SG1_SPOILME - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sg1_spoilme/ first reported

”Stargate: Atlantis gets a new character. Ronon Dex has been running from the Wraith for years. He’s legendary among his people, but cannot return to them as he could draw the Wraith to his homeland. “

The site filmjerk posted this information, and has no attribution for the source (well, they never do), but they seem to get their hands on studio stuff.

However…. Why bring in a new character who’s running from the Wraith? Isn’t everybody trying to get away from the Wraith?? Plus wouldn’t it make more sense to develop Teyla and Ford than bring in another alien??

Hope 2ndseasonitis isn't setting in....

Maybe he will be a recurring character like Maybourne?

There's no word, but the way in which the article (well, mention) was said alludes that this a character being added. Don't know if it's recurring, upfront (although I'd like to think perhaps occurring, as we have enough regular characters already....) Maybe it's just a guest star in one episode but without further information, we can just speculate wildly! :D

A character running from the Wraith??!! My god, how fresh and original!! No one EVER runs from the Wraith! Don't think I've ever heard of anyone afraid of inadvertently drawing the Wraith to their people, either. *rolls eyes*

Of course, if SG-1 is going to be concentrating on the Ancients, that leaves Atlantis out in the cold in terms of developing plots, so I guess we have to go for Cheap Plot Devices.

And here I was hoping they'd actually put some thought into the spinoff and try making it different and interesting.

*sigh* Or maybe I'm just in a particularly pissy mood right now.

But seriously, someone running from the Wraith?! Gimme a break.

But seriously, someone running from the Wraith?! Gimme a break.

Well, I suppose it's better than walkling or jogging away. yes, sometimes I wonder if the people who write this stuff (the articles) really think about what they're writing. ...

But maybe this guy is just a potential red shirt down the line....

a brisk walk, or maybe some crawling! But please, having someone that's running from the Wraith is just like having a jew running from the nazis or a human running from the Goa'uld, it's obvious.

So lets keep Lt. Aiden Whatshisstory and Teyla nobackground as wallpapers in season2, it's not like we wanna know anything about them.

I'm not sure why they need a new regular cast member. Especially as outlined in this casting sheet. They already have a large cast, Teyla is connected to the Wraith and there's certainly a lot left to explore with her character.

If new guy is a recurring character might make more sense.

If this new guy is a regular - well, that makes me wonder if someone in the current cast isn't going to survive season 2. :o

I'm in agreement. I think right now, the cast they've got works very well indeed, and I wouldn't like to lose any of them really. I think if anyone does go it would be between Aiden or Carson. But who knows. Let's just hope any of the cast we've got doesn't leave. ;)

I think someone needs to take TPTB aside and explain to them that SG-1 is the show that needs to "fill out" its cast, NOT Atlantis. Of course, that would lead to a much lengthier and messier explanation of how Atlantis and SG-1 are two different shows, and you may not succeed in convincing them of that...

It would have to be Ford becuase Beckett has been moved from a reccuring character to a regular for season 2.

Either TPTB are having a creative breakdown or they've taken on too much work. Get some new writers and seperate the shows ffs.

Thanks for reminding me, but I don't really want Ford to leave.

Considering all the charaters on the show but two suck, maybe they should do something with them, or kill them off.

All actors in the front credits are regular characters; recurring characters are like Beckett was in season 1, or Grodin, or Zelenka. They pop up a lot, but they're not regulars.

Producers has always operated by that standard.

I will react any damn way I want to, thank you. It's MY reaction, not yours.

My best guess on the new character is that he's similar to Aris Boch- he and his people have a natural immunity to the Wraith and he has to avoid his homeworld lest the Wraith discover it and wipe the whole planet out of existence.

So it's your choice to act in an irrational and over-blown manner?

Ok...

Play nice. Christmas doesn't make the mods as holly-jolly as you might think.

I don't see why they need to add another character. There is nothing wrong with The Rodney Show -- I mean, Stargate Atlantis.

Rodney, John, Elizabeth, Teyla, Aiden, Carson. Yay.

But the character could have something... different or interesting to offer. I don't know what more they need exactly. They're great off how they are. Another character might ruin it.

You have to keep in mind that those rough character descriptions that those websites get out about always sound horribly cheesy. I remember back when we first started getting information about Stargate Atlantis. Those character descriptions were horrible. From reading that I was worried that the show was going to be horrible, but I was wrong. So we could be wrong to start critizing this character this early.

I know, I know, 'running from the Wraith', 'aren't we all', but come on... It's one sentence.

*reads above*

Why is everyone getting mad?

When I read this I thought you had forgotten about Ford. Then I remember that Aiden was Ford's first name and I had to laugh at myself. :)

Poor Ford. Maybe they should actually try developing HIS character instead of starting off on someone new. I don't want to see him get gypped two seasons in a row, especially not because TPTB are too busy ogling something new and shiny to notice poor Ford sitting in the corner, virtually unused and gathering a thin layer of dust. :P

Completely off topic but I'm curious as to what Jesus' middle name was that starts with H?

Harry maybe? Jesus Harry Christ? nahhh

And then we find out that Harry Maybourne can trace his lineage WAY back... what a disturbing thought. :P

I like Ford and that's before he's been developed so that proves what a great job the actor's doing. The only characters I dislike are Weir and Teyla - but the acting is just as much as the writing to blame for this. If it were up to me I'd compromise Teyla and have her kill Weir :p

Then replace them with two good female characters.

I think I'm down to Teyla being the only one I actively dislike. Weir has made remarkable progress in my eyes over the course of the past few eps. I'm beginning to really like her. And I do like Ford. Or I WANT to like him. He's cute and funny and personable and all that good stuff, but we've seen so LITTLE of him that it's kinda hard to form a real opinion about him. I'm mostly going on what we got in Rising with a few random bits from other eps thrown in. *sigh* Poor Ford. They'd BETTER develop him in season two or... or Steps Will Be Taken. :P

Ford is so bad. My mom and I were watching the From Stargate to Atlantis thing, and they showed the tape they saw of his acting, we both laughed it was that bad.

The only charaters they seem to care about are the doctor, the scientist guy, and the jack ripoff.

I agree with Shadow. I'm not really a big fan of Teyla. She's seems like she's just kind of supposed to be like the Sam and Teal'c of the show in one. She really hasn't done all that much. Maybe they'll develop her and make her better.

There needs to be for Rainbow! Ford is cool and needs to do something more than get hurt and what-not.

Get hurt, spout exposition, come up with bad names for things, and run around looking cute and eager. ;) The last bit, at least, is good, but there has to be more to it than just that. :D

Actually, he gets to act very serious and businesslike in a few eps, too, which is good, but still not enough for me.

Then again, I can rarely get enough of what I like... :P
