Haha, so it was real. Ok then...

Today was our final day of spinning on Stargate: Universe and we finished in impressive fashion, breaking not one but TWO stories. The first, episode #10 is mine (Carl is especially excited about this one) while #11 falls to Paul. Ticking clocks, twists and turns, alliances, betrayals, and a surprise guest! And, just like that, we have our first 10 stories in play.”

Episode #11 is still in its initial outline stage,

As for that new episode title I promised: Divided.

I think 11 is part two of the mid-season two-parter. Episode 10 (Mallozzi's) is the first.

Hmm, I wonder what kind of hiatus they are going to have for the mid-season. I think with SGA's past success with their 2nd halves the last 2 seasons, there might not be any.

I say no as divided is past tense not present. Sounds like a minor thing but Divided and Conquered doesn't make much sense.

BSG RIP-OFF!

Possibly, but then again with the situation both these people and the fleet in BSG get placed in tensions are bound to rise between various camps.

A mutiny story was one of the first speculated, the whole Military, Science, IOA factor is too good an opportunity to miss out on...its what Voyager should have done with Starfleet vs the Marquis but they obviously chickened out.

BSG continued the friction and I hope Universe handles it in its own way and doesnt make them into "one big happy fleet" in the episode after.

Out of the main cast who will side with who, the 4 Military will obviously band together, unless something happens, as will the Science and Political members, again unless something happens. This will be the real drama though who to trust as people may switch alliegence even those you thought would stay loyal (ie members of the military siding with Rush for example)

April 8th, 2009, 07:02 AM
Is this actually gunna be a two-parter, cos I know the titles are not everything, but unless the two-parter is the ship is flying around in SPACE in part 1 ,and then the team been DIVIDED in part 2, i cant really see how the episodes are linked.

I thought that the mid-season 2-parter would be a good time to introduce an enemy that is totally awsome (not a couple of actors dressed in halloween costumes, although i do love the wraith as a bad guy).

Maybe these enemies could place like a homing beacon on the ship some-how, so they follow the Destiny everywhere, increasing the tension of the team knowing they are been constantly hunted, as well as there been no way home.

Wat dya think?

"Marriage" actually is pretty plausible, though I doubt it'll be used. Maybe they'll do something similar to Farscape, with one of the crew marrying an alien princess(or prince) in order to get protection from an enemy or something. :p

I think the first half of the season will explore the varying alliances of the people on the ship, and Divided is where it all comes to a head and the line is drawn in the sand between 2 or more sides, so to speak.

It seems to be the most simple explanation.

My writing partner Paul continues work on Divided. According to him, there’s a lot of story and he fears the script may go long. Which would be par for the course.

Small update:

Well, in addition to the gift-getting, I did manage to squeeze in some Stargate-related work. Read Paul’s first draft of Divided (loved the Eli-Rush head-to-head) and Brad’s pass on Justice (He dedicated the opening scene to me since, as Paul pointed out, it’s something would do. I’m touched.),

I was, of course, hyper-vigilant throughout the notes session on Carl’s outline and Paul’s first draft of Divided, then while we watched Brad’s cut of Water (Awesome episode with, again, some really wonderful character moments and performances. Young-Scott, Young-Rush, Greer-Tamara, Chloe-James, Eli in general),

Update:

Rob will be doing the pass on my script, Space (episode 11), this weekend and informed me of a few character additions he wants to make off the top (which tie in directly to Justice), in addition to a dialogue tweak to the final exchange that had me raising an eyebrow in stunned silence. I love both of these characters, and this little revelation raises the stakes, offering a beautiful segue into the next episode, Divided.

Nothing is quite as it seems? Try – No one is quite as they seem. Furtive moves, shifting alliances, and hidden agendas guarantee a dysfunctional and disquieting galaxy-hopping community.

Well I didn't audition for anything quite yet, but that may change in the near future( I am starting to get into acting, though I know your severly disappointed, please keep reading and I will explain). I did however manage to get my hands on a call sheet( kinda like a filming schedule). It says what scenes are to be shot what days, and better yet, a short description of the scene. I only got a 3 day schedule so it was hard to price things together, but I got the just of it. Pretty cool stuff. That's also how I knew who was directing the ep.

Go for what.. oh acting.

Well I read off a comercial for the people at this organization called AMTC. It's a giant orginazation, it's what got Megan Fox and people like her into acting, believe me, its pretty big, it's no scam. If your good enough, they ask you to join, they train you, lecture you, raise you up, point you to auditions, and best of all, they set you in front of some of the most inportant people from Disney, Nick, MGM(hey, they are involved in stargate, right :p), 20th Century Fox and so on. If they like your audition and you, they have one of their agents sign you. That means I could get hooked up with MGM which could mean a stargate audition.

Fortunately I got a callback from AMTC and was offered to Join.

Yesterday, we watched the director’s cut of Divided (Episode #12). It’s tight! Yes, producer edits of Space, episode #11, which I wrote, and Divided, episode #12, that Paul wrote. Both are going to be great and while Space will no doubt get the most online buzz in the lead-up to its airdate (for reasons that will become readily apparent as more hints about this episode are released), I think Divided is the one that really sings. It is taut, suspenseful, filled with intrigue, and offers up some terrific dramatic performances by many of our cast.

No. That might have been a factor but the crew has been dividied (Rush vs Young) since day 1.

True, for now they have all (even Rush) accepted that Young is they man in charge...they may not all accept that anymore and thus a "Divided" crew forms. I'm not saying they want Rush to replace him, just have him removed.

Maybe it is something else though, just an idea.

Something that developed. At the beginning, it was pretty clear that no one was on Rush's side. By the time the chair was found, alliances had shifted (not that Rush is looking for allies).

In almost any situation when you find out a leader appointed himself judge, jury and executioner and then covers up the evidence to make secret what he did I think most rational people would cry foul and try to find a more qualified leader.

If anyone is appointed new leader it would be Wray, and I wouldn't doubt that if Young's idiotic move is made public she'll try to get that position.

Although, Rush could just blackmail Young to get his way. I don't think Rush cares who is in charge, he just wants to be able to do his thing with as little objection as possible!

Not saying I like Wray as the leader (I really don't), although anyone would be better than Young I think, but she is the logical choice if someone else is chosen.

Stargate Universe: Divided

The first time I watched Divided, I was struck by two things: that the episode feels more like a continuation of Space than a wholly separate episode, and that after the events of the episode life on board Destiny would be markedly different. The episode is primarily focused on the characters and the consequences of their choices – both those they are making in the here and now, and choices already gone by...

Because people are unoriginal & anything that is blue & moves in a Movie or TV Show gets the Smurf nick name. Just about all fandoms use it

I was just thinking about the possibility of an attemped coup, and can't help but think it would be a huge tactical mistake by the civilians. Instead of instigating a physical confrontation, why go on strike instead. Sure, the military could lock them up, but without those scientists co-operation, nobody is going home. In any conflict, it's all about the leverage you have, and how you use it.

In thier mindset they see Young as "killing" Rush because he just does not like Rush. The civilians don't know about the crime Rush commitied. So in that context they fear Young will cause great harm if they don't what he wants. Obviously they are quite wrong but you know what happens if you jump without all the facts

I wonder if they'd care or would agree it was wrong for Rush to try to remove Young from command. Given the attitudes, I think some of them at least would agree with his action, Brody and Volker to name two.

I'm more then certain to some it wouldn't matter. To some it doesn't change their stance on being Rush or Young supporter. But some of those fence sitters may be more inclined to support Young because of the crime Rush commited

Well, I'm sure if "the civilians" would stop co-operating, there could be found ways to make them co-operate, like for example shooting one civilian. Your proposed way of approaching things has many disadvantages as well. Personally, I find the way of locking away "the military" in separate compartments of the ship one of the better ideas. In a way "the civilians", more specific "the scientists" use their knowledge to stage the coup.

Well, like you say, they suspect it, but actually knowing it happened, and more than rumors, is another thing. Now Rush has not confirmed their suspicions, but instead he lied and collaborated Young's story. :)

Maybe a coup will end with a little bit of balance in the leadership, accountability. Young is accountable to nobody.
-Disobeying General O'Niel's orders and in a disrespectful way (shunning good guys on Earth)
-Using Eli to spy on crew and hide evidence (no hide his murderous motive)
-Executing those on Destiny that oppose him (trying to)
-Cheated on his wife

I don't thing Young or Rush have the moral character needed to command without accountability, if anyone would. A mix up "could" end with a better balance.

Eli is young, inexperienced and following the orders of the commander who he alone knows tried to kill the last person that opposed him. Can you blame him? That being said, he did show some internal opposition during Space and it even spilled out during that tense battle scene.

Which is why I find it strange that he would still, at the end of the episode, show the Kino recording of Rush and Wray to Young. He could just have removed it, or "forget" to tell Young about it. For me, this is something that will have to be addressed in this coming episode (Divided) or another. I wonder if Eli will end up on the "military side", or on the "civilian side". I bet he will have to choose sides...

Yeah, but there's also the relationship with Rush, as in he saved her, and they will both be having nightmares. Also, there's Eli. And there's the thing that Chloe doesn't seem all that enthusiastic about Matt anymore. I think there all lots of different factors. Which will surely make this episode an interesting episode to watch. However, I bet there will be a lot of complaint again about too much "drama" or too much "characters I don't care about" etc. Which I think is too bad. Yeah, but there's the nightmare connections with Rush. The alien abduction. I'm just saying she isn't as opposed to ending up on Rush's side as she was before. :)

And does she really love Scott? I mean, sure she likes his company and comfort and they are "in love", but real love? It's not that I cannot accept their relationship or that I find it unbelievable or whatever. It's just: I don't think the relationship has fully matured... I think we haven't seen enough of their relation to conclude that, nor to say anything else, mind that. :S

I don't see how Eli is a factor in what side Chloe will choose. Although he is one I'm not quite sure on. Eli could go either way.

You can just ignore the Chloe-Eli relationship. Let's ignore the possible romance and all, there's still a decent connection and friendship there. She relies heavily on him for company and comfort. No? If there's the Eli-Matt friendship, sure there is Chloe-Eli friendship. It is still a triangle, and not in the romantic meaning of the word.

I personally don't see that. She seemed to still care for him in Life and thier hasn't been many scenes with them since that episode.

I was talking about the latest episode, Space. Seemed different to me. At least the story or camera's focus, and moment's focus was different for me. However, there's a point there. There haven't been many scenes since. And maybe that could mean something? OR not. :S Personally I'd like to see some ramifications of the fact that Matt and Chloe jumped into their relationship. And this seems like a good time.

Oh yeah, that's okay, I wasn't saying or implying that you said that there weren't many factors. :) I just said what I thought. :)

What I don't understand is "your instinct based on the situation". I mean, won't this episode totally change things? So how then can you know "the situation"? :)

Does seem like a character driven episode. :) I agree, wouldn't be SGU without the character moments, but still, I wonder if there will just be character moments, or if the episode will actually be character-driven. The main plot seems to be the mutiny, but there are other story elements as well. For example, the nightmares. The left-behind alien pod. The Young-Rush subplot. Will it be resolved, worsened... Then there's "the life-threatening consequences" and the possible return of the aliens?

I think its just a concidence. Thier was so much action thier wasn't exactly time for any scenes. It was about fighting the aliens and Scotts and Chloes positions on the attack. I'm not against a rift the relationship but I don't see anything in the story indicating it

What I don't understand is "your instinct based on the situation". I mean, won't this episode totally change things? So how then can you know "the situation"? :)

Well it is not the actress' fault. That is how she is written. Look at Greer, he hardly spoke in the last episode. But I do think he will get more focus this episode tonight. Chloe might also.

I don't remember saying anything about the actress, but yeah, I'm foreseeing some Chloe focus in Divided...

Greer is a good example - after the first few episodes, I was irritated, are we really getting the "angry-black-guy" stereotype? But he is definitely more than that - we are getting more and more as time goes on, and he is becoming a really fascinating and compelling character.

Chloe reads so easily as the "helpless-pretty-girl" - I'm hopeful she, too, will become more.

So he was hardly useless.

I think of Greer as SGU's answer to Teal'c and Ronon, a honorable tough guy.

No no, was just adding a thought of mine to your post. I know it was not what you said. But I do know some people may blame the actors, but it could be the material they are given.

I know this is slightly off topic, but on the topic of Greer, aren't we supposed to get a more Greer-focused episode soon? (Probably should answer in spoilers.)

Lost, which will be episode 15 of this season. So a few weeks from now.

I'm hoping for a big TJ episode soon (Bigger than Time and Water, at least). That gal deserves it.

Who is bashing? A lot of us say she is flawed and has nothing to do, if that is bashing, then might as well just lock up this entire forum since they will not allow any discussion at all. I've even defended the character and actress that it is the lack of material she is given by the writers/producers.

Also what was said is that she may have a significant role in this episode tonight. So this could be good for her character.

Despite Choe being my last favorite character, I'm totally going to become rabid-supporting-of-Chloe-fan! soon if you guys don't stop saying stuff like that. She teaches yoga to Eli! She has good qualities!
the more anti-Chloe stuff I read, the more I look for something else in the character :) I'm interested on what side of the 'divide' she'll come down on

You know, I liked Keller (I think in great part because I love the actress that played her), and I very much liked McKay, it just was McKay/Keller I didn't like. I wanted her to end up with Ronan, sigh.

Anyway - go Chloe!

I hope she kicks ass in some upcoming episode soon. I vote for an alien beat-down of some type. Rush can teach her how.
maybe she taught Rush? Didn't she clobber Rush already?

Are you mocking the power of yoga? You are, you are mocking the power of yoga.

guys like to mock the yoga...and then they do it, you know, mostly because we've egged them on. Then they REALLY hate it :D

Apparently the mods don't like this turning into a live discussion thread. Which is strange because they have always allowed this in the past.

WOW, I did not expect the aliens back so soon. Come to think of it, it makes sense why Rush told Eli they'll need the shields. I bet Rush summoned the aliens.

let me remind folks that spoilers for hte episode need to be kept out of here, and this thread will be shut down as soon as the eps is over....since if we don't, people just can't quite grasp 'take the discussion to the official thread' ;)

oh, and chloe bashing....no acceptable ANYWHERE. so give the 'find something you like and spend your time there' angle please.
