'do i at least get jello'

LOLOL

it's almost over but thus far i've enjoyed this more than SGU. it had humor and drama. vengeful daddy, pissed off mama.

i'm afraid that it wasn't a good night for magnus/will shippers....he's in a relationship with claire and she's at least fessed up with john that he's ashley's daddy

tesla was great and there was a good henry/biggy moment

it's off to a good start

Did anyone else find that incredibly sad when mangus finally sees ashley, thinking she has her back and she has a big smile on her face and then she realizes she isnt ashley anymore.

Great season opener, I liked how all the dangling plotslines from Revelations were touched on, Claire and Will's relationship, Bigfoot and Henry, Druitt and Magnus's detente, Tesla working on the cure and of course Ashley.

Biggest LOL moment had to be the 'is this the residence of Martin Wood?' :P

The split screen stuff was pretty cool, though I'm kinda hoping it doesn't become an ongoing shtick for them.

I'm really liking the harder edge to Magnus, how much more closed off emotionally she's become since Revelations. And I really can't wait for her showdown with Ashley.

EDIT: yeah allfornot, that was a lovely moment, from such happiness to such anguish. Nicely played by AT. :)

Wow. That was epic!!

One of the scenes I saw being filmed was in this ep! It was the one where they were in Henry's lab and he was talking about triangulating the signals. Ryan messed up that line a couple times. It was a mouth full.

Amanda was also in that leather outfit for part of the visit, so I assume that the other shot we saw filmed will be in the next episode. Too cool!

That car chase scene was great.

Loved the bit with Kate and Henry and the power bar. Stoopid Henry for falling for that. *squishes Henry*

And those scenes with Biggy and Henry! Wow.

And I am loving Dark!Helen.

I need to watch again.

That was....kind of awesome. Way better than I was expecting anyway.

Ashley's new vampire thing was super cool, but as one who hopes she does go back to being on the good side at some point, I have to wonder exactly how the writers are going to finangle that what with her DNA being rewritten or whatever.

....

I won't even think about the science on that one because it'll just make me irrationally angry.

....

Still love Henry although he needs to be less gullible.

I already hate the new girl. She needs to disappear and take her cocky, stupidly wise-cracking, talking too much, and thinking too little type persona with her. GAH! She grates on the nerves like WOAH!

Very good episode, although Sky, I thought Huggy Bear was funnier ;)
It did have a good combination of action, humour and intense emotions. And the emotional impact was not just on Helen, but on all of them. You could feel how much everyone cares about Ashley. It was a good set up for next weeks part 2 (which I can't wait for).

Oh and I loved big bad mama Helen ;)

The show was amazing all over, for once I focused on something else rather than Amanda/Helen. :D It was so great seeing Helen again after all these months, seeing her again brought a big smile to my face. :). I loved the Helen looking for Martin Wood gag. :P And the other references to Amanda and company in real life, and to good old SG-1. :P

The thing I had been looking forward to the most was seeing Helen/Amanda driving, it was so wicked, I had no idea Amanda could drive like that :D. I loved the way she shot at Kate, you don't want to mess with that mom. :P Will, John, Ashely, Henry and Tesla were really great in it, I thought the fight between John and Ashely was wicked, especially the teleport kick. ;)

I kinda like Kate, but will have to see where it goes from there. :)

*Can't wait for next week*

yeah i know right! I can only hope that the emotion will always be there. Its a beautiful thing that of a mother and daughter...lovers come and lovers go....crazy...but family you will always have to deal with.

Firstly, let me just say (again!) that this ep has exceeded every expectation that a (very, very long!) nine-month hiatus has brought! I am so excited for this season! :)

Characters:
I love how almost every character was touched on in a relatively short and concise amount of time (except for Watson, I really wished that he had been mentioned.) Here are some comments on just a few of them.
~ Clara (although I still don't particuarly care for the character right now, I liked that they were able to work in her whereabouts. I'm interested to hear more about what she's doing at the UK Sanctuary.)
~ Bigfoot (this is probably my favorite character beat of the night. I love the backstory, and the personality they've crafted in such a stoic (and endearing) character. I really hope that he gets better though, I hate seeing him so sick. :()
~ Helen (Amanda in playing Helen's dark side so perfectly. The pain that Helen is going through is so palpable, especially in the one scene with Ashley, that it brought tears to my eyes.)
~ John (I absolutely love the interaction with Helen and John in this ep, and I can't wait to see how this shaky relationship is going to progress in the season. I love that John is feeling the pain of losing Ashley as well.)
~ Ashley (Can't wait to see exactly what's happening with Ashley. I'm hoping that she's still in their somewhere, despite what the Snake-Man (can't remember his name said). The doctor lady working on her was incredibly creepy and Dana didn't fall far behind.)
~ Kate (Not really sure how I feel about her, but it will be interesting to see how she will be used this season (A scorned ex-Cabal agent could be a helpful ally!) I hope that we'll be able to see more of her and Henry together. Tonight their bit with the power bar was quite funny! *huggles the naive and trusting Henry*

LOL moments:
~ "Huggy Bear" (Tesla looked just so amused watching Will and Clara!)
~ "Martin Wood" (I'm so sad that we didn't actually get to meet this "Martin"!)
~ The crack by Tesla about how everything comes down to the fact that Bigfoot won't take his medicine! (Perfectly executed line by Jonathan!)
~ I love that the two orphans lived near Vancouver (where Stargate/Sanctuary is shot) and from Essex, U.K. (where AT's originally from!)

And to top everything off . . . a totally wicked car chase! Whoo! :D

All in all, perfect season opener! A quite depressing episode in terms of plotline, but has some very nice comedic moments to lighten the mood.

Welcome to Season 2! :)

Very nice start to the season IMO. So, how long will Ashley be bad? I am thinking mid-season.

The episode was better then I expected it to be, which is great!

I really liked how it was edited. The multible clips on one screen. That's very cool and similare to a 24 style!(24 is a tv show by the way).

Ashley's transformation was just awesome. It had that thrill and chill about how she looses herself into this new cabal assassin/soldier. I was actually very curious from the previous season how they would change her. And I have to say, it was done very well!

Towards the end when Ashley appears before the group, but very cool. I knew when Kate told them about that place that it would be either an ambush or a trap of some sort. And I expected either cabal angets or ashley to be there awaiting them.

The vampire part of ashley was a new surpise addiction to her skills/abilities and made a good match for Tesla. (I hope to see more of a fight between them!).

Druitt just didn't seem to have much fight in him, although considering that's his daughter, I'd probably hesitate as well.

Magnus seemed to have no fear(except for fear of her daughter). And as Ashley got closer on that last second, I expected to see a hesitation, as if what the cabal did to her, wasn't 100%.

And lastly, seeing that expression on Magnus's face as Druitt teleported her back to the mansion...I'm lost for words. All I can say is, "Bravo, to Amanda Tappings amazing acting!" She made it real and full of emotion for us!

"Thanks you, Miss Tapping for that breath-taking performance!"

That was Awesome! Just wish that it had been a 2 hour opener like it was for season one.

But, Wow! Loved the whole episode, it completely passed all my expectations in a minute. The transformation they had Ashley go through was incredible! But that doctor lady that was with her was seriously creeping me out. Cool how she heard Helen's voice and she woke up. I felt sorry for Ashley though when she started crying when she was being controlled.

Loved the darker Helen. She seemed to have way more edge to her, with good reason though. And loved her interactions with John, they seem to be spending a lot more time toegher.

Tesla was awesome once again. Love how he emptied Helen's entire wine cellar and then he wished that the wine affected him since John was there :) Also the little moment he had with Will and kept calling him "huggy bear" and "dr. expendable" :) It was so funny how naive Henry was with Kate, totally funny when she dropped the candy, the look on Henry's face was hilarious.

And did anyone see what appeared in Ashley's eye when the doctor lady first called out to her, it said "help me" i think. It kind of looked like Ashley.

This was an awesome beginning to season two. Next week needs to be here already! :)

Awesome season start! :D

My favorite moments were definitely the character scenes. Henry's confrontation with Bigfoot, Ashley's anguish when she couldn't attack Doc Psycho, the Helen/John angst (I wasn't asking you out on a date :p), Helen's confrontation with Ashley (so powerful *applauds the amazing performance*).

Tesla was as brilliant as always, sarcastic, narcissistic, rude, and you gotta love him. :p I also liked the car chase sequence as well as the fight at the end. It was short but really well done. How Ashley started the attack, then teleported and executed the punch. *fangurls*

 on the Martin Wood part. :p

For the not so great parts... I have no love for Kate Freemouth. One, I find her very irritating, and two she just doesn't strike me as real for the role. When she said she was a professional, my first thought was "Shouldn't you be in high school or something?" :S I hope she improves over time, I really do, but right now I'm just sorry that Helen wasn't the one to shoot her.
Another thing I didn't like and hope to see less of (by less I mean none at all) is Will/Claire huggy-bear stuff. Just... ughhhhhh.... :S No. Seriously.

And something that isn't a gripe against the ep, but more of a personal preference, I wish Will would shut up once in a while and let Helen shoot people. Really. She can start with New Girl, then Doc Psycho, and then the sky is the limit. :p

All in all I'm really looking forward to ep 2.

p.s. If anyone wants them, over 300 screen caps

To be perfectly honest I was less them impressed. It was good and everthing but nothing wowed me and I think that is critical in a season premiere. It was just the team trying to catch up to the Cabal and one step behind mind you. The only part I was on the edge of my seat was when Druitt and Tesla were fighting Ashley.

The ep definitely left me wanting more. I can hardly wait til next week!

Kate... I can see the appeal, but Helen's reaction was perfect. Kate was being a smartass and they were talking about Helen's daughter's *life*. I guess I empathize too much. I didn't find it at all funny. Or that Henry would fall for that 'trick'. It was well-played and the words were funny, it just didn't 'feel' right to me. The stakes were too high. Helen had the right of it. :D I guess the whole 'destroying people's lives for profit and having no conscience about it - :indeed: being flip about it... I don't like it. Maybe she'll get some depth. Maybe. I want to like her. I guess that's a start.

Loved the fight and Helen's reaction when John 'ported her out. Poor Helen.

The Crazy Doc...that was nutty and chilling. ( at bro-in-law's comment: "Must have had a sale on red hair dye.") She was every bit as creepy as the guy who experimented on Henry. Emilie did a really good job twitching in the water. :( When Ash woke up to 'hearing' Helen's voice.

 at Tesla. Hope he has more to do. When he's there it would be nice to see him a bit more. Though they did a great job pulling all the hanging bits from Rev II forward.

Next week looks awesome!

YES, YES, YES, YES! :) (LOL, what gave it away?! :P)

Oh, and I forgot about that part, but you're right, that's the first thing that I thought of as well. :)

I also liked how they used what looks like the same font from the original Stargate movie to show were each scene was taking place. "Giza, Egypt" looked especially familiar! ;)

Oh! And one other bit I remember catching. I can't remember which scene it was in, but at one moment, you could very, very distinctly hear the three-chord progression in the music that was used very frequently in SG-1 scenes. (Me thinks that Joel Goldsmith has been reusing some scores! ;))

:D Wasn't it great to see that in a final form? Officially my favourite Sanctuary scene ever, just because we were there!

Thought it was a fabulous opener overall. I'm torn because I would have loved it to be 2 hours like the season 1 premiere and yet this way we can string out our 13 episodes a little longer.

Loved all the little inside things like the dual reference to Vancouver and Essex, having 3 Canadian locations mentioned, asking if it was Martin Wood's house (that one made me choke on my popcorn :)), the jello reference, etc.

Thought everyone did a fabulous job. Loved AT's anger and anguish in particular. Poor EU, I can imagine filming those scenes in the tank must have been difficult. I thought she did a wonderful job overall. CH was great in his dual roles (loved the Helen/John scene in the moonlight). Loved RD as Will commenting on Helen's behaviour and RR did a lovely, touching turn with Bigfoot.

I also enjoyed the guest stars. I thought the Kate character was funny and it was particularly striking in contrast to everyone else's anguish in the ep. Loved Ms. Chula as the Cabal doctor. If I recall, she was honoured at the Leos this year for her acting (not for this role) and I can see why AT respects her so much. She was cheerfully creepy! And Tesla was fabulous again! Love his little off-the-cuff comments like "Dr. Expendable"!

Can't wait for episode 2!

I really really enjoyed this episode. It had a good balance to it, the pacing was juuuuust right.

I'm very happy there was less green screen. The library and lab looked pretty good, but it is easier to stay engaged in the story when you are distracted by the little things.

Things are shaping up to be action packed and awesomesauce.

The one thing I didn't like was Kate. She bugged me. I know what they were going for but it came off as really lame. She (or rather) her writers were trying too hard to make her edgy and mouthy. It came off, to me, as really forced and predictable. Who didn't think she would be a)betrayed and b) wind up at the Sanctuary?

Nice to see Helen kicking some serious butt though. Far more intense than anything last year (barring Requiem). Amanda is doing a great job at adding more depth to the character. The leather (pleather) outfit near the end didn't hurt things either. Also nice to see her rocking the Bimmer.

The interaction between characters was nice. I especially enjoyed the beginning with Will and Tesla. I'm enjoying Tesla far more thus far than all of last year.

The fight scenes were nice. Esp. Sanctuary V. Ashley and how broken Helen looked when John teleported her away. EU did a good job coming off as a baddy, she looked like she was enjoying just kicking Sanctuary butt.

now for my review...

the episode was great! :D

i'll start with cons:

i saw a bit of a flaw, green screen wise, in one scene where helen and the gang were in that large room, discussing something. not a biggie at all, though.

i wanted more of the car chase, only b/c amanda was driving! :p

the pros:

first off, the way the ep was filmed, using split screens and such, was brilliant! quite a neat effect that i wasn't expecting.

ashley!! :( i really felt bad what was happening to her. i can't see how this is going to turn out good for her... (((ash)))

the woman scientist, injecting ash, was interesting, mostly b/c she seemed to feel actually bad about what she was doing. not bad enough, obviously, to NOT do it, but it added an interesting twist.

nice scene between henry and bigfoot. (let's loose bigfoot instead of ashley :p)

henry! his scene, where he was crying...

the new girl is alright (kate). not at all as annoying as vala (was afraid of this), but still not someone i'm looking forward to seeing more of. yet.

the scene where they all confront vampash; it was great how quickly john grabbed everyone to get them away from her. he knew this was a losing battle.

also a lovely scene between helen and john, sitting wherever they were with the huge moon. i liked what she said about knowing that violence was already in him, still in him, whether tesla exorcised it out of him or not. that obviously haunts helen... she'll never be able to let her heart open to him b/c of it.

(my best for last)

and helen... great scene where she was ready to shoot kate -which i don't blame her for- to get her to talk. didn't help that kate was being snarky. and then wil's great line about her manors matching jack the rippers. :p i like where the helen-wil relationship is headed, that they can talk so honestly with each other.

but my fave scene was the standoff with helen and ash. you could see the turmoil helen was going through. and helen's anger and plea to john to take her back. as usual, wonderful acting from amanda!! :D

but i'll tell you... when helen said what she thought was happening, of how the cabal were making super beings, all from ashley... i felt right there, we were seeing how this situation with ashley is going to turn out. i said it to my mom... they're going to kill ashley. :(

Did anyone else find that incredibly sad when mangus finally sees ashley, thinking she has her back and she has a big smile on her face and then she realizes she isnt ashley anymore.

yes. :(

what else have they done to ashely!? it has to be more than just injecting her with the source blood?

Cool how she heard Helen's voice and she woke up. I felt sorry for Ashley though when she started crying when she was being controlled.

yes, ash woke to her mom's voice! :(

Loved the darker Helen. She seemed to have way more edge to her, with good reason though. And loved her interactions with John, they seem to be spending a lot more time toegher.

if teleporting is what drove john insane, will this do the same to others he teleports? i'm assuming it would have to be a lot of teleporting, but since they're looking for ashley...

And did anyone see what appeared in Ashley's eye when the doctor lady first called out to her, it said "help me" i think.

i didn't see that!

And something that isn't a gripe against the ep, but more of a personal preference, I wish Will would shut up once in a while and let Helen shoot people. Really. She can start with New Girl, then Doc Psycho, and then the sky is the limit. :p

... i don't think Will will be able to stop her, if ashley dies. it won't matter what he says... i'm *almost* looking forward to the scene (i saw it in my head last night when i went to bed). helen would tear the cabal leader inside out. i want her to!

:( When Ash woke up to 'hearing' Helen's voice.

i wonder if ash *really* heard her mother's voice? maybe some psychic connection? but if it is, was it always there, or something the cabal was doing to her?

or, it's what ashley 'wanted' to hear... this is sad! :(

This. All of this. There was some superb acting from all of them, though Tapping in Magnus VS Freelander (Freelander, seriously??) was just. GUH. Honestly. Shivers. And her scene with Ashley - but, even moreso, upon getting transported back to the Sanctuary... her desperation then is pulpable.

For the not so great parts... I have no love for Kate Freemouth. One, I find her very irritating, and two she just doesn't strike me as real for the role. When she said she was a professional, my first thought was "Shouldn't you be in high school or something?" :S

Dude. So with you on that. Her character seems a bit clichéd -- a tough smart-, um, -bum?, who can fight. Yeah, whatever. Doesn't hold much interest, for me at least. As of yet, very two-dimensional.

ETA: And the way she escaped -- too predictable. There was really no need to make Henry a complete fool like that. :(

Yes. So much YES. Dark!Helen I find incredibly interesting, enticing, and, on a shallower level, sexy as hell. Both the writing and Amanda's performance were phenomenal. Bring her on, I say.

Well that was certainly the weakest of the shows I watch on Fridays. SGU was great, Clone Wars was terrific, Dollhouse finally had it's first good episode this season, and Sanctuary, well....

Ugh, what a letdown of a season opener. It was nice to see them finally use Vancouver as Vancouver, and that one of the 'perfect' people was named Martin Wood (:D), but beyond that, bleh. Slow pacing, annoying new character, John there as little more than a transportation gimmick, Tesla accomplishing little more than drinking wine, Bigfoot doing his annoying panting thing--really, not one of the characters was playing to their strengths. And it didn't even come off as desperation, it just came off as bad, boring, and uninteresting. And let's not even go into that stupid multicamera thing they tried out. God forbid they should ever do that again; I think it may finally have bested the infamous "xx hours earlier" as the single most annoying storytelling technique ever conceived.

I like Sanctuary. I was a bit bored with its first few episodes, but then there were some really awesome winners toward the end of the season that left me with bated breath and just dying for season two to start. But this season premiere was a real stinker, IMO. I hope next week is better.

And did anyone see what appeared in Ashley's eye when the doctor lady first called out to her, it said "help me" i think. It kind of looked like Ashley.

It looked like an image of Helen to me. I like that they're showing some sort of mental tie between Ashley and Helen with this and hearing her mom's voice, kinda showing the woman inside of the monster she's becoming.

Loved all the little inside things like the dual reference to Vancouver and Essex, having 3 Canadian locations mentioned, asking if it was Martin Wood's house (that one made me choke on my popcorn :)), the jello reference, etc.

Hee, I nearly spilled my drink at the Martin Wood reference. And I think there was another reference with the orphan from Essex, Erica Kennair works for Syfy, I think.

Heh, the bolded was exactly what I was thinking about that doctor, so happily doing something so evil. Very cool that they were able to get someone of Ms. Chula's stature to be part of their show.

And I have to say, I'm insanely jealous (in a good way! :P) that you guys got to see that scene being filmed. That's what I'll be thinking about during that scene when I rewatch this episode. :)

Okay time for my Review!

The Great Stuff

- The last 7 minutes storming the warehouse. And realiseing it was a trap. EU played that scene so Well i can't wait to her Ashley talk i'm assuiming her voice will change? Magnus' reaction when John Teleported her out was almost heartbreaking.

- Telsa, as always great sarcasticness about the Shaggy butler :D. Damn him being about to drink wine and not get drunk!

- Helen, I just love the whole Crusade of her trying to find Ashley. Amanda is playing darkHelen greatly!

- John, He's trying to be there To find Ashley which i love. I feel for him Also because he found his daughter even tho Ashley doesn't want anything to do with him and now hes lost her again, He has to be feeling the pain as well.

- Henry, The scene with Bigfoot about Loosing Ash was heartbreaking which makes me think Bigfoot is the one that dies not Ashley as everybody is suspecting.

- The Car Chase was awaesom i wished there was more like "dangerous drivin" ( i drive like that everyday :P) and it was to short! lol

- Crazy dr lady was awesome too. wayy creepy

- Less green screne. a nice change :)

- Loved the John/ Helen Anguish. The scene was played well in the moonlight *sigh * :P

the Stuff I Didn't Like

- Kate, i'm sure she will grow on me but i think they could have stall her introduction a little bit more, but then agian i suppose she was the link....

- Will always having something to say to Magnus. I didn't like him in this epsidoe purley for that fact. and at the end where he follows her out of the room. wtf was that?! arggh! Will leave the lady alone!

Overall i tought it was a great season opener, so i give it 8.5/ 10.

bring on next week!

now for my review...

the episode was great! :D

i'll start with cons:

i saw a bit of a flaw, green screen wise, in one scene where helen and the gang were in that large room, discussing something. not a biggie at all, though.

i wanted more of the car chase, only b/c amanda was driving! :p

the pros:

first off, the way the ep was filmed, using split screens and such, was brilliant! quite a neat effect that i wasn't expecting.

an *excellent* episode and wonderful premier!! :D

Great I'm glad you love it hon. :)

... i don't think Will will be able to stop her, if ashley dies. it won't matter what he says... i'm *almost* looking forward to the scene (i saw it in my head last night when i went to bed). helen would tear the cabal leader inside out. i want her to!

I think you just want to see Amanda act her heart out. ;)

I've read a lot of reviews about the episode and and overall they're quite positive. :) I can't wait to see more eps and I hope S2 stays as strong as it is now (if not stronger) all the way to the last episode. ;)

Overall, pretty good start to the new season. I liked that either they have really improved the green screen or they didn't shoot as much in front of it because the overall effect was much more real in this episode.

I like the little bit darker Magnus. She's not gone too far like the web-episodes, but is definately not as laid back as she was last season. It's a good fit.

Boy...Henry seems to have filled out this season :D. Lookin' good. But I agree that getting duped in the warehouse was pretty lame.

Druitt--last season he seemed so tortured and remorseful at the end. Now he seems to have somewhat lost that. I don't know if he has just come to accept himself more, if this thing with Ashley has hardened him a bit or if maybe he has started to go back to the dark side (in small amounts).

Thought Emile did a nice job with Ashley's character. I like how the situation presents a bit of anguish with Helen. Makes you really feel for Helen and Ashley. Hope though they do get her out of it. I can see how this experience, though, could allow for more growth on Ashley's part in the future. Shel, I also noticed how Ashley woke up to her mothers voice and saw the image of her mother in her eyes. That helped pull a little bit more on my heart strings...very sad.

Don't like the Kate Freelander character. I do like Telsa but, I really hope they don't keep him as a permanent character. I think he adds more as someone who shows up now and then to add to that particular episode. I know it's still early but I don't feel the click with the group dynamics of Helen, Druitt, Henry, Will and Telsa. I really hope they keep the team like it was last season.

Finally...one thing I do wish they would have done is not jumped so far ahead since last season ended. I think it is suppose to be like 6 months later, isn't it? I would have rather seen at least small glimpses into what they have all been going through since they took Ashley. I know there is a time factor as far as moving the show along, but I feel like if we could have seen those glimpses we would be even more connected to the characters plight and understood more where they are now at emotionally.

I think it was just a matter of flip floppery between all the cast...I mean, it was a good episode in my opinion but I suppose it was all over the place...i dont understand why you did not like it.

I thought I was pretty clear about that the first time, apologies if I was not:

The story: I felt it was plodding and mostly uninteresting, end result boring. They spend a good chunk of the episode searching out dead end leads which, while important to showing the futility they were facing, were not especially well executed and felt laborious to have to sit through

The larger plot: Which probably should have been the main thrust of the episode, we got nearly nothing of. We get an awesome globetrotting, two-part season finale that involves all the characters working together and playing to their strengths, in order to uncover ancient secrets and how they apply to modern problems re: the Sanctuary and the Cabal. We get all kinds of new and cool background information on the significant and ancient role of vampires in human history, which in turn gives the story a lot of depth and a feel of being part of a grander story. And they pulled that off tremendously, it was a great finale.

But we come back and all that was for what, making a half a dozen mindless supersoldiers with the sole purpose of destroying the Sanctuary? That's a pretty damn big letdown, as far as I'm concerned. It's just not interesting. Why not use it to find a new way of destroying Abnormals, or creating vampiric creatures to hunt Abnormals, or create a whole new vampire to be pliable and use it to start taking over the world or something. That's just a bit of mindless brainstorming off the top of my head, but any of those would've been more entertaining.

The characters: I'll give props to Amanda Tapping. The woman is always a joy to watch, and the abduction of her character's daughter gives her a lot to work with.

Unfortunately, that seems to leave everyone else standing around trying to look important. Druitt did little more than provide a convenient means of teleporting people around the world, even though Ashley is his daughter too. Tesla's just chilling out drinking the wine cellar dry, Bigfoot's moping in his cell, Will's tending his e-relationship, and Henry....well, I have no idea what Henry's doing.

My point is, they give most of the cast nothing to do. And even Amanda Tapping, who has by far the best to work with, is also left a little in the lurch by a story that doesn't really go anywhere or do anything for 42 minutes.

Multi-shot: Now, that multi-camera-shot thing they had going on? I hope whoever thought that one up gets fired and blacklisted from ever working TV again. Seriously. Most annoying storytelling/shooting technique I've ever had the misfortune of suffering through. Completely setting aside the boring story for a moment, this 'technique' alone almost made me shut off the episode before I got to the end.

All put together, I thought it made for a pretty lousy episode. Like, 1 star out of 5 lousy and I'm only giving it that one because the "Martin Wood" thing managed to get a smile out of me. I'll keep watching, because I like the characters and the series mythology and want to know where they're going with it, but that certainly doesn't mean I have to like all the episodes :)

I liked it a lot. :D Definitely got me back in the Sanctuary mood. I missed these guys!

I didn't particularly like her, but the Kate character didn't grate on my nerves. I actually found the "Do I at least get Jell-O?!" comment hilarious. :D I'm having problems keeping her and the Invisible girl straight, though. They seem rather similar.

Speaking of invisible girl, the Clara/Will thing is icky. :S Just...do not want. They might be able to make it work, but I'm not liking it at the moment. On the plus side, Tesla was funny. :D

The scene with Bigfoot and Henry was really quite sad. Someone else mentioned this, but I'm starting to worry for Bigfoot's wellbeing more than Ashley's...speaking of whom...THEY HAD TO MAKE HER EVIL JUST TO GET RID OF THOSE ANNOYING BANGS?! WHAT??

Ahem. :P Creepy evil doctor-lady was creepy. And evil. I feel really bad for both Magnus and Ashley, and hope Ash doesn't stay evil too long.

The bad: Split screen was annoying. Hope they don't use it again--or at least use it more sparingly. Like, once an episode at most.

Now, whatever are they going to do with the lady who has the perfect DNA? Somehow I feel that she'll feature more prominently in the next episode. Perhaps the Sanctuary could be tempted to make their own superabnormal?

i guess the reason things just didn't magically pop out of the wood work was due to practicality. Its suppose to be somewhat realistic.
but you are right i do wish that there had been a bigger picture...but what could there have been? I think the idea is that Ashley will be the one to be her mothers downfall....as in Sanctuary..the entire premise of the show...its all so familial and chilling....demons come and go and villains will always be hell bent of destroying the good guy but what happens when your own child is hell bent of destroying you? thats what i like about it...I would have liked less will however...he seems, as tesla believes him to be, rather pointless....lets face it....what does will bring to the team? a helping hand? Very good episode, although Sky, I thought Huggy Bear was funnier ;)
It did have a good combination of action, humour and intense emotions. And the emotional impact was not just on Helen, but on all of them. You could feel how much everyone cares about Ashley. It was a good set up for next weeks part 2 (which I can't wait for).

Oh and I loved big bad mama Helen ;)
Totally agree with you Mandy...Big Bad Mama Helen...Amanda just blew me away...yet again!
I think Robin's going to get a lot of "teasing" with that "huggy bear" line...love it!!! :D
Emilie...oh wow...love love love her in this ep....she is just so awesome.
The moment between Henry and Bigfoot...aww man...talk about choke me up! :(
Kate Freelander...now she actually has grabbed my attention. Thus far I am impressed! :P I think I'm going to like her. :)
Will was different...I can't quite put my finger on it but he was different in a good way!
Still in love with John...can't help it! :P Loved the scene with Helen when he zapped her out of the warehouse and she begged for him to take her back...that was for me one of the best scenes in the whole ep. Her desperation, John's conflict with helping Helen and leaving Ashley and seeing what happened to her, and then Ashley about to harm her own mother. That was HUGE!!
Awesome episode...looking forward to the next one...and all the others following! :D

I really loved this episode. Ashley's eyes are incredible when they are stretched like that! I can't see how they are going to be able to reverse what they have done to her. But I'm going to enjoy watching them try :)
Actually, I think I can...or at least tone it down considerably if not reverse it completely! Remember the orphans started out with abnormalities but were then wiped clean...why not do the same to Ashley! Just a thought. :)

The ep definitely left me wanting more. I can hardly wait til next week!

The Crazy Doc...that was nutty and chilling.

Emilie did a really good job twitching in the water. :( When Ash woke up to 'hearing' Helen's voice.

Suse
Oh yeah...Babz Chula was brilliant as the Doctor that worked on Ashley...and when Ashley heard her mother call out...oh wow.
I wonder though...the doctor almost looked as though she regretted what she was doing to Ashley...maybe she will be the help they need to get Ashley back!

Druitt--last season he seemed so tortured and remorseful at the end. Now he seems to have somewhat lost that. I don't know if he has just come to accept himself more, if this thing with Ashley has hardened him a bit or if maybe he has started to go back to the dark side (in small amounts).

I don't really think that Druitt's gone back to his evil side. I think that he's feeling the pain of loosing his daughter and watching her mother in the same pain. He's obviously holding a torch for Helen, and her pain would affect him too. I think that these feelings are making him more of a "good guy".

Well, this is only Stage 1! :)

i guess the reason things just didn't magically pop out of the wood work was due to practicality.

Definetely. The whole premise is to create a dilemma for Helen and the rest of the gang: how do you save the Sanctuary if it means killing your daughter/friend? :(

*gasps* i wanna meet Chris!! i love him! lol

Yeah Suse had a pretty good catch in seeing that (she made this post on Sanctuary forum) ... I hadn't noticed it. I remember seeing it now. Good catch Suse and you may be right about the original Ashley being trapped inside the new Ashley... if that's so then there may be hope for Ashley at some point.

Also what ever the lab lady is using to control Ashley, the Sanctuary needs some of it!

Yes, I remember that. I wonder if this is a glimpse of what could be in the future. When I re-watched it again, I thought during the fight with her, her mom, Druitt and gang, that she didn't appear to really be trying to kill them. She let her dad go after she threw him out of the way and the same with Telsa. She could have very easily killed both. Yeah, she had her claws out at her mom, but I wonder if she would have stopped, like with the doctor earlier, if it would have gone further. You wonder if she will be able to take more control of herself in the future, if given the right means (drugs, emotional connection, etc.)

Good episode, awful car chase though, it was edited to make it look exciting but just failed, and I'm not sure I like those multi-screen segments like in 24!
loved everything else, Ashley's eyes are creepy!! I bet the Essex girl is the key to the cure for them all. I can either see ash staying as powerful as she is, and either having to die or being released from cabal control, or being freed, but going back to being 100% normal. I honestly don't see that happening for at least 6 episodes. I hope they don't save everyone within the next episode that would be too soon.

very interesting. if the 'real' ash is simply trapped, then she can be released and saved.

so maybe the new killer ash is like she's been goaulded. her real personality taken over and locked away and supplanted by the 'new' one

so, theories to fixing her...presuming they can catch her without getting killed themselves (a sure bet if they're talking season three :) )

they use the one essex girl to 'erase' ashley's gifts and rewrite her, like the cabal did to the others. but will or can helen make ash the way she was before or will she make her something 'better' or make her 'normal'

maybe that's the only way to save her is to make her a regular human

In my opinion I don't think Ashley will ever go back to normal. I think how the Cabal is controlling her hopefully can be fixed.

I much prefer they try to do damage control and reclaim her mind, her self control, her own instincts which seem to have been altered. I think the gifts themselves will always remain and Ashley has to come to terms with it ... if she can. I think it's a long process given what happens in the next eppy.

My question is how did they know how Ashley would be able to sustain all these changes? Does Helen and John's altered blood make Ashley more accessible to these procedures since the source blood is already running through Ashley's veins due to her parents? If that's the case then are the carbon copies much easier to kill/stop - well once they figure out how to do that.

The fallout from being what the Cabal made her would be enormous.

But wasn't Ashley normal - as normal as a gal can be raised where/the way she was before the Cabal started messing with her? At least the genes were dormant, she had never jumped before and she was too young to know if she got a dominant anti-aging gene.

I'm not so sure she isn't gone. The Cabal sure thinks she is. That last shot was supposed to totally remake her. Poor Ash. She's moved to the Dark Side.

i wonder if ash *really* heard her mother's voice? maybe some psychic connection? but if it is, was it always there, or something the cabal was doing to her?

or, it's what ashley 'wanted' to hear... this is sad! :(

That would be interesting, but I took it as part of her resistance to what they were doing to her. Her connection to who she is being tied to her mom?

Overall, I thought the episode was good if not earth shattering. Of course the buildup of the big wait tends to set expectations high.
As always I loved the Helen moments.
I loved her ruthlessness in the interrogation scene. "get used to sitting more." Chilling. And then her desperation telling John to "take me back!" after the confrontation with Ashley
Great stuff.

I'm hopeful that Ashley is still in there somewhere & they can get her back maybe mid season. I would expect a long recovery fraught with story possibilities. ;)

I'm looking forward to getting more coverage of the Bigfoot situation and hope Helen figures in here too. There seem to be some issues we have yet to learn about there.

Glad Tesla is still hanging around. I'd like him to be a periodic feature but don't want "too much of a good thing"--not a regular or anything--would diminish his impact.

I'll have to watch the show again, but we don't know what age they were when they were being experimented on... I got the impression those kids were grown in a lab to get pure flawless DNA. We have no idea what the Cabal or whoever was working on the project had planned for the kids once they were born. Once Helen got involved, which was apparently after they had succeeded in developing the kids, she shut down the project and they became wards of the state - so they didn't have parents.

My thought is... the copies were born with flawless DNA and Ashley was born with Source Blood already in her DNA. They are very different genetic coding trying to accomplish the same outcome (super solider). I don't think reversing it would be the same. I think the copies would break down easier whereas the original would be like altering Helen, John or Tesla back to their normal state. One thing is for sure ... It will be interesting next eppy whatever they do!!

I think the project involved modifying the DNA of orphans, so they weren't born with flawless DNA, their DNA was scrubbed to make them blank slates.

With regards to Ashley, Tesla was able to shock Druitt back to his senses, maybe the same can be done for Ashley? And Tesla is taking some kind of treatment to control his vampirism, so maybe they could do the same for her? It wouldn't 'cure' her, but it could help her control her new powers.

SamJackShipper93
October 11th, 2009, 02:34 PM
Of course none of us know exactly how this will turn out for Ashley. I'm really hoping that this procedure will be able to be undone, and if so, Ashley would be able to return to normal. Well, as normal as someone in her position could come. Obviously this is sure to haunt her for the rest of her life, but the whole premise kinda reminds me of Sam Carter's goa'ulding with Jolinar, and she was able to work through that. :)

I've thought this as a possibility, too. Especially.....

since in next weeks previews, it shows her trying to get through some sort of electricity shield. I wondered if this was something they do to try to get her out of her current state.

I'm hoping they get Ashley back to her normal state, without all the powers. I think it makes more of a challenge for her and the team, if they don't all have superpowers to help save the day.

On another note, I think Dana (Cabal lady) looks much better this season. Her new hair-do makes her actually seem more approachable and softer (if that's possible!)

Yes, it is the bestest Sanctuary scene ever! Though Ryan's hair looked awfully curly :P

"Uh Ryan, shouldn't you be typing or something...."

Didn't it though? ;)

Sorry you were disappointed but glad you will stick with the show. :)

All this talk about what's going to happen to Ash this is what i really think. Its a twist but it could be twisty enough to work!

Bigfoot is the one that dies, i hate to say it but still... Ashley breaks the mind control but the Cabal and supersoilers will still be after her after she kicks there butts!. While browsing some sites, I noticed that CH is credited throughout the S2 as both Druitt and Bigfoot. Of course, one of those sites was IMBD, so I'm not betting any money. Still. I have to agree with kes -- Ashley dying or being lost to them would have more impact on the show overall. No matter how much I like the big guy. :)

I'm surprised at all the rave reviews. I did enjoy the Ashley scenes, especially the battle in the warehouse, but on the whole it was pretty ho-hum.

I was impressed by how Sanctuary grew during its first season and expected it to continue, but in general the dialogue for this premiere was pretty terrible. Too many cringe-inducing lines, particularly with Henry and Kate and her ridiculous escape. And the lengthy scenes with the "mother" figure at the Cabal were painful too.

There's still a lot of promise, particularly with Druitt and Tesla more involved in the search, but I hope this was just an opening slip-up. The story might be epic, but I'd prefer the obvious one-liners be sent back to the cutting room floor.

So she goes off... rouge as i like to say Killing both for the Sanctuary and anything really that is a threat to her. Kinda freelancing but not really, that way the whole season can play under that plot line of Ashley is alive but where is she and whats happening with her kinda thing.

... it could work ;)

i'll take this over ashley dying!

but it said there's a death that rocks the sanctuary network (something like that)... so would bigfoot's death be that shattering for the world wide sanctuaries?

wow..... what an opener..... only bad thing i can say is that Essex isn't some sleepy village in a lush green mountain range ( well it wasn't the last time i looked out the window behind me)

The rest was just brilliant.... LOVED the Martin Wood line, had to rewind and play that bit again.

Really liked the fight scene between Father and Daughter.... specialy how Ash starts a kick, only to finish it after 'jumping' across the warehouse.

Amanda really kicked it out the park at the end... the way she begged Druitt to take her back to the warehouse....:(

I was at Haven 1 a couple of weekends ago... and something EU hinted at there made me think about Ashley's screentime this season

Apparently EU has had some kind of health problem recently, resulting in a major operation she had to go through...... makes me think TPTB have had Ashley go off on her own for a few episodes to let EU recover from whatever it was.

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. Don't know if it should go here or in most recent episode thread or spoiler thread? Sometimes I get lost in here :o

One possibility

I think Bigfoot could be the one who dies and that Ashley is the one to kill him while she is under the Cabal control. As far as affecting other sanctuaries and the team...this is possible if you really interpret "affecting all the sanctuaries" part loosely. If Ashley is the one that kills Bigfoot it would obviously put her in a tailspin emotionally when she becomes normal again and realizes what she did. This would force her to leave the sanctuary in order to try to get herself together, so to speak. Her leaving would also mean Sanctuary losing their biggest "gun" to protect all the other sanctuaries. The abnormal (can't remember his name) that Magnus tried to get info out of in the premiere actually made the statement that having Ashley gone has been good for abnormals like him. This could be what they mean by affecting the other sanctuaries. If Emilie had to be out because of an illness, this to me would be a way to cover for that. Of course, maybe I too, am just grasping at straws and hoping that she is not the one that gets killed off.:(

I really like the show but I was a bit upset with Henry's actions as well. It was like there was a huge whole in the writing and they were like, I know Henry is suddenly struck dumb!

Have to say I am not into the new girl but I am not sure if it is her acting or perhaps poor direction. All scenes with her were a tad off. Her energy and pace in the show did not match the rest of the cast. It was like a sore thumb. Now this could be poor direction, when an actor is not in step with the rest of the cast a director needs to see that and fix it.

All the parts with her did not have the true Sanctuary feel, not to mention her banter was delivered in an over the top fashion. And her dialog was kinda lame. "It's a fun game you really wanna play??"

I mean please!! We have gone from witty Tesla to this chick.

I love the fact that Will is having a relationship, and that Tesla was back. (I love his character!!!) I liked that Helen lost control however there were too many senses with her walking away in angry. It got to the point that I was tired of seeing her back.

Also I really wanted Magnus to slap Will for telling her that her manners suck since she has been hanging out with John. Hello her freakin daughter has been stolen! Any mother would kill to get their child out of harms way.

Cannot wait to see more of this season! ;)

Ok I finally got to sit down and watch, and all I have to say is fabulous! Totally fabulous!

All right, that's not all I have to say. :P Love the Helen-John banter searching for Ashley. Helen being so panicked just breaks my heart!

Speaking of that, Henry begging Bigfoot to take the drugs just about killed me too! The tears and the pain and the anguish... they should just hold him down and make him do it! I don't want him to die!

That "doctor" working on Ashley was totally creepifying! She was just crazy! And what they did to Ashley is just insane! I couldn't even recognize her! I hope they can fix the poor girl. I don't think Helen could take that loss.

Overall, totally fantastic! I loved it! I can't wait until Friday!

I very highly doubt it. The doctor said that her daughter hadn't survived, and that if she had, she would be about Ashley's age. And Dana's *way* older than Ashley is! :P

I have to say I really liked the premier of the new season but there are some problems:

1. The new girl, bad acting straight up. She should have died in the car. If someone has a dot on you it means all they have to do is pull the trigger and your dead. It does not mean that you have enough time to open a car door, jump out a car, leap STRAIGHT VERTICAL and over and wall, and then take cover with nigh but a leg wound. I also don't get how she managed to get all the way to the Sanctuary on a bad leg and the Cabal operatives didn't bother to pursue and catch her?

2. The interrogation: FAIL. Way to get absolutely nothing done. I personally work with non-violent interrogation methods in my workplace. They work better and make people like you more. There are many routes to pursue, they could have found out people (she gave them her real name) she is related to or associated with and tell them who she is or what she does, shame is a powerful motivator. They could have offered more money, they could have established a baseline psych profile and used it (i.e. daddy touched me there, therefor I'm a soulless ***** who kidnaps people for money) and finally they could have out waited and threatened. Secondly if they are not going for non-violent then shoot the *****. Magnus is a DOCTOR she could easily find a place to shoot her so she would bleed a lot but not have any lasting damage. Make her more afraid of you then she is of the Cabal. That half-and-half crap did nothing but look like a bad TV interrogation.

3. Henry, please man, come on, she told you she was going to escape and she dropped the bar in her crotch for god's sake. You are literally retarded and should probably be left with crayons and coloring books for the rest of this show after that.

4. Did anyone else find the Ashley transformation scenes creepily erotic? The intense cleavage and close angles gave me a gross old lady on trapped young girl vibe that the "I had a daughter thing" really didn't explain away.

5. BACKWARDS Eclan sights on MP7's!>!>! NO! A 4x scope meant for distance use should not be on that gun EVER, and it was BACKWARDS!

6. Why did Will pull a pistol on Ashley when he had a submachinegun on him? Maybe she can survive two 9mm to the arms (a big guy on coke would shrug that off too) but could she survive a 30 round mag to the face? I'm never going anywhere remotely dangerous with Will after this, knowing his preference he would probably bring a corkscrew to a knife fight.

i just watched this in uk cause it wasnt advertised at all for itv4 so i had to catch repeat and i have to say i cant blame them for not advertising it, it really was the most diabolical episode

before you call me a hater i enjoyed the first series of sanctuary, though it was a bit hit and miss but had alot of potential, but this episode stank of it trying to be something its not, namely 24
WTF was up with those blackouts, i counted 13 in one episode, well actually mostly in the second half, and not even at the end of the scene where they are supposed to be, but in the middle, hell when helen shot at kate it completly sucked the drama out, and what was the point of the car chase it was completly out of place in this show and not only that but the two cars just followed each other in a straight BLOODEY LINE. Also the episode was obvious, the dialogue atrocious and what they are doing with ashlee is the same is what they did with ford, didnt write anything for them in the first series and so makes them go evil so they can be killed and written out of the show.

Kate is clearly meant to replace ashley as she does the same role except that shes whiney and annoying, plus there is no way henry would have fallen for that, not that quickly

the only saving grace were the two cabel women, which in a show were they are supposed to be the bad guys, is very worrying.

Seriously i loved sanctuary season one but after that amateur, ridicously poor episode this show has one episode to improve or i stop watching forever

PS the bit with essex actually insulted me, would it hurt to look at google maps instead of assuming its a little village, and that all british are posh farmers with horses oh my days

Another thing.

If Tesla is so smart how come he didn't turn the cure into a gaseous state and disseminate it in the air just to get Bigfoot to take it. that would be quick, simple, effective. Though I can understand how the cure would be more effective in a liquid form instead of a gas state.

Yahoo! Just watched this ep for the first time and I adore Tesla so much more now. I love the scene where Will is web-camming with Clara and Tesla just stands there with the empty bottle.

Tesla: "Your shaggy friend is still refusing treatment, and frankly, I'm insulted." (crosses his arms)
Will: "Oh, right, yeah, because I forgot, this is all about you."
Tesla: "I have spent weeks creating a working treatment for the Lazarus virus. I spent weeks more traveling the earth, disseminating it to the affected abnormals, effectively stemming an outbreak, and in the end, the creep in the room with the hair doesn't wanna take his medicine!"

And the whole Huggy Bear thing. :D I had to rewind and watch that whole conversation twice.

Did anyone notice the use of Beethoven's Fur Elise as a theme for the doctor with Ashley? The first scene she puts FE on from her phone. Then each scene with the two of them has it in the backround.

Must really like FE cos they used it for a second on the season three episode Animus. When Henry fixes the radio you hear it.

Holy handgrenades. What an explosive episode! I'm on pins and needles to see what happens to Ashley. If they can manage to turn her back, she will be quite the asset to the Sanctuary, even more than she was before. I really hope they don't have to kill her.

So, EON1, where it's been 6 weeks since Ash was snagged and we find out that 'the enemy ofmy enemy is my friend' with magnus and druitt working together to try and get her back.

mags may still love druitt but she can't forget what he did, and calls him on it.
we have the intro of Kate, who starts out working for the cabal and ends up on their hit list after she is identified by Mags and Will.

Biggie has refused to take the antidote to the lazarus virus, much to tesla's dismay

by the end of the episode, ash is firmly in the evil team, magnus and company realizes just how much they underestimated the cabal and 'in jeopardy' is an understatement.

EON2 was not just a set up for part 2 but it was done really well. We got character moments, humor (who doesn't crack a smile at Tesla's antics)and some action.

One thing I caught on the rewatch; Dana states she would not under estimate Helen or Tesla again. Wonder when they crossed paths before because I don't think she is referring to the events in Revelations...or was she?

The wacked scientist gave the Cabal a little more depth and less cheese.

Skydiver

Yeah, ms scientist was spooky. and I too got the idea that dana and helen had history of some sort.

I"m wondering how many members of the cabal have had run ins with abnormals? Be the perfect recruiting tool, target those that have been victims of abbies
