The only thing they did was save Sheppard. He had the nuke in and if Atlantis never sent the team through the gate, or if Atlantis never arrived at Earth, the nuke would have still gone off and destroyed the ship. So basically in teh episode, obtaining the two extra ZPMs, using that wormhole deus ex machina, and sending a team into the hive ship was only to save Sheppard.

Well, technically, even if Atlantis HAD stayed put, and they did happen to dial Earth, they could still have rescued Sheppard from the Hive. I think they were going to Earth to add their drone's firepower to whatever Earth had left because afterall, the hive had already blown through 3 Deadalus Class Battlecruisers pretty easil so who knew what Earth's drones would have done.When the time comes to utilize Earth's best weaponry against an ailen threat. Atlantis showing up saved the team!!!!!!
That was one of the major points of the show. If Atlantis didn't show up when it did the team would have detonated the nuke thus killing themselves in the process.
The whole point of that was to point out that the team cannot survive without Atlantis and Atlantis cannot survive with out the great people that man the city. They are oneComment
