How do they sustain this for a whole series?

I get the premise for Dollhouse but how do you maintain the premise for a whole series without it becoming stale?

I'll go with it but I think what they do is a bit extreme.

I mean I read about one assignment where they need a biker chick, so I'm thinking why go through this whole brain wipe process and such? Why not just hire a real biker chick to do the assignment and keep your assets for higher priority assignments?

yeah but I'm thinking it's overkill to use one of the "dolls" for an assignment like the one I describe when you could just hire a biker chick for the client.

Well that is the whole flawed logic in this poorly conceived show. In short, they don't have to worry about sustaining for a whole series as it is likely to be canceled/not renewed at the end of the season anyways. So enjoy while it lasts.

Not really because they could hire a biker chick would she really be willing to do what ever client fancy doing, and if it a biker girl good enough to keep up with him going around track or racing on the road I doubt you find biker girl as fit as echo and who single and willing to do anything the client wants.

That kind of assumes there is no such thing as a good looking escort who knows how to ride a motorcycle? Huh?

Sorry, but after watching 3 episodes I think I have had enough of this show, the whole logic of this show is just so horribly bad. Joss Whedon needs to seriously just give up trying Science Fiction for good and stick to writing shows for teenage girls.

It is sad and pathetic that Gateworld went ahead and gave this show it's own section BEFORE it even aired, while numerous other better Scifi shows have none. Sad that Gateworld is sucking up to the cult of Whedon...this site should be better than this!

Got any tips on where to find one, I sure it be would it just easier, if you have the technology to programme any whole of the shelf girl for the job and then use her for a other job the next week and a other one after that..

I agree with this statement it does seem he just decided to give it it own area and it not even that popular on gateworld their does not seem to be much activity. Why shows like Supernatural, Fringe or even 4400 never got their own are. Still do not get why their Firefly one. May be they need a dead scifi series zone.

The whole problem starts with the fact that it boils down to supply and demand. They offer a supply that has truly very little demand. Last episode was such a stretch of believability. There is a flawed logic that every answer only leads to new questions. Is there truly the need for this doll to be both security guard AND a singer, that a simple ex-cop could not have achieved? The problem with the flawed logic is there is an assumption that these dolls do a job that could NEVER be done by mere mortals.

I think everyone needs to just acknowledge what has already been admitted in interviews from a while ago. The whole "concept" of this show was done merely for Eliza as more an infomercial for her range of acting abilities. It seems pretty apparent to me that the real motivation behind the concept of this show is more for her to show off than have come up with a truly original and creative concept. In other words they simply built the show around the idea of her to showcase her acting rather than building upon any creative concept or idea. Instead of simply focusing on ways to have Eliza take on different roles, they should have spent much more resolving flaws. In the end I just can not help but overcome the feeling that the whole show was conceived in an afternoon. This is truly just not GOOD Science Fiction, but merely Pop SciFi.

Just like how the Ghosty show is built around Jennifer Love Hewitt's skimpy outfits and bad acting........

Actually didn't they do this with the rather mediocre "Tru Calling"

I only tried to watch the first episode of Ghost Whisperer, and lasted about 80% through. I am still amazed to this day that this show is still on. As for Tru Calling, after watching the first couple of episodes it was easy to see that show was not going to last...and surprise it didn't. Then again, except for a rare couple of exceptions, almost all broadcast network TV is stale, bland, watered down garbage. The only truly entertaining, and creative, shows are now coming out on networks like FX, USA, Showtime, HBO, etc.

I actually think if this show was done by FX, Showtime, or HBO it would be much better a they would most likely not hold back on the juicy scenes or the uses of the dolls as sex toys.

                          I actually enjoyed tru calling.

It found its feet in the last few episode of season 1 and the 6 episode that were produced for season 2
