Sam Worthington to join 'Dan Dare'?

Sam Worthington has been in talks to join an untitled film based on the Dan Dare comic, according to Empire Online.

The screen adaptation, which centres around Frank Hampson's 1950s hero, will be modernised by comics writer Garth Ennis. Richard Branson’s Virgin Comics purchased the rights to the character two years ago and Warner Bros is currently searching for a screenwriter to pen the script.

Worthington would play Dan Dare, a chief pilot on the Interplanet Space Fleet.

This would mark the first feature film adaptation of the comic, which has been dramatised previously for radio and television.

Worthington confirms 'Dan Dare' involvement

Sam Worthington has confirmed rumours that he is to appear in a film based on the Dan Dare comic.

Speaking to MTV, the Avatar star revealed that the upcoming movie will take its inspiration from the recent reboot of the character by comic writer Garth Ennis.

"I'm at that stage now where I want to do movies where I get my $16 (£10.60) worth... Something like Dan Dare, there was something in the reboot by [Garth] that was amazing," he said.

The 33-year-old did not unveil any details about his character in the project, but Worthington is expected to play Dan Dare, a chief pilot on the Interplanet Space Fleet
