You know the rules people. If you want to talk about events that happen during the airing of Sabotage post them here instead of the Pre-Air thread

As if it wasnt bad enough that they were gonna be without gate travel for weeks (or months)... now they're gonna fall short!? It never rains but it pours!!

J-Whitt Remastered
May 7th, 2010, 06:06 PM
So if the ship knows there's not enough power to cross the void why isn't it going to make another pitstop? When I know my car is low on gas I don't try to drive a 13 mile bridge with no gas stations. I pull over and fill up my tank. Stupid Ancients!

CCA

Young didn't want to say there was no way of helping Scott, Eli, and Chole, its like its weighing heavily on him even though its not his fault. He needs a hug.

Why didn't destiny just fly into another star before going into the void? What a dumb ship.

My first time in the live post too! So we can't get across the gap between galaxies? We're screwed. and a future young beard i guess?

Gallienus
May 7th, 2010, 06:07 PM
I don't usually post to these live chats, but the bit where Destiny was shown leaving the galaxy. I couldn't help but notice that the galaxy they left behind looked alot like a real life galaxy, namely the Sombrero Galaxy, otherwise known as Messier 104. You can look it up on wikipedia and see a picture and stuff. I wonder if the resemblance is intentional or just incidental? Considering M104 is 30 million light years away, I'm leaning in the latter direction.

Kaiphantom
May 7th, 2010, 06:08 PM
The ship crossed galaxies before, but it didn't have a human crew to provide power for, and it can't quite hold the charge it used to. Also, distance between galaxies can vary by quite a bit.

Rhoswen
May 7th, 2010, 06:34 PM
Chloe, Scott, and Eli probably tripped an alarm when they were back in the crashed spaceship, and the aliens simply followed their signals through the gates to the last planet they were on.

Hmm, the aliens are on the planet they just came from. Also Eli's comment "lucky we aren't still there or they would have a remote" - it all seems a bit convenient.

They probably tracked them; they saw what part of the downed ships database Eli accessed, realized the planet they were going to, and followed them there. However, since they were behind, they arrived just too late to nab the three of them.

Why does there need to be? They were on the edge of the gate network and dialed in...?

Because we didnt see them dial in. If they devoted 5 minutes of the episode to them still lost and alone then bam destiny pops back up on the little dial device then they go dial back. Then people wouldn't want an explanation lol

Didn't the previews show the aliens coming through the gate? That didn't happen in this episode...

A season 1.5 preview supposedly showed aliens coming through the gate (unless it turns out to be someone's dream/nightmare/hallucination or something like that), but the preview for this episode didn't actually show aliens coming through the gate, just the alien spaceships.

Wow this episode sucked. Really bad. I thought it was going to be bad, and it was, but not for the same reasons.

1. Sharon/Camille went no where. Way to go TPTB for screwing up another great story with the stones

2. The team just pops through the gate smiling like nothing bad happened. WTH How did that happen

3. We got to see no aliens, very little battle scenes, and no shooting or action.

This sucked so bad. I really can't believe they were this dumb. Worst episode since life. Makes Human look like the coolest hour of television to grace the TV.

Totally awesome setup when Franklin got in the chair; the light didn't come on before when Rush was in it, not to mention that they didn't show anyone activate the chair for Franklin. What if it was an ancient helping Franklin out, kinda like Oma Desala with Daniel, to work the chair? Just something to think about.. it's gonna drive me crazy now trying to find out what exactly happened to Franklin.. heh

Considering that the only thing for the aliens to shoot at was the kino, I don't see what else there could have been. They were getting ready to send some people back to the planet to gather some resources. No one was there yet.

I'm not a television critic so perhaps I'm not able to fully express myself here, but I felt like this episode was a disjointed mess. Bringing the missing three back immediately was just exactly the massive cop-out I was afraid of. I too was hoping for some kind of twist, and who knows, we might still get it. The Wray back story was not interesting and didn't really reveal much more about her than what was already known. There's a huge action build up that goes absolutely nowhere, and this time there's likely to be no payoff or resolution at all. The only thing I liked was seeing a bit more of who Rush is/was.

For me, this was the weakest episode of the whole first season, thus far. I do, of course, hold out hope that there's some brilliant writing going on that will save the threads from this episode at some later date, we'll just have to wait and see.

2. It mustn't have been that long since Destiny jumped

1. True True, I thought it was great to see that dynamic, but was it worth slowing down the plot and eating up screentime like that. No. And when Camille taunted Sharon with "You can do better than that". It went from seeing Sharon and Camille caring for each other, to a Lesbian kiss just to please the male audience. Not cool TPTB, not cool

2. Still, I thought they were strangely happy and it wasn't fully explained considering rush said they're chance to recover the team had already gone

3. I disagree. Also, please realize im not an SGU hating troll. I have been excited about the show from the day it was greenlit and spent at least an hour a day leading up to the premier on GW looking up spoilers/interviews and discussing SGU. So far it has been great. It has not let me down up till no, but recently, it has gone downhill a tad starting with human, and then with sabotage.(Lost was great though). Plot lines are classhing and for human and sabotage the two plots have clashed and stolen time from each other. SGU is starting to go downhill. Fortunately I believe SGU will go back uphill with the next four episodes, I just believe it had a dip in its quality.

I liked this episode. Some pretty cool things happened, imo. I had wanted Franklin's actions to be more of an offensive before they jumped, but it makes complete sense that he just went to jumping into FTL right away and assuring they could make it through the void. Just my selfish love for space battles, :P.

Cool episode though. Less action-packed than last week but that's not a problem. We got some cool character insights in return. For example, I really enjoyed the character of Perry and the corresponding moments of Wray back on Earth. Wray really has deep love for Sharon. She stayed in Perry's body for 3 weeks straight! I don't know about you, but that would have been terrifying and hard to go through if it were me. And we got to see Franklin come back for a bit! And I wonder what happened to him?

And will the aliens follow them through the void? That'd be very interesting. Maybe there is something behind their chasing the Destiny like they are. Even more interesting, if they are a more long-running alien presence in SGU, that would mean that Chloe's residual knowledge of them will be of use too!

Lots of interesting insights in this episode, and I look forward to the future. :D

Worst episode since... 'eh... too much hyperbole. I'm already tired. Actually I didn't find it all that bad, I just thought I'd continue on with the overreaction.

This was a bit of a missed opportunity for me. It had flashes of being something and then fizzled.

The Eli/Chloe/Scott reappearance actually COULD have worked (unless there's something going on we don't know about) really well if they had explicitly shown that the aliens had something to do with the gate opening. So as it stands, either we don't know why they got back OR we do know why but they just left that thread dangling for us to figure out. Then again, there could be something else going on there. The thing is, *I* don't actually mind dangling story threads that much, but outside of Lost, most series don't seem to be able to get away with them.

I wasn't sure where they were going with the Camille story. I'm not seeing how either charecter is different or changed by these events.

James moved a bit as a charecter so props to that. Also Ming Na was absolutely brilliant in the scene where she's talking to Eli. I laughed extremely hard watching her that upbeat. Brody's still was a nice touch, but I hope he doesn't just turn into a generic bartender.

The drama between Rush and Amanda was very well done. The last scene in the stone room was enough to get you a little teary eyed. I have to give props to the writers for how powerful they made this scene.

As I said the eps was more plot than character and that was a good thing, imo. They did not get dragged into long character moments. They were short and to the point and very powerful.

Maybe I'm inferring too much, but this is how I thought of it:

Eli (and Rush) assumed that once the Destiny entered FTL it would stay in FTL until it reached the new galaxy. As we know in SGU (and previous SG), you cannot connect to a gate when the ship is traveling at light (or FTL) speeds. Therefore, once the Destiny abruptly dropped out of FTL, they were able to re-dial the Destiny as it wasn't too far away anymore.

I guess what we're supposed to assume is that they hadn't gotten too far out of the void yet, and that the only block to them dialing the Destiny from the planet was the fact that it was in FTL.

Does that make sense? :S

Ok for those not liking me mentioning the failings of sabotage ill list the positives.

1. Loved the opening sequence. Felt depressing and very human. I really liked it. It set a great mood for the episode

2. Liked Perrys character and rush turning perry down. It was supprising. I didnt think Rush would turn it down. It was great to see a bit more insight into his character. Im actually starting to like him.

3. TJ and Young interaction were great. Wonderful acting

4. I was supprised by the aliens on the planet. Excited to see where that goes. They aren't giving up on the destiny. And it looks like they too have intergalactic cababilites. Interesting. :)

5. Montage was beyond awesome. Brody makes me lol. MOONSHINE!!

I thought that too; it most likely is incidental. However I'm inclined to think that it was intentional since, in Atlantis, Pegasus is a galaxy in the local group about 3 million lights from the milky way. There is in fact 2 galaxies in the local group named Pegasus; one of which is at roughly the distance stated in the show.

I'm not sure what there is to figure out about how Eli/Chloe/Scott gating back to Destiny. It was explained in the episode: When Destiny fell out of FTL, the device Eli was using to track Destiny's signal indicated that Destiny could be dialed (and therefore had dropped back out of FTL), so Eli knew to dial Destiny. The aliens indirectly helped the 3 get back to Destiny, because sabotaging the drive caused Destiny to drop out of FTL so that Eli/Chloe/Scott could gate back, but the aliens' main mission was to capture Destiny. Their plan would have worked if not for Franklin.

Yes, that certainly makes sense Coronach, it's just the drama critic part of me that doesn't like to see unresolved issues that you're ambigious about whether they've been resolved or not.

On first runthrough of this episode, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to know why they were back or not. When I watch it again, I'll probably be more sure. Maybe that's a flaw in me, but I just didn't "get it" the first time I saw it. But just remember, anything *I* don't get, which is someone who knows Stargate and Sci-Fi, is something someone new to the show DEFINITELY won't get. That's why I think it wasn't handled very well.

If it hasn't been resolved, everything will be ok. But I hope it's not your explanation, because if it is then I'd simply agree that it seems convenient. If the aliens had had a direct hand in it, THAT would have seemed manipulative and not really convenient. Or if they had found their way back through being away an episode or two and figuring something else, also not convenient. But if it was just being knocked out of FTL, then it was cooincidental to sabotage... and I'm thinking, "Well it's a good thing those aliens blew up your FTL drive, isn't it?"

Or at least not completely your explanation. Your explanation works better for me if the aliens plant something on one of the three returning. Now, they're return isn't just random luck. It's a little darker.

um, no; I wasn't saying that you cared about the kiss on the forehead - you obviously didn't. and that was the entire point of me bringing it up, a kiss on the forehead is not much - and the "replacement", the thing deemed "better", was a kiss on the lips. how is that a problem? It's called being human, it is more than natural for any couple to desire their lovers embrace - particularly in cases of elongated seperation, such as this.

Rush previously going inside the crashed alien ship caused the aliens to come and investigate, and they captured him. So, it's logical that Eli/Chloe/Scott entering the alien ship again triggered that same alarm and the aliens then simply followed their trail to Destiny (Scott was worried enough about aliens showing up that he limited their time in the alien ship to 15 minutes; Chloe was also worried about the aliens coming after them). The aliens tracked Eli/Chloe/Scott. It wasn't random luck that the aliens showed up on that planet and disabled the FTL drive via James.

Noticed different things about Eli in this episode:
What is with Eli all of a sudden not like being called "Math Boy"?
Listening to music and reading a book while sitting on the floor. I haven't noticed that in earlier episodes. He is always on a computer console, documenting with a Kino or spying on everyone for Young.
Team in gate room going back to the planet for supplies and checking for possible living conditions: Greer says that there is water east of the gate according to Lt. Scott but Eli says it is a waste of time and starts to make a comment about the military. Just seemed a bit out of the norm.

Someone said earlier that because of the lack of excitement with the three returning back to Destiny that it meant they are clones. Though I think that is a stretch there is more to that over night stay than we are meant to know at this time. The third wheel comment by Eli probably means that Scott and Chloe made up especially when you see Chloe's reaction when she looks back at Scott.
