View Full Version : Eli's shirt (and why it crimps his style)

Eli and his nerd shirt...

Is it wrong that this is the umpteenth episode in a row, he's worn that same damn shirt? My god that thing must be starting to smell by now, specially since its been 3 weeks since Water... and probably a month since Air.

It is me, or does anyone else thing that, sure, Eli wasn't given real chance to pack in Air Part 1, but still, the dude needs to get something else to wear?! I'm starting to wonder if the Destiny lads are so possessive they won't lend the poor guy a spare shirt?

Any thoughts?

Well, he did actually aquire a pair of Jeans somewhere along the line. I would also like to see another shirt. He's like a freakin' cartoon character.

I'll have to re-watch the previous three episodes to confirm this, not that I doubt you, but more or less to confirm the observations for myself. Perhaps it is to demonstrate what you feel is representative of his "style". Maybe, similar to Rush he perhaps does not have enough time to delve in to such unproductive acts such as changing his clothing. Keep in mind, although it seems the various activities Eli does throughout the day are unimportant, they in fact are not. Colonel Young specifically has tasked him with recording those amongst them with Kinos in the form of a loyalty check and he is the praised "math boy".

Not at all to the detriment of his character, Eli is probably one of the best characters on SGU, but still, the lack of wardrobe is, as was previously said, turning him into a cartoon character.

He's Eli Wallace... not Charlie Brown...

Actually... *ponders* maybe he is... a little...

But nonetheless, Eli and Rush also, do seem to lack many changes of clothes on Destiny?

Eh, it doesn't bother me too much. Eli's character fits the kind of person who would do that.

He should've kept on the clothes the scientist changed into while in his body.

Uhh... I thought it was obvious... and also JM said it on his blog... Where the HELL are they going to get new clothes from? the military only took through some uniforms. Eli had almost nothing on him when he went though the gate. As far as i've noticed they ALL have the same clothes on. You've prolly only noticed Eli because his is big and red (no offece to DB).

Oh and i'm sure its not that hard to wash your shirt by hand once in a while. Personally, i would find the episode entitled "laundry" quite boring.

He should've kept on the clothes the scientist changed into while in his body.

Did you see those clothes? They are definitely not Eli. And they didn't really look like they would fit him... if you know what i mean?

Agreed that Eli needs a change of wardrobe...although it might be a joke on whomever takes over his body viz the communication stones. ;) Has anyone else noticed that Chloe takes advantage of Eli when Scott was either physically, professionally, or emotionally unavailable? Comments?

That last statement really requires its own thread in the SGU general discussion board.

But that's what best friends are for... right? you go to your partner before you go to anyone else.

From Joe Mallozzi's Blog

Ekko writes: “…will all characters change their clothing in the show?
Or will you try to make ‘em have same clothes all the time?”

Answer: They will wear whatever they brought with them. If they didn’t bring a change of clothing (which is highly likely) then they’ll be wearing the same outfit, occasionally borrowing appropriate off-world gear when available.

So Eli didn't bring a change of clothes with him, or else he would be wearing something different.

must save a ton on wardrobe costs

I'm a bit surprised at how many people don't appreciate why it is so logical that they have such a minimal wardrobe, no they weren't able to plunder their closets on Icarus when they had to abandon ship in mere minutes and no they can't bring along physical items by using the stones!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, I'm assuming they wash their clothes with the spray and wash thingy they use to shower. Now, as someone else pointed out, how do they remain so clean-shaven? Did someon grab a box of disposable razors from the Icarus base?

They're all wearing the same clothes they have been since "Air". The only person who's changed has been Chloe--out of the dress, and into the pantsuit she was wearing aboard the Hammond.

I'm kind of surprised that this even needs discussion. Have we already forgotten how it is they got to the ship?

When you travel there are essentials. and in most travel bags, razors are one of them. Not essential? Lets just say high humidity and a beard is not comfortable.

three seashells

You beat me to it!!!!

Since the Ancients were suppose to come on board Destiny before they changed their mind, Destiny should have everything they would need to take care of their needs. Just because we haven't seen toilets or washing machines doesn't mean they don't exist. We never saw anybody doing laundry on Atlantis either or McKay griping because the Maytags they brought from Earth weren't compatible with ancient tech and he had to go fix the conversion hook-up.

I'm pretty sure they are all wearing the clothes they came in. I doubt they were thinking much about packing a bag as the Icarus base was being blown to smithereens. They basically have what they were wearing when they jumped through the gate. Some of the scientists did have bags with them but Eli didn't bring anything with him that I know of. He was beamed out of his house and off they went.

I dunno what beef ppl have with Eli's shirt but it's a bit ridiculous. As stated by others these ppl evacuated. There was no time to go and grab clothes for an extensive period of time. Because they didn't know how long, far or even the place they where going.
To me this is also a fault of the writers. I Asked it before how long will we see these wearing these clothes. They are not going to waste water washing them

They had spare military uniforms Eli could fit into in Air 3, i'm surprised we havent seen him alternate, like wear his nerd shirt with military pants, or wear a military jacket instead of his hoodie. They can mix and match what little they have.

And if he was changing shirts every episode people would be complaining where the heck is he getting all these shirts from. Damned if you do damned if you don't seems to be the case.

Personally i'm fine with him only having the 1 shirt. I highly doubt a spare set of clothes was an important resource when they were evacuating. You can live with only 1 set of clothes you can't live with very little water and food supplies.

:sheppard:

Agreed. If somebody's clothes or uniform get shredded, I'm sure that's going to be addressed somehow. It's interesting how everybody's clothes seem to reflect who they are and their personality. We already have it with Eli and his interesting choice of clothing.

There's Chloe with her rather typical wardrobe for the attractive and fashionably inclined.

Then there's Volker with the neat sportscoat, vest, and slacks. He never seems to want to take off the vest too. He was wearing it for the Kinosodes he was in. He was wearing that even on the jungle planet. I would never have worn that in a tropical setting.

And then there's Rush. He's a scientist but his wardrobe is unique. It's rugged and informal, in direct contrast to all the other scientists. It's a setup I would perhaps wear on a very cold day near where I live.

I love Eli's shirt. I think, because this is sci-fi, that it's kinda funny that the shirt happens to be red though. Eli's the longest-surviving redshirt ever.

I've been assuming they'll eventually find other clothing, or the means to make more, or something. I mean, I can't see Eli still wearing that exact same shirt in season three.

I do think it might be amusing to see him get a hole in his shirt and have a mild freak-out over it. >_>

If he's still wearing it by season 3, that red shirt will be more ripe than an orange that's turned green. However, I can picture him freaking out over a big hole in his shirt and then wondering about a permanent replacement.

A few of us discussed a laundry themed show in another PG thread, and with one change of clothes it would not be boring ;)

Maybe they will crash land on a planet where Stacey and Clinton (from what not to wear) originate and the trees grow clothes?

And the there's the soldier's uniforms. God knows how much sweat they're building up in those uniforms.

Speaking of which...

...I saw a pair of pictures from the next episode. It looks like Lt. Scott will be leading the civilians in physical training. It also looks like everybody's got special Air Force PT gear and I saw Dr. Franklin having a bit of a hard time. This should be interesting. Volker's supposed to have a cool part in this as well.

Wow people are REALLY REALLY fixated on toilets. I don't wanna say people are ignorant but COME ON!!! Many countries have either done away with or a reducing toilet paper usage in restrooms. They use bidets or western toilets with sprayers built in.

It's quite likely that they clean their clothes in some way. It would make little sense to be able to wash your body an not your clothes. Do you put dirty sweaty clothes on after you shower?

Bidets for all!

And pray to whatever got you believe in that that water isn't getting recycled :S

Why not? You drink recycled water everyday. That tall glass of ice water you had might have been someone's pee 2 weeks ago. We know there is a plumbing system on the ship (behind the scenes showing dispensers up close and Rush's comments that it's a closed system). There may very well be a filtration system and the microbes got past it. It happens here on Earth. Often they can survive because of different filtration methods. This is why it's suggested you get immunized before traveingl to other countries.

If he has been washing his shirt, then they better drench it in creature venom. Otherwise the microbes from the water will eat the shirt up!! ;)

Depends on whether he was washing it in water. Also why would the microbes eat the shirt? Also TJ stated that some people might have a natural tolerance or immunity.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Rush has been wearing the same clothes in every episode too, hasn't he?

For that matter, I've not taken much notice, but everyone with an easily recognisable outfit hasn't changed.

I was under the impression that they didn't have any spare clothing with them. In the hasty evacuation, I figure clothing would be the last thing on people's minds.

That, of course, does raise some questions about the outfit the scientist rustled up whilst in Eli's body. Plothole? Aliens did it?
