Air #1, #2, and #3 are prepped and ready. Water awaits a polish. Brad reports he should have a first draft of Fire sometime next week. Martin awaits word on Earth while elements of Time accumulate and coalesce in Rob’s mind.

Take that, PG. :p

Finally, after all this TIME we have a new episode title!

Some past hints:

PG-15 writes: “1. Who is writing episode 6?
2. Who is writing episode 7?
3. Who is writing episode 8?
4. Who is writing episode 9?
5. Has the director schedule for Universe been lined-up yet?”

Answers: 1. 6 = Martin Gero. 2. 7 = Robert Cooper. 3. 8 = Alan McCullough. 4. 9 = ? 5. Nope.

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2008/12/23/december-23-2008-montreal-bound/

Well, back in the office today where we spun what will be episode #7. It made sense for it to follow the events of Earth, so we moved it up and shifted the other episodes. For those of you worried, fear not. The mid-season two-parter will still fall in the mid-season two-parter slot.

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2009/01/30/january-30-2009-jean-georges-comes-to-vancouver/

Rob has had his hands full, dealing with prep issues, but, in the interim, has been spinning episode #7 in his head. This one promises to be a lot of WTF?! fun.

Or it could be an episode of flashbacks wherein we learn more about the ship, why it was created and so forth.

:: shrug ::

Or flashbacks to flesh out the main cast.

Who knows.

I'm still waiting for Ether to be announced at one point or another.

Although I'm starting to think that the single word title naming system could get old very fast.

February 17th, 2009, 08:16 PM
im think it has to do with the time limit of missions since the ship will inevitably leave people behind....maybe this is the first time they learn that or the team gets abducted and only has to get back before they leave...
and i dont care wat they name the episodes as long as they are good

Dammit PB, what did I ever do to you?!

*Plots revenge; oh yes, I will has it*

:p

A "race against the clock" episode is definitely possible. I just hope it isn't like 38 Minutes that, once you know how they get out of it, it loses its appeal (sorry Whumpers!). I still love time travel so out of all the possibilities I can think of, I'd vote for that.

Or a flashback. A story told in the past about how the ship came to be would be AWESOME, especially if it lets us see the Ancients "at the height of their civilization".

The key here is that it would "make sense" after an episode called "Earth", and be full of WTF fun. Hmm...

And yes I overreacted, a little with time travel stories. I don't mind time travel stories but they have been done so much lately. I won't race against clock story I generally like those. Maybe something like they x amount minutes until they will unable to dial the Destinty and Gate is severly broken or the team is captured with Villagers A. The possibilities are endless

Hmm... Well, I doubt anyone expected Stargate SG-1 to do as well as it did... Anythings possible:)

I'd be happy with an enjoyable series worthy of replacing Stargate and BSG now that they're both gone (or will be soon), because otherwise there'd be a really big sci-fi shaped hole for me.

I bet the season finale'll be called 'Death'. And the season 2 opener 'Life'. :)

I don't mind the one-word names as long as it doesn't become the norm for the whole show. One of the things I don't like about Smallville is how every episode has a one word title, which just makes them unmemorable. Ask me what my favourite SG-1 and Atlantis episodes are called and I could tell you easily. Ask me for Smallville and I'd just draw a blank.

Hey, I read the first draft of Time yesterday (Rob apparently wrote it during his free time driving to and from work every day) and it is brilliant. Now “brilliant” is a word I tend to reserve for works of supreme magnificence like Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus” or my Aunt Fannie’s Russian Teacakes, but it applies here to a script that is, without a doubt, the very best of its kind. It’s delightfully intricate and thoroughly engaging, full of surprising twists and heart-rending character moments.

No. The plot for Ice is that Lt. Scott's team is attacked by mysterious aliens off-world and when they escape back through the Stargate the Stargate is hit, causing it to overload and while Ronald Greer and Eli Wallace are sent back to the Destiny Lt. Scott and Chloe Armstrong are sent to an ice planet. It's not before later they discover they were sent to the Destiny's refrigerator.:p

Time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

Now you always say
That you want to be free
But you'll come running back (said you would baby)
You'll come running back (I said so many times before)
You'll come running back to me

Oh, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

You're searching for good times
But just wait and see
You'll come running back (I won't have to worry no more)
You'll come running back (spend the rest of my life with you, baby)
You'll come running back to me

Go ahead, go ahead and light up the town
And baby, do everything your heart desires
Remember, I'll always be around
And I know, I know
Like I told you so many times before
You're gonna come back, baby
'Cause I know
You're gonna come back knocking
Yeah, knocking right on my door
Yes, yes!

Well, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is

'Cause I got the real love
The kind that you need
You'll come running back (said you would, baby)
You'll come running back (I always said you would)
You'll come running back, to me
Yes time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
Time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
Oh, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
I said, time, time, time is on my side, yes it is
Oh, time, time, time is on my side
Yeah, time, time, time is on my side

I think "Time" will be about the Destiny moving on from their region of space when the team is either :

(A) In a shuttle

or

(B) on a planet with a Stargate where they are cut off from the gate or have to hike back a fair bit from where they are to the gate in order to gate back to the Destiny before it moves on from their region of space/galaxy.

Possible spoiler? :

If the Destiny's count-down timer is displayed or activated some where the ship, like the Bridge, surely the they would have timers with them set to the ship's count down so they can get the hell back to the Destiny before it leaves/moves on? :P

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2008/10/04/october-4-2008-septembers-top-reads-following-through-on-your-recommendations-and-the-return-of-the-mailbag/

“Hey, wanna go check out a cannon?”Marty G. asked as me I strolled by his office this morning. Would I?! Faced with the unappealing option of resuming work on my beat sheet, I happily took him up on his offer and joined him in heading over to Stage 1 where we wandered amongst the various goodies in the works. The cannon. An entranceway. The engine room.

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2008/05/09/may-9-2008-my-stargate-memento-wish-list/

As they started blocking the Ava-Sheppard scene in a different part of the park, we headed back to the Bridge for lunch. By the time we were done, so were they – having moved over to the studio for the Sheppard-Nancy car scene. I strolled over to Stage 2 and caught Martin Wood finishing up one of the final scenes for Trio. As he yelled “Cut!”, a dirty and disheveled David and Jewel popped up and were immediately ushered out for a quickie shower, hair and make-up session. I wandered over to neighboring Stage 1 where the parallelogram and green screen had been set up for that climactic scene. The director yelled “Action” and the actor lifted off, arms and legs scrambling as his body was buffeted by the high winds. A couple of takes and I was out the back, swinging around and over to Stage 6 where they were setting up for the Woolsey scene from The Last Man…

http://josephmallozzi.wordpress.com/2007/09/21/september-21-2007/

I then headed over to Stage 1 where Andy was shooting a jumper scene for Lifeline, then over to Stage 2 where they were putting the finishing touches on the Traveler’s set.

Major update!

Well, it was beautiful, sunny and warm outdoors today, but overcast, dark, and rainy indoors. Specifically, I refer to the indoors of Stage 1 where Writer/Executive Producer/Series Creator/Master Chef Robert C. Cooper was directing Mayhem Day on the latest Stargate: Universe episode – Time.

Carl and I visited set after lunch, arriving just in time for the most important part of the production = the crucial standing around waiting to set up the next shot portion of the process. I acquitted myself nicely, standing around with the best of them (I feel the need to point out, however, that Carl did a lot of sitting). Eventually, Carl and I grew weary and headed back up to the offices, determined to return for the big action sequence.

Carl and I headed back down and I ended up spending the rest of the afternoon in the jungles of Stage 1, snapping TONS of pics – which, of course, I can’t show you. You’ll just have to take my word for it: they’re very cool. Or contact the studio and the network and ask them: What’s the hold up?

And some pics!

Update!

The quiet suspense of today’s shipboard mystery was in marked contrast to the gloomy, dank, heavy ordnance-laced mayhem of the preceding days. And it’s just as well. My teeth are still chattering from the M5 barrage that lit up the shadows of Stage 1 the last time I dropped in. Yes, some delightfully creepy goings-on in Time (a Robert C. Cooper joint that completed shooting yesterday) that will no doubt look all the more delightful and creepy once the episode is finished. By all indications, the cast enjoyed themselves immensely – particularly actor Jamil Walker Smith who was reveling in the cold, wet, and muddy conditions. Now, we shift focus from the dark and dangerous alien environment of Time to the shocking discovery and troubling developments presented in Justice.

After lunch today, we sat down and watched the director’s cut of Time. Hoowee! What a ride! Great script, great direction, and great performances all around make this one of the stand-out episodes of what has thus far been an overwhelmingly solid first season line-up. A special shout-out to David Blue (who wasn’t on set when I swung by this afternoon to congratulate the actors on a job well done) for a performance at turns humorous, commanding, and touching. And, of course, an extra-special congrats to Robert C. Cooper who wrote, directed, and produced the episode. A mention:

Anyway, when production got underway on Stargate: Universe, I was most impressed with many of the choices David [Blue]made as an actor. He would deliver a line in just such a way or add a certain look or bit of business that had the producers smiling if not laughing out loud every time we screened dailies. Yes, very early on we established that David had great comic timing and that, as the overwhelmed Eli Wallace, he would serve as the point person for many viewers who will connect with his fish-out-of-water character and experience the dangers, adventures, and far-flung journey of discovery through him. Yet, as the season progressed, David was challenged, his dramatic range tested, and he delivered every time – to the point where, now, some of his more heartfelt moments (ie. Time) stand as some of my favorites. Yes, he can do funny. And he’s proven that he can do touching. But can he bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies? That’ll be his next challenge.

It's a very interesting episode written by Robert called "Time," where they
go to another planet, and when they get there, they find one of these alien
balls. They find footage on it, and they are all dying on it. And that's
where the teaser ends.

A mention:

David Blue dropped by the offices today to chat character development with Carl and I. We talked about Eli as the grounding force who’ll offer the fish-out-of-water perspective many of the viewers can relate to. Despite some early fan suggestions that Eli will be little more than a Junior McKay, the truth is that, aside from the fact that they are both geniuses, the two characters don’t have that much in common. In fact, if one were to compare Eli to past characters from the franchise, the one he lines up closest with – and thank you, Carl, for pointing this out – is O’Neill. Yes, similarities to Jack, certainly in his sense of humor, but more cautious, less sure off himself – charitable, enthusiastic, thoughtful, and extremely loyal. Oh, and incredibly likable. Of course a lot of that (if not all of the aforementioned character attributes) stems from David’s wonderful performance. I knew he was good when we hired him yet he’s managed to even surpass those lofty initial expectations. His turn in Time still leaves me shaking my head in amazement.

Time: To those asking “When are we going to have our next alien encounter?” – be careful what you wish for because this episode provides the answer in creepy, mind-bending style. As producer on the show, I watch the individual episodes so many signs I’m honestly well weary of them by the time that final mix comes around. Time, however, is an exception. This is one of those rare episodes I’ll actually watch when it airs. Fantastic – but not for the faint of heart or weak of mind. As my second grade teacher Mrs. Vowels used to say: “Put on your thinking caps” because this one could bruise your brain.

I have a feeling that this episode will actually generate a lot of positive spin as it seems to encompass so many elements that many have complained about. Just as we (well some) rightfully expected "Earth" to generate negative comments, I hope and expect this generates positive comments as well. I saw an interview with Robert Carlyle talking about this episode a while back, and have eagerly anticipated this one ep.

Of all the secondary characters, it looks like Riley and Volker appear in the most number of episodes this season. This is great since they're my two favorite secondaries. If Rush is in fact holding his own Skull man thats really creepy and the guy is just fascinated by the prospect. Those aliens look awsome i wonder is some will come thru the gate and kill all aboard Destiny, man that will be awsome to see and leave only Eli help fix the future.

PS Notice the Destiny doesnt have a shield or Iris, I like it, helps the suspence or danger that you cant prevent someone from gating in like SGC or Atlantis, i hope it stays that way, a good change from the other shows, and good plot device.

Anyways, this episode looks awesome, moving away from just simple resource collection (though from the promo pics they are there to find some edible food), and having some more technological aspects balanced in with the character development. Stargate Universe - Episode 1.08 - Time - Press Release

Visiting a newly discovered jungle planet, the crew is amazed to recover a Kino by the gate. Downloading the Kino data, Eli (DAVID BLUE) discovers video of the team, which appears to have been shot during an earlier visit. The mystery of the video’s origin becomes a secondary concern as members of the team start falling ill. Unable to return to the Destiny for fear of spreading the infection, the team sets up camp in the jungle to try to isolate the infection there. Little do they know that when night falls, the illness will be the least of their worries.

Any show needs variety, IMO. After an episode like "Earth", which didn't seem "casual-viewer-friendly" to me, you need an episode that is a little more accessible to a broader group of viewers. From what I know about it so far, "Time" appears to be that kind of episode.

At the same time, I think there will still be stylistic differences from SG1/SGA.

Nothing can kill The Riley. Seriously, add the "The" before his name, and he's immortal. Think The Chuck off Atlantis, and The Walter back in SG-1.

I've watched each episode at least twice, thank you, and read numerous articles on GW, and every single post on the discussion threads for previous eps, along with every post on this thread. I make it a point not to write about things I don't know. ;)

And there can only be one plot, anything else is a story arc. A plot is, to quote, "The general course of a story including significant events that determine its course or significant patterns of events." The show's tagline is "The only mission is survival". If I misunderstood that, please explain it to me. :)

EDIT: That was a serious request, not sarcasm. Just so you know... :D

Once again Rush and Eli are head and shoulders above the rest of the cast (Crazy Rush going through the gate, and Eli opening up about his mother). Still nice stuff from TJ and Greer in this episode too. Also have to give Scott props for the final transmission scene, that was pretty sweet.

Overall though I think I'm in favor of eps that don't have any Earth sub plots. No communication stones = better episode.
