Joe Morton directs Eureka (and brings back Matt Frewer)

Joe Morton is best known as an actor, but every once in a while he likes to step behind the camera, too. And so it is that the Eureka star has called the shots for the first time on an episode of the popular Syfy show. His episode, "Have an Ice Day," will premiere on Friday, Sept. 11, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

What's the big surprise behind the return of Eureka's 'Taggart'?

The rumors are not true—Matt Frewer did NOT agree to reprise his role as Jim Taggart on Syfy's Eureka just so people would finally stop saying, "Hey Matt, when are you going to be back as Taggart on Eureka?"

From E! Online:

Jimmy in Carson, Calif.: So happy to see Taggart back on Eureka—he's the best. Will my favorite character be on the show more regularly now?
Matt Frewer himself tells us this is the only Eureka episode he filmed this season, which means he won't appear on Friday's finale. As for future eps, the onetime Max Headroom says, "I'm sort of in a wait and see mode." Here's hoping there's a lot less waiting and a lot more seeing of the Aussie dog catcher in season four.

'Battlestar' actor cast in 'Eureka'

Battlestar Galactica's James Callis has joined the cast of Eureka, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor, famous for playing Dr. Gaius Baltar, will appear on Eureka's upcoming fourth season as the mysterious Dr. Grant.

His character, whose return to his hometown raises alarm, will cause friction when he takes a romantic interest in Allison Blake.

Callis has previously appeared on Numb3rs and will guest star on ABC's FlashForward when the series resumes later this month.

?Eureka—Fourth season debuts Friday, July 9, at 9PM (ET/PT)—Eureka kicks off its 4th season with the introduction of new series regular James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) as "Dr. Grant," a former resident of the town whose unexpected return is cause for serious alarm and, considering his romantic interest in Allison Blake (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), significant friction with Sherrif Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson). New and returning fans won't want to miss the big changes in store for everyone in the small town of Eureka after a cataclysmic shift turns their lives upside down. Eureka also stars Joe Morton ("Henry Deacon"), Erica Cerra ("Jo Lupo"), Neil Grayston ("Douglas Fargo"), and Niall Matter ("Zane Donovan"). Co-creator Jaime Paglia and Bruce Miller are Executive Producers. The series is produced and distributed by Universal Cable Productions.

Fan Favorite Wil Wheaton To Guest Star on Syfy’s “Eureka“

Actor, author and blogger Wil Wheaton of the popular television series Star Trek: The Next Generation and the classic film Stand By Me, has signed for a guest starring appearance on the 4th season of Eureka, one of Syfy’s most popular original series. The new season is slated to return to Syfy on Friday, July 9 at 9:00PM ET/PT.

In episode 403 of Eureka titled “All The Rage,” sci-fi fan favorite Wheaton plays the brilliant Dr. Isaac Parrish, head of the Non-Lethal Weapons Lab at Global Dynamics. Parrish’s dry wit and superior attitude make him a thorn in Fargo’s (Neil Grayston) side — with potentially disastrous consequences. The episode featuring Wheaton is scheduled to air on Friday, July 23rd.

New York, New York – March 15, 2010 – Production begins this week in Vancouver on season four of Eureka, one of Syfy’s most popular original series, it was announced by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Development, Syfy, and Co-Head Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. The dramedy’s new season welcomes an all-new regular cast member, James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) as “Dr. Grant.” Syfy has ordered 20 episodes of Eureka, which will once again be shot entirely on location in and around Vancouver, Canada, and is slated to premiere on Friday, July 9th of this year.

“WWE® is the ultimate in imagination-based sports entertainment. The fantastical thrills of Friday Night SmackDown provide an ideal addition to the Syfy slate, as it targets the younger male and female demographics, which are the fastest growing categories for WWE,” said Dave Howe, President, Syfy. “With Tuesday night, a proven winner for our original drama series including Warehouse 13, there is bigger opportunity for series such as Stargate Universe, Sanctuary and Caprica to thrive on a night with a significantly larger number of viewers available to watch live.”

Ignore for a moment the SGU implications. Any idea what this will mean for when EUReKA comes on? They just moved it to Friday nights last year.

DigiFluid
April 14th, 2010, 11:04 AM
Well, Eureka always did great on Tuesdays so I suspect it'll mean just returning to its old timeslot. And really, SGU shouldn't factor into this, since it's a fall show and Eureka is a summer show. Though there may be some overlap if they do the summer/fall airing like they did last year.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the summer lineup will be Warehouse 13/Caprica on the same night, and as those come to an end, Eureka on alone until SGU starts up, and then Eureka/SGU Tuesdays.

Sounds like winning combinations to me.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK—"Eureka," Syfy's popular original dramedy series, has cast actor Jamie Kennedy ("Ghost Whisperer," "Scream" trilogy), for a guest appearance on the show's fourth season. Eureka is currently being filmed on location in Vancouver, B.C. Syfy has ordered 20 episodes of the series, which will premiere July 9, 2010 at 9PM ET/PT. Kennedy joins a lineup of previously announced guest stars including Jaime Ray Newman, Matt Frewer and Wil Wheaton.

Jamie Kennedy will play Dr. Ramsey in the episode entitled "The Story of O2," directed by series star Colin Ferguson. In the episode, Sheriff Jack Carter (Ferguson) leaves Eureka to visit his daughter Zoe (Jordan Hinson) at Harvard while the town celebrates Space Week. A new self-propagating oxygen technology developed by Dr. Ramsey in order to potentially colonize on Mars mysteriously begins to build up in the atmosphere above Eureka threatening to incinerate the entire town. The episode is scheduled to premiere Friday, July 30, 2010.

“Eureka” and “Warehouse 13” Team Up For Crossover Episodes

CROSSOVER EVENT STARTS ON WAREHOUSE 13 TUESDAY, AUGUST 3, AND CONTINUES ON EUREKA FRIDAY, AUGUST 6

Warehouse 13’s Allison Scagliotti visits the town of Eureka. Neil Grayston of Eureka visits Warehouse 13

New York, NY – May 19, 2010 – Warehouse 13 and Eureka, Syfy’s top scripted series, are joining together for the first time ever for a pair of crossover episodes this summer, it was announced today by Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Development, Syfy, and Co-Head Original Content, Universal Cable Productions.

In the episodes, which are currently filming, Douglas Fargo (Neil Grayston) of Eureka’s Global Dynamics is sent to Warehouse 13 to help update its aging computer system. This triggers a seemingly sentient computer virus that sends the Warehouse into lockdown and traps the team inside. The Warehouse 13 episode is entitled “13.1” and will air on Tuesday, August 3, at 9PM (ET/PT).

The Eureka episode entitled “Crossing Over,” will air on Friday, August 6, at 9PM (ET/PT). Warehouse 13’s Claudia Donovan (Allison Scagliotti) pays a visit to Eureka, hoping to see some amazing technological wonders. She gets more than she bargained for when seemingly random objects begin appearing around town. Working with Sheriff Carter (Colin Ferguson) and Fargo, Claudia has to help solve the mystery before the strange anomalies have deadly consequences…particularly for newcomer Dr. Grant (James Callis).

Rene Auberjonois (Boston Legal and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) will guest star in the Warehouse 13 episode as former Warehouse agent Hugo Miller.

Mini-review from Maureen Ryan (behind spoiler tags because it's slightly spoilerish for tonight's ep)

Year after year, I tend to like the same things about "Eureka" -- Colin Ferguson as the sheriff keeping the scientists in the top-secret town in line, the quirky residents, etc. But I tend not to watch it after the first few episodes of each season, because it tends to travel somewhat repetitive storytelling roads (i.e., every week, science goes awry, then science is used to fix what went awry). This season, James Callis ("Battlestar Galactica") has a recurring role as the mysterious Dr. Grant, and the way in which he arrives in Eureka has long-term consequences for the characters. I like the implications of that bigger arc, which promises more depth, which "Eureka" needs. Yet Callis' attempt at an American accent is shaky and unfortunately seems to deflate the rest of his performance.LINK (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2010/07/three-minireviews-the-glades-eureka-and-haven.html)

There is a big game-changing twist coming to "Eureka," and the show isn't wasting any time introducing it as it pops up in the first two episodes of the new season, which begins Friday on Syfy.

'Eureka' is back - - and it's better than ever
About.com Rating 4.5 Star Rating

Unbelievable! With "Founder's Day," the season 4 premiere of Eureka (July 9, 2010 on Syfy), we finally encounter that most elusive creature in the history of science fiction: a production team that's kept their hands off the reset button.

Conventional wisdom holds that the weekly series format mediates against change from week to week, yet drama depends on change and conflict within a story; the most hackneyed way of reconciling these opposites is to undo radical change at the end of the episode and make it all like it was (pressing the reset button). In the past even Eureka has been guilty. But not this time.

'Eureka' takes a wild, wonderful ride; 'Haven' flawed

Syfy relaunches its Sci-Friday nights this week with the return of fan favorite "Eureka" and the series premiere of "Haven."

Both shows delve into the mysteries of the secretive towns in which they are set with a light touch that works for "Eureka," but doesn't seem fitting for the new series based on Stephen King's "The Colorado Kid."

"Same Eureka, different day," says Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) in "Founder's Day," which opens the whimsical show's fourth season at 8 p.m. Friday.

Well, it's not quite the same "Eureka." Series co-creator, writer and exec producer Jaime Paglia and his team retain their perfect mix of humor, pathos and action that has kept viewers wanting more, but they change things up in a big way, thus opening the show to new viewers while still delighting old ones.

I can say without a doubt that the first two episodes back are the finest I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

Colin Ferguson, Jaime Paglia promise 'best 10 episodes' of 'Eureka'

The episode ends with an awesome twist that exec producer-writer Jaime Paglia and star Colin Ferguson, who plays Sheriff Jack Carter, that reboots the show in exciting ways. They promise a season of surprises, as a matter of fact.

"The entire 10 episodes were sort of filled with this sort of new sense of 'Well if we could do this, then we could do this. And if we can do this, then we could do that,'" Ferguson said when I asked about the fresh direction. "It made for probably the best 10 episodes we've done."

Paglia agreed, saying that everyone involved in the show has found a renewed energy this season.

"Everybody has just been so excited by the opportunity and they're all doing their best work," he told me. "I don't think the show has ever looked as good. I don't think the stories have ever been as compelling. And the performances just across the board by everybody have been really phenomenal."

'Eureka' producers talk Felicia Day, James Callis of 'BSG' talks time travel

Big things are happening on Syfy's "Eureka," which revealed a time-shifting plot when its fourth season began earlier this month.

At Comic-Con, I spoke to the executive producers of the show, Bruce Miller and Jaime Paglia, about the serious consequences of that change to the show's dynamics (the main characters were shifted into 1947, and when they returned to 2010, their town and lives were notably different).

In the video interview below, they also spoke about the casting of Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton in the second half of the show's fourth season (the episodes featuring both Wheaton and Day, who had announced their "Eureka" episodes just hours earlier at a panel for "The Guild," will air early next year).

I also spoke with James Callis, who joined the show in Season 4 as the mysterious Dr. Grant, who traveled from his time frame, 1947, to 2010. As you no doubt know, Callis played Gaius Baltar on "Battlestar Galactica," and in the video clip below, he talked about the challenges of doing an American accent. He was told to study Cary Grant, and he also watched '40s movies to prepare for the role.

Well, 4.0 ended in early September so at a guess I should think it'll be part of the January-March block.

I'm hoping, anyway :D

Killdeer
December 8th, 2010, 10:39 AM
I would like to think so, but I think they would have announced it already if it was coming back in January. :( They've already announced their other winter programming, Being Human, Merlin, etc.

DigiFluid
December 8th, 2010, 10:44 AM
Well Merlin is an import so I think we can throw that one out right away as far as reasoning out what'll be in the winter block. Being Human is new, and they generally pair up new series with established Syfy originals. January will also be 4 months since Eureka went on hiatus (discounting the Xmas special) and that's their break cycle length generally.

And then there's the fact that there's no Eureka on the Syfy site's schedule past Xmas Eve--they'd have to work out the schedule for originals and repeats.

I still think it'll happen, personally.

Killdeer

I hope you're right. My cynical side says that they figured out during the writers' strike that they could get two "seasons" for the price of one and we won't see 4.5 until summer. But I'd love to be wrong about that. New Eureka in January would be fantastic. :)

From the article:

"We're all disappointed," Colin responded when we shared your concerns. "We're disappointed too. We'd love to be on a show that aired year-round, or 22 episodes. So the fans' feelings are echoed [but we] don't have same resources as a major network."

One thing I've noticed is that I haven't seen anything yet about how many episodes were included in the S5 renewal. When the show was renewed for S4, they said it was supposed to be for 22 episodes (which was later cut down to 20 for reasons unknown). But nothing's been said about how many episodes will be in S5. I'm hoping that means that they're going back to the 13 episode seasons like they did with Sanctuary. If they're going to insist on keeping Eureka as a summer-only show, I'd rather be able to count on 13 episodes every summer than this 8-10 episodes per summer thing we've been having since 2008. :S

Absences make the heart grow fonder?

Familiarity breeds contempt?

At least the way Syfy (and most cable channels) schedule their series, you get 10 NEW episodes in a row - then a mid-season hiaturs - and then 10 NEW episodes in a row (or however many remaining in the last half of the season).

With Broadcast channels, you usually only get multiple new episodes in a row at the TAIL end of the season for May sweeps. Personally, I hate getting a 2 new episodes, followed by a repeat, followed by a new episode, followed by two repeats (or a preemption), followed by 2 new episodes, followed by repeats... ARGH!

I didn't see a Actor News & Appearances thread for Eureka so I figured I post this here. Colin Ferguson will be guest starting on TVland's Happily Divorced in an episode called Peter's Boyfriend.

Here's a sneak peek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FK1mMFwCTU
and
Here's some articles about it: Yahoo! TV Exclusive: Colin Ferguson to guest on 'Happily Divorced' in January (http://tv.yahoo.com/news/yahoo--tv-exclusive--colin-ferguson-to-guest-on--happily-divorced--in-january-030411013.html) and Yahoo! As of right now I have no idea when this episode is suppose to air because the episode on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 10:30 pm EST on TVland is a rerun according to Zap2it.com and the episode on Jan. 23 doesn't fit the the describe of the episode he's supposed to be according to IMDB and Zap2it.com but TVland (http://www.tvland.com/tv-schedule/2013-01-16)and TVGuide (http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/happily-divorced-2013/episode-20-season-2/peters-boyfriend/326231)say it will air Jan. 16 at 10:30pm EST so my guess is Zap2it and IMDB are just not updated on this episode yet.

It should be on TVland's website the Saturday or Sunday after it airs if you miss it when it airs. You can also find more times for Peter's Boyfriend here: http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/happily-divorced/tv-listings/326231.
