    Astro Boy

Great News. The popular anime is coming to us in CG/3D form. For those who don't know the franchise:

Astro Boy (????? ,Tetsuwan Atomu?, lit. "Mighty Atom") is a Japanese manga series and television program first broadcast in Japan from 1963 to 1966. The story follows the adventures of a fictional robot named Astro Boy and a selection of other characters along the way.

Astro Boy is the first Japanese television series that embodied the aesthetic that later became familiarized as anime. It originated as a manga in 1952 by Osamu Tezuka, who is often reputed as the "god of manga". After enjoying success abroad, Astro Boy was remade in the 1980s as Shin Tetsuwan Atomu, known as Astroboy in the United States and other Western countries, and again in 2003. In November 2007, he was named Japan's envoy for overseas safety

An American computer-animated 3-D film based on the original manga series by Tezuka will be screening in theatres on October 29, 2009. So, for all the "anime purist" hopefully you'll give it a chance when you see the Trailers.

And great thing was I found the series on DVD recently for around $25 at Future Shop (like Best Buy in the USA)! Got it and now my two kids are hooked.
I also didn't realize how complex some of the story lines where! Probably just didn't notice since I was a kid when I first watched it.

          COMIC-CON: ASTRO BOY'S KRISTEN BELL

          Spoiler:

Kristen Bell, who provides the voice of Cora in the Astro Boy in the upcoming CG-animated film, said her character has a lot of layers.

"She has a really tough exterior, and she's kind of hurt and a softy on the inside," Bell said in a roundtable interview. "And they actually explore that in the movie and you understand her point of view and where she's coming from."
You can listen to the whole interview HERE

I don't know what it is, but when they take a perfectly fine drawn anime and turn it into a CG movie, something tells me that the US film franchise is going down. The voice-acting and storyline might be great, but I'm getting awfully tired of all the CG movies that are coming out. I read about an anime called Appleseed that looks hand-drawn but is really CG--why can't US films be created in that manner, instead of using CG that always looks the same?!

              Sorry for the rant...

Yes I was thinking that too. Then I saw the trailer in the theatres when I took my daughter to see Ice Age. It was awesome! I don't mind the CG at all.
