Intergalactic travel problem [Lost tribe spoilers]

In The Lost Tribe the Asgard said that they lost their intergalactic ships in a battle with the Wraith and didn't have the resources to build new ones.

Solution 1: Capture a Hiveship or Wraith cruiser and modify it's hyperdrive from interstellar to intergalactic. We know it's possible, the Asgard most certainly have the knowledge to do it and if we can capture Hiveships so can they. (for example they could find a Hive that is on the ground and overpower the Wraith guarding it with their battle armours. This should be easily especially before the expedition form Earth arrived and the Wraith were hibernating).

Solution 2: McKay said that the Aterro device used an enormous ammount of power unlike anything they've seen before... the Asgard could bring a gate to that planet and use the Aterro device's power source to make an intergalactic connection to a Milky Way gate

Solution 3: Infiltrate Atlantis and steal the ZPM and control crystal (assuming they can't make one themselves) to make an intergalactic connection via the Stargate.
So why didn't they solve the intergalactic travel problem ?

They didn't want to leave Pegasus, they wanted to stay and study the humans there to solve their cloning problem. When they said they lost their intergalactic ships, I think they were referring to the fact that they were their most advanced ships, and with them gone they could not effectively fight the Wraith or build anything like as advanced as they would have been able to had they survived.

Assuming that their ships are at least as fast as Ha'taks, it would have taken them about 100 years to get to the Milky Way even without intergalactic drives.

well 1: they didnt want to leave.
2: after the wraith attacked, atlantis was still submerged by the ancients and manned by them, and under siege
3: they didnt know where attero was
4: they needed neutronium. which they didnt have anymore after their colonies were gone. once attacked, they were at the point of no return: the other asgard would punish them, the ancients would deliver them to the asgard, they didnt have enough neutronium and not enough ships to attack and defeat the wraith.

My assumption was they also lost the personnel needed to build an intergalactic hyperdrive. While each asgard is uber smart, they can't know everything about every detail of their ships. while I would expect in ten thousand years for them to relearn they were hiding.

They were out of resources, even if they knew how to, even if they had ships to; they wouldn't be able to.

They're not stupid. We dont keep the plans to build nimitz class carriers on our nimitz class carriers.

Why wouldn't they want to leave ? They could return to the Milky Way and resume their experiments on humans in secret (the Asgard had a small presence in the Milky Way, they didn't find Loki without our help). By the way... I'm curious as to why they don't leave now not thousands of years ago after they arrived. None of the methods of intergalactic traveled I proposed require neutronium. They knew were Aterro was before they kidnaped McKay and Jackson and they also learned the location of Atlantis because of that subspace beacon. So they could have stolen our ZPM if they wanted to.

If they were determined to leave the galaxy they probably could have found a way. But with the Wraith hibernating etc...it would be very easily to experiment. Although there's always the threat of the Wraith finding them and exterminating them.

my guess is they didnt know where janus lab was located. its obvious he had several labs scattered around.

and not knowing where each lab was a problem.

not to mention they may not have had all the details about the attero device untill they found the lab where the attero device was used from and found out what it did.

Subtle hint the crews of Nimitz class carriers can't build nimitz class carriers.

neutroium just might be it though. it explains why the SGC had a large supply of it.

First off the Pegasus wanted to stay in Pegasus due to them being able to do there experiments on humans, They did not want to move back to Ida due to the Asgard there dissaproving of there methods.

Also they could not go to Atlantis due to the fact Janus programmed the Atlantis gate only to accepts earths address until wears arrival See "Before I Sleep" for that info. So they could not go to atlantis for whatever reason by stargate
