    <Baku>

    Two shadowy figures ducked in and out of the tree line, small and fast, they headed back to the caves, inside small voices could be heard. The first slightly larger one hushed them. "Shhh, they Lantean's are coming this way."

    "Well that's good isn't it Rolf?" A smirl girl said.

    He shrugged. "I dunno. Maybe, maybe not. But I sawed a Wraith with em' that can't be good." Rolf said. Sadness creased his eyes. There were fifteen of them, children of Baku. Herded quickly into the caves by a quick thinking woodcutter when the first ships appeared above the town. Fifteen children saved by the fact they had been playing in the woods, the oldest Rolf was no more than twelve.

    ((OOC, plot bunny, see what you can do with this))

        {Lt. Colonel John Sheppard} {Carson Beckett} NPC

        "Right Rodney, go left....quietly. Doctor Beckett, head back to the jumper dail the gate and check in with Atlantis. Tell them we have possible contact."

        "Do you want me to come back to you Colonel Sheppard?" Carson said as he started back to the jumper.

        "No I'll contact you when we've found something. Move out Rodney, I'll take right." John crept into the thick woods, keeping well to the tree cove, all the while making sure Mckay was in sight.

Still intrigued by her request that he act as her escort on this part of the mission he watched her out of the corner of his eye and was immediately drawn to the look of intent interest on her face as she surveyed the surrounding scenery. "This village is very different from the type of settlements you are familiar with in your own galaxy I assume?" he asked in a matter of fact tone of voice.

          {Captain/Doctor Anne MacGregor}

          Anne looked askance at her alien companion, she had to think for a moment if there might be a hidden agenda to his question. Satisfying herself that there wasn't she answered him. "The only thing I can put mind mind on Todd," She said as they headed in a northerly direction. "..is photographs from my parents era." She reached inside her jacket and withdrew a slim lady's wallet. Opening it she showed him a picture of her parents in their youth, circa 1940 with the City of Sydney as a backdrop. "That and some cities and towns in what we call the old Soviet empire. There is still a lot of older looking places like this on Earth." She looked ahead, something gleaming in the distance caught her attention, like a mirror glinting in the sun, but out in the open not two hundred meters toward what might have been a Town hall. Pointing that way. "We should check that out I think." She shouldered the rifle and went onwards.

            {Dr. Jennifer Keller}

            The search in the cottage revealed zip, and Jennifer decided to go out of the building through the back entrance. It lead to a small garden, one that had been tended well before the occupants of the village disappeared, and she went out into the rows of neat vegetables, looking at the crop. If nothing else, some of this would be a welcome addition to the diet of Atlantis, as it was a pity to let them go to waste.

            Excitement seized her, and she clicked her com. "Colonel, I think there are survivors..." Crouching, Keller reached her hand out and picked up the husk of a fruit, a freshly eaten husk, with undeniably human teeth marks in what remained of its flesh. "At least one, maybe more," she added, as a few more remains became visible now she knew what she looked for. "Children, probably."

                {Ronon}
                - {Teyla}

                "I think we've seen what we could, here," Ronon said. The forest was quiet around them, only sounds they heard were bird songs.

                Teyla turned from her careful navigating through a tree-logged and leafed path, and looked at him. "What do you mean?"

                "There's no one living here now. All the tracks I see are weeks old. Nothing fresh except animals." A crack on a branch made him look in that direction. Ronon only saw a running deer-like creature's behind, its bushy tail dancing in the sunlight. Soon it was gone, disappeared into the dense forest.

                "So where would they go, if there are still survivors?"

                "Don't know. The hills, maybe. There's caves."

                "Let's head over there then."

                "Tell Sheppard first."

                "I was about to." Teyla clicked her radio. "Colonel, this is Teyla. We have found no fresh tracks in the forest, it does not look like anyone has been through here recently. Ronon says we ought to check the hills out. Do you agree? Over."

                  {Dr. Jennifer Keller}

                  "Will do." Jennifer switched off her radio, and left the garden, tracking dirt into the quiet cottage on its polished wooden floor. She headed for Zelenka, who was still busy with his equipment and caught his attention. "There may be a few survivors, Radek, so I'm going to check with Carson at the jumper and confirm he's notified Atlantis."

                  Not waiting for a response, she shouldered her pack and moved back along the way they'd come. The birdsong assailed her senses, and she felt bouyed by the knowledge there could be something worthwhile to come from this expedition. In the near distance, she could see Beckett at the entrance to the jumper and she hurried towards him.

                  ((OOC Were ya referring to me, PJ? Cos, I'll be glad to NPC Carson, if you want me to?))

                    "Teyla, Ronon. There are more caves to your north by east, Swing by Doctor MacGregor and see how she's doin first, then move onto the other caves." John had memorised the area from previous visits and didn't want to leave anything to chance. He crept further up the slope and as he moved toward a rather large Beech looking tree a crack rang out and the zing of a bullet whizzing over in Rodney's direction. "Mckay down, someone has a bead on us one hundred metres straight up."

                    "Got it Sheppard, the bugger almost got me." Rodney said as he began checking his body for holes.

                    "Crack." Another shot rang out.

                    "Sounds like a bolt action, one of the rifles the local militia use."

                    "I don't care what kind it is." Rodney moaned. "We need to tell them we're friendly."

                    "Agreed."

                      Drawing much closer to the object, Anne stopped in her tracks and held up her hand, she could see from this distance it was like the sun shining off glass, a pair of binoculars perhaps. She looked at Todd and nodded towards her right, indicating a sheltered shop awning, from where they might themselves observe a possible observer. She checked herself for remembering to have her own small binoculars in her packed, well she hoped she did. She whispered softly. "Todd, over there, but walk normally, we're not in a hurry."

                      In the distance a shot rang out, echoing throughout the wooded valley, Anne put it out of her mind for the moment, as the potential for them to be boxed in was highly likely. "Colonel Sheppard, this is Anne MacGregor. We may have someone watching us." She relayed quietly on her coms

                        {Dr. Jennifer Keller} - {Dr. Carson Beckett}

                        Almost as she made the small clearing where the jumper sat, Jennifer heard the unmistakable crack of a weapon, and she spun on her heel, eyes wide with fright, the worst scenario playing through her mind. Stock still, she stared up the path, frozen to the spot. Then, shaking her fear to the recesses of her mind, she clicked her com. "Colonel... John... are you OK?"

                        A soft brogue interrupted her, as Carson joined her. "What the bloody hell was that?"

                        "Gunshot..."

                        "Aye," the Scot agreed, and set off back to the village square, his shoulders set with determination.

                        Jennifer ran after him, her pack banging her back. "Carson... did you contact Atlantis?"

                        "That I did, love," Beckett said, "and they're standing by." His pace didn't slow as he spoke, and he added, "But first things first, Jennifer, lass. We could have injured up there."

                          {Lt. Colonel John Sheppard} {Rodney Mckay} NPC

                          Keeping well behind the over large tree, John got on his knees and went prone, he reached for his monocular and scanned the hillside above. There at the entrance he saw what could only be a young boy of no more than twelve taking a bead on Mckay's position with a rifle not unlike the carbines used in the early part of the 20th century. He kept his voice low, checking to see Mckay had taken cover, which he had, crouching down behind a fallen log. John heard the reports coming in. "Doctor MacGregor, confirm. I have a damned kid here trying to have target practice with us." He was on an open channel, so the rest of the teams could hear him. "Jennifer, if you and Carson kept to my left, straight up north and west from your position, you'll be covered. We need someone to talk with this kid, and you know what me and Rodney are like with kids...over."

                          Bang! Another shot rang loud, and echoed around the still forest. Bird life fled and the sounds of scampering small animals could be heard.

                          Mckay glanced over the log and another shot was fired. It took a large piece of bark from his log. "He almost got me."

                          "Keep your head down then Rodney."

                              "C'mon Carson," Jennifer said, and headed away from him, anxious to get the children as soon as possible, mostly because Rodney's inability was legend, and she wanted to calm the situation not add to it. "If those kids are as scared as I think they are, then they're going to be trigger happy."

                              "As long as they get the message we're on their side, poor bairns," Carson murmured, his blue gaze softening with concern.

                              They headed north and west as suggested, scrambling up the slight incline and through the woods that backed on to the village.
