So apparently evil Furbie/ Tribbles are an aphrodesiac?

They also remind me of the moties from "The Mote in God's Eye (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mote_in_God's_Eye)".

a very funny episode.

the double entendres were running rampant, i don't know how the actors said some of their lines with a straight face.

the nubbins were cute, a mixture of tribble and Furbie although they were where some of hte effects broke down a bit, but hey, no biggie

it was enjoyable

and next week....sekrets will be revealed :D

Hee, I giggled my way through most of this episode, it was very fun to watch.

Loved all the character moments, Will mimicking Helen's accent, Ashley being so taken with the nubbins, Henry being so proud of his uber-vacuum, as well as the Henry/Ashley, Will/Helen, and Will/Ashley scenes caused by the nubbins. I especially liked the last Will/Helen scene with Helen's 'turnabout is fair play' and 'you poor thing' lines. :)

I also liked how they incorporated Sophie and her gift into the nubbins' storyline. I hope we see more of her, if not this season then hopefully the next. :)

I can't wait for The Five next week, it looks amazing.

I lol'd at the 'don't you just wanna squeeze them' line...

I love Henry - which means he'll probably die. All the characters I love die. But I am very impressed with Ryan's ability as an actor - he's quite amusing, isn't he?!

This was a fun episode, even with the gore. I usually don't like gory stories, but this was nicely balanced with a bit of humor...and then there were the flirty bits that just had me squeeeeeing! NOT because I want to see a ship or anything, but because it was so NOT right! The only thing missing was Bigfoot making doe eyes at Will, seeing as how everyone else was...

LOL I don't know... I think the Magnus women have excellent taste when it come to Will :D :p I'm glad they explained why he will not be wearing glasses... at least they explained he now has contacts. :D

It was a fun episode!! And yet serious at times when Helen and Will were checking on the woman who was coming to terms with her new found "abnormal" ability. I am betting we will see her again. LOL I'm sure Henry hopes so ... lol he was too funny.

I don't think you have to worry about Henry dying. He is funny and there seems to be more story ahead for him :D

I can't wait until the Five next week The preview said Helen chose to be like she is!!! Interesting!!!

Oh boy, wow, I just saw Nubbins and all I can say is I WANT MORE HELEN AND MORE SANCTUARY http://i425.photobucket.com/albums/pp337/Rocky89_03/helenmagnusanifj5-1.gif

The episode started with us hearing Helen/Amanda's voice, which is always a good start :), we find the team on a ship, they found some dead bodies on the ship, and Helen finds the remains of a friend of hers named Eric, then they find a room which the believed to be some kind room where the abnormals were kept. The team is being watch by a dog-like creature, and then they find a few broken cages, and one cage with a couple cute little critters in them :D. Then the big bad dog-like creature, the Predator comes out if being invisible, and Helen and Ashley shoot it with tranqs, then it cuts to the credits.

I'm not going to put in too many spoilers so I'll just say, the whole episode was awesome, I loved seeing the whole Sanctuary team working together to truck down the Nubbins, but what was so great was all the Helen screen time :samanime20:. I loved all her whit, charm and and DAMN GOOD LOOKS in the ep :danielanime05:. I loved the scene with her and Will in her office, in this scene, I felt another connection to Amanda, just like in the pilot when she said her "Massive leap of faith" line, here, when he came in he said to her "Do you have something against sleep?" As soon as he said that I thought of Amanda, and her bad habits of not getting enough sleep and having all of us worrying about her health :(. And why does she do that, working like 16 hours a day? Oh that's right, it's because it's what she loves doing, and it's for the fans :). After that, things got a little hot in there :samanime51:, and Helen looking as hot as she did in that scene really help to the mood :zelenka25:. I knew what was happening between Helen and Will had something to do with the creatures, but I'm looking at Helen and I'm thinking "Oh God she's beautiful", which she is.

A little later, after the Nubbins go bad, they try and hunt them down, Helen finds out that the Nubbins are producing pheromones, and Helen asks Will if he's noticed anything different, Will says "I'm making you Randy" or something like that, and I'm thinking "Yeah, she does that to people, mostly guys"

Anyway, after they realize cold is the thing that can stop them, they're able to put them away, and the episode ends with close up of Helen's face, excellent ending IMHO :).

I hope you're right about Henry. He's SO much more interesting and fun than Ladon.

Unfortunately, Will doesn't do much for me (looks-wise) - I like the character, though. But he's too average-looking for my tastes. Right now, Druitt is on the top of my hotness list, followed - oddly enough - by Henry, then Bigfoot. :D

Great episode tonight. It had a lot of funny moments in it. In the beginning, I kind of thought the Nubbins were going to pull a "Gremlins" on us. They proved me wrong, and I enjoyed things more because of that.

i really enjoyed the ep! :D

(so far, though, 'kush' has been my fave)

the helen/will scene was handled very well. i was a bit worried on that (will looks like he's 20 something), but i liked the way it was handled. and that weird music they played through it (when certain ppl were feeling frisky) just cracked me up. :p

of course, my only complaint is MORE HELEN. :o

the ashley/will scene was funny.

the girl that could sense things (erica?); while i liked the actress fine enough, i think she slurred her words sometimes. made it hard to understand her at times.

what lovely pets the nubbins would make. :p

henry is funny.

I just finished watching it for the second time, and it was even funnier then the first time around. :p Every scene Henry was in cracked me up. Starting from his talk with Ashley about her Nubbins (flops in the gutter), to "Women and geeks first...Oh, no wait, that's all of us", and everything in between.

At first I was worried about the whole Helen/Will thing (not a shipper), but I think it was handled very well, very...subtle, unlike Ashley/Will :p (loved the butt scene btw ;)). But I did like the fact that we got to see the sexier unapologetic side of Helen. Will is uncomfortable, but she's having fun. :D

Bring on "The Five"

Henry totally stole the show! The whole thing with Ashley's 'nubbins', and jumping up on the ledge after injecting the predator thingy, and walking past the infirmary to check out the 'new girl', and - well, just everything! He was the highlight for me in this one - just made the show!

LOL, I loved Nubbins! It kept me laughing throughout the show. I have to agree Henry stole the show :D I also have to give credit to the actors for being able to keep straight faces when delivering some of those lines :P

The show was well written, well directed and the acting above par, Kudos to everyone :D

nubbins was one of those eps...had you felt the actors were taking themselves seriously, it would have sucked. the lines would have been too OTT and too cheesy.

but everyone seemed to have the right amount of 'we're having fun' and not taking themselves seriously and it worked. I laughed out loud and i'm glad that the 'libidenous (i think i would have wet myself had he used that term) tones didn't lead to anyone taking any actions. too much baggage for that to happen

I do think, however, that 'nubbins' could be analogous to 'fishing' ;)

I absolutely loved this one. It had me laughing the whole time....
I really liked Kush, but I think this was my favourite so far. I really liked the humour bits, but I also liked the bits with Sophie. I thought the fact that, outwardly at least, she doesn't seem to be an "abnormal" added to the story. We've mostly seen "monsters", for want of a better term, and I liked the addition of Sophie.
I loved: "a few cups shy of a tea service", and "don't you just want to squeeze them?" LOL.
My sis and I were actually joking about "libidenous" when we watched. I think I would've died laughing if they'd actually said it.
Just wondering: does anyone know if next week's ep is called "The Five" ? 'Cause that's what it called last night's ep on my PVR, but I know it was Nubbins. Thanks!

I never really expected to enjoy Sanctuary -- it just seemed like an excuse for the producers to show off how well they can use green screens. But I'm hooked! I really needed a good laugh (it's been a really tough week) and "nubbins" provided plenty of them. Henry is such a wonderful character and was hysterically funny in this episode! I wonder who came up with the title? And those adorable little fur balls -- no doubt inspired by Star Treks tribbles, but with a touch of Monty Python vorpal bunny as well -- turning out to be aphrodisiacs was a truly inspired little plot twist.

Next week promises to be a lot more serious and very interesting.

It was obvious that all the actors were having fun and not taking themselves too seriously.

There were so many good lines, but I think my favourites are -

"Oh, I never do..."

I seem to be in the minority in that this was the first episode that I haven't enjoyed at all. I found everything about it overly obvious, from the entirely predictable plot to the really heavy handed and equally obvious jokes. And c'mon, furbies? Nubbins? Gak. The writing is frequently a little stilted, but I ignore it because I really, really want to see this show do well - this time, though...
But as I say, I seem to be in the minority. It's way more important that the audience as a whole enjoy it, than that I do. :) I admit, I am not un-picky...

Then I guess the problem is that I didn't find it remotely funny - although that 'women and geeks first' line was good - most of his lines were good, except for that nubbins bit at the beginning... Of course, SG-1 has spoiled me a bit on the amusing dialogue front. :)

Good episode. Finally starting to not totally hate Ashley, although she needs a haircut pronto.

The humour was good in this episode. I hope the empathic girl was set-up for something later on, else it didn't seem to fit in and was a bit pointless. Overall, it wasn't as strong as Kush, which really made me think the show has potential. It was a good episode though! I would've liked to see Helen dissecting a Nubbin! ;)

Nubbins was like Tribbles on steroids. Kind of fun (in a gory way) but I guess I found the "attraction" scenes and sexual innuendo to be extremely awkward and silly. I wish I'd seen the actors having fun with them, but I just thought they seemed embarrassed to say those lines! I found myself changing the channel during them and then switching back to see what was going on with the Nubbins once they were over.

Henry's "geeks and women" first thing *was* funny though. :D

Maybe the show just isn't my cup of tea. (Torchwood isn't either and I know tons of people love that!)

I rather enjoyed the Sanctuary premiere, but since then it hasn't really held my attention from a storyline perspective. And the characters aren't really grabbing me either. Will hasn't really gelled for me yet and I find Ashley very annoying. Henry is amusing though. I haven't found Magnus all that compelling either since the premiere. ( I have to give AT credit, though, I don't see "Sam" at all when I watch her onscreen!)

Perhaps I'll hang in there until next week as it looks like some valuable backstory will be revealed.

:)

The thing with comedy is it's very subjective, what some may find funny, others may not. So it's very difficult to write comedy for 'everyone'. I myself thougth the actors were having a fun with those lines (I don't know how they could keep a straight face with some of them ;) )

I did think of Tribbles with this episode, but I thought it surpassed them by far, I never laughed at the 'trouble with tribbles' but I sure did with at Ashley's nubbins ;)

I agree with everything you said. :)

Found this episode an interesting change of pace. I was a little concerned over the nubbins when I read about promo stuff but I laughed out loud a lot. Frankly, we could all use more of that.

Now I'm seeing what AT meant when she was talking about Helen being sexy and unapologetic. Laughed at Ashley checking out Will's butt.

Best part of all -- Henry! I officially love him. Loved the lines you mentioned. Also loved:

- I've got suction and I'm not afraid to use it (and blowing on the end of it)

- his bumping into the wall because he was looking at Sophie and then walking by the doorway to get another look ( I missed that on the first viewing)

- the name he called the nubbins ending with "invisirats"

- telling the nubbin his Mom was a sewer rat

- telling Helen to lie to him about the pain

- threat level to holy crap

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I also can't wait for The Five!

i'm going to say this, but i want to make a point that i'm *not* putting down the character or actor, but...

i said this on the sanctuary yahoo group, but i don't want too much focus to be given to henry. i've seen quirky or fun/funny characters get positive reactions from fans, and then suddenly that character is being focused on at the expense of the others (dr smith from 'lost in space' is the first example that comes to mind). i want this show to continue to be a drama, with tidbits of comedy thrown in, with the focus being on HELEN, will, and ashley.

i'm not meaning to be a damper on our fun here, just... guess i'm afraid of too much 'ooh, funny henry!' influencing the sanctuary ptb to the point that helen's reduced even more. :(

and that my friends is my number one issue with the show so far. not enough helen. :(

I also can't wait for The Five!

oh, gawd, me too!! :D

By the way, we got an intro by Amanda on the 1st showing and one by Emillie on the repeat.

was this on the scifi channel?

btw, did anyone see the almost porn add showing during atlantis and sanctuary? it was some blond bimbo asking ppl to call and talk to her... yeah, the camera work and the music, besides the incredible and subtle acting work of the bimbo, told us this was light weight porn. :weiranime33:

so, wasn't 'nubbins' fun! :p

while i was somewhat dreading seeing the helen/will scene, i'm interested in rewatching that scene the most. i liked amanda's acting in that scene because you just know helen's knowing something isn't right. :p the usual great work by amanda. ;)

i'm going to say this, but i want to make a point that i'm *not* putting down the character or actor, but...

i said this on the sanctuary yahoo group, but i don't want too much focus to be given to henry. i've seen quirky or fun/funny characters get positive reactions from fans, and then suddenly that character is being focused on at the expense of the others (dr smith from 'lost in space' is the first example that comes to mind). i want this show to continue to be a drama, with tidbits of comedy thrown in, with the focus being on HELEN, will, and ashley.

i'm not meaning to be a damper on our fun here, just... guess i'm afraid of too much 'ooh, funny henry!' influencing the sanctuary ptb to the point that helen's reduced even more. :(

and that my friends is my number one issue with the show so far. not enough helen. :(

Well said my dear :). I loved Kush because it was the most Helen in an ep so far, and I know I probably shouldn't say this, but even before the show started, Amanda was my one and only reason for wanting to watch the show in the first place, and I'm sure PTB would never reduce Helen's screen time for another character. And I know that because just because's Amanda's one of the PTB *YAY*, and you'd never hear Amanda say she want's more screen time to herself, I mean you'd never hear her say "Ok, now we need another big scene for ME." Quite the opposite actually, of anything, she tak screen time off herself, and give it to someone else. After all, you know how she hates watching herself on screen. I mean, sometimes I wonder if she did the SG-1 and Atlantis commentaries blindfolded :D. And God knows how she watched herself on the big screen for the Continuum premiere-- TWICE. It must have been torture for her :P.

oh, gawd, me too!! :D

OH boy, I can't wait, I don't want to jinxi it, but this may be the biggest Helen ep so far :).

was this on the scifi channel?

Nope, TMN ;).

btw, did anyone see the almost porn add showing during atlantis and sanctuary? it was some blond bimbo asking ppl to call and talk to her... yeah, the camera work and the music, besides the incredible and subtle acting work of the bimbo, told us this was light weight porn. :weiranime33:

The things the put on commercails during good shows eh? :mckay:

so, wasn't 'nubbins' fun! :p

And hot :samanime51:.

while i was somewhat dreading seeing the helen/will scene, i'm interested in rewatching that scene the most. i liked amanda's acting in that scene because you just know helen's knowing something isn't right. :p the usual great work by amanda. ;)

I just watched it and I loved it! The Nubbins were like psychopathic Tribbles from Hell... with more entertaining side effects. LOL

Great lines, and great effects with the animals- highly entertaining. Also, the new young lady is very interesting. I think she'll be back to lend a hand again.

The UK viewing just finished. So much fun. I have to kind of admit I was only half paying attention in the beginning because someone, I won't mention who, but someone named ann_sgcfan spoilered me with a bare-chested Will pic and my brain was willing the whole world to fast forward to that moment. Do you think the Nubbins can send subliminal messages through the television set?

Anyway, really fun episode and I'm glad it's been given that injection of humour. "Women and geeks first" floored me. As did "does anyone else think it smells like fried nubbins?"

I did enjoy the episode, but not sure I see the point of keeping them at the end though. I know the Sanctuary is all about finding and studying abnormals, but despite what they said the Nubbins did seem more like animals than sentient beings. Also IIRC they didn't say they where the only ones in existance, so it's not like they need saving from extinction or removing from their native lands as a danger to the other inhabitants.

It just seems a little unfair that they where keeping them chilled at the end seeing as it seems to have put them in a sleepy mode, a bit like keeping us half sedated for the rest of our lives.

Seeing as they need to keep them in this state to prevent them mating and they obviously can't be let out, maybe they should have returned them to their habitat.

the sanctuary, is for studying abnormals, abnormals aren't always human abnormals however. the nubbins had an interesting ability worthy of further study, not all things in the sanctuary are sentient anyway, the thing that killed will's mum for example.

I don't have this very deep thoughts as the some of you have...but I absolutely loved this episode...:D

Ashley and the nubbins...I think I would have done the same...they were so cute, but in the end very evil...:D

all the "romantic" scenes were awesome, I think the actors in it played it VERY well:D

I loved it that we saw a half naked Will and his bum...*goes to heaven* :D He is so HOT!:D *grins*

I do agree with Moussie that I don't understnad why they kept the nubbins...they could still be a danger in the end somewhere...you saw that they couldn't keep them under control in the ship...so there is always a danger of another outbreak...or they just have to keep two in seperate cells if they want to examine them...:P
perhaps Ashley has something to do with keeping them...coz they are so cute:D

That's it for me...no more thoughts...can't wait for the next episode...this show is REALLY addicting...

So apparently evil Furbie/ Tribbles are an aphrodesiac?

the nubbins were cute, a mixture of tribble and Furbie although they were where some of hte effects broke down a bit, but hey, no biggie
Ha! So I'm not the only one... :P

I was thinking "Furbble" before they were named. LOL

what an good ep, funny, exciting, mysterious, i knew the nubbins were evil all along!! like critters and mogwai :P
That was my one problem with the episode.... it was SO predictable. Quite enjoyable, but very predictable. I knew that the Nubbins would turn out to be the "bad guy" and that they were causing the "sexual tension". :P

But I still liked it. :D

it was predictible in a way but at least they didn't fall into the 'aroused humans have secks' pit fall. and it would have been nice to have seen the predators wipe out more of the nubbins although i did shake my head....they found cages that had been chewed through and still put the nubbies in a cage. although, if it wasn't for that plot hole, the show would have ended kinda early :)

1. Was it me or was Ashley the horniest one of the bunch?

2. Then again the "I've got wood" line did go over my head, then again it's not a phrase I use often myself.

3. Yep Henry was cool here.

4. ERica's story was coolish.

I found Henry's comments livened up the ep. His comic relief for me is reminiscent of Jack in SG-1 and though slightly off kilter sometimes, they provided a segue to move the dialogue or action along when it seemed it needed it.

As to Nubbins..well I'll have to say it hasnt ranked out Kush which so far is my favorite but the one liners in this one kept me laughing.

And please, tell me Ashley's 'nubbins' comments to Harry weren't hysterical?

I'm glad you mentioned Camelot! I thought she looked/sounded familiar. I liked her in that episode. Here, I was much more neutral, probably because I disliked the episode so very, very, much (sorry, folks that loved it...) and my opinion was tainted. If they reintroduce her character, I will be sure to remember Camelot, and not Nubbins, in connection with the actress.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that Sophie (played by Katharine Isabelle) was previously seen at the end of SG-1 season 9 as Valencia, the girl who pulled the sword out of the stone. When I first watched this ep I knew I'd seen her before, though it took a couple of minutes to remember which episode. By the way, I rather liked both roles.

As funny as Ashley and Henry are in the "don't you just want to squeeze them?" scene, I personally can't get enough of Helen and Will talking on the couch. We so rarely get to see Helen's sensuality and I love how it manifests in that scene. Also, the cute exchange later on when Helen explains to Will how the nubbins affect people. I was reading some gutterized smut fanfiction the other day, and I totally saw someone utilize the word "nubbins" in a totally NOT Abnormal Furby way. I dang near peed my pants I started laughing so hard!

The thing is, when I first watched "Nubbins", and I saw the exchange between Ashley and Henry, I laughed so hard because I instantly got the joke... but on consequent rewatches I was like, maybe I was just seeing things, it wasn't meant to be *that* way.... but now I'm like: "I was so totally right!".

On one hand I like how Magnus and Ashley seem to be on first-name basis with everyone they work (closely) with, but on the other hand it's not all that convincing with them all ending up dead (either before or after we meet them) and they aren't all that affected by them. Magnus I could understand because of her age and experience, but Ashley? Or even Will?

I do like how Magnus told Ashley to cover Will, since he's the untrained civilian. Yet at the same time you would think a former FBI forensic psychiatrist would have weapons' training and could defend himself. Even if not, I would insist on him getting the proper training if I were Magnus. Now he's just a liability and him slowly following them around on a ship with murdered people doesn't really make me feel any better. He should stick close to them and they should probably tell him a room (where the Nubbins and 'predator') is clear and that he should either join them or follow them into the room in the first place.

Oh and I also liked how Ashley and Magnus quickly changed their magazines to switch to tranqs.

It's nice to see a different side of Ashley when she's naming the Nubbins and talking about how cute they are, opposed to her normal 'ghoul' this and 'tracking/bagging' that.

I would have liked to learn/see more of Eric and I find it intriguing how Magnus avoids answering Will's question about a personal relationship.

Nice scene with Henry and Ashley and the Nubbins! Great acting by RyRo!

Ugh! Is this the first time Will starts doing his 'accents'? That is just so annoying and I really wish he had never started doing them. I don't care how much fun RD (and AT) has off-screen but that's not something you have to add to the character you're playing onscreen.

Is 'being a few cups shy of a tea service' an actual expression or something Magnus came up with? I like it, very her. Kind of like how Jack (Stargate SG-1) used three fries short of a happy meal.

Will has been really grating on my nerves in the last few seasons and I thought that maybe I could learn to appreciate early season Will more on the rewatch, but unfortunately I just keep noticing more things about him that I dislike. Like his introduction to Abnormals or other Sanctuary guests: "I'm Doctor Zimmerman. Will." Either just say you're Dr Zimmerman or Will. He did the same thing with the Morrigan, which annoyed me a great deal considering they were supposed to be his patients. Here with Sophie it makes a bit more sense, but he could just say "I'm Dr Will Zimmerman" or "Dr Zimmerman, but you can call me Will'.

The background traffic sounds are distracting, by the way, and completely unrealistic if you look at the size and setting of the Sanctuary from the outside.

Awkward scene with Will and Magnus. That first bit of music reminded me of Scooby Doo when they entered a scary house! Some great lines by Magnus. I think it's odd how Magnus and Will seemed affected by the Nubbins when sitting by the fire yet are completely unaffected the next day, when standing next to a bunch of Nubbins! I wonder if the same thing happened to Henry and Ashley earlier on, when she asked him if he'd seen her Nubbins or if that was just normal awkwardness. I'd like it to be the former, considering we learn more about Henry's background later on and how long he's been at the Sanctuary...

Oh and when Ashley comes asking about what's going on with the Nubbins and Magnus tells her about the babies, they clearly seem to have known one was female and the other male. Then why put them together in the first place? Kind of a stupid mistake to make...

Later, when Magnus is talking to Sophie I find it odd she tells her about the blood similarities and then tries to reassure her that the final results will be back in 24 hours. Why bother telling her anything at all and upsetting her? She could have just given her an update about the autopsy and say she's awaiting further results.

Awkward scene between Will and Ashley. I thought it was odd that she had taken the Nubbin out and to her room; you would think someone with her experience would know better. Same with then she was telling Magnus she was keeping it as a pet. I would have expected Magnus to tell her they couldn't be sure of the creature's nature. But instead Ashley is just cuddling with it in her room, without telling anyone!

Why does she have a man's shirt lying around? It was also kind of distracting to see Ashley's hands not fitting properly around the Nubbin because of the CGI. Also, it looked like his shirt wasn't wet anymore when she pulled it off? Yes, I focus on details when I don't like a scene! :P

Wow, is Biggie wearing more makeup than usual (or later on) when they're checking out the Nubbins' escape route?

I'm glad Magnus told Ashley she should have shown better judgment with the Nubbins but at the same time I feel it was a bit too late and she should have told her in the beginning the Nubbins weren't pets.

Nice moment between Ashley and Will, talking about the perfect Nubbin! :)

Not too impressed with the Sophie side story this time around. It gets a bit old and it's too bad we never saw her again.

I like the awkward scene between Will and Magnus when she tells him about the pheromones; she's so comfortable with her sexuality and he just looks like a nervous teenager. Wonderful acting. Normally I would applaud both performances but in this case I feel it's more down to AT than RD, since Will always looks like he's trying to be one of the cool kids unfortunately. His teen outfits aren't helping his credibility either. For some reason they fit with Henry but Will just looks weird.

I must say I've missed these Abnormal of the week stories. I didn't like how they did season 3, with a mix of both (arc and standalone eps) but after season 4 and now seeing these episodes I realize these were nice as well. With Magnus and the team trying to find out what they're dealing with and giving some background information, like the cultural meaning of the Nubbins or their hive mentality.

Nice scene between Will and Sophie. I wished they had kept Will more in that sort of capacity, rather than forcing him into being Magnus' apprentice because he looks much more suited and comfortable in the 'doctor' moments than apprentice role. It's not just how he looks but his performances are also more credible as doctor rather than 2IC of Sanctuary, in my opinion. He hasn't really changed much since these early episodes, no growth whatsoever. If possible, perhaps even the opposite.

"Women and geeks first!" I like it! Henry still has some of the best lines in these early eps and RyRo delivers them so well. I do wonder why he considers Will a geek though! Will certainly looks the part but it's not like he's very geeky. Unless he thought of him as a woman...

Magnus and Will finding the tracking device still confuses me. Every time I see it I think the Nubbins killed the predator, but then they turn the corner and there he is! But he was the one with the tracking device inside of him! And then he really is dead. Nice and gruesome.

"I've got wood!" *awkward silence* Even Magnus and Ashley give him the look! "... you know, for the fire."

Nice to see Will doing his detective thing again, with the thermostat. It's odd though that Magnus apparently didn't find (or look for) any notes from Eric that mentioned these things. You would think they'd keep logs about those things and she'd be smart enough to look for them. Then again, we didn't see them searching the ship for anything once they found Erik's dead body, a severed arm, the Nubbins and the predator, which was odd as well.

I like the solution with the distress signal and the fire extinguishers! The Nubbins all sounded so cute too, with those noises they make. It's also nice to see them again in the end of the season, if I'm not mistaken. Although that's only one, isn't it?

Anyway, it was a nice enough episode. Not as bad as I'd feared but that's probably because I was typing along with it and doing the laundry in the boring scenes... :o

So is it a scifi requirement that every show do a 'naked time' remake? As in something makes them libidinous which opens all sorts of worms.

All in all, not horrible. There are later season episodes that I do find far more 'bad' but it wasn't great either. Abby of the week, some good lines, and an interesting premise, but I just couldnt stop thinking tribbles + naked time = nubbins

I think it would have been better if they hadn't used the scene between Will and Ashley in her room. Or at least not the nubbin peeing on him and then her removing his shirt.

Yeah, the sexual tension was almost cringe worthy, at least to me. I don't find that kind of stuff funny, although I know others do. I just fine it embarrassing and painful to watch.

although, given their limited characters, beyond doing a girl on girl with ash and sophie, there was no one else to play up the tension with. henry is like ash's brother so will is the only other male (biggie isn't even an option) so i think Damian didn't really have a choice.

the only other pairing could have been henry and sophie, but it would have to had been him perving on her because her empathy and the way she was cast made her more innocent and in secure than sensual.

this was one of the best in season 1. i loved the scene with ashley and her nubblins, the scene where henry vacuums the nublin and of course "i got wood".

as for the plot, yeah a lot of shows have episodes like this. and the idea of the nubblins obveously comes from tribbles ;).

I like this episode for different reasons. At some points, the suggestiveness is really subtle-- subtle enough the first time I saw it I was like "wahoah, what have we here?" but then the second time was "i'm not sure it was intended to be that way. Case in point was when Ashley and Henry were looking at the nubbins in the cage, and she's all "they're so cute! don't you just want to squeeze 'em?" and we are treated to a view of Henry via a grazing boob shot of Ashley. Then Henry gives that deadpan look of his, and I bust out laughing.

I also like it because it's very clearly an "early" episode. You know, those episodes where we can tell (post-current season) that TPTB are kinda experimenting, putting their feelers out, seeing what works and what doesn't.

It's almost like watching a creative process happen, and I love that sort of thing. It's we're being taken along for the journey. :)

That's one of my favorite scenes. I liked the one with Helen and Will too. When I first saw the nubbins I thought of tribbles and that they looked a little "fake" so I wasn't sure about this ep but as the story moved along and the predator appeared, and strange occurrences I did like it.

Here's a youtube video dedicated to this hilarious episode.

The song is "That's Amore" by Dean Martin.

Nubbins are tribbles with faces, ears, and a technological upgrade!

The Beginning shows Helen/Ashley different philosophy on abnormals. Helen wants the dangerous abnormal alive, Ashley wants to kill it. But Ashley follows her mothers wishes, it shows her respect for her.

Eric, an ex of Helen's? That's 2 so far, Druitt being the first noted ex.

The Whole Henry/Ashley flirting "Have you seen my Nubbins" "Don't you just want to squeeze them". Now I liked the Ashley/Will scene with her checking out his behind etc, but I think there is more of a romantic chemistry between Ashley/Henry. :D

Katherine Isabelle out of Ginger Snaps, also was great in Smallville as the coma girl.

Helen/Will flirting was a bit of a ick factor to me. I just don't think he's her type, especially made more gross when he an Ashley are very close later in the episode.

Will suggests they find a way to stop the breeding, which seems a safe precaution especially as the mother popped out 14 babies in a litter. But Helen wants to study them first...anyone can see this ending badly.

Loved Ashley's Nubbin getting all possessive over her & marking his territory.

Why does Ashley have men's shirts in her closet, I would think that she wouldn't be able just to bring back random guy's to The Sanctuary where abnormals roam free.

Henry being bitten & the whole "Your mother was a sewer rat" exchange was funny. As was Henry jumping on the ledge away from the creature.

Helen is upset at Ashley for being careless having the Nubbin out of the habitat, but isn't Helen also partly to blame for not listening to Will's idea of stopping them breeding.

So Sophie is given a device to show when her ability is working, bit of a waste as they only show it once. Also it seemed pretty easy to tell when her ability was active, what with the way she all of a sudden dramatically looks of into the distance when it happens. :p

Henry was my favourite this episode, he had most of the best lines. "Women & geeks first...That's all of us". "I've got wood".

The entire series is running on a local channel here and there have been two episodes (we're most of the way through the second season now) that didn't record properly and this was one of them. :( Yet another reason to buy myself the DVDs. :D
