Bloody Disgusting say GHOST RIDER 2 is out to writers.

Columbia Pictures are moving ahead with a sequel to the 2007 Nicolas Cage movie which earned $228 million worldwide from a budget of $110 million.

It was enough to call the movie a success and director Mark Steven Johnson looks to be getting a sequel to this Marvel character, unlike DAREDEVIL which despite it’s problems was a far superior film and had lots more room for sequel improvement.

WHYYYYYY!!!! Sure, I was one of the many who went and saw it at the cinema - and found it lacking everything that the trailer had. Then again, I would see a sequel, so you could say it was a "success", lol. What on earth can they do with the plot now??

Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2, Wants More Horror In Potential Sequel

News about the potential sequel directly from the Spirit of Vengence himself.
Nicolas Cage is planning to reprise his 2007 role as Johnny Blaze aka, Ghost Rider. Cage told MTV News that a writer is currently being sought for the follow-up.

The sequel, may see the biker from hell battle evil in Europe alongside the Catholic Church is still in its early stages. A director is also needed for the film. Mark Steven Johnson, co-writer and director of “Daredevil” and the first “Ghost Rider” film, seems like a likely candidate for either role in the sequel, Cage said nothing’s been decided so far.

“Everyone is very busy. I know Mark has his own thing going on,” Cage told MTV, “It’s up to the studio. It’s really in their hands.”

When asked which elements the sequel should include, Cage spoke tentatively given the early stage of “Ghost Rider 2? development. He did, however, point out the importance of some signature Ghost Rider themes.

“It has to have that action horror element and go deeper into that if it were to happen and [it should] keep us asking questions. Keep it interesting on a philosophical level,” said Cage.

Well hopefully this Ghost Rider will be more true to the comics, and not have Mephisto be the actual devil, though Peter Fonda is very Satanic and evil.

daredevil and ghost rider were both good, but this johnson guy seems very good at taking what should be really cool dark characters and sucking all that out of them, and making them overly clichéd, difficult to love movies.

I can't explain why I like Cage. I just do.

So do I! However, I didn't like the first movie, despite having him in it everything else in the movie was poorly executed. It was sad to watch him work with that script and it just didn't have that energy and agony you'd expect from a character in that situation I felt.

Now watching him in something like 'National Treasure' for a well paced and fun filled action movie and 'Lord of War' for a marvelous portrayal of a 'souless' man is what Nicholas Cage can do with a great script and direction, in my view anyway! :)

I hope this sequel, if it happens does more justice to the character and the situation he finds himself.

New Ghost Rider 2 Details

Last we heard from the “Ghost Rider 2” camp, Sony and the star of the 2007 film, Nicolas Cage, were still looking for a writer and director to helm the sequel. A well-known comic book fan, Cage hasn’t been shy about sharing his thoughts on where the studio should go for the sequel and his plans to reprise his role as Johnny blaze, the human side of the Spirit of Vengeance.

While discussing his role in the upcoming CGI/live-action family film “G-Force” (Cage will voice one of the movie’s guineau pig heroes), the actor told MTV News that he’s looking less toward “sequel” and more toward “reboot” for the next “Ghost Rider” film.

“I would like to do a reconceive,” Cage told MTV News. “I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that’s what they’re talking about.”

According to Cage, he’s still leaning toward a “Ghost Rider” movie that brings the skull-faced Marvel Comics hero to Europe for a team-up with Catholic Church. Oh, and there will be significantly fewer galloping horses and six-shooters in the follow-up film.

“I would make it much less of a Western and more of an international story,” said Cage of the direction he’d take the character for the next film.

Goyer in talks to write 'Ghost Rider 2'?

David S. Goyer has reportedly opened up discussions about writing the story for a Ghost Rider sequel.

The Dark Knight scribe is said to be considering working on a second instalment of the superhero franchise for Columbia Pictures, which would also involve his supervision over other writers on the Marvel Comics venture.

Goyer's spokesperson announced that the 43-year-old has not officially signed up for the proposed project. However, the studio plans to utilise a script that he had written years ago, Variety reports.

Ghost Rider star Nicolas Cage is believed to be reprising his role from the 2007 film.

The actor said earlier that he would like Ghost Rider 2 to be a reboot rather than a sequel to the original movie.

Video: Ghost Rider 2...Planned for Years!

The plan is to "polish" the script before they start production. Why the need to polish it? Apparently the plan is change the movie from an R-rated movie to a PG-13 one. I'm sure right away you're probably groaning. But the reality of it is if it's R-rated, less people will be able to go and less money it would make.

Goyer: 'Ghost Rider 2 not a reboot'

David Goyer has revealed that the follow-up to Ghost Rider will be a sequel rather than a reboot.

According to the screenwriter, the film will be set eight years after the original and take a darker tone. He also stated that Nicolas Cage is still attached to reprise his role as protagonist Johnny Blaze.

"It's not exactly a reboot," Goyer told MTV. "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What Casino Royale was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to Ghost Rider."

The film will be based on a treatment that Goyer wrote some time ago, which has already appeared on several websites. Filming is due to commence next year.

"This story picks up eight years after the first film," he added. "You don't have to have seen the first film. It doesn't contradict anything that happened in the first film, but we're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film. It's as if you took that same character where things ended in the first film and then picked it up eight years later - he's just in a much darker, existential place."

De Luca outlines 'Ghost Rider' sequel

Producer Mike De Luca has lifted the lid on the follow-up to Sony Pictures' superhero movie Ghost Rider.

In an interview with Collider, De Luca revealed that the sequel will carry the subtitle Spirit Of Vengeance and serve as a series reboot. He also confirmed that the film will be based on a script penned by David Goyer in 2001.

"Goyer has just delivered that outline to us in the studio and we're waiting to hear back and then we'll know if we can go to that revised script," he said. "But since we're starting from something already written, it's been a pretty speedy process."

Nicholas Cage has been tipped to reprise his role as Johnny Blaze but Eva Mendes's character Roxanne Simpson is "not part of the sequel". According to De Luca, the project could begin filming this year.

The producer also expressed an interest in bringing in Goyer to helm the venture, should his schedule allow it. "I'd be excited to have that conversation with David if and when we get up to that point and schedules permit," he added.

A potential release window for Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance is yet to be announced

Nic Cage Talks Ghost Rider Sequel

While at Wondercon this past weekend, comic book movie veteran Nic Cage briefly commented on the change in tone for the sequel to 2007's Ghost Rider. When asked if the film will go for a [hard] R rating, Cage said:

"I'm not sure, I liked the first one a lot. I liked what Mark Steven Johnson did with 'Ghost Rider'. It was sort of, like, if Walt Disney had taken Faust and had made one of his spectacular fairy tales out of [it]. But you can't really do that with kids, because of the subject matter"

"I think that 'Ghost Rider 2' tends to go to a darker, harder edge," Cage continued, "but we'll see what happens. It's also more international."

'Crank' duo for Cage's 'Ghost Rider 2'

Crank duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are in talks to direct Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider sequel Spirit Of Vengeance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the star and filmmakers are in early negotiations to make the Marvel Comics picture, which centres on a stunt motorcyclist who pacts with the devil to save the life of a loved one.

Reports emerged earlier in the year claiming that Columbia Pictures was considering making the second Ghost Rider without Cage.

David Goyer and FlashForward writers Scott Gimple and Seth Hoffman worked on a script for the sequel, but Neveldine and Taylor are expected to rewrite it should they sign up to make the comic book movie.

Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance is being eyed for a production start this autumn.

Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2!

The Ghost Rider and Kick-Ass star gives an update on the upcoming sequel and shares his thoughts about the rumoured directors...

"I'm very excited about those two," Cage told MTV News when asked about how he feels about Crank directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor helming the sequel. "They're originals, and they know how to make a movie look great, and they know how to use the camera. And I think they'll have a fresh, a very fresh take on the character."

However, it seems like the sequel may be a reboot of sorts although Cage didnt exactly reveal too much about the direction the film might take, "It's a different trajectory, but it's still the same guy. That's all I can talk about! I'm not knocking the first one, whatever people think," he went on to explain. "I stand by that movie as well. I thought it was like a Faustian fairytale, like, if Disney were to make a movie about Faust, it would be in that vein, like a Western and a little lighter."

As a general rule I almost always prefer PG-13 movies to R ratings, always have...but especially as a parent. Adding lots of bad language and nudity to a movie doesn't add anything to the types of movies I like to see. If it is violence and language in a realistic war movie, that's different...but I still prefer PG-13.

I'm looking forward to this sequel, the less western more international theme sounds pretty cool...darker sounds good too!

Eva Mendes has revealed that she will not be returning for the upcoming Ghost Rider sequel alongside Nicolas Cage.

Superhero Hype confirmed the news at a press junket yesterday for Mendes's new film The Other Guys.

"No, unfortunately," was Mendes's response to whether she would be reprising her role as Cage's love interest Roxanne Simpson in the tentatively titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, due to begin filming this November.

It is unknown at this stage whether the part of Roxanne will be recast or if the studio will instead use another female character from Marvel's Ghost Rider comic book series.
