R.I.P. ubiquitous character actor Maury Chaykin

Character actor Maury Chaykin, a familiar face known equally for volatile comic performances in stuff from WarGames to Entourage as for playing the titular detective in A&E’s A Nero Wolfe Story, died earlier today. Today was also his 61st birthday.

This may be insensitive to the dead but I have no idea who this is.

I was wondering why there wasn't a thread for this earlier.

This is indeed sad.

I remember him best from Whale Music (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111687/), a fabulous movie if you ever get a chance to see it.

My condolences go out to his family.

RIP

61 is far too young to die. I remember him best as Nero Wolfe, even though I never watched the show regularly.

Other than Stargate, I remember him best from "The Art of War" which he did with Wesley Snipes. Shame really, 61 is young and it's always sad to see someone who we've enjoyed seeing on screen die.

Very sad. By chance I was watching Beachhead today. Recognised him from lots of other things, but I liked Nerus.

Noooo!
Nerus was awesome :(. From what I could tell, he was a great actor :(. 61 is very young. I know people approaching that age that have more energy than a puppy!

For those that are classic movie buffs like me, he also played Sam Tipton, the witness with the non-prescription reading glasses in the film "My Cousin Vinney".

R.I.P. Maury Chaykin with condolences and respect to family and friends. :sam59:

I couldn't help it, when I found this out I cried and when I saw the tribute to him in the "In Memoriam" section of the Oscars, I bawled like a baby. He was so absolutely hilarious as Nerus and he will always be the detective character Nero Wolfe to me. Maury, we love you so much and will so miss you.

You know it is a tribute when 5 years later we are still mourning him. Mr. Chaykin was one of a kind.
