Sorry for not having anymore S5 or S6 S&J pix to share -- I’ve got many nice caps, but I haven’t scrubbed them up… (got lots of Jack in the photobucket folders… *grins* but it's the wrong thread for that!) I’ll have to finish scrubbing them up & post them sometime…

Great pictures, ShimmeringStar.

Something has been bothering me and I need some answers. In Window of Opportunity, the following conversation is held between Sam and Jack in regards to time travel:

SAM: It wouldn't be the first time we've seen something like this. The stargate did send us back to 1969.

JACK: Good year.

The way Jack smiles completely intrigues me...was there a particular reason he smiled so--to Sam? Was it just that he enjoyed the time travel experience, or what?

I'm not sure Sam and Jack ever got a free moment alone without the rest of the team or their 1969 friends hanging around... so I wouldn't think it referred to anything *ahem* happening between them while they were there....

Perhaps Jack was referring back to his teen years when he probably was having certain experiences for the first time?

Hmmm. That's true, it would be about the same time. How old is Sam supposed to be in the show? Could that have been the year she was born?? or is she that old (gee whiz...I'm older than that).

Yup, could be. I'll bet Jack was wild :D :p and unbelievably

Could also be that he enjoyed spending time with The Team *coughSamcough* in civvies, around the campfire, on the bus .... I seem to recall quite a lot of shippy moments in that ep.

Could be he also enjoyed cracking those Enterprise / Star Wars jokes and zatting Hammond :p

I believe she's supposed to be in her fairly late 30's, very close to 40 at this point (similar to the actress portraying her). I'm pretty sure she would have been a child nearing school age in '69.

Finally got hold of a copy of this month's Dreamwatch. There's no specific article on RDA, just an interview with Robert Cooper about SG-1 S9 and Atlantis S2. Here's the bits that count ........

Q: Can you clarify how much we'll be seeing of Richard Dean Anderson in the new season?

A: "Rick makes a cameo appearance in episodes one and three, and he's absolutely not gone for good. His character is very much alive in the Stargate universe. Rick just needs some time. he wants to drive his daughter to school every morning, and I understand that. He absolutely made sure that we were going to leave the door open for his return."

Then later on in the article ....

"Rick has been doing this a long time. He has a family in LA and the show is something he doesn't have to do any more to pay the rent. It's something that he has done out of loyalty to BW and myself and to the cast, crew and fans, and because he enjoys doing it."

Q: "Finally, how long can these two shows go on?"

A: "I think that having seen the chemistry of the new cast and the potential for stories that these new bad guys and the new concept for the series have created, SG-1 has legs. I think we could be looking at many, many more years if it continues to grow and be successful and people want to watch it. I don't think that this is the last season of SG-1 by any means and I think this seson may end the talk about a "last season"."

Despite using the word absolutely twice, we're still not dealing in aboslutes  but every indication is there. RCC is saying that RDA's intention is to be back.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO! The ship will still be sailing!! Just going to be anchored for a while in S9 while its sails get repaired. ;)

WAY COOL ARTICLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was hoping that RDA being the work a holic that he is would get bored of RL and feel the need to work again as Jack O'Neill.....and now there's hope!

Hey everyone--I'm new at being a shipper (didn't even know the word existed until now!) but i have just one question........has anyone noticed between the old and new episodes that some of the main characters (sam, teal'c) look like they've had some facelifts or botox??? It's really disturbing to me that Sam/AT could be sucked into the whole "hollywood" idea of beauty!! She's so pretty, and why would Jack want to be with someone filled with plastic!! :) anyone have any insight into this? thanks!! :)

I really don't think AT or CJ have had facelifts or botox... I think if anything you will notice that all the cast members have been working out a lot more over the past year or so. AT is much leaner in season eight than she has been in previous years, you can tell by her arms that she's been working out ( I know I have read that she has a personal trainer she works out with on the weekends) and CJ is a workout fiend gaining over 20lbs in muscle over one season break.. just look at the man's arms.

As for looking better, I think someone else posted this already but I really think it's due to better make up. AT's make-up has changed a great deal over the past eight years and I think they finally got it near perfection this past season as she looks great. As for CJ, I think part of what you may be noticing is the fact that he is not longer caked in gold makeup with dark eye make-up around the eyes any longer. He looks much younger and better without all that crap on his face. Now if they would just get rid of that tatoo on his forehead.

I was watching that last night and wondering the exact same thing. There's Jack's intriguing little smile as he says it, but there's Sam's very intriguing answering smile as she continues her sentence..... made me wonder what happened in the bus after lights out.

Then following that she goes and he's saying keep me informed etc.. he sounds so crest fallen. I was wondering if that was a bleed over from Divide & Conquer... dissappointment at restraints perhaps?

;)

Jack was acting way weird as Sam left. Definitely very melancholy and remorseful--I thought. I think Jack went through a period where he felt trapped just as Sam did. Except we saw her "giving up" or whatever in Grace. We just didn't see all the frustration with him as we did with Sam. It's a shame 'cause it would have made a good episode.

IMO I think there is some jealousy with some of the Cast and Crew regarding RDA.RDA is very popular and RDA has been able to carry the Show when it's Just RDA and a guest Star.IMO some of the Cast have had trouble carrying the Show without RDA.I really think some of the Cast and Crew will be very motivated to prove they can carry the Show with RDA.

IMO there should be a way to promote Season 9 without trashing RDA or any other Actors who were on the Show.IMO when some of the Cast finally do a decent Job carrying a episode without RDA then they can run there mouths. Some Cast members have had every chance to show they can carry on without RDA and IMO they failed. Why bring in BB if they could get the Job done without RDA?

I think we did see that some with him. After she started seeing Pete, I noticed that Jack's character seemed a little "flat" through the rest of S7 and into S8. At first, I thought Rick was just kinda bored with what he was doing. In retrospect (and after seeing Threads), I've decided that Jack was retreating into himself. He thought he was losing Sam, and he was becoming bitter about not being able to have the woman he loved, because the fate of the planet was more important than their individual/joint happiness. Anyway, that's what I've decided.

Agree or disagree?

It's a good thing.

It means the concept is still alive even though one of the leads involved is not there.

Plus later on he alleviates concerns of Sam maybe getting involved with someone else in Season 9....

Hello Joe,

I'm confused in previous answers you have mentioned that the resolution to S/J relation was obvious after S8.

For us shippers it is obvious that Sam and Jack are together specially after Threads and that that is how S9 will start.

So why a romantic interest for Sam?

Who said anything about a romantic interest for Sam in season 9?

Joe Mallozzi just posted this [The Fourth Horseman] That Sean Patrick Flannery will not be playing Orlin again in The Fourth Horseman I and II. Instead, the part will be played by Cameron Bright. And there's a very good reason Orlin's appearance has changed.

Does this mean no Orlin or just that the actor playing Orlin has changed.:S

I just happened by this posting on the Stargate SG-1 Solutions blog. I think they got it from Joe's blog, here on Gateworld. I'm not sure though. I'm a tad out of it (sick with a cold, ear infection & etc) & way behind on EVERYTHING, including the posts here. So if this was talked about earlier, sorry. I thought it a tad interesting & wanted to share w/ my fellow shippers :) ...

Mallozzi continued in his blog entry: “We cut Ex Deus Machina (Chris Judge did such a great job that I immediately went down to set after watching the Director’s cut and told him as much) and Paul cut Instinct [Stargate Atlantis episode] while I started beating out an outline for our next script (tentatively titled ”Convergence") that, if all goes as planned, may see the return of a much-loved, sorely-missed character.

Now, I'm wondering if the "much-loved, sorely-missed character" is Jack (RDA) :D ... Plus I find the tentative title interesting. To converge means (from the American Heritage Dictionary) "to tend or move toward a common point or result." Though the title (& episode) may have nothing to do w/ S/J, my little shippy heart would LOVE to believe in a "Convergence" of S/J ;) ... LOL... But, most likely, it has something to do w/ the Jaffa & the whole thing w/ the Ori (or whatever)... But it would be supper COOL  if the "much-loved, sorely-missed character" is Jack (RDA)! I miss him already & season 9 hasn't even started yet! :(

So... What do you guys think?

Season 9 Speculation.....

My sense was that they are talking about Fraiser...but that's just a guess based on other comments from previous posts on that thread...

Oh, I definitely agree that Jack seemed distracted and somewhat angry after Sam became interested in someone else. I only meant that we didn't get to see him dealing with his unhappiness at Sam's relationship as openly as we did Sam debating with herself on whether or not she should wait for Jack. His mood the rest of S7 and for most of S8 was much darker than we had seen before.

Finally some good News from TPTB in regards to JM comments about a Romantic interest for Sam.I think TPTB are smart enough to know the Sam character would be finished if Sam has a Boyfriend that is not Jack. Some People might like it but Sam and Jack are linked together and it's too late to change that fact.In regards to the much missed character I have a feeling it's Janet.I loved the Janet character but I rather have Jack.IMO it's becoming clear that we have not seen the last of RDA and Jack.I get the feeling RDA does not want Jack to be remembered for Moebius and a small guest spot in episodes 1 and 3 in Season 9.IMO Moebius left a Bad impression on RDA and many of the Fans.I really hope RDA will appear in some late Season 9 episodes. If not Season 10.I may have to start rooting for Season 9.If I knew RDA would be appearing in late Season 9 I may even have to watch some of the episodes. This is all speculation and I'am trying not to get my hopes up.

Needless to say that with the cast changes this year, any mention of a possible Jack-Sam relationship would be limited to off-screen allusions.

Hmmmm....is this a good thing? I can't decide.

It's a good thing.

It means the concept is still alive even though one of the leads involved is not there.

Plus later on he alleviates concerns of Sam maybe getting involved with someone else in Season 9....

Joe Mallozzi just posted this [The Fourth Horseman] That Sean Patrick Flannery will not be playing Orlin again in The Fourth Horseman I and II. Instead, the part will be played by Cameron Bright. And there's a very good reason Orlin's appearance has changed.

Does this mean no Orlin or just that the actor playing Orlin has changed.:S

i went and read joe's answers. ;)

One would hope not Majorsal... coz I watch SVU & that would qualify as plot fodder for that show. Of course Sam's been through the whole thing with mini!jack. God knows that warranted some exploration of her reaction, dear god that would be almost worse than him dying for her... lol.

;)

I've found all of Joe's current comments to be quite positive actually. Shows they haven't forgotten that they kinda tied Jack & Sam together at the end of 8 and allusions off screen.... I like that phrase... :D

On the other aspect For the return of a much loved character. My first thought was Janet, but then I started thinking maybe Jacob.... either way it'll be cool.

I know I'm a little late but I just had to respond and say that I totally agree with you. I always thought that the change in the Jack was related to Sam's relationship with Pete and not RDA's boredom. I saw it as Jack's anger at himself for not doing something about the way he felt about Sam sooner and a little bit at Sam for not seeing that he was still carrying a torch for her. He's always been emotionally challenged and has a very difficult time expressing his. And even though in D & C he agreed to keep what was SAID in that room, I don't think he meant to leave how they FELT there. I firmly believe that Jack so loves Sam. :D

In regards to Jack seeming "darker" after Sam was seeing Pete...

I TOTALY agree :D & think that one of the places it was most evident (IMO) was during the scene in Carter's lab, in Affinity (season 8), when she told O'Neill about Pete's proposal. :( It was like he was trying to play it off at 1st. Like he had no problem with it. Was even, in a way, arguing for her to accept the proposal (the whole dangers of going through the gate, having a family & working at the SGC conversation). But the way he handled the ring (IMO), seemed to show how uncomfortable he was with the whole thing. The way he snaped it shut, placed it on the table & nudged it away w/ his finger. It was like he was touching something loathsome to him... But, of course, that's just my take on the whole thing... :)

I not only agree with what he was trying to convey with his performance, but I found no fault with the O'Neil character thru all of season 8. The only time he really got intense was with anger or protecting his team. All other times he played the 'good ole boy' who just didn't get riled up. I loved every minute we had with Jack O'Neill in seaosn 8 and definately plan on buying season 8 on dvd. Season 9-that a big ???????

Great Sig SG-1Fanitin!!!

Actually, I didn't think Jack was flat. I think when he became General - RDA did play him a bit on the grumpy, overwhelmed side....but good 'ol Jack was still around trying to be objective about everything, including Sam - I think there were times when RDA played Jack's hurt to Sam, but most of the time, I think he was just being Jack or overwhelmed General Jack....

Just MHO....

girlgater Jack was acting way weird as Sam left.

Yeah - a Grace ep from Jack's POV would have been fantastic. Or even just a slightly longer scene with Teal'c where he actually says something about his feelings!

I thought Jack's character did undergo a change after Chimera and the elevator scene, but I didn't feel he was flat. I thought he was showing a lot of pent up emotion around Sam, especially in Lost City. Then came another D&C moment where they looked at each other and told everything they felt - and pushed it aside again to save the planet.

In S8 I thought Jack was maybe more hurting and trying to hide it rather than bitter, hence the retreating into himself (I definitely agree with that bit :p). Sam was still trying to convince herself that she was doing the right thing by being with Pete. The Affinity scene Jack found painful, hence the clunk of the ring box and the rather deliberate pushing away of it. It smacked to me of "I really can't deal with this". I think Jack thought that Pete was better for her - young, not emotionally battered, sunny disposition, "normal", and so couldn't be completely honest with her. That scene was so full of unspoken words neither of them wanted to acknowledge.

The scientist in me went to Gateworld's Lost City transcripts. Jack says Dolmata. I then went to Google and some Latin scholar types say that is typo. Jack said Dormata which is 'sleep.' He went to the stasis chamber to be in suspended animation until rescued by Thor. He 'slept.'

I like An Ancient's interpretation but I think it turns out to be 'sleep.' ;)

Having watched Lost City, he does say 'tu amata', which means... you guessed it.

And for reference, I recorded the sound, and ran it through a speech analyser, it said that it was 'tu amataa'. There you go.

Big, honkin' thank yous to all of you gals who sent in questions to JM. I think he enjoys replying to shippers. He seems nondefensive though vague. I feel hopeful when he uses words like "allusions" and his reference to Season 9 Sam's not having a new relationship implying beyond her relationship as it were with Jack. :D

Allusions? Mmmm!?! What might an allusion look like on the screen? ;)

I may change my signature now :) that I have reason to believe that TPTB are not entirely evil!!!

They are just probably half evil considering we won't see anything on screen and regarding the ship I don't think I'm too interested to have a line mentionned by Sam from time to time ..because deep down I will know it's TPTB's way of dangling the carrot in front of the shippers ..To be honest with me ...I like sci-fi yes big time ..but if there is ship ..I need to see it on screen ..I need the 2 characters to interact and mostly when it is part of the story line ...I'm not that keen on just a little line in passing to see how the other one ( character) is doing ..I find that a plot device more than anything else .
Shame that such a great show had to carry on for another year :( instead of leaving on a high note .

I guess we'll have to see for ourselves in July. I got more than I hoped for in Season 8 although it took almost to the end of the season to get as much as we did. I'm not quite ready to call it quits when JM's veiled comments lead my imagination to think TPTB will give us a little bit in Season 9. I am a hopeless romantic.

Catysg1

I 'm a hopeless romantic too ..My videos show that but I just gave up on the Sam and Jack ship ..As you said we will see but I don't have high hope of seeing or even hearing something romantic regarding the Sam and Jack ship in season 9 ..To me it looks like ..... it will be a little secret from TPTB .They may whisper it ..It could always come from Daniel's mouth right at the end of the finale episode saying that Sam and Jack have gone on their honeymoon .
This is perhaps what I will expect to see or hear now .I won't be happy that's for sure but I don't really care ..I think they (TPTB) have left it too long ..They dangled the carrots too many times and I got really bored so now I take what I got from Threads and I supppose this is the end ..Jack said "Always " and to me it means they are together forever and an item .
I would love to see more but I think we 'll see Nada ...It's done deal for TPTB ...and the new team is on and that is all what matters for them

I haven't quite given up hope. I do enjoy the action and adventure so that keeps me interested especially now that Ben Browder has joined the cast. I really liked Ben in Farscape. BTW I think the Farscape TPTB handled the UST and RST pretty well considering it was a 4 season show. When there was passion on Farscape it was great! :p :D

I totally agree with you, Oma. I think I yelled at the TV screen for Jack to say something and not let the moment go by, but you know how Jack is.

Boy, I leave for a day trip with the family and then have posts to catch up on. I love the shipper jello. It's something that I'm kinda surprised we didn't have already. Shipperberry is definitely my favorite.

I'm glad to hear that JM is hinting at "allusions." Here's hoping it means something significant.

I've also looked at the S2 publicity shots for SGA and am anxious for the S9 pub photos to come out for SG1. Although, it definitely won't be the same without RDA. It will also be interesting to see how they portray AT. I'm sure most of the emphasis will be on BB and CB.

Well, gotta run. Everyone take care and if you're in the US, have a safe and happy Memorial Day.

Wow! Why weren't my ears burning.....I've been away all day, and had no idea that one of my comments had generated so much great discussion! I'm so honored! What interesting thoughts on why Jack acted the way he did in S7 and S8! And what smart people frequent this thread!

Since I've unsubscribed to JM's thread, I had no idea that he had responded to another of my questions (proving my theory that if he said anything worth knowing, one of you would post it here). I probably posted that one three weeks or so ago. I must say I'm much more pleased with what he said this time. But I'm still riding high on what Oma-1 posted from RCC in the Dreamwatch article, so I'm really in the stratosphere now!

I want to quote so many people that it would take an entire page to do so, so I guess I won't. But I particularly enjoyed these two posts, especially Majorsal's sheer joy:

YIPPPEEEEE! :D

LMAO - again! Yep, no fear there Sal :p

Just goes to show how wound up we get when we see spoilers - and then how unfounded our fears were! I think our reactions are so predictable to tptb and they reel us (well, me anyway) in every time  Joe's answer to my question and TN's questions is just a case in point. Initially Joe's answers left some of us completely depressed or just plain http://bestsmileys.com/paranoid/1.gif, and now he's mentioned "allusions" (love the way that word sounds :p) we're all happy again :)

This fandom stuff's real rollercoaster *shakes head*. Wish I'd found it seasons ago :p

And this really had me laughing!

Methinks that Jack may have ad-libbed or something, after seeing the transcript, I ran it through the software again, and I listened hard, and got everyone in my house to listen hard.

The consensus is this;
Jack see's freeze chamber; Dormata
Jack in chair with Sam; Tu amata(a)
Jack about to be frozen; Aveo, amacus

I can see if I can get the actualy sounds and post them so we can all here, but the translations are (roughly, since my Latin is rusty);
1- Sleep
2- I love you (literally 'you, me loved')
3- Goodbye, beloved (second word sort of inferred, because its approximate but he's saying goodbye to his dear friends.

Well, there you go.

-Goes off to get sound files-

;-)

EDIT: When I get the files up you'll see, but if he said 'Dolmata' to Sam, then he needs Ancient lessons, the first vowel is most definitely an 'u' sound. not and 'o' sound.

I like what he said, and I agree with you about the future of our SHIP. As to what RCC said, that's more the tone I had hoped to hear from TPTB in talking about the new season!

I hate to say this and bring anybody down, but I get the feeling that we're being played, and played BIG TIME by RCC in this interview.

Think about it. The shippers have been PO'd in the past, especially by things he's said. So now, he comes up with this hearts-and-flowers interview where he gives us hope. But read between the lines: it's not telling us anything we didn't already know, and it shows no loyalty to writing or resolving the ship. It only deals with RDA and his *possible* return.

To me, this interview tells me they're finally starting to realize that they could be in trouble where losing audience is concerned and are desperate to get us back in front of the set. I sense no sincerity in this, only attempts at manipulation.

Sorry, just MO. Forgive what they've done to us this year in season 8 if you wish , but don't ever, ever forget. Personally, I'm sick of them thinking they can manipulate the shippers. :(

I agree, and I think it was compounded by the fact that he really, really, really hates riding a desk. The two things that made him happiest - Sam and going into the field - were taken from him at the same time. Add to that the fact that nobody seemed to be really caring if he was hurting from either event and you get a very depressed Jack. Think about it: did we ever once see a member of SG1 asking him if he was feeling overwelmed? Epecially in Zero Hour, for instance? They only seemed concerned with how things affected themselves.

When they were talking him into taking the position, they all promised they'd be there to help him, but I've sure seen little to none of it in S8. Maybe a bit with Teal'c . . .

Just MO, of course, but this is sort of a sore spot for me.

In response to the recent discussion, I'm not sure if IMOHO I'd say Jack was bitter. I think another spin that could be put on it was that he was doing the best he could to maintain a professional distance from all of his "family" (the SG1 team). Those frat regs that had kept him apart from Sam all those years applied equally to his friendships too. Some days it was easier for him to do it, other days not. (Like when he had to order the destruction of the ship Sam was in.)

I agree with your frustration over the R1 DVD's not being subtitled/closed captioned. Not just for non-English speakers, but for people who are hearing impaired. It's rather inconsiderate of them to not think of it this far. (And yes, I tried putting them in a DVD player with a TV that has CC turned on, and there's still no text.)

Yet the R2 DVD's have subtitles. Another "extra" they get that the Americans don't. I know JM said he has no control over the DVD's, but I wish somebody would come on here who does so we could talk to him/her.

I think I've got the name wrong) for SG info. Toward the back they were rating the latest DVD release and were giving a really big thumbs down to the extras on it (which were becoming non-existent in their eyes) and the reduction from 4 eps a DVD down to 3. (Now the lesser # of eps per DVD I can understand - they didn't film as many shows in S8 as they had in past years...)

For anybody who does music videos . . .

I heard this song on an old CD (is that an oxymoron?<g>) today on my return trip from MW and it just sounded like the perfect song for a "Jack" video - with a bit of ship thrown in. ;) (I'm sure you'll be able to figure out where ti goes. LOL) It is even sort of written from *our* perspective how I'm reading it!

The song is called Hero and it's by phil Collins and David Crosby, sung by David Crosby on his Thousand Roads CD. Here are the lyrics:

It was one of those great stories
that you can't put down at night
the hero knew what he had to do
and he wasn't afraid to fight
the villain goes to jail
while the hero goes free
I wish it were that simple for me

And the reason that she loved him
was the reason I loved him too
and he never wondered what was right or wrong
he just knew
he just knew

Shadow and shade mix together at dawn
by the time you catch them, simplicity's gone
so we sort through the pieces
my friends and I
searching through the arkness to find
the breaks in the sky

and the reason that she loved him
was the reason I loved him too
and he never wondered what was right or wrong
he just knew
he just knew

And we wonder, yes we wonder
how do you make sense of this?
when the hero kills the maiden
with his kiss
with his kiss

Well it was one of those great stories
that you can't put down at night
the hero knew what he had to do
and he wasn't afraid to fight
the villain goes to jail
while the hero goes free
I wish it were that simple for me
Were that simple for me.

If anybody decides to do a video for it, I'd love to see it!

Just watched the last scene of Lost City with the subtitles. In the chair after Sam calls him Jack, he works his jaw a few times but doesn't actually say anything (anybody lip-read ancient??), then he just says "Dormata". In the chamber he says "Aveo....amacuse". So I thought he doesn't declare his love for Sam :(

Then I checked out a Latin dictionary online - here's the refs I could find. I couldn't find the exact wording, but I'm assuming that's cos ancient is slightly different to Latin

Stem: dorm
dormio -ire [to sleep; to rest , be inactive].
dormito -are [to be sleepy , begin to sleep, nod; to dream, be lazy].
dormitorius -a -um [for sleeping].

ending: at
v *at 1 3s pr act ind : the X sees, he does see, she is seeing
v *at 2-5 3s pr act sub : he might see, he would be seeing.

ending: a
feminine

aveo (1) -ere [to long for , desire].
aveo (2) (haveo) -ere [to be well]; found only in imperat. and infin.; 'ave' , [hail! or farewell!].

Stem: amat
amator -oris m. [a lover , friend, admirer]; esp.[the lover of a woman].
amatorius -a -um [loving , amorous]; n. as subst. [a love philtre]. Adv. amatorie.
amatrix -icis f. [mistress , sweetheart].

Sooooooooo fellow shippers, let's pick the translation we like the most :p :D

In the chair

Sam: Jack!
Jack: I will dream of you....I will see you again.

In the chamber

(For Sam) Jack: I long for you, my lover.
(For D&T) Jack: Farewell, Friends.

Suddenly, I'm very happy this morning :D See how sly tptb are? Initially, we all think he's just saying, Sleep and Goodbye, but really its soooooo shippy :D

An Ancient - you deserve a great big helping of Purple Jello for starting this conversation!

Oh Hello!!!
"Get off the Stage!"
Guys have any of you seen the news item on the Leo Awards?
I know ive already said this on the Jack RDA thunk forum.
But who does Mr Cooper think he is kidding!
Oh yea Jack O'Neill may be alive & well in the Stargate Universe but by the looks of things The actor who portraded him is not!!!!!
This does not bide well for the future Shippers!!!!!!
Apparently RDA Acceptance speach was V.Long and he gave it in a swimming pool in Scuba gear while wearing a suit and it was used as a running gag for the show ( see Kates RDA site for Pics) So how come the
only mention of the award he won ( Best Actor) on Gateworld news is the fact that Michael Shanks was nominated for the award!!!!!
No disrespect to Mr Shanks He does not edit these sites and IMO was also as deversing for the award. But if this site is a approved site by the powers that me and the fact that they use it shows it is Where does that leave RDA if they don't even acknowldge the fact that he won an award for his part in the show!!!!!!!
Have I the wrong end of the stick????? Please somebody tell me I'm Wrong!

Wow, there has been some really good discussion this weekend. IMO, at first Jack was overwhelmed by the General postion. Probably working long hours and stacks of paper work. I also think the regs were more of a issue now. He is commander of the whole base and can't show bias to his friends so he puts distance between them. But unlike Hammond, Jack has no family to lean on, so he becomes a lonely man. He finally becomes confortable in his job, then the engagement hits him between the eyes. He sees the woman he loves slipping away. I really don't see the bitterness until Kerry comes into the picture. On a professsional level Jack and Sam are great, but as soon as it turns personal, Jack turns cold as ice. I think he is reminded that he is forced to move on with another woman, he likes, but doesn't love.

I'm feeling okay about it...I loved S1 and 2, and there was ship in both of them !!!Broca Divide!!! and obviously there's not going to be much ship if RDA's not there...I think Sam and Jack will have figured out where they're going, and they'll probably go slowly after all...going to fast straight into the HWMS may be damaging to their friendship

Season 9 speculation Remember: If Jack is Director of Homeworld Security as USAF or civilian, Sam is out of his direct chain of command. So, they could enter into a relationship. :D I'm gonna guess that there will be a *cough* "allusion" *cough*to a relationship of sorts between them. Perhaps they will temper their desire with the geographical break (Colorado/Washington, D.C.) while he settles into his new position and she works through her loss of her father and her break up with Pete. Not that Sam has second thoughts about Pete but maybe Jack being Jack fears a rebound. You know, gotta have some angst. Then, if all goes according to my desire, Jack will return to Season 10 and things will start cooking. :D ;)

Sorry, just MO. Forgive what they've done to us this year in season 8 if you wish , but don't ever, ever forget. Personally, I'm sick of them thinking they can manipulate the shippers. :(

OK, I'm waaaaaay behind here. Can someone provide a link to this interview? Thanks. :)

This weekend as I was getting out some DVD's, I came across an old TV Guide from the beginning of season 7 that had RDA and MS on the cover. In it, RCC was quoted as saying that one of the developments of s7 would be that

"Sam and Jack will get closer" followed by "Nudge, nudge" from the TV Guide writers.

Well, in s7 there were some definite shippy moments, but more significantly Sam decided to move on in Grace and we all know what happened in Chimera. At the end of s7 I felt that S/J were no closer than they had been the last couple of years.

Then s8 starts off as if nothing happened between S/J in s7, plus Sam gets engaged to  ! To me RCC's statement was false advertising. If he's saying positive things now, I'd take them with a grain of salt. :S

Toward the end of season 7, I thought they were getting closer. Then season 8 was approved. Instead of a kiss in the engine room we got a "I know" and him high-tailing it out of there. Season 8 is spent tearing them apart or acting like they barely know each other. Would have been better if they had left the kiss in, maybe Jack wouldn't have been so grumpy.

I've thought a lot about that interview too. I wondered if someone from TV Guide saw some previews (maybe Grace with the big hot imaginary kiss), and drew the wrong conclusion (that it was reality). Or, maybe that was TPTB's plan at the first of the season. Then, when they found out they were renewed for S8, they changed their minds. But in retrospect, yes, I agree that the interview seemed deceiving.

Ya Know....I just loved the US replay of the ep the other night....great the name is escaping me....where S/J are with Jacob....and Jack says - I distinctly recall someone saying we weren't going to make it out of this....and the ending to that whole scene is Jacob having the last word "What and give up the last chance I might ever have of being right?!" And Sam looks at Jack, walks by and says 'Welcome to MY LIFE.'

It was a great scene....a great way to break in a possible son-in-law! ;)

Hello Family!

I just watched Death Knell, again. Every time I watch it, I just have to rewatch that shippy scene at least twice. I am sure you all know which scene I am talking about ;)
The look in Jack's eyes and the softness of his voice is so passionate when he offers her to get up. After they both sit down, it looks like he is really trying to say something to her. He keeps on opening his mouth and holding himself back, until he finally offers for her to rest on his shoulder... Ohhh... so shippy... I have goosebumps :)

And I just love that Teal'c gets the ship. He just stands there giving them their privacy.

I wonder what they talked about after the camera panned out... It just looked like Jack was telling Sam something...

That is my favorite shippy moment. We are currently watching the S7 DVDs, can't wait to get to that ep. We just watched Lifeboat.YAWN.

How much better would S8 would be if they actually got Sam and Jack together after S7? IMO, it would have actually be enjoyable to watch. Could have done it if they wanted to. If there is a will, there is a way.

It was a great scene....a great way to break in a possible son-in-law! ;)

S

Heeee heeeee!! It's not just me!!! Yay!! I caught that bit a while back, and so I was watching for it when they replayed it last week.

I was really cracking up, though, when I realized it became something of a running gag through the end of the ep. A short time after the "last chance of being right" comment, Sam, Jack, and Dad are just got back from Apophis' bug-infested ship and Daniel comments that they were worried Sam & Jack weren't gonna make it.... Dad says "I didn't say it, though!" and Jack gives him this look that was just too funny!

Then, towards the very end, they're trying to outrun the exploding mothership and its SAM who yells out "Are we gonna make it?" and both Dad and Jack shoot her a "shut up about that already!" look that had me rolling! Watch close, it flies by!

Hello Shipper Family!!!I'm really sorry I haven't posted(trust me when I say really sorry) Ihaven't had time, what with schoola nd projects ans extra-curricular activities and....I've felt such a need for shipping,it feels great to be back.
Back to bussiness:Yesterday I saw Shades of Grey.I never realized that was a (@ least minorly) shippy episode.
Spoiler for Shades of Grey:

There's a part were Jack is heading towards Hammonds office and he meets up with Sam and they say:

Sam:Well, sir, with respect, you haven't exactly been acting like yourself.
Jack:No Carter.I haven't been acting like myself since I met you. Now,I'm acting like myself.

Is it just me or...was that quite a response? Eh,what do I know.I'm just gonna go get some blue jello and you guys tell me what you think.K?It was quite a response.

And it always bothered me that at the end of the episode, in the gateroom with the team standing there, that TPTB gave dialogue to Jack to say to Daniel to make up for the hurtful things he said him, but they didn't give any to him to apologize poublicly to Sam. (And his 'slights' to Daniel had been in the privacy of Jack's home... those to Sam had been at the SGC in front of Teal'c and at the steps up into the control room where many more people could see/hear what he had to say...) Although there was a look that Jack gave her... if you watch, before Jack says "Ummm Daniel about what I said..." Jack is looking to Daniel's right, where Sam was standing and his look to Sam (IMO) was one of 'I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything I said, forgive me?" But I've often wondered why TPTB didn't give dialogue for Jack to say to make amends with Sam (and if that was RDA inserting the sorrowful looks {and unsaid apology} that might not have been in the script).

BTW... no spoiler tags needed on episodes from seasons before 7 & 8.

I noticed the look too.Even my mom noticed it,and she doesn't even like SG1(me and my dad are working on her:so far so good-she may not like the show but she does love all the angst between Sam and Jack!)I completely agree and have wondered why TPTB didn't give him any dialogue. It was a tragic waste of ship*silently mourns* :( ...The look he gave Sam did cheer me up though :D

For the characters, that was a particularly hard time. Ole Potatohead    had just come into the picture. So, I'm sure Jack was uncertain what to say. He was still dealing with the fact that Sam was interested in another man.

Off camera, there are some cute screen caps from that ep that I think were in a "Lowdown". I have them at home, but not here at work. They show RDA and AT kissing and laughing and generally being affectionate.

If someone else has them saved to their desktop, could you put them up? If not, I will when I get home tonight.

Yesterday I saw Shades of Grey.I never realized that was a (@ least minorly) shippy episode.

I agree that it's shippy. It's an S3 acknowledgement from Jack that knowing Sam has made him a different person. Remember, the Jack O'Neill we met in the movie and S1 was sad, broken and depressed. Charlie's death and the breakup of his marriage had almost destroyed him. Only after starting to work with SG-1 did he start to rebuild his life.....and his relationships with Daniel, Teal'c and Sam (especially Sam!!!) were a big part of that.

Okay....too deep and serious for the middle of the day!

Hello Shippers...

For those of you who may not already know, thus far this year Amanda has won a Leo and a Saturn award for her performances this year as Sam on Stargate Sg-1. However she has also been nominated for a SyFy Genre Award. This particular award, unlike the other two are based upon fan voting and not that of her peers. The voting lasts for 30 days and each person can vote once a day. They are getting really close to the end of the voting process, but every vote counts in the end. So whether you have voted every day for 30 days or you just vote once, it's one step closer to Amanda winning the award.

I would truly love to see Amanda win three in a row. This would be our way of letting her know how much we loved her performance in Threads (even if the writers couldn't give us the resolution we really wanted). So if you haven't already done so, please take a moment out of your day to cast your vote for her.

http://www.syfyportal.com/genre-awards/2005/index.php

Thanks again,
Kat

That is my favorite shippy moment. We are currently watching the S7 DVDs, can't wait to get to that ep. We just watched Lifeboat.YAWN.

How much better would S8 would be if they actually got Sam and Jack together after S7? IMO, it would have actually be enjoyable to watch. Could have done it if they wanted to. If there is a will, there is a way.

Couldn't agree more. S7-8 spec/spoilThey could have had that little Lost City kiss in the ship instead of the angsty look, then  would have been history right at the beginning of S8 and all the shippers would have been much happier - even if tptb had still left S8 pretty scarce for ship and still finished with Threads being about Jacob and how they overcame the regs to be together. (That way I'd still have that lovely shippy picture for my sig. :p )

I love that ep too :D It's S5 opener ...... name's coming .........Enemies (knew I'd get there in the end :p )

I love those lines you mentioned, I like the scene where Sam & Jack are on the ship getting the drive crystals and Jack says to Sam

Jack: You know how to have a good time don't ya Carter
Sam: I'm having a good time now, Sir
Jack: You GO girl

Always makes me laugh - well, I'd be having a good time sneaking around dark corridors with Jack!

I was watching Urgo today with the kids (they go around singing Me me me me me me me me ..... ) and when Urgo told Teal'c "Try The Paddles" this jumped into my mind ....

Kat, I've been really happy to see AT winning awards this year, and I've voted for her everyday in SyFy. You GO Amanda! :p

The only thing that stuck in my throat for the SyFy awards was that Prometheus was the SG-1 nomination for best show. I certainly didn't think that ep was the best for S8 for storyline or performances (personally I'd have gone for Reckoning). Yes, it was a good ep, but it seemed to me to be a nomination for the 18-25 male demographic.....Course, shipwise, gotta be Threads :D

Watching Urgo today made me think about Upgrades/D&C - the link being Urgo's suggestions and the virus mind altering properties.

If I remember correctly, the virus basically lowered their self-control / inhibitions, hence the disregarding orders. I wondered if we would have had the look if it weren't for the virus from the armbands. I know the armbands had already fallen off, but wouldn't the effects linger for a while?

Just to play devil's advocate for mo ....I don't think Jack would have left Sam behind, but equally, without the effect of the armbands, would they have shared their feelings for each other with the look, or would they have kept it more professional?

During that scene in SoG at the end in the hall, I always thought that Sam had a bit of a smirk on her face, a knowing gleam in her eye, as if maybe she and Jack had already spoken quickly in private. Not anything too terribly romantic (much as I wish), but enough to make Sam smile again. Jack's sorrowful look seemed in answer to how Sam may have looked before that talk.

I never believed that they actually drew straws, either. I think Daniel was just teasing and that you couldn't have kept him from going. Daniel is the let's have a talk type. Teal'c doesn't seem like the diplomatic, let me help, type, and Sam would have been too upset. Just seems logical that Daniel would show up then give Jack the drawing straws story.

As I said, I don't think they really drew straws. But if they did and Sam was the one to choose the straw, I think Teal'c would have offered to go in her place. But had Sam actually gone, I think Jack would have trusted her enough to let spill, if not the whole thing, at least enough to let her know that all was not as it appeared. I honestly don't think he could have given her the same treatment he gave Daniel.

I'm not so sure - I'm kinda torn between Jack wanting to

a) protect her at all costs from any sort of threat from rogue NID. In which case, if Sam had turned up at his place, he couldn't let anything slip cos he wouldn't take the chance that Maybourne would find out and get to her. I mean, look how frantic he was in Desperate Measures.

b) not want to hurt her (like he did Daniel). We all know Jack has a soft centre and his feelings for Sam being so deep ....

OK. Decision time .... I think he probably wouldn't have let anything slip. His overriding concern would have been for Sam's safety. He would have relied on her Military professionalism to understand why he wouldn't tell her. Plus, hurting her feelings isn't fatal.

But I don't believe they drew straws either. Daniel's the talky-feely one of SG-1.

As I think more about it, I think there is a possibility that Sam may have guessed there was more to it. At the end she did not have the look of someone very surprised or shocked by what had happened. I don't think she would have gone to Jack herself for that reason.

Excellent point. She did kinda take it in her stride. Maybe once the shock of Jack's "retirement" wore off she realised that Jack would never steal from an ally and guessed it was some sort of blackops thing.

Sam: "Well, sir, with respect, you haven't exactly been acting like yourself.

Jack: "No, Carter, I haven't been acting like myself since I met you. Now, I'm acting like myself."

i felt it was one of those *famous* ambiguous statements, that could be taken as either 'i haven't been acting like myself because you stunt me', or, 'i haven't been acting like myself because you wow me'. i take it as the latter myself :D, but it was done ambiguously enough (dialog *and* acting) that a fan could take it either way. but since i knew how jack felt/thought about sam, i took it as shippy. ;)

I always took that line as Jack trying to say he had not been acting like himself since joining the SGC, that being "a by the rules guy" was not him. But his feelings for Sam made the words come out with more "personal" emotion that he had intended.

Hi Everyone:

Real life has been kicking my butt the last couple of days and I haven't had a chance to comment about the S7 Evolution Part 1 and 2 episodes:

I love it whenever Jack talks with Sam about their respective missions and to be careful. You can just see the love in his eyes and his concern for her welfare.

Also..when she returns and he's waiting for her, he comments something like "good command." She has to take it as a tremendous compliment coming from him on her leadership ability--and the love that goes along with it make it doubly special. ;)

Had to throw that out as I watched the episodes late last week.

Keep shipping!!

But his feelings for Sam made the words come out with more "personal" emotion that he had intended.MOHO is that like Sal's - you can put your own spin on it since it's one of those classic PTB ambiguous dialogue lines. I think even Sam wasn't sure which way to take it by the way she stood there after Jack bounded on up the control room steps, seeming to think - should I be hurt what he just said or not?

At face value (non-ship), he was saying that ever since he'd met Sam he'd been putting on an act - hiding a vengeful, nasty interior from her (and the others). And Sam (just like the rest of us) knew - uh-uh, this guy is Mr. Direct... No way could he have hid that for 3 years...

So then there's the shippy interpretation - that his relationship changed him; having known/been with Sam had made him change for the better. And potentially a signal to Sam (if she could pick up on it) that something was going on.

I guess one reason I was irritated that they didn't give Jack something to say (other than a look) at the end of SoG was that this ep was on the heels of A Hundred Days. Where Sam had obsessively worked on the particle beam accelerator non-stop for 3 months and, IMO, had finally been able to acknowledge that she had some serious feelings for Jack. So even if she had an idea that something was up, she also couldn't help by feeling a bit hurt (IMOHO). So a little follow-up at the end would have been great... but yes, I know... It would have been asking too much for a word or three.... y'know... :p

Here are the photos I promised you I'd post when I got home tonight. They're off-camera (AT & RDA horsing around) during the filming of Death Knell, and the kiss that didn't make it on air. I apologize in advance to whoever I lifted them from. I honestly don't remember, and when I do save shippy photos, it's just so I can go back and sigh over them, :p :o so no harm intended!

I just watched these 2 days ago!!! :D What a coincidence ;)

And I totally agree! There is so much love and passion there.

Both are going on dangerous missions. But most importantly, on separate missions, so they won't be able to watch each others' six. But they gotta do what they gotta do.

I think it was killing Jack to send Sam to possibly face Anubis without being there to help her. It's not that he doesn't trust her, it's just that he knows what Anubis is capable of. (I just ended that sentence with a preposition  :) ) But Daniel is also a valuable part of his team, so Jack has to get him back. I bet you in the scene where Jack is drinking beer and waiting for his contact to show up, he is actually thinking of Sam and where she is now. He just looks so deep in his thoughts, so concerned.
What do you guys think?

Jack would never have given up that quickly!

By reasoning out explanations that satisfy me somewhat to not having actual Sam and Jack moments, does not mean that I don't think many scenese deserved follow-up. Its just my way of coping with the lack there-of. :S

You're absolutely right. Jack was so solemn and deep in thought. I'm sure he was worried about Daniel and getting him back safely, but even more so you know he was thinking about Sam and what she was facing with Anubis. He couldn't even share those concerns with anyone (Brooks or whatever his name was). Jack had to hold all those feelings inside himself and concentrate on rescuing Daniel. What a pro. I guess both those missions were hard on Sam and Jack because they had to be independent of each other and know that they were on their own--even if the other was thinking about them.

Gateworld just posted an interview with RDA from Now Playing Magazine. In it, he talks about why he left SG-1 and whether he'll return. It's at:

http://www.gateworld.net/news/2005/06/andersononhisisg-1idepartu.shtml

He doesn't commit, but I think that's just RDA being snarky. I've thought about it ever since I heard about the Spacey Awards. I just don't think that a guy leaving the genre behind would let his acceptance speech (from a pool dressed in a suit) be the linear bit (running gag) for a big awards show. It just doesn't seem worth the effort. So I've chosen to believe he'll be back on our screens.......

How irritating of him. A simple "maybe" would have sufficed. He's just as bad as TPTB when it comes to leaving us hanging! :p

Back to ShipTalk...this has probably been discussed before, but if so, it bears repeating....

What, in your opinion, is the single shippiest moment out of all 8 seasons?

For me, it was the Heroes, Part II hug! The way Jack turns his face into Sam's neck is something that sends shivers up my spine every time I watch it! For all we know, he could be kissing her. :D And the way she sighs and closes her eyes, you know there's no place she'd rather be. Uh-huh. Ship's a-sailin', right there. :p

Would that be AU or RU? (Real universe) RU, it's probably the part in Divide and Conquer where Jack starts talking about his feelings for Carter and her feelings for him. True, no physical actions, but in that flashback scene, the heat was so intense, the force shield fluctuated. If that's not ship, I dunno what is.

Have to agree with D & C. The scene where he walks away and looks back at her, *sigh*, or as they gaze at each other through the force shield. Maybe because I've had those moments for so long to cherish and thats when I knew, absolutely, that there was ship, that episode, those moments, are my very favorite shippy moments.

My two cents worth:

No. 2: D&C when Jack looks into Sam's eyes "...a lot more than I'm supposed to." :p

No. 1: Threads Jack looks at Sam and says "Always," and she turns to him and meets his gaze. :p

These were real Sam and Jack moments. As close as we ever got to an admission of love and longing. :D

This is probably the one ep I really don't like and have a hard time watching because I can't believe that he would have given up so soon and so easily either. Especially since he's the one thats always saying that no one gets left behind. So how did he forget so soon that everyone on earth (Sam) would be trying to find any way they could think of to get him back :o . And why did he let that pushy woman lead him around like that :S ?

Sorry, end of rant. It's just that I really don't like that ep and can't get over the fact that the he was written so out of character and at the same time showing Sam realizing that she felt something for him! FCOL

OK, I'm finished now, really. :D

Hey, after 8 years we are experts at hanging!!! :p I'm just glad he might be back. That means that there might be some more visual ship!! :D

In answer to your question, I'm going with "Beneath the Surface" when Jonah and Thera reveal "feelings" and the intimate sharing of each other the scene exudes. At least that is my answer for today! :p

Well, RDA's not ruling out a return, so to me that means HOPE :) Been living on that for years with Sam & Jack, so a bit longer won't make much difference :p

My single shippiest moment is Lost City The final moments before Jack goes into stasis. Sam calls him Jack! Jack looks at Sam with such sorrow and love, Sam returns the look with despair and disbelief. Then the way Jack looks at Sam before the chamber activates, and her hand on the ice ..... still makes me tear up watching it.

Fortunately, I love angst :p and now I know what Jack actually said, rates it waaaaay up there on my shippy list ;)

That ep is verboten in my house! (you can get so much more expression with the german word :p) My son keeps complaining cos he hasn't seen that ep all the way through yet! If he has it on and I come in the room, he has to turn it off - I tell him to watch it when I'm not around. I can't control my language when that woman is on the screen! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. And that final scene is such a slap in the face for Sam - its not angst - its cruel.

Umm - sorry to anyone who likes that ep :sheepish look:

Edit: Verboten means fobidden ;)

As lots of you named D&C as your no 1 shippy moment (no 2 for me :) ) anyone want to take a stab at this? I'm really interested to hear your opinions (hence shamelessy plugging the question again :p )

Anyway, I have watched that ep, but can't stand the That Woman.

On a brighter, though slightly ansty (but not cruel-angsty) note. I have made my first ship vid!! It's on Yousendit and has a very long url which I'm to tired to put up now but I linked it earlier on page 56 of the music video thread and page 1233 on the RDA thunk thread so it should be easy to find. I love ship vids and feedback, and it'd be great to hear from the shipper-family on it :D

Heya!!!!!!

I watched Abyss yesterday, and found another shippy moment. When they realise that Kanan had returned to the fortress to get the lo'taur...it's Sam that figures it out...I think she thought back to Divide and Conquer and how Jack refused to leave her....I just got the image of the forcefield in my head when I saw the look of realisation on Sam's face...AW!

BTW - I don't care what ANY producers say...Sam and Jack ARE together!

Oh! The front page of my new webby's up...DON'T click on any of the links...those pages aren't up yet.

Re: Favorite Shippy Moment

Have to agree with D & C. The scene where he walks away and looks back at her, *sigh*

That's a tough question - but a fun one. :) This is the moment that first came to mind for me. I think it's because there's absoloutely no question as to the depth of his feelings. You can like someone or have a crush on them or just have the hots for them or whatever, but you don't volunteer to end your life as you know it unless you LOVE them more than life itself.

For me, that scene revealed even more than the "a lot more than I'm supposed to" scene. :)
