Ring Out The Old - The Best Television of 2004

    Posted by S_Wiebe on 2004/12/31 23:22:38

In what has been one of the most interesting year’s of television, ever, more new scripted series supplanted the old reliables in both quality and ratings. ABC struck gold with ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Lost’, UPN finally got a series with ‘Buffy-like’ buzz in ‘Veronica Mars’, and even FOX managed to eke out a timeslot for a quality series, ‘House, M.D.’ in a schedule otherwise overbalanced in the reality direction. Here then are best of 2004 [and a few suggestions for US programmers looking for more of the good stuff…]

Honorable Mention [in alphabetical order]: [Note: SGA was one of five mentioned...)

Stargate: Atlantis – though ‘Stargate: SG-1’ is still quite entertaining, ‘Atlantis’, with its one-way trip, cool new villains and civilian commander, has done something few spin-offs ever achieve: it is both the same as, and entirely different from its parent show. The writing seems more alive than recent ‘SG-1’ efforts, probably because there’s a new group of characters to explore. Technically, the series is as adroit as ‘SG-1’, and the cast seems to be really enjoying themselves.

    ********

Ouch...And Stargate SG-1 isn't on the top ten list.

That House show on Fox will be canned, that's a given.

Atlantis is the same and different. I mean Teal'c is on the show, but he's a she. And Jack is on the show and is younger and his name is different. lol
It’s the show that doesn’t end, it goes on and on my friends, some people started watching not knowing what it was, but they will be watching forever just because it’s the show that doesn’t end…..

Lost is number 1. Yay! I'm still amazed that I love a show that's both popular with the critics and doing well in the ratings. Who would have figured.

Happy that Atlantis earned Honorable Mention - although so did Enterprise. I think they summed up SG-1 well enough.

This paragraph on "Lost" cracked me up...

Lost’ is a heady experience, and one that makes this reviewer eager for the inevitable DVD release so we can hear the commentary tracks. There’s that much going on that it is almost imperative to hear about what was going on in the minds of ‘Lust’s’ creators: J.J. Abrams [‘Alias’] and Damon Lindelof [‘Crossing Jordan’]. ‘Lost’ is a show of infinite jest and drama, as well as infinite complexity.

      Quite the Freudian typo there.......
