, pressed against the wall not two metres from his friend. "I'll take care of it myself. Cadman keep him safe. Wallace secure those b**tards down there." He roared to his number two and pointed toward the Genii hunkered down not far away.

"You got it boss." A lieutenant with his squad made their way closer to the Genii position and could see the revetment clearly they had taken refuge behind, a good defensive position. "Grenades." The soft spoken marine said. Several loud explosions ensured a moment after and they were off at a run, keeping low against any cover they could find.

When they climb up and over the grassy knoll, all but one Genii were KIA. A surly woman sneered at the Lieutenant. "You will be finished Lantean, we are not alone." She spat with her last breath.

*****************
At the edge of town, the six armoured vehicles rumbled to a stop, guns traversing, waiting on orders from the Commander, orders that never came. Flyn ordered his forty troops to disembark and spread out. "Take no one alive. I fear the command is now mine. Gunners wait for my orders, I will give you coordinates shortly." He climbed out of the turret of his lead car and joined the assembled soldiers of the Genii New Guard. "Move out."

Hearing tell-tale sounds of Genii moving in closer (the grenades outside were a dead giveaway), Ronon turned to Todd, and spoke, soft enough.

"Well, if you wanted a snack, Todd.... the Genii are setting up the table for ya, let's GO!" They needed to secure this building if their people were to seek refuge here. Ronon debated whether or not to tell Todd about the ship, but then decided against it. The Wraith didn't need to know yet, it might just make him more battle ready which was what Ronon needed right now. His head felt a little dizzy from the loss of blood, but he shook it off angrily, and proceeded onward, making his way through this maze of a building. Had the marines landed yet? For some reason his head felt foggier by the minute, and it would probably affect his aim.

Todd sensed Ronon's presence well before the Satedan spoke. As he turned in response to a question that could only have been directed at him, he was aware of the slight tone of humour that had coloured the words and a thin smile cut across his face. If circumstances had demanded it, he would have tried to take this tower on his own but if he had to have a human with him this one was probably better than most.

But his response was cool. "Any help is welcome."

As they slowly edged further down the corridor away from the door that offered their only chance of possible retreat, the offer to allow him to feed, even if they were Genii on the menu, did come as a surprise. This time he kept his eyes firmly fixed ahead, afraid that they might reveal the changes to his physiology that he was beginning to feel. Certain that the effects of the injection he'd been given on Atlantis were starting to wear off, the thought of feeding on a couple of renegade Genii was enticing to say the least.

Any help is welcome, said the Wraith. The words felt weird, and Ronon glanced sideways at the being. He did not seem to look ... good, if you could attribute that word to a Wraith. The way the eyes slitted. How he held his mouth. Hah. Maybe it was the drug, Ronon thought, a little satisfied with that thought. Whatever they had given him - Ronon still did not understand what exactly, only that it might interfere with feeding - seemed to work. Or maybe it didn't, and what Todd felt were nasty side effects? But all of those thoughts didn't get thought through to the end, there were Genii on this level and they'd almost taken a shot at them.

((I doubt Athosians have ever seen tanks :P))

What was going on here, why were these Genii so intent on war? This village was empty, safe for them and the Genii. Were they looking for a place to settle and had they instead found the Lanteans? Teyla guessed that was the reason.

Now they needed the launcher more than ever.

Radek and Teyla watched as the grenade landed in the middle of the group of Genii and exploded, there were screams and shouts from the group as bits of soil and body parts flew into the air, Radek was appaled, he just looked on aghast, in the faint distance of his mind he heard a voice, it was Teyla

Teyla looked shocked as Radek decided right then and there to shoot the darned thing, she had expected that they would carry it to safety, or at the very least find a much better tactical position than the one they had now - which was far too open for her taste.

"Radek!" She shouted, not entirely sure what they had to do now. Retreat seemed to be the best option, however.

"Come on, let's go before they realise where we are and return fire! We need to get back to the Town hall, hurry!"

Flyn looked over in shock as the debris settled around him, six of his troops gone in one blast, apparently with one of their own naquada tipped RPG's. He wiped his eyes and ordered a bombardment immediately from his armour. "All vehicles fire at will, anything that moves, raze the town if you can't see them. Troopers, advance on me, we'll take them by the south east!"

So began the razing of Baku town. The lighter APC's with their 30mm canon fired just about everywhere, making movement a hazard at best. The heavier tracked vehicle with it's larger 125mm mortar made life miserable for anything near it's lobbing shells. Haslucks Javelin teams managed to get two missiles away and score three APC's before they had to fall back, losing nine of their fifteen. His other foot Riflemen were being pressed back, all now were converging on the Town hall.

{Lt Colonel John Sheppard}

Laura, Sheppard and McKay narrowly missed being blown away twice, there was no way to reach the Marines and with John's injury slowing them down, they had only one choice, fall back. "Teyla, Radek, fall back to the Town Hall, we'll only die out here in the open."

"Oh now you tell me!" McKay quipped. "C'mon then Sheppard, you're not worth dying for...today." Rodney grabbed him under the arm and they began their withdrawal as well. Several Marines came by and gave assistance. This was not good today, not for dying.

"Thanks guys." John said and a little more quickly the moved east. "Teyla come in...where are you? Carson we're coming your way, find some very very thick walls, they have mortar."

Carson followed Hasluck's gaze, towards the Wraith's tall figure. A small spasm of revulsion crossed his face, and he transferred his attention back to the Genii woman. He couldn't bring himself to pity her, as there was no doubt in his mind she wouldn't waste effort to pity him or his comrades. It didn't mean he had to like it.

"Aye, Colonel. And be quick about it - before we change our minds."

Zelenka heard Teyla's words and got up and tucking the weapon under his arm,turned, and ran like the devil himself was behind him towards the east.
The Genii were still reeling from the attack, but it wasnt long before they began to hear gunfire again, they needed cover as fast as possible, Radek was even thinking of taking another shot, but decided against it as the bullets spat at their feet and whizzed past their heads.
Looking up he saw a wall and yelled to Teyla who was turning and fireing rapidly at the enemy "This way" He hoped she had heard him.

Carson made a disgusted noise deep in his throat, but moved away to allow the Wraith access. "Aye," he muttered, "get on with it."

The tall Wraith took a step to where the woman lay unconscious, ignoring both comments from the humans. Coming to a crouch, he examined the supine form of the Genii female, and then clamped his feeding hand to her sternum. Snarling, the noise soft, Todd watched her fade, every evidence of youth in flight... decay set in until there was nothing but a mummified cadaver beneath his palm. Rising up to his full height, Todd drew in a deep breath, and crossed to where MacGregor lay.

Meeting the woman's dull gaze, Todd hunkered down beside her. "Anne," he growled, "this may be painful, but it will restore you." Peeling back the tatters of her shirt gently, Todd was too aware of Carson's hard blue gaze, the criticism, the self-loathing the human experienced. "Prepare yourself, my dear."

Feeding hand pressed against Anne's chest, Todd felt the maw open, each hook latch to her skin, and energy poured into her. Under his hand, Anne's colour began to restore, vitality surged into her complexion, her eyes clearing as her fingers came up to grip Todd's wrist.

Ronon stood and watched, standing rock still at the second floor, hands on the railing. Every fibre in his being rebelled at this sight. Hatred for Todd grew, every bit of semi-respect was now gone. Gripping the railing harder, Ronon willed himself to stay up there, for if he didn't he was pretty sure the Wraith wouldn't have survived his attack. Angrily he turned away and instead used the rage to once again scout the whole top floor, room by room. Satisfied that no Genii were left alive, he returned to the others.

He headed back downstairs after Todd's deed had finished, repulsion still evident.

**********

Teyla followed Radek, covering him as much as she could. Genii resistance was actually fairly low. Maybe they were regrouping. They had to get to the clock tower. The weapon they carried, would be most effective there, Teyla was sure of it.

Hearing Sheppard on her comm, she answered, "John! Radek and I got the launcher. We are headed to the town hall. I believe Ronon is already there with the others. What is your status, over?" Throughout her words John could hear the bullets fly back and forth.

"Prepare yourself, my dear."

{Captain/Doctor Anne MacGregor}

Anne coughed, almost a gagged as she fully opened her eyes, she felt no pain, in fact somehow she felt better than she had done so for years. She looked up at the face that hovered over her and cleared her head of those words she thought she heard. No words came to her immediately as she looked around the large hall. Carson knelt nearby what looked like the remains of a human, a Marine Colonel stood stock still over the body of a Genii man, Ronon was approaching from the stairs. Now fully alert she sat up easily, no pain, not even the lower back pain that was always present.

"What..." She looked again at Todd, the cadaver on the floor, the grim faces of the others. "No, don't tell me, I think I know." The was a feeling of deep sadness as the thought of another losing their life to save hers, if the was another way....yet these Genii were more than willing to give no quarter, that thought gave her some comfort. The sounds of artillery reached her ears and she knew the battle wasn't yet done.

"Thank you Todd, we'll speak of this some other time." She nodded to him and stood, stretching muscles and feeling invigorated Anne approached the Colonel. "Anne MacGregor, Colonel. we can exchange formalities later..." Shouting of voices came from the courtyard outside, several Marines entered, some wounded. "For now Colonel, I may have work to do and so do you." She turned and began assisting the first of the casualties as their comrades helped them to find places to rest them.

"Carson, we may need more supplies, how do we stand?" She asked as she knelt by the first marine.

He quietly joined the other marines, helping out where needed. They didn't really try to talk to him, once they saw the look on his face, but let him do whatever he could to help their wounded. The exertion of moving their comrades around, helped calm him down, though only somewhat.

"I agree sir. I know East Bakun had a sizable army and well equipped, these guys would be quick to make use of that." John sat by the wall and waited for someone to look at his leg, he looked up at Rodney. "Mckay, see if you can find anything useful, Ronon go with him and keep him out of trouble."

Concern was written all over John's face, he tried to stand, gingerly at first. Laura had done a reasonably decent job on his leg, he would remember that later. From his position on the second floor behind Todd and Laura, John looked over the railing and scanned the scene below. Colonel Hasluck and those of his men and women still fit, were helping others to move to more secure rooms and spaces in the lower floor. At least well away from the entrance. He heard both Radek and Ronon's coms and shook his head. "How in hell did Teyla get injured." he thought. He wanted to turn around immediately but knew he couldn't. Watching Ronon be attended to, gave him a little relief and seeing McKay have his back this time helped some.

"McKay, the moment the Doc finishes with Ronon, get back to the Mercantile Store, it's the one opposite the lane we started from, I think behind that there's a wall and a grassy patch, Teyla and Zelenka are there." He looked up at the ladder leading to the bolt hole above, three floors higher would be the Clock Tower parapet, he hoped his leg would hold up. "Radek..can you here me? Ronon and McKay are coming to you. Use that RPG only if you have to, we may need it."

*********

Colonel Hasluck had just returned from getting some of his Marines into a back room when he stepped on a piece of carpet that sounded hollow beneath his boots. A stroke of luck? He grabbed the edge of the heavy weave and pulled it back about two metres. There in the thick parquetry flooring was a perfectly fitted trap door, a ring on one side for lifting. But he guessed by the look of the floor it would be quite heavy, even for his strength, which wasn't lacking. A nearby marine jumped to his aid when he motioned him over and between the two of them the door now stood open. "Give me a flurostick corporal."

"Sir." The marine unhitched his day pack and grabbed two from within.

Ted broke the both of them and dropped them into the black hole. As they hit the floor below with a soft thud, the pale green light illuminated a easy sloping stone stairway leading into a long passage. It did not smell stale, in fact he detected something familiar, "Was that an armoury?" He asked himself, because that particular odor was so much a part of his life. "Doctors..Sheppard, I think I've found something."

Ronon -- McKay

Ronon tried focusing on other things, besides the searing pain that was currently his left ear. It wasn't easy, especially not when the saline hit the wound like an avalanche, although he did sense Beckett's annoyance. Was it directed at him, or just their situation? Ronon didn't really know. He didn't make a sound throughout the Scot's ministrations (except for a few pained grunts when the saline hit him badly), and was quite relieved when it was all over.

"Thanks," he muttered softly, and prepared himself to go out hunting again. This time it was for Teyla, and Radek. Ronon stood a little woozy on the legs. It took him a while to find steady feet.

Rodney watched the struggle and didn't say a word, for which Ronon was grateful. He looked a little green, the Satedan saw. It was to be expected of him, this had probably not been pretty to watch if you weren't a medic.

McKay quietly followed the big guy out, still not entirely sure if Ronon was okay now. Still, Ronon at half his capabilities was a lot more than his own at full, Rodney knew that much. He caught Sheppard's eye and nodded in greeting/goodbye, hoping it wasn't to be the last sight of him.

Who knew what those Genii were capable of? What if they would get all four captured (once they reunited with Teyla and Radek), just like that? It bothered Rodney a lot.

"You're quiet," Ronon stated, looking sideways as they stealthily walked through a street.

"Am I, hmm, ah well, impending doom, you know," Rodney said cryptically.

Ronon just raised an eyebrow and kept walking.

He touched his comm. "Radek? Do you see us?" He couldn't see the little scientist anywhere, but he had to be close now.

"There!" Rodney said, pointing to something on the ground about a street and a half away. It was the launcher.

She tried to smile at everyone, tried to tell them she was going to be okay, that they didn't really need to fuss so much. She tried to get up, but a hand - probably Ronon's - stopped her from moving.

Rodney made some flippant remarks about how she wasn't, but she didn't really focus on his words.

Instead she looked at Radek, giving him a smile of thanks. There were no words, all her energy went into standing up, relying on Ronon for support.

Meanwhile, Ronon worked on getting her up, mindful of the injury. It went slowly, but he did manage to get her on her feet. It was not going to be easy, he knew that much. But first things first.

"McKay. Take Radek, the launcher, and get back to the town hall, I'll follow with Teyla."

The wound on Ronon's head was messy, but superficial, and needed a few stitches. Carson worked quickly, flooding it with saline to clear the worst of the detritus, and patched the Satedan up.

"It's a makeshift job," the Scot muttered, annoyed, as his handiwork was generally precise. "Try not to get hit on the head again, will ye, lad? I dinna like the paperwork that much.That goes for you, too, John."

Ronon's wound sorted, he could turn his attention to the other wounded. Those with more pressing injuries.

To John it seemed to have taken forever to climb the last three levels, something in his mind told him Todd ahd spoken to him, a delayed thought came back like a thud. "Yes...Todd, I'll cover you...." There was a door standing open at the top of the ladder, he could see the prone form of the Genii, Ronon had managed to take down. Laura was behind him as he placed his foot on the final step and Todd in front, through the opening there were two things that brightened his mood. A Bakun sniper rifle on a tripod and one Atlantis's own .50 calibre MG's, most likely one supplied on one of their earlier trips to Baku. "Todd, do you think you could handle that..." he pointed to the heavy machine gun as he leaned on the door frame, he wasn't doing to well. "....and Cadman, you've got the snipe, let's see what we can do."

He slumped against the wall for support, in the whirl of his mind, colours spun. "Ronon, McKay have you located Teyla?" he couldn't remember if they told him or not, he slid down theb wall with a thud, his hand limp around his P90.

Coming close to the Colonel and the Marine, she peered down into the descending stairs, the fluro sticks still showing their pale green colour. "An underground shelter do you think Colonel?"

"Most likely Captain, I think I should check it out, the Genii will be on us soon and we may need an out sooner rather than later."

"I agree. Hold on I'm coming with you." Moments later, with one of the wounded Marines weapons in hand, Anne followed the Colonel and Marine down the stone stairs. "Come on Radek, they're getting to close for comfort, we can make the Town Hall quicker this way." He ducked into the doorway and went straight towards the front of the building, only about six meters or so to cross the street and then up the laneway, they should make it, he looked over his shoulder to make sure Ronon was following, they only had minutes. Ronon was too busy to help with Teyla than to answer comms. He could tell the stress in Sheppard's voice though, apparently his friend was still having trouble with his injury. Ronon hoped the medics would help, as they would Teyla. They followed McKay and Zelenka, Ronon using the former two as shield when he could.

They finally reached the town hall.

Upon entering, Ronon looked for medics, and deposited Teyla gently on the floor, then went to sit by her side, until medical help arrived. He couldn't see Sheppard anywhere, nor Todd. Where was everyone?

Laura finished climbing the latter and got to a secure spot.
"I think I can handle it, Sir." She took her gun and kept an eye out. She looked over at Sheppard and saw him limp on the ground.
"Colonel!" She went over to him, he was unconcious. "Great."
The Colonel didn't look to good, blood was seeping through his wound and as Laura bent to feel his forehead, he was burning. Possibly fever, they had to get out of here soon. She straightened and joined the big Wraith by the parapet, the large sniper rifle still sitting on it's tripod, she ignored the two bodies laying nearby and checked the magazine, five rounds still, and three more magazines ready on the ledge. She sighted the scope and scanned the outer edges of the town and then gasped. Through the lens she saw the three remaining APC's, but it was the rear one that gave her pause. The others had only what might be light 30mm canon on their tops, but it was this last one, it was tracked rather than wheeled and carried what could only be the Bakun version of a nine inch mortar. If they could not at least take that one out, they could all say goodbye. She looked over the edge and saw the last stragglers enter the Town hall. Mckay and Doctor Zelenka carrying an RPG and rounds for it. She looked at Todd. "Don't do anything just yet." She asked him. "McKay, this is Laura Cadman. I'm in the clock tower. Can you and Doctor Zelenka get that RPG up here asap please." Her voice carried the urgency for her and she hoped they would be quick. They only had after all, five levels to reach her.

Ronon moved aside so the Scot could check her over, but it was hard to do. Teyla meant a lot to him. He hovered in the background, unsure of what to do or where to go, so he just stayed put.

Teyla was glad Ronon stayed. She looked up at Beckett as the doctor started speaking, and did his examination of the stomach. She drew a pained breath as he touched the wound there. The bullet had made an entry and an exit hole, very close together. It would heal in time, luckily nothing major was hit, although had the Genii been *a little* more accurate, her liver would've needed surgery.

She tried focusing on the questions, and answered them as best she could. Her voice was softer than usual, strained with pain now that the adrenaline of moving around had worn off.

"Teyla. Emmagan. We are... on Baku. Town hall. I.... hurt." It was obvious, but all she could really muster right there. Her colour turned a little paler. Ronon sat crouched beside her, and looked at Beckett.

"Need any more supplies, I can go get them." The Satedan stated, just needing something to do, although sitting here with his best friend, was just fine too, even though he wouldn't really admit that.

Getting them down the short flight of steps shouldn't be a problem, her hopes soared just a little. She hadn't noticed before, but the borrowed rifle she carried also had a torch attached to it, she turned the end and bright white shone in front of her. In moments they reached the iron door, there was a round handle like a wheel, the young Marine turned it and as the inner airs escaped, there was a freshness. From somewhere remote, this must lead to another exit. As they went further in, Anne found a side door and opened it, her eyes widened as she saw what could only be a generator, a naquada powered one at that. Laura looked at the Wraith that was standing guard. She didn't like him very much, but she had to trust him, for Sheppard's sake.
"Todd, you see that big vehical with the Genii comander in it? I'm gonna shoot him. Just keep watch."
She didn't wait for the Wraith to respond and took position. She aimed her rifle, pulled back the bolt, took a deep breath, held it, and squeezed the trigger slowly. {Lt Colonel John Sheppard}

Somewhere in the back of his mind John heard the crack of a sharpshooter rifle, the pain in his leg intensifed and his eyes opened, he felt his leg, it was wet and he was sweating profusely, a good sign. He looked up and saw Mckay standing near Cadman and Todd. "Rodney help me up."

"Sheppard you're ok?"

"No Rodney I've been shot, now help me up damnit!"

"Is that a good idea?"

"No but are you and Radek going to fire that RPG? Or Laura, or Todd?"

"Um, ok." McKay stepped away from the wall and gave John his arm, with a grunt he was up, shakily but up."

Once he was at the wall he could see what had happened, in the distance a heavy APC stood still with a grey dressed figure slumped over the turret, he looked at Laura who was still aiming the sniper weapon. "Good shot Lieutenant, that has to be 1500 metres." When that crossed his mind he had doubts. Back home a RP-7 is good for maybe 900, but this was not home and the technology a little different, he could only try.

With a little effort he lifted the weapon and loaded a round into the chamber. He hefted it onto his shoulder and let out a groan, the other APC's were turning toward the tower and would soon rain 30mm shells onto them, he had to take the chance. Sighting the crease between the turret and the hull and raising a little higher, he squeezed the trigger. With a thud and a whooosh, the RPG left the muzzle and streaked toward the mortar carrier. Disappointment was about to swell in his heart when he saw the round dropping in it's trajectory.

******************

At the end of the town, a Genii APC captain looked over in shock as he heard the crack of a single rifle shot and the captain of the 'Heavy' fall with a hole through his head. he ordered his own vehicle to turn toward the only source, the clock tower. Then an eruption right next to him as one of the naquada enhanced RPG rounds landed between him and the other commanderless APC. His body sagged as the complete top half was torn from him.

**********

A little success, "damn" better than he thought. Ignoring his pain John loaded the second last round and aimed a little higher. This time the round slammed into the exposed tracks on the right side of the vehicle. It stopped dead. "Right, I'm done. Todd you want to keep those guys down with that MG." He could see perahps thirty or more Genii closing in and he knew one more APC was out there somewhere.
"Cadman shoot at anyone down there." With that he released the weapon and slid down the wall again, pain almost making him scream.

As more humans arrived in the tower Todd felt the air around him become infused with their attitudes towards him and his presence there.

Sensing Zelenka's nervousness he had to admit this scientist had done a good job hauling the weapon the humans called an RPG up the tower. Perhaps he had been a little too hasty to dismiss this one as useless in a combat situation.

Cadman's attitude and distrust were a different matter altogether though. While distrust was not unusual, Todd did pause to consider how long he could remain silent as she threw casual orders in his direction.

But his thoughts were interrupted yet again by another instruction aimed in his direction. He glanced down at Sheppard out of the corner of his eye, noting the beads of sweat and the pain etched into the human's face but knowing that his help would be refused except as a last resort. "I believe I am capable of keeping 'those guys down' for you Sheppard." He grunted as he moved swiftly to take-up a position that looked down over the Genii vehicles.

Lifting the MG he fired off several practice rounds and managed to take down two Genii in the process. A quick smiled crossed his face as he huffed quietly. This weapon might be primitive and unwieldly but it was also effective.

Ronon's question was answered for him as the shots sounded throughout the building. They came from up above, and Ronon realised this could only mean one thing; they had secured the clock tower and were using it as defence point.
He guessed that was where Todd and Sheppard were, and probably McKay and Zelenka as well. It was going to be cramped, and he wasn't sure what he could do there anyway. He'd only be in the way, not having anything substantial to help shoot with.

He cast one more worried glance at Teyla, still being tended to by Beckett. Her eyes were closed, she'd probably fallen unconscious during Beckett's ministrations.

He wandered down the hall, and soon came to an open door, that led into a passageway, apparently. Curious, Ronon walked onward, and soon came upon Hasluck and MacGregor. She looked a lot better than last he'd seen her. Completely healed, apparently, Todd's doing. It still felt bitter in his mouth, that the Wraith had this kind of power. It wasn't natural.

Danny Levitz stood there looking at the generator for some moments, he was no geek but he knew the grid and systems back on Atlantis well. Having spent months following Doctor Zelenka around taught him a lot. He was about to speak when the large Satedan came in.

"Need any help?"

Perhaps he didn't notice the small marine or chose not to, but he decided to speak up anyway. "Ronon! Well I'm not sure, Colonel and Doctor I think I can work this, with your permssion?"

The Colonel nodded, he was out of ideas and no one had responded to his coms, it was likely the walls down here were shileded if this was some kind of shelter. "Go ahead Corporal." He placed his hands on his hips.

Taking a short walk around the machinery, following the cables and conduits, until finally with the aid of his torch he traced the main lead up the wall and into a power board. He prised open the cover which revealed a complex set of switches, labled in Bakun numerals, which were almost identical to Ancient.

"It's a sequence puzzle, like a code." He said softly. "Ten switches, one to zero, but they are randomly placed, I think knowing the Ancients love of order, it will be in pairs."

"Are you sure?" Ted asked as he stepped closer to the panel. "I don't think it would be that easy son, look here a circle marked with some figures, it may be more than that."

Danny squinted in the light. "You're right sir, twenty two over seven, it's Pi" He flipped the swithces in order like a code. Three, one, four, one off, six. Suddenly a hum filled the confined space, the generator came to life and lights came on everywhere. "Ok.... that worked."

Teyla nodded back at Carson's question, currently she was too much in pain to speak. She only knew they had to move. Fast. Finding unknown strength, she managed to stay upright and, what's more, walk. Beckett's support meant a lot, and she cast him a grateful glance. And she actually found the energy to smile at Zelenka's comment, as true as it was.

Ronon let out an angry growl and was about to run after Todd, but since he was still carrying the unconscious Sheppard, he couldn't. So he gritted his teeth and moved onward, wondering how he'd gotten himself into this mess. And how were they going to get out of it? He had no idea...

{Captain Doctor Anne MacGregor} {Colonel Ted Hasluck} NPC

Doing a quick head count Anne made sure everyone was below. The young Marine Corporal had find several other sizable rooms, even a small medical facility and most pleasing of all, it was fully stocked. One other interesting room was an armoury, filled mostly with light weapons but useful nonetheless. But possibly the most useful thing they found was a Ring platform, something of a rarity in the Pegasus galaxy Anne was told when they found it.

All the wounded were made comfortable and Anne conferred with Carson on John Sheppard's condition, at the moment he needed the most attention and plasma, he'd lost a lot of blood. He was conscious now but one concern weighed heavily on the Captain's mind, she turned to a young marine nearby. "We need to lock down this place, but I'm afraid that whoever shuts that first trapdoor, will have to find another way out."

Ted Hasluck heard Anne's words and came close. "Captain, what you're asking is basically a suicide mission, that or capture."

"Yes Colonel."

"Then I'll do it, I know Baku fairly well. If I can sealed the both doors I might be able to make it to the north woods. And I suspect two things."

"What are they?"

He leaned in close to her. "One Captain, these tunnels will most likely lead north as well, and two, with that ring platform, if the Apollo returns, that will be your most likely exit."

Worry creased Anne's face, she didn't like it, but with John out of action, Hasluck and herself were the two most senior officers. "Very well Ted, but you shouldn't go alone."

"No I'm aware but I'll not order anyone." He turned towards the passage outside and called. "Heads up people, I need one volunteer, someone who can run and carry and this may well be a one way mission."

{Todd}

As his anger subsided Todd’s pace slowed until finally he stopped and turned to look back along the tunnel. Taking a deep breath he pushed the last shreds of annoyance back on the being who was now irritating him the most - himself. His response to the Satedan had been entirely inappropriate given the commitment he had made to work with these humans on this mission. Their trust would only be gained by cooperating with their strategies, not allowing his dislike of one of their company to dominate his responses.

There was nothing to do now but go back and at the very least bring some of the humans with him on this scouting foray. Flexing his hands to relieve some of the tension that was starting to control his body, he began to retrace his steps. This time he looked more carefully at the rooms he had passed and noticed that each seemed to be equipped for just such a situation as they now found themselves. A couple of marines passed him, allowing him a wide berth and throwing more looks of distrust in his direction. But ahead he sensed a familiar presence, Doctor MacGregor, the female he had just brought back from the brink of death so he headed in her direction.

She was speaking with a male, obviously a commander but not one Todd recognised, and her face was a mask of worry and concern. "Very well Ted, but you shouldn't go alone."

"No I'm aware but I'll not order anyone." Todd watched as this new commander looked in his direction but did not appear to see him. "Heads up people, I need one volunteer, someone who can run and carry and this may well be a one way mission."

Sensing the conflicting feelings of the marines who stood around him, Todd knew immediately what he had to do, both to help salvage this mission and restore his own sense of honour. “I will accompany you Colonel, I like to think I can run and carry at the same time and I’d also like to think we can avoid making this a one-way mission.”

Laura's team had been searching the tunnels for some time, at least where they were now, the thunder of the Genii guns were a distant echoing thud. They had found many rooms and side tunnels in their exploration, it was a maze, but they had the sense to mark their path as they went, using their combat knives to gouge lines in the limestone walls. After almost an hour and winding around a myriad of detours and false paths, Joe came running back covered in dirt. He had gone ahead while Laura and Sandy searched a rather wonderful library. "I found it boss, another four hundred metres due north along that last main tunnel we were in." He wiped his face with a sleeve, which earned a stern look from Sandra. "It exits in the forest, I guess about three kilomtres north east of the town, on a hill. There's another large sealed cavern, a heavy door....which was no sweat and fresh air." His tanned Asian features curled into the happiest face he could achieve.

"Three? Sh*t that going to take a while to get the wounded out there...even longer through this maze I would think. Lieutenant...?" Sandra couldn't look as happy as her friend, no matter how good the news, there was still the danger of the Genii finding them even in the hills. They really needed a rescue package right now.

It was obvious they all doubted Hasluck’s wisdom in choosing a Wraith as his partner on this mission and he briefly wondered if someone, the clone Beckett perhaps, would challenge this decision but they remained silent so after a quick sweep of the room he followed the colonel out of the door.

As they fell into step together, Todd turned his mind to his new 'partner'. It was unusual to be in the company of one who did not generate fear or distrust in his presence so after only a couple of steps he felt compelled to ask the obvious question. “Despite the obvious concerns of your troops and the fact that we have not met before, you seem quite relaxed about working with a Wraith Colonel.” He turned his head slightly to examine the Colonel’s profile. “Why?”

{Major Evan Lorne}
{Lt. Lyall Benedict}

Evan gave Keller a small smile and gestured towards the seat next to him, the Marines and Lieutenant Benedict filing in behind the doctor and taking up their seats, Lyall behind the Major and the Sergeant next to him.

Thinking the rear hatch shut, the soft sound of hydraulics hissing closed informing him that it had been done, Evan tapped a few keys on the dashboard between him and the co-pilot seat, initiating the gate dialing sequence.
The Jumper's low hum raised an octave as the automatic systems kicked in and the Ancient ship lowered through the opening bay door into the Gateroom.
"Don't worry sir. We'll bring them all home." The Major's voice was confident, not because he was just that sure of himself, but because he trusted his people and had no intention whatsoever of leaving anyone behind on that planet.

The light of the Event Horizon shone as bright as ever, lighting the whole shuttle and casting them in blue hues, giving off an underwater feel, just before the Jumper slipped through the Gate and stars flew on all sides.

The ride through the gate would never bore Lyall, the whole rush past stars and planets kicking his adrenaline level up a peg before a flash of light gave momentary blindness and they all found themselves on an alien planet. Which wasn't so hard to do in Pegasus.

Peering around the Major's chair, he could see forests surrounded the ring platform, stretching on for miles on all ends. It was always strange how a planet in another galaxy could look so much like Earth.
And somewhere down there, the Jumper hovering low over the tree tops, his team, his friends were waiting to be rescued.

Evan let his eyes roam over the view once, before reaching for his radio "Colonel Sheppard, this is Major Lorne. What's your location?" He brought a screen up on the HUD, life signs blinking here and there, nothing telling him which were humans or animals, friends or foes "Think you can point us in their general direction Doc?"

Up the stone stairs and into the jumble of the rapidly failing Town Hall structure. Pounding outside, told him, the Genii were trying penetrate the solid six inch thick iron doors. His marines had sealed as best as they could. He stopped and waited a moment for Todd before they would close the trapdoor, though he had a marine help him before, he could have done it alone, the door wieghed at least half a ton. "Ten years ago.." He lowered his voice. "I crashed a helicopter, badly. I wasn't supposed to live. Then some wizard scientist in the Military asked if would be willing to undergo some...surgery." He peeled back his sleeve, took out his utility knife and sliced through his flesh. What he showed the Wraith, no other this side of the Galaxy had seen, and he was placing his trust in this Alien. Beneath the 'skin' were metal rods, artificial veins, and tiny servos. "I'm probably seventy percent cyborg, if that has any meaning to you, trust is all I ask." He pulled the skin back, pressed it in, and seemingly it fused itself again. Finally he lifted the trapdoor with ease and let it shut with a dull thud, he pulled the carpet back over and turned toward the north eastern corner of the building. "This way...."

With a single thought and a soft hum, the Jumper shimmered in the sky, disappearing under it's cloak as it sped up and headed to what the Major hoped was their people.
His eyebrows furrowed slightly at Keller's obvious anxiety, not that he could blame her "I'm going as fast as I can Doc, don-" He was cut off as his radio crackled a second before a familiar voice came through "Sergeant O 'Reilly, good to hear from you. His team wouldn't go down without blowing up half the planet, of that he was sure, but he still couldn't help the worry and anxiety he'd had since he'd first been called on for this mission.
Now he'd heard that they were still breathing, he felt lighter, more at ease and more pumped to kick some ass. Lyall had never liked the Genii from the start, so no lost friendship there.
He was also kind of glad that the Major had told them he was there too, let them know that he was coming for them.
"Damn eager, sir." He grinned, sitting on the edge of his chair, as if waiting for them to land before he jumped out.

"Major what ever you do, don't go into Baku, the place is crawling with renegade Genii and they have armour sir." Sandra replied desperately.

Joe cautiuosly went outside and got a bearing on their location, he saw the smoke rising from the town.

"It's Joe Kazuki sir, you wouldn't have Lieutenant Benedict with you by any chance? In the short distance, Evan could see a pillar of smoke, rising from what had to be the village. From what he'd heard, it was a nice village, friendly people, decent food. Seeing it like this just made him frown. Renegade or not, as a military force, it was your job to protect innocents, not go about ruining their lives. Hearing that the Genii had armour didn't do much for his mood either.
"Roger that, we'll keep our air till you lot can find us a decent LZ. Lieutenant Benedict is sitting right behind me, Kazuki. I think he missed you guys." Lorne spared a glance behind him, to see that Lyall was grinning, before turning his eyes back to the village now situated below the Jumper.

The town was quite large, houses all over with a few fields here and there. If he looked closely, Evan could make out Genii troops running around.
Doing his best to stay out of the smoke, should it give their position away, he clicked his radio again "Anyone have an estimate on the Genii troops? And how come Colonel Sheppard hasn't responded to my call?" He wasn't exactly sure which bothered him the most, his missing CO, or the renegades.
Atleast with the latter, if it became too much for them, they could always request more back-up, or just hold out till the Apollo got here.
Evan just wasn't much up for the idea of him being Commanding Officer of Atlantis, should the worst have happened to Sheppard.

"Ye forget that you're injured too." A small hand on his arm made the doctor look down, and he frowned at Teyla. "You're in not much better condition."

"I am well enough, Carson," Teyla reassured him, although her face looked pinched, wan. "I believe I can assist some of those worse off than myself, so where do you want me to start?"

{Colonel Ted Hasluck}

Ted looked over at the Wraith, his smile more of us grimmace. "Because, like me, you're an outcast. Oh they tolerate me, the few who know. But believe me when I say, I'm not quite as human as I should be." He moved forward with a speed only Todd could keep pace with.

{Todd}

For the first time in Todd's very long life, the easy manner he usually commanded when dealing with humans deserted him. The term cyborg meant little, so the Colonel was right in that respect, but the evidence before his eyes triggered memories of the only other form of artificial human life he had ever dealt with, the abominations that had wreaked such havoc against wraith not once but twice. The sound of the Genii activity outside retreated to the back of his mind as he watched Hasluck pull the carpet back over the trap door and considered both this unexpected turn of events and the subsequent request for trust.

A wry smile crossed his face as he finally spoke. “Humans see wraith as devious and dishonourable so I appreciate your confidence that I am indeed capable of trust. I must admit that your revelation brings to mind those wretched artificial beings that wraith and humans recently worked together to destroy. But you are no Replicator and I sense it was not an easy decision to reveal your secret to me so rest assured,” he started to follow Hasluck through the rubble left from the Genii shelling, “if we make it out of here you have my word I will not speak of this to others.”

<Baku streets Northward>

Todd and Ted had managed to get through a partially collapsed doorway to the laneway facing North. With fortune smiling upon them, not seconds after they were through, the entire structure on that side fell, sealing the ground floor completely. Tedd looked back for a moment, the remainder of the building below seemed still intact and there was no evidence that the underground system was adversly affected. He shrugged and moved on, turning this way and that keeping low. Looking at the Wraith's face he could see both the questions and the reassurance he gave him. "Thanks, I would be grateful. Only three people of Atlantis know about my...history. Sheppard of course, Doctor Keller had to be told naturally and Colonel Davidson on the Apollo. I'd like to keep it that way." The sounds of wheeled and tracked armour drew closer, Ted wasn't conerned about the Atlantis people now, the Genii would hopefully assume they were all dead under the broken ruin of the Town Hall. The gunfire had stopped and the twin suns began their descent into twilight, the best time for a hunter. "We'll lay the claymores about here, between these two alley ways. They have motion sensors on them and will give us three minutes before they're fully active." Suiting his words, Ted showed Todd how to face the charge and set the detonator, five in all were laid about. "Now we can move Northward my big friend." he showed his teeth,a smile, maybe."I can survive most things, but if they start laying heavy shells our way, well we can say good-bye at that point."

He simply gave Carson a small roll of the eyes as the doctor remarked on it, and instead focused on Sheppard, knowing the Colonel needed an update on things.

"Okay. Uh. Colonel Hasluck and Todd are out, scouting. That's all I can tell you for certain about our people. Where you are, well, it's still the tunnels. Apparently this place works like a bunker or something, filled with everything you could need to survive a long time here. There's probably food and water as well, somewhere, though we haven't found any yet. There's a ring platform though, and a power generator. And this hospital room."

Ronon didn't really know exactly how a ring platform worked, since the Pegasus galaxy didn't really have a lot of them.
From what he'd learned of the SGC files, however, he knew they were Ancient in origin and were used a lot by the Goa'uld back in the Milky way galaxy.

Teyla looked on, sat next to Sheppard. Her legs dangled down the bed, and she looked ready to go do whatever John told her (although her face still looked pained). Underneath her torn shirt ((she's decent :P)), her belly was bandaged tightly, though the bandages looked clear.

Evan listened as Keller pleaded, his eyes not straying from the HUD, his face as impassive as he could keep it.
He wanted to help, to go down, take out those damn Genii with a few drones and pile every injured man, woman and child on board and ship them back out to Atlantis.
But Lorne was a soldier, he followed orders and mission directives and truthfully, his people mattered more to him than strangers.

The moment he'd been assigned this mission, he planned on helping the natives as much as possible, but he wouldn't risk his men.
"I'm sorry Doc, but we can't risk setting down in town. If we get caught or killed, you'll be of no help to anyone." He sent Keller a look that was somewhat apologetic and mostly definitive, it was his final decision and he'd hear no more about it.

His com came to life again, Kazuki's voice coming in loud and clear.
"Roger Sergeant, we'll touchdown in a few." Lorne found the news that Sheppard was just unreachable, not dead or captured, although he also found it a shame as it meant that they'd not be able to plan a coordinated attack unless he actually found his CO.
Also, this meant that there were probably more people underground, which in itself was good news. Perhaps all expedition members had taken refuge and no dangerous rescue mission would be needed.
Atleast, no more dangerous than what he was doing now.

Guiding the Jumper to Kazuki's position, Evan grimaced slightly at the news of the opposition's numbers and vehicles. The Genii always had to overdo things.
Setting the craft down gently, a few meters from Kazuki, Evan glanced over his shoulder at the Marines, already on their feet "Grab the Doc's equipment."
At his thought, a small panel on his left popped open, revealing a life signs detector that he quickly pocketed as he got up.

Lyall had stood up the moment they went into descent, grabbing one of Keller's bags as the Major ordered and opening the hatch once the Jumper had properly landed.
The smell of fresh air, grass and flowers met him as he stepped out, his face breaking out into a grin as he met eyes with Kazuki "Couldn't manage without me, huh Joe?"

Evan was the last to leave the Jumper, making sure everything they needed was taken before closing the hatch. He wanted to leave a couple men behind to guard the Jumper, but if a patrol came by, assisted by a tank or APC, they wouldn't stand much. Besides, from what he'd gathered, they'd need every man and woman they had.
He'd just have to trust the cloak to do it's job.
"Sergeant." Evan nodded his head at the man, his hands resting on his P-90 as his eyes drifted around the area, purely by habit, before gesturing to the Sergeant to lead the way "Lets move."
