View Full Version : Whould you watch SG1 and SGA side story movies?

Here is something I would like to see happen. I would like them to make movies set in the SGverse that could flesh out some of the mythology or tell further stories set in the present. To tell the truth I wouldn't mind it being animated like the Animatrix and Batman Gotham Knight, and telling short stories, but I think most people would want full 2-hour live-action movies.

They could be set in the present, telling us more of how the Jaffa nation are building themselves up, or set in the past, showing us a critical mission the Tok'ra ran before Earth discovered the stargate. We could even see the point at witch the Goa'uld and the Tok'ra split. In the PG we could see the war between the Ancients and the Wraith (though we did see some of that when Weir went back in time). And yes, we could even see the Furlings and the great alliance and what happened that broke it apart.

So, what do you think? Would you watch side stories related to SG but not with the SGC or Atlantis? What other stories would you like to see?

No. Sorry but Stargate is about Earth and her people exploring other worlds and discovering new things. I'm no interested in some side movie which doesn;t feature our characters and our people.

Wow. Its funny you bring this up because I was about to post an idea for a movie about the "Sateden-Wraith war" with a B story of Fords days at the SGC before Atlantis. It wouldn't be set in the present like you said but it would be more about the over all universe then just SG1 or Sheppards team.

If it doesn't feature the SG-1 team nor the Atlantis Expedition, I'm not interested. :S

I really didn't expect the overwhelming opposition to this idea. You really just what the characters on the show to say "well, 4,000 years ago such-an-such happened and we have this device because of that" rather than actually seeing what happened? There is so much in SG1 and Atlantis that they just mention in passing that would be so much greater and richer in detail if we could see it happen, even if it is just short stories similar to the Animatrix.

Ye, that would be nice. I was thinking of it myself, I'd love to see the history of The Goa'uld and how they built up their empire. It would be nice to see Ra, Apophis, Ba'al and all those other baddies.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of the stargate universe on screen. Perhaps we could have a mission that SG-1 is running with one of the Tokra' that tells the tale of how the Tok'ra split of from the rest of the Goau'ld or how the Goa'uld Anubis or Ba'al rose to power since they were such pivotal enemies during the last seasons of SG-1.
Something BSG did with their tv movie Razor.

I loved the Animatrix (better than the actual films) so yes, I'd definitely be interested. Animated or real life, doesn't really matter to me, though animated would be kinda cool - Animatrix-style.

Cool idea! To see something about the other planets and races would be great! It's not that interesting to always hear about Earth. A movie about the Tok'ra before they met Earth would be interesting - or as you said about when they split and why. Or maybe about the Goa'uld when they were on Earth? Lots of possibilities. Great idea!

Yeah, I think a little fleshing out of the overall story would be pretty cool. I guess if the characters are not recurring with a standalone film, it creates opportunities to get bigger names in to play roles in the Stargate universe (the prototype for this being of course Robert Patrick as Sumner).

Yes (but no animation). I wouldn't mind if the story is told from the p.o.v. of a non-Earth race/person, but the Earth people should be in it, not neccesarily Sg-1 or Atlantis expedition. I also would prefer that the movies aren't prequels.

i would not mind that at all.

A series of ten minutes or so films fleshing out the universe filling the gaps a little.

Like Lost: the lost pieces, I think that what they were called.

Their are many area in sg verse that would make brilliant stories but extremely hard or impossible to do with our team as they would need some sought of plot device to allow the team to be their. Often using time travel.

Such stories
the plague
the first stargate
the creation of the wraith
Meeting of the Alliance or even the creation of the alliance.
And many more.

It sounds a great idea until you actually see it done. These sort of stories do next to nothing to advance the story and by the end of them you're going to be left with a feeling of "What was the point of that?" no matter how good it was.

Irreplaceable - Lucius Lavin arrives in the Milky Way and has to team up with Urgo and Harlan to find the Clava Thesaura Infinitas

300 Satedans - The Satedan survivors, led by Ronan Dex, mount a revenge mission against the Wraith

No, sorry. I'm not interested in movies that don't feature our main characters.

Then what made you watch Atlantis in the first place?

Then what made you watch Atlantis in the first place?

What? What does that have to do with anything?

Edit: Never mind - I think I understand what you were getting at. Well, at the time I wasn't nearly so disillusioned with the Stargate universe. And I liked the concept. And it was a series that I could invest in longterm rather than a one-shot 90min movie. And it still revolved around our time, our military, and had a connection to our earth. None of the alien cultures or history in the Stargate universe interest me enough to spend the money on a movie devoted completely to them.

Does that answer your question?

Well it's the same thing isn't it? When Atlantis first came out they were just brand new characters you'd never seen before, why did you watch them but are not willing to watch new ones in a movie?

a side movie, if it is a good story and not something which doesnt have to do with the SGC, Atlantis or something like that...i mean for me, there are a lot of open stories to tell. A story at earth alone wouldnt be that bad, if the story is the right one. Ok, the Goa´uld are all officially dead. I dont know. Let s see for the next SGA-movie.

Nope, just the System Lords. There's still minor Goa'uld out there, but it's really not worth doing a movie on them.

I would love side storys that were official cannon. (thats one thing tptb arent good at is cannon and other things like ship sizes, ya know, all the things us sci-fi geeks love :P) So side storys (even animated) telling us the storys and filling gaps in that we need to know the answers for!

honestly i could keep on watching them forever. sure some of the storyline of the shows have sunk a bit but overall this has probably been one of my favorite franchise ever.

ill keep on buying the dvds up until they stop.

indeed
ive had this idea many times over the years
it would be great to have such things explained
like the rise of the gould over the ancient alliance
or
the birth and war of the wraith
who knows maybe an ancient mistake made them evil
they did mess up quite a bit as weve laerned from rodney
or
a big fat time loop where sg1 meets merlin in the past before he acsended thus making him not delusional in "the quest"
or
i could stop cos i could really go on all night

I'd watch another movie with "our characters" in it. I don't think I'd buy a Jaffa-nation movie unless Jack and Daniel or Mitchell and Vala or any combination of at least two of them were also in it. It's the characters that make the show/movie for me.

I'd watch another series with a new cast like.... "Stargate SG-2" or something, though, and will probably watch Universe. But, no, I don't think I'd go for strictly side-plot movies.

Actually, something like that would make for a good fanfiction story. I wouldn't necessarily want to see it in a Stargate movie (I prefer to see SG-1 or Atlantis people as stars in the movie (although those characters could go back in time for some reason and witness some of it)).

I would totally be interested in watching a collection of short side stories in the Stargate universe. Such as about old ancient Goa'uld wars. It would be a great chance to see, Cliff Simon and Peter Williams and David Paffly again. Even if its just their voices and animated visages. I do think Animated would be good but way to tell it, but I won't like it with Anime style. I personally hated Animatrix doing that. Although that is only me. It's one of the reasons I was reluctant to purchase Gotham Knight. I did love "The Final Flight of the Osiris" from Animatrix though.
