I just caught a rerun of 'Rising' on Universal HD and I have to ask, what in the world happened to the Wraith? In Rising they had mind-control, they healed rapidly from bullet wounds, they had super strength (the one Wraith flung Col Sumter across the room with a mere flick), they could make people see ghost like apparitions. I'm not sure exactly when this all changed but now a P90 can easily dispatch a wraith, I haven't seen the mind control in a long time nor the "making you see things" ability, their strength has diminished greatly....there's no way Ronon would of been able to go hand to hand with the wraith we saw in the early episodes.

the part of been able to let people see things that aren't there shows up in later episodes of season 1, but you make a valid point. Wraith can easily be killed now. In the beginning it took almost a entire magazine of a P90 to kill a wrait, now it only takes a few bullets to do the job.
In episode 3x19 called Submersion, there is a queen that uses mind control. Maybe it's due to the fact that the older wraith are stronger and the younger ones a bit weaker, but it's not explained at all. which sucks.

one could suggest that it takes more time if the characters have to empy their magazine every time they encounter one wraith, that 4-5 people couldn't escape from the Wraith unharmed if they encounter a large group of Wraith.
Still, an explanation would have been handy and wouldn't come across as bad writing or inconsistent writing.

Yeah was thinking about this when I was rewatching season 1 (ok i admit it the entire series... cough) , in the beginning they basically needed 2 p90 clips 14 heart stabs 3 kicks to the groin having there head cut off and a wooden stake through the heart , and even then dont turn your back since like lawyers they will pop back up... And yeah mind visions but later it just go's to mild mind reading with minions and only Queens could control your body.
I explained it away by assuming hollow points even though it doesnt show it, but the same thing happened with Jaffa in SG1 first season there armour deflects alot and just like wraith its a joke by the end.-----------------------------------------------------

It's the same thing that they made with the SG-1 show & much more ather SF series. The idea is that the writers like to make an Uber-Earth, an uber-human, because, us th viewers wouldn't like to see humans taking a beat from the ET's, right? We all like & know the idea that humans are the savers of the galaxy, universe... the good guys! So, that means we have to win almost all the time. The enemy of my enemy it's still my enemy.

Whoever made the Quantum mirror doesn't seem to have a lot of respect for the Asgard. They were just making it so they could snub their noses at them from several dimensions. They might have been powerful but their lack of respect for our off-world allies is astonishing.

My guess would be that the Wraith were weakened because of starvation as has been mentioned here once before. I agree it would have been nice if there would have been an explanation somewhere on the show. And I noticed that in seasons 4 and 5 there was no scene where a Wraith projected a "ghost apparition" (don't know what you call that).
Shame really because the Wraith are just awesome.

I think a lot of the "they're easier to kill now" complaints can be explained by the use of specialised ammunition. Maybe they started using some sort of explosive bullets (or armour-piercing bullets against enemy Jaffa in SG-1).
The wraith's mind abilities were always a little vague and inconsistent but I've always chosen to believe different wraiths have learnt different mind tricks and to different levels (due to training, genetic traits etc.). Also, in regards to mind tricks like the apparitions, I guess the team could have trained themselves to ignore many of them.
The really inconsistent mind ability to me, which would have a dramatic affect on some storylines, was the "telepathic network" that was said in a couple of episodes to exist between all wraith. Wheras some storylines rely on a lack of communication between different wraith and wraith hives, when surely they could just have easily communicated using the "telepathic network".
Oh well. Personally, I hate "telepathy" and other quasi-supernatural traits like mind tricks. One of the real attractions of Stargate for me has always been its grounding in reality, so I'm glad they toned them down.
