SCI FI GREENLIGHTS PILOT FOR GHOST HUNTERS: COLLEGE EDITION
    Published: October 23, 2008

NEW YORK – October 23, 2008 – Building upon the tremendous success of cable's top paranormal franchise Ghost Hunters, SCI FI Channel has greenlit the pilot for a brand-new series, Ghost Hunters: College Edition (working title) from Craig Piligian's Pilgrim Films and Television. Ghost Hunters: College Edition features a group of college students, led by seasoned investigators, who search for the paranormal in haunted hotspots around the country and around the world.

Enjoying record-high ratings throughout its run since 2004, Ghost Hunters remains one of cable's hottest shows and is currently celebrating its best season ever. An episode on October 8 scored all-time ratings highs with a 2.0 household rating, over 2.7 million total viewers and 1.8 million Adults 25-54. This fall, new episodes of Ghost Hunters will include the 3rd annual live investigation on Halloween night, this year taking place at the historic Fort Delaware from 7pm-2am.

The series' successful spin-off, Ghost Hunters International, debuted in January 2008 to record ratings and enjoyed a successful 7-episode run, averaging over 2 million viewers during the winter season. Its summer season averaged a 1.7 Household rating, 1.3 million Adults 18-49, 1.4 million Adults 25-54 and 2.4 million total viewers, up +11% from the show's 2008 winter season.

The phenomenal success of both series has cemented Ghost Hunters' place as the #1 paranormal franchise in cable! Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters International and Ghost Hunters: College Edition are produced in association with Craig Piligian's Pilgrim Films and Television (Dirty Jobs, Ultimate Fighter, In Harm's Way). Piligian and Thomas Thayer, along with Rob Katz and Alan David, serve as executive producers.

It's getting the ratings and the cost for production for reality shows is low. The SFC isn't the only network/cable station running reality shows or 'docu-soap' programming. Somebody is watching the show in equal or greater numbers than our favorite 'scripted shows'.

Ghost Hunters ranked #1 (9pm Wed cable programs/stations) in total viewers and men and women in the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, as well as #1 for Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34.

Outside of SciFi Friday, 'B' movie Saturday, and Eureka on Tuesdays, what else does the SFC have 'new' to air on the other nights? People complain about ECW, but it brings in a younger demographic, the 13-25 age group, that the SFC hopes will check out it's other shows and maybe help increase the ratings for those shows and stay/grow with the channel.
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Anyone else think that this sounds like the Ghosthunters version of Stargate Universe?

I'm beginning to see a trend here...
